The Borda count is the most well-known example of positional voting (PV) but it is not the only one. My draft userspace sub-page on PV contrasts the Borda count with other valid examples. Systematic distributions of points or weightings include arithmetic progressions (all of which produce rankings equivalent to the Borda count), geometric progressions (examples of GV - geometric voting) and fractions where the denominators form an arithmetic progression (e.g. the Nauru system). Some arbitrary sequences of weightings are also in use (e.g. Eurovision Song Contest). Consecutively Halved Positional Voting (CHPV) is singled out from the GV sub-class of PV (itself a sub-class of preferential voting) as it has a critical - rather than an arbitrary - common ratio and its resultant threshold properties make it an important intermediate voting system between the First-past-the-post and the Borda count methods. The external GV/CHPV website (see user page) to which all relevant references point includes mathematical proofs and other technical details to substantiate all claims made so that anyone and everyone can peer review them.
