Non-free use disputed for File:Bookjacket,_Luchow's_Cookbook.jpg

Hi Mellesse, Am not quite sure how to do this so hope you get this message. Re. the disputed file thanks for bringing to my attention what I asume is wrong here, that I haven't got the documentation right, not that it's an inappropriate use. Will follow the links you have indicated... though it seems to me I followed the instructions... and still came up with something different that what - at one time - was able to find on other fair use images Best Bruce. Non-free use disputed for File:Bookjacket,_Luchow's_Cookbook.jpg

I have now revised the fair use rationale at Non-free-use-disputed-File:Bookjacket Luchow's Cookbook.jpg, and would be grateful if you would have a look to see if it's up to snuff. BruceWHain (talk) 00:52, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Hello, Melesse. You have new messages at Ablucher's talk page.
Message added Ablucher (talk) 11:43, 28 October 2011 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Please help with your tagging of three images

You have disputed three of my images on non-free use rationale:

File:MGR_as_Alibaba.jpg Alibaba_1956_film_tamil_intertitle.png Alibaba_1956_film_english_intertitle.png

You have asked me to change the description for these images, however, I did not understand which part I need to change. Please help me change the necessary parts in a way acceptable in Wikipedia. I am new to Wikipedia, so please explain in simple words what is wrong with the images.

Also may I have your e-mail ID? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jinjanjaa (talkcontribs) 05:54, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Please read the non-free content criteria, particularly criteria #8. The film's title card in different languages and pictures of the main actors in the movie are not necessary to understanding the article about the film. Melesse (talk) 18:36, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Good Day, I thank you for your notes on my image, I am having a hard time understanding the proper formatting when working with images. I would appreciate your help. I actually found the album cover on someone's blog, and it can also be found on Amazon.com, I also have the record. Can you please advice on what I need to get this image up and running please. Thank you OTT1031 15:28, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Please read the non-free content criteria, particularly criteria #8. You may notice that no other musical artist pages contain images of their albums; that's in accordance with that criteria #8 of the policy. Melesse (talk) 18:33, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Image Licensing Issue

I noticed the image I recently uploaded was removed and after including (what I thought) was the correct syntax it was orphaned yet again. Could you possibly explain what I am doing wrong, I have looked at multiple articles though none seem to point me in the right direction. The image is from a video game to which I have rights to publish, I hope that makes sense.

Thank you, ProfessorCharlesFrancis (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 05:03, 1 December 2011 (UTC).

Please help

I got your notice about the image I uploaded (File:Stillpower.png)[1] File:Stillpower.png and realized I had not put the correct article name so I fixed that. I am unsure how to properly document this image. It appears to be "fair use" as I read the article (Category:Book covers)[2] and in addition I have received permission from the author, who is the copyright holder, for it's use anywhere. How do I make sure the image does not get deleted. Thanks so much for your help. Steveswei 15:28, 17 November 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Steveswei (talkcontribs)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:M*A*S*H TV title screen.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:M*A*S*H TV title screen.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. George Ho (talk) 05:51, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:M*A*S*H TV title screen.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:M*A*S*H TV title screen.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please remove the tag.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. George Ho (talk) 05:51, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

thank you

for informing me about copyright issues surrounding some of my pictures at Abraham Lincoln: The Hoosier Youth. I went to start doing something about it today and discovered that they are now all orphans. Gone. Since all the details that I had included pictures of were mentioned in the text I felt that I had a shot at fair use, but am now inclined to not bother. But I do appreciate your message to me on the subject. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 21:47, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

hey Thanxx for telling me about Koli peopple data.jpeg & what can i do ?

Hey melesse , u have send me a message & tagged the koli people data.jpeg for deletion . Let me tell u that this is my own work & you could even find a copy of this image @ Joshua Project . Please untag it from deletion . i have provided the purpose of the image . and if you cant untag it , then plzzz guide me what to do now so that image could not be deleted ? Divy1996 (talk) 05:56, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

re: File:Street fighter comic zero.jpg

It might have helped if you had looked at the file's history. An IP cut out the article parameter which is what put the file on your list.

Fixing the vandalism rather than tagging for deletion would have been more appropriate.

- J Greb (talk) 22:38, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

No, I actually did realize that and still meant to add that deletion tag. Melesse (talk) 23:45, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Learning

Hi, I have uploaded an image to be used in an article that I am working on in my user space. It is my first article, so I am trying to to make sure it is right before posting it. I have added (I think) the licensing information that was missing, but it still shows that the image is orphaned, because the article it relates to is still in progress in my user space.

What do I need to do?

RE: Orphaned non-free media (File:DSC00299_-_Claridad_newspaper_front_page,_Nov_4-10,_2010.jpg)

Melesse, could you please speedily delete this media file. It is not needed as a copy of the paper's front page had already been uploaded and included in the article in question. It was my oversight - I should had checked the article one more again just before uploading. Thanks! Mercy11 (talk) 14:13, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

talk back entry

Hello, Melesse. You have new messages at Athenae's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Hopefully, the copyright issue is addressed now. For a screen shot of a Wikipedia page, it was awfully difficult to get Wikipedia to approve it...! ;-)

Square_Union_Jack

Hi,

You deleted the image of the Square Union Jack that I created (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Square_Union_Jack.svg) because of missing copyright info. Is there any way you can restore this because I don't want to go though the trouble of creating it again!

Thanks, Renatus

Done. Please add a license or it will get deleted again. Melesse (talk) 03:19, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Prince Valiant excerpt 1.jpg‎

Hi, I noticed you slapped a {{di-disputed fair use rationale}} on File:Prince Valiant excerpt 1.jpg‎ after I included it in Canadian comics and added a fair use rationale for that usage. Could you please elaborate on what's disputed? I don't understand how it violates NFCC #8. CüRlyTüRkeyTalkContribs 03:55, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

The prose in the article doesn't really require an embedded illustration for a reader to understand it. The image is already used in two other articles with a specific focus on the comic the image is from, so a click-able link to the comic's main article would be sufficient to a reader who is curious about it. Early_19th_century_hat_box

Hi Melesse, I'm so new at this it's embarrasing. You messaged me that the above image was orphaned. Here's what happened - I am writing a new page for Paperboard Packaging, but composing it in my sandbox, which is why the page doesn't exist yet. Do I need to wait until the page is created before uploading any new images? Thanks, Alevkoff (talk) 15:20, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Yes, please do wait until the article is published outside of userspace before you add more images. Melesse (talk) 15:28, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Thomas Fielding Johnson Portrait.jpg‎

Hi Melesse. Following your advice, I've now added a fair-use rationale to the Thomas Fielding Johnson Portrait.jpg image description. I've also added a comment to the talkpage. I hope this is all that's needed to stop the image being automatically deleted? Leicesterscribe (talk) 22:57, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Re: Orphaned non-free media (File:Andain_M2M_cover.jpg)

This image was intended to be used under an article of the listed name, which is about an upcoming single that will be released the 30th this month. However, it ultimately came to a point where I was unsure whether to create that article just yet, so I ended up quitting it.

I understand this image will eventually be deleted according to Wikipedia's terms of use. But after this, will I be able to reupload the image to the same namespace again ? Cuz I'd love to use that namespace for this image, when the time comes for the article to be published...

I has unique username (talk) 12:10, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Yes, you'll be able to re-upload it with the same name again. Melesse (talk) 23:56, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Re: The Original cover to Sorceror's Stone

I'll see what I can do, however I did not fully understand what some of the form was asking for, so I answered what I could.

Warwolf1 (talk) 17:29, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

As a note, I have since updated the info, and I believe the image should no longer be an issue anymore. Please let me know if something else has come up where it is still disputed and I will try to deal with whatever problem is brought up based on it.

Warwolf1 (talk) 17:49, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

This image was intended for use in an article which is currently in the review pending stage. I shall wait until it has been created as an article before adding images next time!

Please read the guidelines on writing fair use rationales. "Illustration" isn't an adequate purpose of use. Melesse (talk) 21:32, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

I just got permission from Raj Kundra via Twitter to use the image for the page, how do I go about proving this if necessary? BigzMMA (talk) 11:46, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Ravi Shankar's Music Festival from India poster

Hi there. (Hope this message gets to you - not quite sure how to reply to previous talk.) Re the Shankar poster: sorry, I'll be sure to upload images after an article has been accepted in future. (I can see you hear that a lot!) All the best, JG66 (talk) 15:28, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Stjohntribunedetail.jpg

Hi Melesse, I don't know what other image I can use in order to replace this image. It's a newspaper footage from over 80 years ago. Please advice me, or alternately let it stay as it is. It's very ilustrative to the article Robert William St. John, in my opinion. Thx! עמירם פאל (talk) 09:20, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

The article's prose can adequately cover that St. John was a newspaper reporter, there's no need for a clipping to actually illustrate it. Melesse (talk) 12:24, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

File:Author-Trevor-Blake.jpg

Please make this clearer for me. The numerous pages I have read say different things. I would like to include a photo with my article under submission. Must I get permission from the copyright holder and if I am able to obtain it, to whom do I send this information to and in what form? What do you mean by "taking a picture of it myself?" What kind of alterations are allowable to make this photo usable right now? DeQuendre (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:52, 15 February 2012 (UTC).

You have two options here: 1) Get that copyright permission for that particular photo (see here for instructions on how to do that); or 2) Take your own photo of Trevor Blake (for example, at a book signing or other public event he's attending). Melesse (talk) 04:40, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

I have copied the justification on replacement, which was already present on this page, to new locations, per your request. Did you have some reason to dispute that justification? Martin (talk) 15:00, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Edmund Blampied

Hello Melesse.

I write to you because I need to use that photo File:EBPortrait1938.jpg.

And this another one File:EBOccupStamps1.jpg

I want to know if I may use it to illustrate the french article about fr:Edmond Blampied ?

I hope I can use it. Thank you for your answer. 2.0.206.26 (talk) 09:19, 21 March 2012 (UTC)

I believe the French Wikipedia has its own rules regarding fair use; you'd be better off asking an administrator there. Melesse (talk) 09:44, 21 March 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Melesse
An image that you have uploaded, namely File:My Neighbor Totoro - Tonari no Totoro (Movie Poster).jpg, has an invalid source. Any clues?
