Citing quotes within refs[edit]

Just so you know, when you want to use a quote within a citation, the correct parameter is |quote=, rather than |ref= . As you can see, your quote is not visible right now but if you fix the parameter, it will. Mar4d (talk) 03:38, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Bano Qudsia[edit]

On 23 February 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Bano Qudsia, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that author Bano Qudsia has been conferred with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) and the Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Crescent of Excellence) by the Government of Pakistan? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Bano Qudsia. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Bano Qudsia), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

PSL and Cricket Gateway[edit]

Hi. Please don't characterise my reversion as an "unexplained removal of sourced content". I explained it in my edit summary - which is where you're supposed to explain them. My point is that editors have consistently tried to insinuate Cricket Gateway references onto the page - generally through external links or references to it being a key place to watch cricket. That strikes me as being spam.

I don't see how your content adds anything to the section of the article you've added it to - it doesn't follow from the previous content particularly. Simply say that lots of people from India and Pakistan watched it - to have a list of countries with percentages is completely unnecessary and creates a statistically driven set of content rather than something which actually tries to discuss the final. If you can rewrite that more effectively then I'd be happy to correct any written English issues afterwards.

Feel free to reply here, on my talk page or on the article talk page. Blue Square Thing (talk) 21:23, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Blue Square Thing: Fine but why on earth would you remove the match Report subsection?

Ooops - that was my fault - thanks for spotting it. I think the edit we have now is better. I'm sure it can be improved again at some point. By the way, sign your edits of talk pages by using 4 tilde symbols (the ~ symbol 4 times). It helps people keep track of who said what. Blue Square Thing (talk) 21:41, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article ErectaStep has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not a notable brand.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Image without license[edit]

Unspecified source/license for File:Bao (musician).jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Bao (musician).jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 01:45, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Bao (musician).jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Bao (musician).jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 12:02, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:ErectaStep logo.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:ErectaStep logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:16, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Shanaya Fastje.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. September 2017[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Persecution of Hindus. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Kautilya3 (talk) 18:22, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mfarazbaig (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I am requesting an unblock so I could participate in an open PAKHIGHWAY SPI initiated on 7 October and regarding which I wasn't even informed. I would also like to present my case on another open Liborbital SPI whom I'm unrelated to and was blocked as a collateral damage and in a case of mistaken identity. - Mfarazbaig (talk) 12:59, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Yamla: - I feel a limited access to the two SPIs was warranted until those are closed. Anyhow, my User page says, "This account has been confirmed by a CheckUser as a sock puppet of Liborbital". But to my understanding this is absolutely wrong since the CU by Berean says, "Unrelated to the master". The other CU by Callanecc says I'm Unrelated to PAKHIGHWAY.
Now as to what DocJames who filed the Liborbital SPI said, the paid editing tag from Ro2 Art was mistakenly removed when I added the infobox. I'm also sure that I would have zero editing overlaps (except Ro2 Art) to Liborbital or any of their socks, if checked. Note that I have a dynamic IP by default setting from my ISP, so an IP overlap is possible with other Users/editors. Also, my IP Range was already under a block. - Mfarazbaig (talk) 15:54, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

No need to unblock you. Any statement you wish to make with regard to the SPI can be made here. Yamla (talk) 13:03, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Sorry about mistagging your user page. That was my mistake and I have reverted. However you need to explain why you decided to add an infobox to Ro2 Art in the first place: it's extremely unrelated to your other contributions and then it's even more of a coincidence that you accidentally removed {{undisclosed paid}}. In addition, the CU found you are likely related to RetroHulk who is obviously an undisclosed paid editor and also that you were edit warring from IP addresses. SmartSE (talk) 19:42, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Smartse: Before I proceed, I will like to take this opportunity to ask that you WP:EXPLAINBLOCK to me. Please list the reason(s) I was blocked and the type of block. Thanks. - Mfarazbaig (talk) 02:40, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You are primarily blocked as an undisclosed paid editor e.g. per your edits at Ro2 Art and ErectaStep. In addition, the evidence at the SPIs, both behaviourally and technically is strongly indicative of you being a sock. SmartSE (talk) 09:57, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Smartse: I Mfarazbaig, am unrelated to Liborbital, Zalam4u, Albert Dawkins, Bcarere or Joe Gurstein. However, I do have an Alternate account namely: RetroHunk. I don't have any other account(s) to declare. I have now read and understand WP:PAID, as I was notified above earlier this week. Any paid editing must be disclosed and I intend to do so on my userpage once unblocked. I have not used my Alt account in an abusive manner (as the lack of editing overlap shows) apart from some unintentioned undisclosed paid editing.
If unblocked, I intend to follow WP:PAID and discontinue using RetroHunk for fairplay. I will contribute within WP policies & guidelines. I will continue to contribute to articles, most importantly to current events, ITNC and AfD discussions as I have previously done with 1 DYK & 13 ITN Main page postings. I have voluntarily created 13 articles thus far, mainly related to WikiProject Pakistan and will continue to contribute in that manner. Also, I may have a low edit count but the volume of most of my individual edits remains large. Thanks. - Mfarazbaig (talk) 22:58, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mfarazbaig: You have still not explained your edits to Ro2 Art which link you to Liborbital. The fact that you have waited this long to admit to using RetroHulk as a sock is not encouraging either. I also find it hard to believe that these are your only accounts and further the remarks below seem to indicate that there are other legitimate reasons to block you regardless of paid editing. I won't be responding further, if you want another admin to review please make a new unblock request. SmartSE (talk) 19:49, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So now you have revealed that you socked but still not as much as it is evident. You were going to get topic banned from Pakistan-India related articles anyway, I would just mention your anti-Indian propaganda at [1], personal attacks and edit warring on Persecution of Hindus, disruptive voting to defend copyright violation on FFD,[2] and this came after you uploaded number of images on Wikipedia in violation of copyright. We really don't need such socking disruption that not only violates content policies but also legal policies. D4iNa4 (talk) 18:45, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So after a failed PAKHIGHWAY SPI that you filed against me, you have resorted to mud-slinging.
  • Let me quote from the ITNC, what you have termed as "anti-India propaganda", "Oppose - I'm not sure it is notable enough. Sorry, we can't go posting the domestic T20 leagues in every major cricket-playing nation. If we post India's equivalent then we would also have to post those in Australia, Pakistan and maybe the West Indies too, all of which are just as high-level and prestigious. I don't see why the IPL is more notable than the others. If this is posted, it will open the floodgates for at least five stories a year."
  • Care to mention how was I going "to get topic banned from Pakistan-India related articles anyway" because I don't see anyone reporting me for that.
  • The "personal attacks" and "disruptive voting" you talk about are a figment of your imagination.
  • And when you say, "We really don't need such socking disruption". With your socking history it begs a question, how many of you are actually there? - Mfarazbaig (talk) 19:18, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • As I mentioned at your SPI, I am also concerned that you may doing proxy edits for other people.
    • On 29 September, you made a large number of changes to Persecution of Hindus with a wishy-washy edit summary. When challenged, you weren't really able to explain any of your edits except to claim WP:AGF. This is your first signficant edit to that page, but it apparently took you less than three hours to do.
    • On 25 May, you have installed a brand new page on Political movements in Kashmir during the Dogra rule. It was 25,000 characters long, cited a dozen scholarly books, and covered pretty complicated history of over 100 years. And, it took you only a couple of hours to write it? Trust me, an article like that requires months, if not years, of research, but you have never exhibited any interest in Kashmir history earlier or after. Within a couple of hours you were off to writing about baseball. You never went back to that page, not even to fill in the missing bibliography. Somebody else had to insert a link to your article in the Kashmir conflict page, despite the fact that that is where the title of your article came from!
These are just a couple of examples. But if we look closely, I am sure that we will find such problems with a great majority of your edits. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 08:40, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • You have so conveniently failed to mention SIX of my subsequent edits on Persecution of Hindus after your revert, where the edits were explained very clearly in the edit summaries. At the time you failed to mention any specific problem in my edits on the talk page and instead threatened to get me blocked. On the talk page a user in fact had this to say about my edits, "I will agree that a majority of their edits were cleanups and I appreciate the user for it!" - Mfarazbaig (talk) 19:18, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Just a note on your point, Political movements in Kashmir during the Dogra rule was started by User:Towns Hill though it was removed after that person got blocked apparently. It indeed seems like a well-researched article as you concede. However, Mfarazbaig choosing to restore and vouch for it technically isn't a violation; in this case, WP:BANREVERT, and WP:PROXYING mentions "Wikipedians in turn are not permitted to post or edit material at the direction of a banned editor (sometimes called proxy editing or proxying) unless they are able to show that the changes are either verifiable or productive and they have independent reasons for making such edits." Mar4d (talk) 19:07, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have no information that Towns Hill wrote such an article or that Mfarazbaig "restored" it. I would like to see evidence.
Mind you that Towns Hill got topic banned and eventually blocked for failure to follow WP:NPOV. Nobody ever contested his ability to do research. If Mfarazbaig indeed restored his writing, without knowing a thing about the subject, I wonder how he could ensure that it was WP:NPOV. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 21:46, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The "evidence" I believe is your own SPI from May, where you mentioned this article twice. As regards to the final point, Mfarazbaig did edit frequently on Kashmir articles. So I would disagree with the "without knowing a thing about the subject" assumption. What really matters, after the user's independent reasons for restoring, is the content being verifiable. Mar4d (talk) 02:53, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That is interesting. So, you say that Mfarazbaig reinstated the deleted article of a confirmed sock (Losthistory9) of an indefinitely blocked user (Faizan/Towns Hill), and never acknowledged the fact? He installed it as if it is his own writing, representing copyright violation to boot. This gives me the feeling that Mfarazbaig is used to routinely installing other people's contents as if it is his own. He added his own POV as well, by deleting the word "Muslim" from the original title, and making it appear as if he was writing about all political movements. There is no way that we will allow this user near Wikipedia again. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 09:50, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Since Mar4d has already mentioned WP:PROXYING, there's nothing else to say on that account. I guess you haven't read WP:OWN which says, "Work submitted to Wikipedia can be edited, used, and redistributed—by anyone". And unfortunately your "feeling" don't hold much substance here unless backed by evidence. And you may also be unaware of WP:NPOVTITLE, which is why restricting the scope of the article based on religion is not a good idea. Besides as you have already mentioned the title was picked from a similarly titled subsection on Kashmir conflict. And when you say, "no way that we will allow this user near Wikipedia again" it begs a question, how many of you are actually there? - Mfarazbaig (talk) 19:18, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Read WP:NOTTHEM. Then read WP:PLAGIARISM. I am not going to talk to you any more. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 00:31, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Mfarazbaig. Thank you for your work on Zaman Park raid. Klbrain, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Thanks for adding the new content related to 18th March 2023. Most of the page, though, was background paraphrased from the 2023 protests page. So, I think that the new content is better discussed as part of the broader protest.
