Your proposed deletion of Jews for Israeli–Palestinian Peace

Hi! I'm just leaving a message on your talk page because I've reverted an edit you made on Jews for Israeli–Palestinian Peace which you unsuccessfully attempted to PROD. I'm letting you know in case you want to attempt again (I know little on the subject area so I'm not going to PROD it myself). EvanTaylor1289 (talk) 19:11, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

@EvanTaylor1289: Thanks for the heads up! I've been having trouble with proposed deletions. Could you point out what it is I'm doing wrong? Thank you! Mooonswimmer 19:31, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

@Mooonswimmer: I'm not an expert but I think you are adding the nowiki and code wikitext by accident. It might be where you are copying the template from that is causing it. Hope this helps! EvanTaylor1289 (talk) 19:47, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

Notice

The article Rue le Caire has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable film, appears to fail WP:NFILM

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ways to improve Sabah Kenway

Hello, Mooonswimmer,

Thank you for creating Sabah Kenway.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Okay, this article has 4 sources. The first is an interview, and therefore a primary source, which can't be used to show notability. The second is a blog, and therefore an unreliable source. The 3rd and 4th are simple non-indepth coverage. So currently it does not pass WP:GNG or WP:MUSICBIO.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Onel5969}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

@Onel5969: Many of these articles were made for the African Film Contest, where Africine and Africultures were listed as reliable, independent source ( Wikipedia:WikiProject AfroCine/Reliable Sources ). I was dubious but still cited them in most of the articles, even when plenty of reliable sources were available. I can definitely see the notability issue now.

Just checked again for better sourcing, and after a pretty extensive search in English, Arabic, and French, I couldn't come up with anything substantial. Doesn't meet GNG. Should I let the PROD run its course, or redirect to the filmmaker's article as you did with Une femme du Sahel, Aminata Traore?

PS: I know the citation overkill on most of the articles you've reviewed is very hard on the eyes! This weekend I'll be revising every single one of them and trimming down the references ;) Thanks again for your help. Mooonswimmer 13:33, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

I would redirect it, as per WP:ATD. What you are doing mostly is not necessarily citebombing (although you do do it occasionally), citebombing is where you put more than 2 refs for something. What you tend to do, is put lots of different refs on different things. That's okay. But what I said for this article goes for many of your film articles, where there is little in-depth coverage. But overall, you're getting the hang of it. Onel5969 TT me 13:38, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

@Onel5969: Hmm.. I think this one's notable enough for a standalone article. Especially considering Nigerien media infrastructure.

It was screened at:

etc...

I'm aware interviews are moot when its comes to establishing notability, but here's an interview with the director, published in Le Point: [5]

Here's an review by Davide Abbatescianni, a member of FIPRESCI who also contribtues to Variety: [6]

It might not meet GNG, but I think many of these African cinema article should be evaluated on their own merits, taking into account the infrastructure of many of these countries, as well as the so-called geographical bias on Wikipedia. Zinder's a pretty significant production for a country with only one cinema. Perhaps we can apply the third point of Wikipedia:Notability_(films)#Inclusionary_criteria:

The film was successfully distributed domestically in a country that is not a major film producing country, and was produced by that country's equivalent of a "major film studio." Articles on such a film should assert that the film in question was notable for something more than merely having been produced, and if any document can be found to support this, in any language, it should be cited.

If you come to the conclusion that the film is notable/of value and revert the redirect, I will definitely be expanding the article a bit. Mooonswimmer 14:06, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

Placement of External links section and use of IMDb template

Hi Mooonswimmer

I have been tidying up a number of articles about films, following a discussion now archived at WT:WikiProject_Film/Archive_79#Masking_imdb_links_as_wikilinks. There is a specific template for use when creating external links to IMDb titles, namely {{imdb title}}, and it is best to use that in preference to [[imdbtitle:number|NAME - IMDb]]. Also, the external links section of articles should go after the references, not before them, as described at MOS:ORDER. Please stick to these conventions to save work from other editors. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:56, 7 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Michael D. Turnbull, thanks for the heads-up. I'm now aware of these rookie mistakes and will be revising each article to resolve the issues. Mooonswimmer 14:59, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the prompt reply. You can see the change I made to, for example Women's Wiles and I'd appreciate your help with other articles. There are hundreds with similar issues (not always the use as external links) and the search for the general problem is this one Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:03, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Noted! I made over a hundred articles for African films, and I assume most of them have the same issues. I'll be going through each one of them sometime this week in order to make any necessary changes. Might even spend a few hours tackling any other articles I can find that have the same problem.
Thanks for your hard work! Mooonswimmer 15:11, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Just to say that I have been able to complete the fix for all imdb titles but there are still similar issues for imdb names (see this imdbname search), where the solution is to either remove these links entirely (if in the body of the article) or use the {{imdb name}} template if they occur in an External Links section or as references. With a bit more work, all these cases can be sorted out. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:49, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

Justis Bratt moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Justis Bratt, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Thanks for the little comment @North8000, big encouragement!
I'd appreciate any remarks regarding my work if you ever stumble across any of my other recent page creations. Feel free to point out any persistent mistakes or aspects in which my articles are lacking.
If you could check out two of my other unreviewed recent article creations (Zeus (Great Dane) and Ojivolta) anytime soon, that'd be great. Regarding the former article, my issue is with the title. I've asked a number of experienced editors for suggestions but no one has gotten back to me yet. As for the latter, an AfC reviewer added the {{notability}} tag. I was wondering if I interpreted and applied notability guidelines correctly, as well as if the article is properly sourced. It was quite a challenge.
I've raised both issues on the articles' talk pages. Thanks! Mooonswimmer 18:54, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

I marked Zeus (Great Dane) as reviewed, with a few notes. North8000 (talk) 20:13, 18 May 2022 (UTC)
It probably caught the eye of the person who tagged it because it has a pretty glaring lack of sources that cover Ojivolta in depth and the resultant type of article content that could be built from that. This would be needed to meet the sourcing wp:GNG, but the SNG is an alternate "way in". From what I see I'd be willing to eventually mark it as reviewed, but I really don't want to parachute into a very recent wp:notability tagging and untagging. It it's quiet there for a couple weeks I'll do that, or feel free to ping me if I forget. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 20:27, 18 May 2022 (UTC)
Got it, thanks for addressing my concerns @North8000!
Also, I hate to swamp you with requests, but I just created 2022 United States Congress hearings on UFOs. It's quite a piece of work to review considering the subject matter, unlike the article about the world's tallest Great Dane. But it's a recent and widely covered event, so I think having it appear in search engine results ASAP would be of great benefit. I'm sure a lot of UFO enthusiasts would have a lot to contribute. I'd really appreciate it if you or any other NPPs could give it a bit of your time.
Thanks again! Mooonswimmer 21:24, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

DYK for Lynching of Deborah Yakubu

On 1 June 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lynching of Deborah Yakubu, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that "What do you hope to achieve with this?" were the last words of the Nigerian college student Deborah Yakubu while being lynched for alleged blasphemy? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lynching of Deborah Yakubu. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Lynching of Deborah Yakubu), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Thanks for the heads up, it's not something I do often and I assumed it worked about the same way the maintenance tags do. -- Mooonswimmer 16:40, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
Also, would it be wrong for me to take the article to AfD and suggest that what little content is in the article be merged into Cyril Ramaphosa? Mooonswimmer 16:42, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
Following the merge process would be preferable to AfD, editors there don't seem to respond well to AfD noms when a merge is appropriate. I was going to support the merge but there was no discussion to join, that's how I noticed. Schazjmd (talk) 17:02, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

Question About My Article About Senegalese people in Germany

Hey Sir. Can You Please Help Me Find Reliable Sources For My Article Senegalese people in Germany Outside of Wikipedia 2603:8001:7745:5AC6:8955:A601:9C65:39D2 (talk) 21:22, 13 June 2022 (UTC)

Hello,
Sure thing. I'm a bit busy this week, but when I'm free I will ping you. The layout of the article is great, but I think it needs a bit more information. I draftified it because there were no references to back up the claims in the article. Government sources and articles in reputable German/Senegalese publications are your best bet. You cannot use Wikipedia itself as a source, but you check out the citations used in similar articles for material you might be able to use.
https://www.rki.de/DE/Content/InfAZ/H/HIVAIDS/Studien/MiSSA/Downloads/Pilotstudie_Mapping.pdf?__blob=publicationFile It looks as if there's quite a bit of relevant information here. Just search (Ctrl+F) "Senegal".
For the "Notable people" section, search their name and add "Senegal" or "Senegalese". You could also take a look at the sources cited in their biographies. It's more than likely any in-depth coverage would mention their origins.
Happy editing! Let me know if you have any questions, and I hope I will have some time to further assist you next week. Mooonswimmer 21:31, 13 June 2022 (UTC)

Hey CSC! Haven't been very active lately, but I'll be back in full force soon! Here are some things you can check out and might be able to help with in the meantime:
Carlota Guerrero is my most recently created page, perhaps you could take a look at it. Any glaring flaws?
The Red Paintings I'm having a been of trouble here. I've been trying to clean up this page for a while now, it's quite a mess. It's poorly sourced, in part due to someone trying to get all relevant material online removed. The band's frontman shuns his "dead name", yet another invested user insists on keeping it. A band member's non-performance name is typically an essential piece of information, but in this case it seems to be contentious (and poorly sourced), so I was wondering if WP:BLPREMOVE and/or WP:BLPPRIVACY would apply.
Also, from the article:
According to McSweeney, in 2006, Hitler was a "personal catalyst" and his band were a "bowl of Fruit Loops." He also alleged that he was abducted by aliens, when younger.
These are the only things mentioned in the article about the band's frontman. There is a somewhat reliable source to the claims, but I think it's an unnecessary phrase. Does it really belong in an article about a band? What do you think is the best recourse? Mooonswimmer 16:16, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

Extraordinary Birder moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Extraordinary Birder, is not suitable as written to remain published. Diogo Santos Coelho is notable enough to be on Wikipedia, go ahead and browse the internet, this topic is in the mainstream, and verifiable enough to be on Wikipedia. Anasalaskari (talk) 14:33, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

As per WP:CRIME:
"A person who is known only in connection with a criminal event or trial should not normally be the subject of a separate Wikipedia article if there is an existing article that could incorporate the available encyclopedic material relating to that person.
Where there is such an existing article, it may be appropriate to create a sub-article, but only if this is necessitated by considerations of article size."
Coelho is only known for his connection to RaidForums. All the press coverage simply mentions his arrest. The 3 sentences that make up Diogo Santos Coelho should be incorporated into the RaidForum's article. Mooonswimmer 14:47, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

Wikipedia and copyright

Control copyright icon Hello Mooonswimmer! Your additions to Ryan Abbott (lawyer) have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. VickKiang (talk) 20:41, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Mooonswimmer,

In the past day, you moved this page three times. Was this really necessary? Please do not move pages just because you are able to, you should have a good reason to do a page move. Do not move an article from Draft space to main space and then back to Draft space (or vice versa). Page moves are tracked and multiple, unnecessary page moves just serves to bring admins' attention to you (like it did here). It doesn't look good if you are ever thinking about applying for advanced permissions if you use the tools available to you improperly so please be more careful and conscientious when deciding whether or not a page needs to be moved either within a namespace or between namespaces. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:36, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Liz, I was just adding a comment on @Isabelle Belato's talk page explaining the page moves, since I knew it looked very sloppy and I had some questions regarding drafts/attribution.
Unfortunately, I still have a slight "my article/their article" mindset, which is one I need to get rid of. I wanted attribution, since most of the content in the draft was promotional content and unreliable sources before I changed most of the article and added to it. The page creator also seems to have been inactive since they made those 10 edits to the draft they had created.
Until recently, when creating articles, I rarely ever worked on drafts. So I wasn't so sure about copyright and attribution, which have now posed problems with the past two articles I've created. I now understand that I can't add copyrighted content to a draft with the intention of working on it later. Nor can I draftify I page I moved to the mainspace as if I'm reverting my edit. Learning the hard way, unfortunately. I was also wondering how history merges work, and when they are appropriate.
I definitely am more judicious when draftifying articles created by other users. I run the content I write through Earwig before publishing. But despite my frequent contributions, many of which I believe are quite valuable, I still believe I make a little too many rookie mistakes and sloppy edits to apply for any advanced permissions anytime soon.
Please give me a heads up whenever I make an edit that is not helpful to Wikipedia, or that creates extra work and requires extra scrutiny for moderators. Thank you! Mooonswimmer 02:56, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

Disclose your COI

Information icon

Hello Mooonswimmer. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Mooonswimmer. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Mooonswimmer|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message.

This publisher has been followed for a long time, thus we identified a series of projects that were published on freelance platforms, some of these projects are - Alan Berg (nutritionist), Inclusive Democracy, Futera. Similarly, if one of the admins @Materialscientist:,@GeneralNotability:,@Firefly:,@BDD:,@NinjaRobotPirate: will look at this publisher's contributions, there are many similar contributions that identify him as a paid publisher.
