January 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm TornadoLGS. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Generally speaking, the body of a Wikipedia article should not contain external links. TornadoLGS (talk) 19:31, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What did you change? Michael Wilkinson (talk) 19:36, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You had made the names of some company personnel into links to their corresponding pages on the company website. You had also linked a few mentions of programs to external websites. I have removed those. For an article about a company, it is usually appropriate to provide one link to the company's website, but no more than that. Text within the body of an article may be made into links to other Wikipedia articles, but generally not to external websites. TornadoLGS (talk) 19:45, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Paragon Innovations. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. TornadoLGS (talk) 19:47, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did at Paragon Innovations, you may be blocked from editing. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. TornadoLGS (talk) 20:05, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand. I rarely edit anything in Wikipedia. When I made these edits about the company being accquired, etc. I updated links, key people in company, etc.
MANY MANY Wikipedia pages have links. I tried finding as many wiki links when possible. For example, Texas A&M University wiki page lists every College page as URLs.
Are you saying the page is better off with LESS information?
I now remember why I don't edit or create Wiki pages. Too many people with too much time on their hands are looking at Wiki pages that are viewed so seldom. Michael Wilkinson (talk) 20:18, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not trying to create links for promotion. Paragon's business doesn't come from Wikipedia users. It is typically a C level exec based decision based on relationships. Michael Wilkinson (talk) 20:20, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If anything, that just means the use of external links on those other articles may need to be reviewed. I'll also note that, if you are working for Pargon, you need to declare a conflict of interest for editing. This only comes up because all your editing has pertained to that company. A COI template for your userpage is shown below. TornadoLGS (talk) 20:29, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This user has publicly declared that they have a conflict of interest regarding the Wikipedia article Article name.

Information icon Hello, Mikewilkinson7. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. JBW (talk) 20:44, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I will look into this this week. This never came up before so this is new territory Michael Wilkinson (talk) 21:22, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
