Congratulations on your successful request for adminship. I am glad you passed, and you are welcome for the support. For information on using your new tools, see the school for new admins; you will find it very useful. Good luck! Acalamari 17:58, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Your RfA

Congrats as well. I think the work you've done/will do in image sorting/size reduction/deletion is very valuable to the project. Some opposes made the point of your relative lack of article writing/work but I'm a firm believer that every editor finds the niche that calls to them and does best in those areas. Article writing is only part of the encyclopedia and admins in particular must deal with maintenance issues, something you're already doing. Your willingness to apply yourself to an area that sorely needs as many hands as it can get was a clincher for me. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask me. Just not about image policy yet. ;) Cheers, Pigman 00:18, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Feynman book cover photo

Did you speedily delete Image:Feynman-book-cover-pic.jpg, or was it subjected to a deletion review that I missed? I ask, because as a book cover it certainly would have passed the WP:RAT test, and I think should have been given a chance to do so. As is, you wiped out the main photo illustrating the bio of the man! What was the rush? SBHarris 05:31, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Wow

[1] - see I knew you needed those buttons!! Like a hot knife though butter.....Pedro :  Chat  10:47, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Impressive. The only way I can tell you know what you're doing, Melesse, is that I don't see zillions of messages here like "Hey, where'd my image go?" But I'm proud of you. Keep up the good work. I hope you're enjoying having the tools. --Coppertwig (talk) 22:55, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Bad day

Hi, Melesse. I'm not in a good mood today. I had a rough day at school most of today, and I was blocked from editing on Wiktionary today, and, because of that, have nothing to edit there, even my Wiktionary userpage! And that's not fair!:'-( (starts crying) I need cheering up. Please respond on my talk page, and be polite, because I am not in a good mood today.Kitty53 (talk) 23:32, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi! I saw your name on the recent change page minutes ago. Please block the user. Thank you. Oda Mari (talk) 05:45, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the message and the blocking. Happy editing! Oda Mari (talk) 05:55, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Improper deletion

Hi Melesse - I just wanted to drop you a line to advise you that your deletion of Image:SethPubPhotowithcopyrightinfo.jpg was in error. There was copyright information on the page; it just wasn't in the form of a image copyright tag.
Anyway, I just thought I'd let you know, because I like to be informed when I make mistakes with my buttons, and do unto your neighbour and all that. Cheers, Sarcasticidealist (talk) 13:55, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

deletion of stills from Metropolis (film)

Hi, you deleted two images that were stills from Metropolis (film) without any warning on the article's talk page. I believe they could be used by claiming fair use in that article and would have added the required info if I had been warned. BTW, I would prefer that a Bot do image removals, because they leave warning messages automatically.

This is a request to restore these images for use in Metropolis (film) under fair use:

--Jtir (talk) 14:17, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Well I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the bot thing, because I never delete any image that hasn't had some deletion tag on it for at least 7 days, and it doesn't look like a bot gave any warning on the article talk page when someone tagged the two stills. I'll restore them for and update the tags with today's date, but if they don't have the proper info by this time next week I (or some other admin) will delete them again. Melesse (talk) 01:36, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your quick restoration. The resolution of Image:Metropolis-new-tower-of-babel.jpg was too high for fair use, so I reduced it and uploaded Image:Metropolis-new-tower-of-babel.png as a replacement. Editors watching an article may not be watching the images linked in the article. That is why image deletion notifications need to be on the article talk page. For example, I edited an image caption in Metropolis (film), but did not touch the image itself and was not watching the image. --Jtir (talk) 09:48, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Info requested re image copyright

A user is requesting information, via a helpme template, at User:Geo Swan/Guantanamo/Images on copyright status of some images. I thought you might be able to help them. You can just leave it for someone else to handle if you want (if it's not already answered by the time you read this). --Coppertwig (talk) 03:21, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Do17z wikifilm.jpg

Hello Melesse,

You created a reduced version of an already reduced scan that was purposely cropped in such a way as not to have a complete image of a subject and frame. The reason the original was so large was for researchers could see the details of the audio track, the details on the aircraft and anything else someone may find interesting. I did not find any size limits on Fair Use images. Here is link on the discussion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Media_copyright_questions#Complex_case.2C_or_maybe_easy_one.2C_with_huge_historical_value

I would like to have a larger resolution image, please advise on what is acceptable. --Flightsoffancy (talk) 03:33, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Where is the source info?--Rockfang (talk) 11:00, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Talk page archiving

Hey Melesse,

Glad to see you're enjoying the buttons, not to mention the fun drama that comes with it :) I just wanted to let you know that, since you'll probably be getting a lot of messages as an admin, you might want to consider setting up automatic archiving of your talk page to prevent it from getting too cluttered up. Naturally, you don't have to do this, but I've had archiving on for several months now, and even as a non-admin I find it to be pretty useful. Thanks! --jonny-mt 04:20, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

SVG edits

I see that you have edited a number of my SVG files. To be honest I don't understand why you did. You do realise that SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphics? Reducing them serves no purpose? Fosnez (talk) 09:40, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Fair Use

Greetings, Melesse. Can you help me with a question, please? Well, I'm not american and I don't live in USA, so, ¿Can I use fair use in my images? This is a problem that I have since I Started editing in Wikipedia. Bye! Mr. Manu (talk) 01:20, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

  • Thanks for answer me. Well, I know that only americans can use Fair Use in images, or everything in Wikipedia can use this?

Hi, could you please restore this image and I will add a Fair Use Rationale? I was not the original uploader, but I think that the image perfectly illustrates its respective article, and I would like to be given the chance to add a Fair Use Rationale to it. Thanks! Orphaned non-free media (Image:Kaiizen_logo.jpg)

Hi Melesse. So what was wrong with this image? It is a logo of an organization, so it should be all good--and it's not associated with an article yet because I'm currently created its parent article and am about to release it. --Email4jonathan (talk) 03:19, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey - Thanks for the heads-up regarding the image. There is no article yet b/c I am currently writing it in my sandbox. It's not quite ready to be an actual article at the moment, but it definitely will be shortly. Can you tell me how to make sure the image isn't deleted before the article gets finished? Cheers, PaddyM (talk) 04:17, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

fair use rationale - help?

Hi, you recently deleted Image:Wooly_Rhino.png. Although I was not the uploader, I have been trying to fix fair use rationales where they are justified in hopes of salvaging images and trying to correct other copyvio issues. I had recently added a fair use template and filled it in with what I thought was a satisfactory justification. I'm curious whether my justification was insufficient, and if so what about it was insufficient, so I can correct what I'm doing to save images. Thanks for your help.--Doug.(talk contribs) 02:03, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Image source problem with Image:Crazy Cat Lady.png

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Crazy Cat Lady.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:38, 9 March 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 11:38, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

The file you mentioned (Waking_Life_Soundtrack.JPG) is no longer orphaned. See it here: Waking Life. Steve1138 (talk) 11:06, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Why didn't you put a dispute tag on my photo in regards to the Syrian agents beating up Lebanese protestors? That was a great photo and now I can't find it again. It was a free use image, not good.

Image:The Private World of Darkness.jpg

Can you restore this image so that I may add fair use rationale to it? Thanks. Travisl (talk) 14:48, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! I've added the rationale and restored its place in its related article. Travisl (talk) 15:42, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Product packaging

Hello Melesse, Do you know if self made images of product packaging are subject to copyright? Example here [2], [3] have copyright tags but many others on Commons are [4] [5] licensed as free? I'd have thought the artwork would be subject to copyright. Polly (Parrot) 15:43, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi

You have deleted Kashmir Singh Image. It was a screen shoot and I have mentioned all the details required (by referring wiki image license help and tutorial). It was a screen shoot from the local news channel IBN

Please let me know the reason for deleting the image. I was about to use it in Kashmir Singh Article.

Apparently WikiZnanie is licensed under the FreeBSD Documentation License, so it's actually a free image and I gave it the wrong tag a year ago. I don't know which one to use, however. --SyntaxError55 talk 12:59, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Fair use rationale for Image:Actiontrip.png

I'm afraid this is too much bureaucracy for me to figure out. I understand why it's necessary to explain how an image doesn't violate copyright, and I respect that, but I don't see how that's even possible for a simple screenshot of a website. If the image has to be deleted because of Wikipedia policy then I have no objections. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by AnonymousOrc (talkcontribs) 16:25, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
