Help with uploading Photo

Hi,

Can you help me to understand how to upload my photo properly? It was deleted so I did something wrong. I don't understand.

Thanks. ReliableCyber Reliablecyber (talk) 22:54, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

About File:Charging Bull at Bowling Green 060621.jpg

Hi, I'm the admin from zh.Wikipedia. There is a request for deletion on the captioned photo in zh.wiki based on the reason of "the original photo was deleted this side". I'm going to handle this case, but I'm rather confused. It's because the photo on zh.wiki was claimed that it was licensed under cc-by-sa. However, the one this side was deleted because of falsely fair use. I wonder what is the license of this photo at the latest version. Thank you very much. --J.Wong 11:02, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

The license on the latest version was {{Non-free fair use in}}. Melesse (talk) 11:12, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
Thank you.--J.Wong 15:40, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

About a deletion

Hi Melesse,

you just deleted 3 images from the media commons (File:Pac ag.png, File:Eu ag.png, File:Titan upfront.jpg) due to a "lack of source info". I wrote in these images' description that i was waiting for the hosting website (battletracker) permission for these images which I just recieved in an email. They were given to this website (http://battletracker.com/index.php?page=BF2142GameInfo&action=vehicles) from the EA’S Website FanKit and they gave me the permission to use them as a dercriptive purpose in my Battlefield 2142 Vehicles article.

What can be done? Can we rollback the delete? Do i need to upload them again?

Thanks for your time.

2011 Pan American Games medal

By doing a quick internet search an image with a license that can be used on wikipedia cannot be found. Would you like to take a look please. Also consider the past games in 2007 have a similar license. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 22:00, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Seeing as the event is taking place later this year, it will be possible to take a freely licensed photo of them then. Additionally, the article doesn't particularly need a photo of the medals (as it is, the photo is purely for decorative purposes). Melesse (talk) 06:49, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
I challenge you to go find one, I was over at the help boards and this is what a couple of admins. suggested. Of course the article needs the picture every multi-sporting event has a picture of the medals awarded. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 15:40, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
I disagree with your sweeping statement that every multi-sporting event has a picture of the medals awarded. For example, none of the articles for the Pan American Games previous to 2007 have them. I'm not disagreeing with you when you say that a freely licensed image isn't available right now; but it will be possible to get one in the future (during or after the games). Melesse (talk) 23:03, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Can you remind me ?

I know it was a long time ago, and it was even longerback that I uploaded them. But can you tell me what was wrong with the image File:G.W. Watson 1907.jpg and also File:M.J. Dore 1907.jpg. I seem to recall that they were crops from a pre-1955 shot that is by definition PD in Australia. Do you recall the issue ? -Sticks66 11:06, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

There was no specified source on those images. Melesse (talk) 18:02, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Melesse,

I just uploaded the image file Fred_C._Bond_in_1972.jpg & am TRYING to use it in a new bio article on him (my first full article) in my user page. When I preview the page the image does not appear, just the URL which is in red and truncated within a text box. What am I doing wrong? Cuban Fire! (from 1956)

Hi Melesse,

Please give me a little time on this if possible (a day or two). It is not orphaned and I will be using this image. The article on the CD/LP of Kenton's Cuban Fire! is taking a lot of non-web, hard copy sources from my office at the U of Memephis (many footnotes). I am literally surrounded with books, CDs, and LPs on my desk (in front of me---right now!). I am in the middle of a (fruitful) Billboard magazine search for this CD...very cool, it was rated very hihgly in sales in Dec. of 1956...this has taken a while to find though.

...if you can hang on a bit I will finish it up and move the 'whole banana' to a real page soon.

Thanks for understanding!

Maruchan Images

Hi Melesse,

I believe I remedied the non-free fair use template disputation by correctly linking each image with a url pertaining to each image and by additionally adding to the non-free use rationale of each image file. Please let me know if this adequately describes the image and shows why it qualifies for fair use.

Thank you. Traviskeith909 (talk) 15:45, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

File:Fox-Crime.png needs authorship information.

Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Fox-Crime.png appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided),authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which:{{subst:usernameexpand|Melesse/Archive 52}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:17, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

File:Knievel_shark_jump_promotional_photograph.

I'm not sure if I did something wrong when I changed the fair use rationale for File:Knievel_shark_jump_promotional_photograph.? Was I supposed to also remove the tag after updating? I asked for the file to be restored, but it may still be wrong. If restored, could you take a look? ThanksDocob5 (talk) 14:37, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

I've updated the fair rationale of Knievel_shark_jump_promotional_photograph.jpg. Could you please review and let me know if it meets the requirements? Thanks.Docob5 (talk) 02:30, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
The photo appeared on your page at full size. So rather than placing it on you talk page, I took the link off. As you can tell, I'm still in a learning curve.Docob5 (talk) 02:32, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Your rationale still doesn't satisfy criteria #8 of the image fair use policy. Melesse (talk) 07:28, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for the direction on the criteria. I have inserted the missing information.Docob5 (talk) 21:35, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Just wanted to check if you feel the criteria has not been met?Docob5 (talk) 02:19, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
No, I don't think it has. Melesse (talk) 03:06, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
Okay...I'll let it go. Thanks again for helping with direction.Docob5 (talk) 13:34, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Byrne

Hello, I see that you patrol pics and sometimes remove those inappropriately uploaded. I see that the use of this non-free photo [[File:Caroline Byrne.jpg]] on this page is claimed under a fair-use rationale. I'm having trouble understanding how the information cited in the summary is an adequate justification for the shot to stay. The shot is either out of copyright or it isn't and since it was taken in the 1990s, then in Australia it is still in copyright. I wonder if I could I get your view on it please ? Cheers -Sticks66 14:06, 10 August 2011 (UTC)Sticks66 13:53, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Since the subject of the article is deceased, it's no longer possible to get a free-license photo of her, so the only remaining option is fair use. The current fair use rationale addresses most of the important points but misses #8, contextual significance. Melesse (talk) 00:37, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

mccain seizes microphone from supporter

The image you tagged for deletion cannot be replaced. The image was an important event for the McCain campaign and received a lot of media coverage. it is historically unique and the subject - accusations that Obama was an Arab, anti-Arab sentiment among Republicans in 2008, make this incredibly important. Simply put, deleting this image will do great harm to the encyclopedia. You don't need me to tell you that wikipedia is WP:NOTCENSORED, and this is a perfect example where a good image is at stake.--Screwball23 talk 02:05, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

How does that picture describe the incident any better than the article's current text does? Melesse (talk) 02:28, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Ok, I think I fixed the page. It wasn't easy, so thank god I got it now.--Screwball23 talk 02:36, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

I got your message

I don't know what the issue is. I put rationales on there. I don't want to get personal here, but I see no reason why the McCain image is being targeted. I want to talk with a noticeboard on this, because I want a third party on this. I have no idea where to go, please let me know.--Screwball23 talk 03:57, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

File:Brisco County Jr character.png

Greetings. I know about the orphaned image rule. I uploaded this image as part of an article I just started developing in userspace, but is not yet ready for general release. I can't seem to figure out how to get the file to link in my userspace page. When I place the userspace link into the image's box, it doesn't work. Any pointers?AstroCog (talk) 22:57, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

I figured it out. Can I remove the warning tag, or is that something you do?AstroCog (talk) 04:43, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:DonMoenThankYouLordAlbumcover.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:DonMoenThankYouLordAlbumcover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 17:15, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
