I just came over an image marked by your bot and then checked and found Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/MetsBot 11. I saw my request being archived from the bot request page earlier this night and thought all chance of getting my request fulfilled was gone. I just had to say thank you. This was great.

An idea for the bot. The images that has not bin confirmed to be in a category or article on commons may have bin added after the bot checked. Maybe the bot can check these images again after a period. And maybe it should list these images somewhere. Maybe at commons?

I am no image expert...(yet). I am still learning. I would believe it is easiest to check the templates, but there is a third option. It could check what license category the image is in. I'll believe the tags would be easier to compare though but but there are probably templates with different names. I don't know how to deal with them.

As for the PD-problem there is probably no legal issues if the images containes that information, but if it was the en-uploader who released the image to PD, I would imagine the upload log should be there so that it is possible to check the license in the future. If its a random image from the us government that the en-uploader found on the net its not necessary with the en-upload log. Rettetast 07:29, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

I just have to say one more time that this bot feature is great and has saved me a lot of time deleting images. There are almost no backlog left at Category:Images with the same name on Wikimedia Commons.

Some more ideas. Could the bot move the nowcommons template to the top of the image description page when reviewing the image. May save some time.

If the bot can't find the image on commons could it check if the ending is not capitalized. I have seen some images with .JPG at en: but .jpg at commons that the bot has. I have also noticed some images with .jpeg on :en which have bin changed to .jpg on commons.

Bot question

Hiya, thanks for creating the bot, but I had a question. It keeps putting flags on Image:David Perry.jpg, an image that I've moved over to Commons, and would like to get deleted from Wikipedia now. I've tried fixing the image file to address whatever the bot's concerns on, but it's still not happy. Can you please advise what I can add to the Commons page, to get the bot messages to stop? user:Sumibot flooding WP

user:Sumibotis making articles on Indian villages (especially of the state AP) which have no notablity. Sad to see Wikipedia being flooded with so many unnotable articles on villages. The number of villages in India run in lakhs. You can't have an article on every village!

I believe there is no real special source code for MetsBot. User:MetsBot says "This bot runs on the pywikipedia framework for most tasks and AutoWikiBrowser for some." - The pywikipedia framework is freely avaliable [1] and AutoWikiBrowser resides here on WP - WP:AWB. MetsBot in regards to Commons Image Tagging

I just wanted to say how immensely helpful MetsBot has been in clearing out image backlogs for images that have been moved to the commons. I have *yet* to see it wrong on an image tag (unless it says X wasn't done, but it's been done since it was tagged), and it's so good, that if MetsBot says it's clear, I don't even question it, I just delete on sight. It's getting so good, that I almost thing you should have it run RFA and let it delete the images itself (although I know people think Adminbots are bad). Thanks :-) I'd definitely have it run RFA but I think that people would be too paranoid to let it run as an admin. Sounds even better. The commons ones are the backlogs that aren't necessarily the largest, but do take a long time, just because they require so much checking. You've helped a great deal. Talk about History of Automated Adaptive Instruction in Computer Applications

You raised a number of valid complaints on the initial version of this page, and we made changes in response to these complaints. How does it look now? Do you have suggestions for further changes? We are aware that the title is unpleasantly long, but the point is to distinguish this subfield of HCI from a broad, sprawling literature on adaptive instruction that has nothing to do with computer applications. Some of the present paragraphs are rather brief and do not well distinguish what was done in one project versus another, but I think that will solve itself as more people are informed of the existence of this page. -- IH

Thanks for your reply. Let me see what content it acquires as a couple of knowledgeable people contribute over the next few weeks (though I will caution them not to add too much since we don't want it to bloat). The non-encyclopedic flavor you mention may reflect the chronologically ordered entries. I just did that because it was an easy way to start, and will provoke experts to add more good information, because people like to set the record straight about who did what first. Once a bit more content and substance is in there, it may be possible and advantageous to reorganize it in a non-chronological fashion, which may help make it more encyclopedia-like.

But to be honest I think the entry on HCI would probably really sprawl if we put this topic in with it, especially since there would be a dozen other subtopic that are equally significant. However, I could imagine a broader entry on "User Interfaces, Adaptive" that might provide a natural home for this and also for other research that involves UIs that adapt to the user rather than trying to teach the user (for example, if you repeatedly hit the wrong command, the adaptive UI may say "would you like us to make a shortcut out of that?" --related to what is being reviewed here, but also different).

Anyway, thanks again for your help--I will keep an eye on this and try to keep it evolving in a useful direction in light of your comments. -- IH

Subst'ing Signatures

Why are you subst'ing signatures that are templates? It mignt be the right thing according to WP:SIG, but have you ever thought that maybe people do it on purpose??? People like me. My Sig is pretty complicated and it looks DISGUSTING in its full form, thats why its A LOT better as a nice, clean, simple template. It also does not prevent you from telling who the writer is since the template its-self is in my name space. Tell me which one you prefer:

This move is part of an effort to make it look as if there is a US claim to certain Arctic islands of Russia. The US State Department has made it very clear that "None of the islands or rocks above were included in the U.S. purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867, and they have never been claimed by the United States, although Americans were involved in the discovery and exploration of some of them." [3] The move of Wrangel Island with one "l" (an island of Russia) to Wrangell Island (Northern) is based on the assertions of a small lobbying group called State Department Watch. These claims, along with the change in spelling, are supported only by this private group, and not backed up by any reliable source. Would you mind helping to undo these unjustified moves? I saw that you reverted my change. I did not know that the template was also used outside the user space. I appologize for that. What is wrong with your bot?

It has reviewed a number of satellite images including in the TC wikiproject, which has appropriate documentation and links where possible, and it appears to be suggestion mass deletions. Do you see anything missing within their documentation (i.e, Image:Levi1997052603GMS5VS.jpg)? I'm going to inform the TC wikiproject that they're about to lose of number of images because of this bot. Thegreatdr 17:29, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Nothing was wrong with it, really. The files do qualify as fair use. I was just hoping they'd be deleted so that I could issue the user a copyright warning if they did it again. Deletion criteria question

I've been marking my photos previously uploaded to WP that are now on Commons with {{subst:ncd}}. They have been tagged with "This image does not give credit to uploader Zaui on Commons." First, I'm not sure what this means. The name of the uploader is shown on the image page on Commons, is this what is meant by 'credit'? I just approved you for AWB. :-) You won't have access to the auto-save, but you won't need it for the typo fixing. Reverting

Because I ran out of time to revert more. I've already sent a message to the bot operator to stop it, since it's free-association style of random comments serves no purpose. Notice that there's links inside comments - these are equally useless to both encyclopedia readers (who won't see the comment) adn editors (who can't follow the link by clicking on it). ok, no one seems to agree with using the small tag, fine. :] it just looks quite sloppy having the big text that causes in this case the names to go onto other lines. it is hard to even tell what is what. anyway, while you are at it, could you fix the redirects at Trentino-Upper Adige/South Tyrol and Trentino-Alto Adige/South Tyrol? they are locked down and pointing to the wrong page. cheerio.
