My job was simply to judge the consensus based on the deletion discussion. The consensus appeared fairly clear, and I think the above links were evaluated by the participants. Looking further at the links, most of them do not appear to be reliable sources, and I cannot say the consensus was incorrect. The bizjournal article is really the only one that looks like a reliable research source, and that focuses primarily on Ann Cook and her book (I note that we still have articles on both).--Kubigula (talk) 04:46, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Michael Uebel

In the course of going through the unassessed list, I put an unreferenced BLP tag on Michael Uebel, an article on an academic and one-time UVA prof that is entirely unreferenced except for a list of his own articles, and one link to a web site associated with him and his theories. User DrSidneyGottlieb (talk • contribs), who has only edited this article, has taken it down three times now, claiming that a BLP article doesn't need references if nothing in the article is subject to challenge, and that he says that is the case. I don't care to get into a shouting match with this guy, or break 3-RR for that matter, so I was hoping you could take a look and possibly say something to him that he won't reject out of hand. Terrie Suit

Could you take a look at this article? Special:Contributions/Izzy001, who may be Suit herself, seems obsessed with removing her year of birth from the article, even though it is documented, and adding the fact that she was born on a US Army base, even though that is not. Special:Contributions/Tlsuit made the same changes in April 2010. In the most recent edit summary, Izzy001 accused me of being "some kind of stalker creep" who wanted to make her "a target for ID theft". Rklear (talk) 13:26, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Norfolk

You might not be familiar with the diaphonemic transcription standard used for English words on Wikipedia, so I'd like to bring you up to speed: we transcribe words in a (somewhat artificial) "dialect-neutral" standard, and one of the more salient details of this is rhoticity: even though many speakers only pronounce an /ɹ/ when it's followed by a vowel, we transcribe it anyway, because the others can simply drop it. People from the Tidewater are traditionally nonrhotic, so the /r/-less pronunciation is the expected form. We don't need to clutter the opening of every placename article with needless repetition of predictable local pronunciation variants. I decided to use the pronunciation respelling NAWR-fək instead of NOR-fək in hopes of this being more palatable to the nonrhotic Norfolkians' intuition of it as NAW-fək. — ˈzɪzɨvə (talk) 04:29, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for reversing speedy deletion on Carlisle School District (Arkansas)

I'm creating a database of US governments outside of wikipedia. One of the fields is the wikipedia page for each government. As a courtesy I've created a calculated field that contains the full text of a stubbed wikipedia page in case of red links and adding in the stub. The data is mostly pulled from the US census of governments. To avoid further speedy delete attempts, what do you recommend I add to the stub template? I basically have the name of the government according to the Census, the mailing address, and the web site of the government. TMLutas (talk) 05:18, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Glad to help, but I don't have real insight on this subject. I know that creating a lot of stubs is sometimes controversial, but I don't know if there is any recommended practice. Stephen Holmes

Hallo, after stub-sorting Stephen Holmes (CIA) just now I found there wasn't a dab or primary-topic article at Stephen Holmes... but see that you deleted an article at that name, CSD-A7, in 2010. There are several SHs - I've just added "(politician)" to the one in the template {{New Hampshire House of Representatives}}, and another seems to be a political writer, Guggenheim Fellow etc.

Could you let me know whether there's anything in that deleted article which could be useful in any future article? I'd like to disentangle the various name-holders, but before creating a dab at the base name I thought I'd check its history. Thanks. PamD 11:16, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

House of Burgesses

User Jdcrutch took it upon himself to move House of Burgesses to House of Burgesses of Virginia last week. He has no previous history of editing the article. He claims the move is necessary because there were also Houses of Burgesses in Maryland and North Carolina. Before I do something drastic like move the article back, I'm curious what you think. That is nowhere in the Anilingus article. Nor do I understand how it's racist if it ever was included in the article. The name rimming being in the article has clearly been explained on the Anilingus talk page. You were asked to give specific reasons for your objections other than "No slang" and "No slang, please," but you have not. Sherlock Holmes lives!

I am doing a detective job to find out who wrote the article on the M-Sigma Relation. In it, there is a diagram of velocity dispersion versus galactic central supermassive black hole mass that summarizes the work of many workers over a long time. The authorship of this diagram is attributed only to the author of the article. I would like to cite this diagram and its author in a scientific paper that I am writing. Just referencing Wikipedia is not enough. I need a name. His username is or may have been Msigma, but his user page was deleted by you, the notation said. Do you know anything more about Msigma or about who wrote the article and composed the diagram?

I'm afraid I don't have personal information about that user. The stuff on his/her userpage was just workspace for the article. However, it appears the user did have email enabled, so you may be able to reach them by email them. If you go to User talk:Msigma, your toolbox on the left should include a link to "Email this user". I think that's your best bet.

Courthouse Pictures

Hey KubiguMojo :), just a heads up on one of your courthouse pictures. The Frederick County, Virginia page has a picture of the Old Frederick County Courthouse, which is on the Loudoun Street Mall. The Joint Judicial Center, the current combined courthouses of the City of Winchester and Frederick County are located a couple blocks away. The Old Courthouse is now used for different community events now and hasn't hosted any legal procedings since we moved here in 1992 and probably before that. The building is on the National Registry of Historic Places (that's the state listing, the national listing is being digitized...still) so the photo is still notable and would make a good article. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 15:48, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

I am, but the camera has been out of batteries for awhile now. Just when we think we can get a pack of 'em, a bill comes up, and the batteries have to wait. A fair question. Looking simply at the numbers, I counted 26 in support of the 24 hour block or immediate unblock (though the two "weak supports" were a little murky) and 13 opposed (AutomaticStrikeout came in after I was already closing). I see that as a pretty solid consensus, just based on raw numbers. Moreover, if there is unclear consensus on an admin action, we generally err on the side of reverting the action (see Wikipedia:NOCONSENSUS). Mojo Hand, you appear to have confused a majority !vote with consensus—they're not the same thing, by a long chalk.
PBS, there was no consensus there, solid or otherwise. But, after reading the NOCONSENSUS policy, it looks like all Mojo Hand had to determine was a state of No Consensus: "When actions by administrators are contested and the discussion results in no consensus either for the action or for reverting the action, the action is normally reverted." So, all EC's fan club has to do to get his block reversed is show up at the discussion and contest it, which will lead (in their worst-case scenario) to a decision of NoConsensus, and the block gets reverted. I agree with you, PBS, that there was no consensus here, and I don't know how anyone can claim there was, but that question is moot because as the policy is written, EC and his friends win anyway. 96.231.113.61 I think you are inverting the logic the proposal. The proposal put forwards was that "we reduce the block to 24 hours and be done with it." so it had to be shown that there was a consensus for that change to the block (not that the initial block should be reverted), as I said above I see no such consensus in that section for the specific proposition, and what is more the opinions were skewed from a large majority in favour of reducing the block in in the first half of the list but not in the second, which suggests closing the debate may have been premature. -- PBS (talk) 18:16, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
I would argue, PBS, that changing the block to 24 hours, when the 24 hours is already "time served", is in effect a revert of the indef block. The intent of the proposal was to revert the indef block. (I do think I see what you're saying, but to my mind it seems to be a "technicality".) You are correct about there being no consensus and that the discussion should have run longer. In my opinion, that part of NOCONSENSUS needs to be changed so that in the case of a block, like this block, if the discussion ends in no consensus the block stays in place. A policy that defaults to reverting a block on "no consensus" undermines the authority of the sysop and undermines enforcement, in this case, of the Civility policy. I looked at this again, and I stand by my original comments. However, I do acknowledge PBS's point that allowing the discussion to continue could have altered the consensus (and there was some indication that momentum was changing). Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Deletion of Ken Levine (Musician)

Hello, this is the original creator of the Ken Levine page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Levine_(musician) which was deleted apparently some time ago over issues of notability. I wanted to contact you about the possibility of a reconsideration of your decision. The primary argument which I do not believe was sufficiently aired during the debate was that Mr. Levine does indeed have a wide body of articles about him and that cite and reference his work. Unfortunately since the majority of these articles date from the 1970s, they have not been archived online. The link to Mr. Levine's website which was included in the original sources was misrepresented as an inappropriate source, but is in fact vital to prove the veracity of his notability. On Mr. Levine's websites are scans of a large number of the articles which appeared. That combined with the fact that he was a chart-topping musician in his time, I feel more than reaches wiki's standard for notability.

When you as admin delete an article tagged with A7, does that then remove the CSD tag? I am asking coz in the revision history visible to me I only see the initial edit by article creator. That's an insightful question. The original article only had two "revisions" - the creation page (which you saw) and the CSD A7 tagging diff. When I restored it, I only restored the first revision; otherwise I would have had to edit the page to remove the A7 tag. Usually I undeleted the entire history, but I used a shortcut to avoid recreating then reverting the CSD tag.--Mojo Hand (talk) 15:21, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
