Deletion of eCharta

Hi Michael,

You deleted the page I started creating for eCharta. I don't get why you did so because I just started it and you haven't the whole picture - or probably for that? As I am new to Wikipedia, what would I have to add to make this article wiki friendly? It isn't an ad and it has a lot of history elements; briefly it started from a small town through a small Philatelic Society the oldest in the country (since 1943) and a philatelic magazine with a lot of gold and silver medals from exhibitions all around the world. Do you think I have to start writing it in my sand box? But then again, I cannot upload images because it is asking for a "real" page. Waiting for advise. Thanks. KOstasHat (talk) 14:39, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

The article was deleted for not making any claims of notability. Furthermore as the CEO of the company you are writing about, there is an inherent conflict of interest. COI editing is strongly discouraged on Wikipedia. --Michael Greiner 20:03, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
I'm the one I know the history of the society and the company. What I suppose to do? Tell it to somebody else to write it? And then I don't want to advertise it! I just want to write down the facts. Furthermore as the notability you should explain a little more because the policy it is a bit blurring. Thank you very much for your time. KOstasHat (talk) 21:31, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
Well, someone who isn't part of the company would be better. Organizations that have been written about by reliable outside sources are generally considered notable. Have any other websites or newspapers written about your website? --Michael Greiner 04:02, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for December 13

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 1st Mariner Arena, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Colonial Athletic Conference (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article List of papabili in the 2013 papal conclave is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of papabili in the 2013 papal conclave until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. -- --JamboQueen (talk) 17:02, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Todd Terje

I noticed that you recently deleted the page Todd Terje because there was "no explanation of the subject's significance." I think that the subject might actually meet certain notability criteria for musicians (specifically #1 and #2). For example, as its Metacritic page indicates, several reliable independent publications have reviewed his recent EP It's The Arps; furthermore, several of his singles have been ranked among the top tracks of 2011 by Resident Advisor and Pitchfork, and 2012 by Resident Advisor, Pitchfork, and Consequence of Sound. He was also profiled in a list of "The 25 DJs that Rule the Earth" by Rolling Stone (a pretty paltry entry though, I must admit) and his single "Inspector Norse" was ranked #22 on the Pazz & Jop poll last year. Lastly, he's credited as a producer for a song that hit #1 on the UK Singles Chart, Candy, which sampled yet another song that he made called "Eurodans," according to its wiki page. Anyways I would like to hear what you think. Thanks! -- Klenow (talk) 03:23, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

The text of the article I deleted was the following sentence:

"Todd Terje (real name 'Terje Olsen') is a DJ and producer from Norway."

That's a pretty clear cut A7 speedy deletion as it was written. Feel free to write a new article with the references above and any sort of indication of notability from them and the article should be fine. --Michael Greiner 03:46, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Excel Therapy, LLC

Michael Greiner, I understand that my article about Excel Therapy may have been seen as advertising, and I am sorry if I made it seem to be so. I will create another article that sticks to encyclopedic information about that business. If you come upon a problem with the article, please fill free to strip it of its advertising, but please do not delete the article itself. I am relatively new to Wikipedia, and am learning as I go. Thank you! Carwile2 10:00, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Ketchup House

Hi Michael, Thanks for a quick editor action, could we discuss the page, before the case gets forgotten, please? Pavel. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Snezilo (talkcontribs) 01:28, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

The article made no claims of notability, and therefore met the criteria for speedy deletion. Just because something exists does not mean it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. --Michael Greiner 05:28, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
Yes, thanks again, no dispute there. I am quite new here, and would like to add the missing notability. First, the events where this robotic competition is included are open and international contests with decent tradition. Second, the competition is already accepted in two countries at two different and independent robotic events organized by independent organizations (the second is here: http://www.roboticday.org/ ) Third, including this robotic competition in encyclopedia will have a good impact. The competition is an educational activity, it is organized by non-profit and public institutions, the point of Encyclopedia is learning, it is for people who want to learn, the same applies to the robotic competition. If that helps, I can also lookup some media articles on the topic. I believe there is no good reason for keeping the encyclopedia short on the scope of different robotic competitions. But maybe it should be moved to some other place, for instance: Robot competition What do you think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Snezilo (talkcontribs) 10:57, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
Placing the information in the list at Robot competition would probably be the best place for it and your Puck Collect article as well. Unless an event that includes those competitions that has been covered in reliable, third party sources, I do not see how they would be notable enough to merit separate articles. If you you want me to place the deleted text on a subpage of yours so you can merge it, I can do that for you, just let me know. --Michael Greiner 19:44, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, that is very kind of you. Let me first ask, what would then be considered as reliable, third party sources? Both events that now include Ketchup House were covered in different media, including the largest national newspapers, state TV station, international peer-reviewed conferences/journals. It is similar with Puck Collect. Is that reliable and third party enough? I will have to collect those though, if required. Snezilo (talk) 23:10, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
Yes, those would be examples of reliable, third party sources. Just to be clear, I'm recommending creating an article for an overall competition (with proper sourcing) and then putting the information for the individual events (Puck Collect, Ketchup House, etc) as sections in that article. I've put the deleted text at User:Snezilo/Ketchup House. --Michael Greiner 02:03, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

So while I'm not exactly an inexperienced editor, I'm wondering if you have any suggestions on how to go about creating a page. My suspicion is that because these machines are so widespread in the apparel manufacturing industry, there should be some RS to establish notability. I am not about to go and rephrase a bunch of corporate website copy as appears to happen at other articles like Janome. (and frankly, I am inclined to nominate that one at AfD.)

Either way, I'm not particularly invested in this article's creation, I just was hoping it might last a little bit longer in order to attract some other help. I've seen things nominated through the full AfD process get fleshed out quite substantially, so I know it can happen. Any comments appreciated. -- [ UseTheCommandLine ~/talk ] # _ 08:04, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

I really don't see anything from a third party that isn't trying to sell machines or parts (which there are a lot of), and even on the companies' own websites that claim anything interesting for notability purposes. The company may be notable from it's sheer size, but the general lack of sources, at least from what I can find in English, prevents much from happening. As an aside, you're right that the Janome article doesn't have much behind it and probably could use a trip through AFD. --Michael Greiner 21:38, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
It (Janome) was just declined for CSD. I nominated a number of articles about sewing machine manufacturers on those grounds, just for consistency's sake, as there are a few that have no RS about them. I do wonder about the sourcing requirements for them though, as the industrial machines that are Juki's main output dont seem like they would have a lot of people talking about them in newspapers or the like. The industry mags where they might have mentions are not the sort of thing i have access to. They have a big sideline in home machines though, and I'm thinking it's at least possible we might need to adjust our sourcing requirements for crafts/hobbies, to allow for blogs and whatnot, which tend to rule the roost when it comes to this sort of activity. Additional thoughts welcome.
also, because I've sent articles through AfD and occasionally they've come out the other side in much better shape, I wonder if it's frowned upon to create a stub article and then immediately nominate it at AfD so as to get more eyes on it? -- [ UseTheCommandLine ~/talk ] # _ 22:45, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
CSD of Pfaff also declined. -- [ UseTheCommandLine ~/talk ] # _ 23:01, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
see also: google translation of japanese WP article
I've re-created the article with sources that i think should be sufficient to establish WP:N. Comments appreciated. -- [ UseTheCommandLine ~/talk ] # _ 23:47, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
I understand why Janome would get declined for Speedy Deletion and if we hadn't been having this conversation, I probably would have deleted Pfaff. Sourcing will be tough for companies that don't make a lot of noise, especially when they are located in non-english speaking countries, but that's not really a rule that should be ignored. I wouldn't generally recommend creating articles for the purpose of improving them in the middle of the AFD process, but I agree it sometimes works.
Finally, the re-created article is certainly better than the version I deleted. --Michael Greiner 01:38, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Curtis Ackie

Hi Michael,

You deleted the page I created for the author Curtis Ackie, and I'm unsure why. Please advise me on what I need to include to make it a valid page. Do I need to include quotes etc. from notable reviewers and provide links? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Barrel eye (talkcontribs) 11:09, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Pretty much the concerns brought up at the now created AFD. The sources aren't the greatest (blogs and reviews are generally not considered reliable sources) and there were no general claims of notability. Following User:Reddogsix's advice of trying to meet WP:Author should help. --Michael Greiner 20:49, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Hello there,

I just wanted to say a big thank you for putting a protection on the RuPaul's Drag Race (season 5) page. I would like to report Zeeyanwiki for sock puppetry on the page using accounts Grish1inn and others. deletion of article by User:HaeYoon

Hey, I just wanted to say I am an instructor for the course that student is in, and I am sorry she is making mistakes. I told her at User talk:HaeYoon to use the sandbox for the next version; was there anything salvageable in her deleted article? If so, maybe it can be restored to her sandbox? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:02, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

The only text in the article that I deleted was a rephrasing of the title, so nothing there. It looks like there was a completed infobox in one of the versions of the article that User:RHaworth deleted which I'll put in her sandbox for you. RHaworth did salt the title he deleted so if an article needs to be created at Beautifulstore, that will need to be removed. --Michael Greiner 04:47, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Consider unprotect

The article Channel 3 (Thailand) seems to have had vandalized during late 2009 to early 2010. The article seems to be fine now, only some unsourced additions which I have already removed. The article has indefinite moving protection. Consider unprotect that article.--DKH2010 (talk) 03:29, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

Cancelled

In what way is this article "significantly different"? It is exactly the same type of sources that consensus determined was insufficient, only recreated under a slightly different name with a different account. The sources are slightly different in that they are different versions of the same sources. This one, for example, is the same type of source and even less detailed than the one that was discussed in the AfD. All of the sources are in that same situation, there's nothing new there and are certainly not significantly different. - SudoGhost 13:56, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

The prose of the article was more than tripled in length compared to the deleted version. That clearly fails the G4 criteria: "A sufficiently identical and unimproved copy, having any title, of a page deleted via its most recent deletion discussion. This excludes pages that are not substantially identical to the deleted version, ..." I'm not sure the article would survive another go around at AFD, (In fact it probably wouldn't) but it isn't eligible for a speedy. --Michael Greiner 20:40, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
The improvement of the article was in unsourced prose, not sources, and the lack of sources was why the article was deleted. The consensus of the AfD discussion still applies to that article: unsourced prose does not change the consensus. Unsourced content may be removed by any editor, so effectively it would be within Wikipedia policy to remove the "tripled prose" not supported by any reliable sources and would put the article back exactly where the AfD'd version was at; unsourced prose puffing up the article is not substantial, and is not improved over the version deleted. Adding some more text to the article but retaining the same sources that an AfD consensus determined was insufficient does not substantially improve an article by any metric. - SudoGhost 20:46, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
Since there's been no reply: do you have any objection to me renominating this article for speedy deletion? - SudoGhost 00:35, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
I won't decline it if you do so, but I still disagree that the articles are sufficiently identical to qualify for a G4. --Michael Greiner 19:24, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Alan K. Ono

Hi Michael,

You deleted a page referring to Alan K. Ono. This was created only last night as part of a Wikipedia edit-a-thon intended to encourage new editors. I am going through these articles now in order to address any issues identified by the editing community, which I value. I am surprised to see that the article was deleted outright. How might I reinstate it so that the students and I might address the issues you identified?

Many thanks, Megan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mwacha (talkcontribs) 18:40, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

The article was a direct copy of text on page 5 of [1]. Text directly copied from outside sources is generally a copyright violation, which are not allowed and is why the article was speedily deleted. Feel free to write a new article without using copyrighted texts. --Michael Greiner 20:41, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Rate of editing appropriate for pending changes

What is the rate you mentioned as appropriate for pending changes (and not requiring semi)? Is it vandal edits per day or by some other metric? And is there a more appropriate way to handle an IP-hopping vandal, or should we just deny pending changes in perpetuity? czar · · 07:19, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

There's no official rate, but generally an average of one or two reverts a day, with the occasional accepted IP edit, is what I consider a good fit for pending changes. The best option with this vandal would probably be to request a long term range block on the 205.189.94.xx since their IP appears to be rather stable in that range. --Michael Greiner 17:42, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

Yolande Henderson

Hi Michael, I have added to the above article that you previously rfd. Please have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Dsouzaron/sandbox and advise me if it is ok as a stub. Thanks. Tissueboy (talk) 21:08, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

What I deleted was a redirect to a nonexistent article, User:DragonflySixtyseven deleted the actual article. Anyways, I am not sure if the subject of the article meets notability guidelines. The most impressive claim (in my mind) is the SPELT recognition but that is that only given a passing mention in the supplied reference. On a general level, I'm not sure if very many, if any high school teachers merit inclusion. --Michael Greiner 05:00, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

Kody Keplinger

I've done some research in LexisNexis Academic and have found some evidence for the notability of author Kody Keplinger:

  • Favorable review (2010) in School Library Journal for The DUFF
  • Profile of author (2010) in Messenger-Inquirer (Owensboro, KY)
  • Favorable review (2012) in Kirkus Reviews for A Midsummer's Nightmare

In your opinion, would it be appropriate for me to create a page about her using these references, or is more evidence of notability still needed? Thanks.

Sylvar (talk) 13:45, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

Maybe, it's tough without seeing what the sources actually say. I would write a draft article in a user sandbox or at Articles for Creation and go from there. Without seeing the actual sources, I would use the author profile more than reviews. --Michael Greiner 20:53, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

Danakil (band) article deletion

Hi,

You deleted my Danakil (band) article on the 8th of May, citing "No explanation of the subject's significance (band/musician)" as the reason. I have since then been working on translating the article in my sandbox. I am now done with translating the article and would like to create a page on Wikipedia to post it.

The Danakil (band) page that you deleted asks me to contact you before re-creating the page. If you want to see proof of the band's significance and notability, please go ahead and check out my sandbox. You can also find the original French article here. Being a new Wikipedian I am not so sure on how this whole process works, so forgive me if I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks! 15xuanb (talk) 10:43, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
