May 2009[edit]

If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. DreamGuy (talk) 20:40, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please familiarise yourself with Wikipedia conflict of interest guidelines before linking to your site again. Promoting your own website may be regardeda as spam. Thanks. --McGeddon (talk) 21:11, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to question placed during edit of Brazil (film)[edit]

When you made this recent edit to Brazil you asked "...I do not understand why articles on the making of "Brazil" can't be included in the external links list - I have added it a few times and each time same user removes w/o explanation. Why?"

McGeddon addressed the issue above in the last sentence of section ==May 2009==. It appears that your user name and the external link are personally related. Wikipedia has a policy of paraphrased and referenced content from third party sources when possible. Although the site your external link leads to has many excellent articles devoted to the topic of the wiki page it would be more appropriate in the eyes of many editors of wikipedia if the external link was to a more general media site such as a newspaper, or magazine rather than an individual's website. Hope this helps answer why. - Steve3849 talk 23:35, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
