Gay rights in Saudi Arabia

OK, I deleted your text again.You added it back again with no comments. I fear we are having a slow-motion revert war.

Look, I live in Saudi Arabia. I am writing this in Saudi Arabia. I know of what I speak. Will and Grace airs here. I like the show. There is no reputable evidence the Saudi government does (or can) censor satellite TV. Saying otherwise is simply false.

There are a number of Gay communities here. They are generally segregated by nationality. I deleted the mention of them (again) out of a simply desire that we keep people safe and out of jail.

Look, maybe I am wrong to delete the section on Aramco, but can we at least discuss it? Paul, in Saudi 04:57, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Do not mix EU and Europe

Deaf WikiProject

Hello :)

I noticed you are a native signer of ASL and have an interest in Deaf culture. Perhaps you would like to have a look at a proposed WikiProject about Sign language, Deaf culture, and deafness; it's still a very rough idea at the moment but a couple of us interested wikipedians thought it might be one way to coordinate our efforts on pages related to deafness, and we also hope to encourage more collaboration on these topics. I have noticed that you are affiliated with sign language in one way or another. The article on CODAs needs quite a bit of work, and I think is an important article to have as a part of Wikipedia. Gallaudet U

Hi there! In my various pokings around wikipedia, I noticed your userpage and saw you went to Gallaudet. I was curious to know your experiences there. I myself am looking into graduate schools, specifically social work/substance abuse counseling for the deaf, and of course Gallaudet is one of them. How did you like the school? Pros and cons? Also, I am very much hearing - it might be the only place I'd ask this - but are hearing students accepted there? And is Gallaudet still a very recognized school when bringing up your educational background? Much, much appreciated... JoeSmack ^Talk 16:32, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

The following are answers to your questions regarding Gallaudet.

Hearing status: Gallaudet does admit hearing students into its Graduate School, provided you pass the ASLPI and have a decent score on the GRE. I believe hearing status is not a factor as far as the Graduate School is concerned

Gotcha. When do you have to take the ASLPI, when you get there or when you apply?

Recognition: Gallaudet isn't recognized as widely as, say, an Ivy League school might be, but a great many people have heard of the school -- if only because of the DPN protest 18 years ago.

I was thinking recognition in the Deaf community. Does it still have sway there?

Pros/Cons: I'm not really sure how to answer this. Gallaudet's a lot like any other school -- it's got its unique perspective on everything. I will say that there's a rather (IMHO) unhealthy emphasis on Audism, but I suppose -isms are obsessed and debated over at just about every school.
How I liked the school: Obviously, I liked it very much, as I graduated from there! But seriously, what I liked the most was the accessibility. If I had attended a hearing college, I'd have to work closely with the Interpreting Department to ensure that the classes I take are accessible to me; to say nothing of extracurricular events (fraternity rushes, plays, movies, lectures, etc.). When I attended Gallaudet, I could be as a "normal" college student and make plans by the seat of my pants, dropping them at the last minute, if I wished to. Hope that answers all your questions. I guess pros/cons and how you like it are more like the same question. Other than the college student experience (which is *quite* an experience), did you like the education they provided, or was it strict, or maybe too laxed? Are the faculty good, barely par, or out of this world? Other than an expected, I suppose, emphasis on Audism, was there any perspective you took from the school that you really liked? Or perhaps one you left behind because you thought it was no good?

Again, thank you a ton for helping me get a little more info about Gally than what I can from the website and mail; more than 'prima facie' is so valuable for school decsions. JoeSmack ^Talk 22:41, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Keep in mind that I only have an BA degree from Gallaudet, and I can't really pretend to be an expert as far as the Graduate School is concerned. But I do have second-hand information attesting to the fact that the Graduate School has some of the best education to offer, as far as a deaf-oriented degree is concerned. If you want to be a social-work counselor for deaf people, Gallaudet is definitely the way to go. As far as the professors that I had, they were all mostly excellent. The only professors I didn't really like were those with below-par signing abilities. As far as the college education that I came away with, I feel that it was perfect. Not too strict, not too lax. Some professors I had were, I thought, excessively anally-retentive, but I suppose those are everywhere. No complaints, though. Hope this helps. Micahbrwn 02:26, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

It would depend on the program. Some programs do not require the ASLPI at all, but of those that do, it takes place during the Graduate School Orientation week. Micahbrwn 07:26, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Denver 2008 - the latest

Hey, Micahbrwn. Thanks for supporting Denver 2008! I'm dropping by the talk pages of all Wikipedians for Denver 2008 today with an update on the bidding process and where Denver's bid is currently at.

First off, Denver has a new, unofficial bid homepage up today: http://www.denverdnc2008.com/ , which you may want to check out for more info on the bid to bring the DNC to the Mile High City in '08.

Second, today the site-selection committee is expected to announce the final two cities in the bid for 2008. It's expected by most pundits and bloggers that Denver and St. Paul will likely be the two finalists, but many think that dark horse New York may edge out a seat in the final days of the bidding process.

Third, we're expecting an official site for Denver's bid to emerge within days from the mind of Colorado Democratic Party V.C. Dan Slater (founder and operator of the popular Colorado blog Demonotes).

Well, that's the basics of the day-after-Labor Day DNC update, from a dem from Denver (that'd be me). Deaf-mute

Hi Micahbrwn. I'm seeking opinions and possible support for an issue in which I'm in a debate with other Wikipedians. I'm trying to change indiscrimant use of the term "deaf-mute" in describing deaf people in general. To see some comments related to the issue, see Talk:The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, as well as my own Talk page, User talk:Ward3001. You can also follow the links to other discussions. Right now I'm about the only person addressing the issue because deaf people are such a small minority. Other Wikipedians, with apparently no prior knowledge of the issue, are reverting my edits.
