He is a newstrader and asks his secretary to delete anything that does not praise him!

McMatter, the edits you undid are not fair. It is sourced from this interview with the subject of the article, where he admits he is a newstrader and gets his secretary to undo anything he feels is unfair. @JosephBone: there are 2 concerns with your editing of said article one is you have a Conflict of Interest in writing about this subject matter. This Conflict of Interest could make it very difficult to write about in a Neutral manner or not being able to see how promotional the article may look. Phrases like "Over 2,000 cheerleaders participate in the Parade annually and are regularly praised for their energetic performances." are pure promotion and not neutral, all that is needed for an encyclopedia is something along the lines of "Over 2,000 cheerleaders participate in the Parade annually" any more addition is promotional fluff.- McMatter (talk)/(contrib) 15:10, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi, understand that - The 'praised for their energetic performances' was a citation from a news article. Therefore not promotional fluff within the wikipedia guidelines surely? I am not trying to be difficult. It seems there is more an agenda here than anything else. I also did not write the amendments, so there was no conflict of interest. Additionally, I edited to check all citations were correct and that it was not written in a promotional tone. To be honest, my opinions of Wikipedia are ever decreasing. I have had an independent source read the article and remove any possible speculation of promotional fluff, irrespective of my view as to correct or incorrect. Reading over it is not great reading and certainly not promotional. It fits all criteria I believe? Anyway you can leave up your boxes on the page etc. I do not think they are justified anymore but if you feel that you want to, there is not a lot that us contributors can do.— Preceding unsigned comment added by JosephBone (talk • contribs)

@ChiswickMan12345: I'm sorry to hear your opinions of Wikipedia are declining because the community tries to restrict the amount of advertising and promotion that happens in the articles. This is a fundamental policy of Wikipedia and of any encyclopedia. Encyclopedia are meant as a place of facts, a reporters opinion is not a fact. All editors on Wikipedia are not paid and volunteer to build and maintain the encyclopedia. Hi Mcmatter - I am afraid as it stands it is factually incorrect in many ways. Clearly this fits in with an agenda that you may have. On the record it should be noted the current page is entirely inaccurate and rather worrying that you believe it to be correct currently. I am telling you it is factually incorrect. I am glad Wikipedia does not encourage advertising or promotional pages. However if administrators like you are editing then frankly I do lose faith as you delete facts with inaccuracies as it suits your agenda. Very disturbing. @ChiswickMan12345:I am not an administrator nor do I have any agenda against this event nor any other. My only agenda is to prevent the organizers of said events from coming on here to promote their events which what you have clearly come to do. As an editor with a Conflict of Interest you really need to understand how to best work within Wikipedia. At the most you should only change basic facts like attendance numbers and dates. Anything else you should be placing an edit request on the talkpage of the article so that an editor without your apparent conflict of interest can review it and ensure the addition or change meets Wikipedia's policies including WP:NPOV. I am willing to work with you to make the article the best it can be but you need to step back, look through the links given to you and put down the pitchfork. Tagging of Peer Fani Masjid, Bidar

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Peer Fani Masjid, Bidar. I do not think that Peer Fani Masjid, Bidar fits any of the speedy deletion criteria  because The mention of a district (Bidar) and of the town in the district are sufficient to give context. A google search confirms that the town exists in that district.. I'm not familiar with the original but since he has been dead for 2 years I doubt much has changed towards his notability. Clovis, California Edits

Dear Sir,

I do not understand your deletion of my recent edits to the Clovis, California entry. Initially you removed my additions, then you've removed the entire section "Community-based organizations (non-profits)." This does not make sense to me.

A city and its community is in good part defined by the kind of organizations that are built, established, and which thrive in the community. It adds to a visitors knowledge and understanding of what is available in the community for its residents and visitors.

If you think the section should be renamed, please make a suggestion by all means. Otherwise, please provide additional justification for removing community organizations from a community/city entry.

@BethBridges55:Wikipedia is an encyclopedia not a place for listings of organizations in your community unless they are notable on their own. By notable I mean they have met the requirements for inclusion in Wikipedia, otherwise if you wish to add them back it is on you to provide valid reasons for inclusion on Wikipedia. Thank you sir, I did research the guidelines for cities and I see that there isn't a category for "community organizations" so I can see that the list as a whole should be split up into approved categories such as Arts and Culture or Amenities. I will edit to create those and fill them out. I will also research to learn whether anything on Wikipedia needs to already be an article or if it's just notable people. Deleting "Tower of Hanoi" external link

Hi Mcmatter, I added some external links on the 'Tower of Hanoi' page yesterday, linking to content generated on thewalnut.io and was deleted due it was considered spam. Thewalnut.io is a project started precisely with the goal of generate and distribute freely modifiable versions of these algorithm visualizations and is already been used for educational purposes in many universities around the world (even more, in parallel the dev team is talking with the Wikipedia Widget dev team to find a way of embedding it inside Wikipedia) so I can't figure out why it is considered spam. @MarcosSponton: Even the post above is spammy in tone. The link you provided may be as great and wonderful, however the external link section of an article is not a place to put every great and wonderful link possible. If this were the case many times the external link section would be huge and possibly longer then the article itself, as such we have limitation on what we accept in this section please feel free to read through WP:EL. If you can prove your link falls within the acceptable parameters of this policy please feel free to add it back in. Regarding article submission

Hello,

It's 3 time my submission got rejected. I am beginner and I don't understand what exactly going wrong. I read the instruction given by the rejector but not clear to me. Even before submitting I checked,

Editor: Cite -> "Error Check" - Didn't find any error in my content. But still rejects.

"This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability—see the general guideline on notability and the golden rule. Please improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. What you can do: Add citations (see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners) to secondary reliable sources that are entirely independent of the subject."

This is what I am receiving every time. I think that should be a small issue but as a beginner I am not sure how to fix.

@Dey.sanjoy: the reason your article is continually being rejected is you have no reliable sources to prove your article is notable enough for inclusion in Wikipedia. Github is not reliable and only proves it exists not that anyone cares. You need to provide Citations from Magazines, Books, Newspapers, Trade publications etc. The official website is not considered reliable. @Michelle.lee18:It has nothing to do with your edits, it has to do with the fact the article is not referenced with any Reliable Sources. If you know of a magazine or book which has discussed this term or system you can cite it and remove the PROD. The edit that you deleted was not an advertisement or a public service announcement- it belongs in the Third-Party Accessories section of the Game Boy Camera wikipedia entry because the BitBoy device that GameBoyPhoto made represents the next stage in Third-Party development in this sphere- really there has never been a device that dealt with the code in this way, and there have been no suitable substitutes manufactured in the past 10 years, so it seems logical to include it this development in the history of the Game Boy Camera's Third Party Accessories. I would have cited the source, but I'm new to wikipedia- perhaps you're able to enter this information yourself, and cite the source? I'm part of a group on Facebook that is trying to crowd-source Game Boy Camera knowledge, and here is the reliable source where we found out about the BitBoy:

@Markshahar50: what I mean is it is generally frowned upon to hijack an article for a questionably notable subject. Your best place to work on an article is Draft:Jon Harari where you can work on it with less fear of deletion and can have an experienced editor review it to ensure it meets Wikipedia inclusion criteria by adding {{subst:submit}} to the top of the page.McMatter (talk)/(contrib) 22:55, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

I have repeatedly responded to Rockypedia on my talk page, so I'm not sure why he thinks that I haven't. It is Wikipedia policy not to include the full DoB when the subject is a living person and objects. I've explained that several times. The issue is the fraudulent use of personal information. Hence, the policy. It is also a basic courtesy, particularly as the full DoB adds nothing of significance. Honestly, it's a bit dismaying that a request to be shown such a basic courtesy is ignored. @LaurieAM1764: courtesy and decency are subjective, they probably mean something different to you then they do to me, around here neither of them carry any validity. You misinterpret the policy it does not say DOB should not be included. It recommends they are not unless they have reliable sources to prove the date. Hi there, I noticed that after you restored the date of birth on the Laurie Mylroie, a newly registered user named LaurieAM1764 (talk) kept reverting it back. After I saw that, I reverted those edits, but the user continues to revert. I confess I don't know the protocol at this point and was hoping you could help out. I attempted to contact the user on her talk but she keeps insisting that the information must be removed "per Wikipedia policy", which I found is to include birthdates. Please help, thanks. Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program

Hello, I am new to Wikipedia, so please forgive me if I make any formatting mistakes in addressing you. Here's the situation. The article listed in the heading is being held up because it is deemed to deal with an organization that is not "notable". I have, however, seen articles on Wikipedia of other artists' residencies that are less "notable" than the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program. We are the oldest and most established artists' residency in the Western United States. Established 1967. We are a non-profit organization. Your article "Artist in residence" [[2]] even mentions our program tangentially with the statement; "...Working periods differ enormously: from two weeks to six months or sometimes even a year." The Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program is the only visual arts residency that offers a full year residency. Notable for that at least. Being in a remote region of the American Southwest puts us at a huge disadvantage for media coverage. I recently edited the page to include a print article in New Mexico Magazine. Perhaps we are not as well know as residencies that cater to writers, who write articles about their residencies, but I assure you, among visual artists, we are notable. Please advise me. This is not puffery, self-promotion, or un-verifiable. For almost 50 years the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program has served the visual arts community. It wouldn't be difficult to assert that our program is a model for many much more recent residencies. See: [[3]]

One new model offered artists the opportunity to withdraw temporarily from a society which was considered bourgeois. (I find the end of this sentence totally unsubstantiated!!) (Just because the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program is located 200 miles away from a large city dose not mean it is anti-bourgeois nor utopian) The other new model, on the other hand, tried to contact the public and aimed for social engagement: guest studios in villages and cities served as a base for society change. Quite a number of new foundations elaborated on this new tendency during the seventies and the eighties." (Apparently the author approves of this model!)
Since back-handed references abound in Wikipedia regarding the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program, I see no reason to exclude this venerable residency from having a page in which to present the actual facts.

@Swalworthfleming: The reason the article was declined was because it did not prove notability to the point of inclusion for Wikipedia. In order to prove the organization is notable enough you must base the article on what others have written about it, but we have rules on what we accept as reliable sources. As the article currently relies only on primary sources(it's own website) we cannot accept the article yet. Please read through the blue links in this message and the ones in the article's decline message to help understand the issues. I will also leave a Welcome message on your talk page. Steve Oliver

Hi Mcmatter,

I checked on the Steve Oliver article and noticed that it has been edited significantly by you. In your edit, you accuse me of possibly having a conflict of interest with the subject and also that you removed "marketing fluff" inserted by "SMG Records". Please know you are incorrect in your assertion. For one, there is no such company as SMG Records (as far as I am aware), I am not affiliated at all with the subject, and I receive no compensation at all from Mr. Oliver or his record label (SOM Entertainment). I am simply a fan who thought that Mr. Oliver should be recognized on Wikipedia. Wikipedia contains articles on thousands of artists, many who are less accomplished than Mr. Oliver. I realize he's not a household name but he has in fact had multiple #1 hits on the Billboard magazine jazz charts. Billboard is one of the most respected music media companies in the world. In addition, the content you removed is purely biographical in nature, contains no "marketing fluff", and would be of interest to those who intentionally access the article. Before I created the article, I followed the Wikipedia guidelines and I also included references and citations wherever possible (as directed by you). This is my first article on Wikipedia and I'm sure it could use some help - but please help me fix it rather than removing the entire biography. Can you please reinstate the removed portion?

@RobertSMG: there is fact an SMG records company and the portion of texted removed was not properly sourced and full of violations of the external link policy. In order for it to be reinserted it will need to be sourced to reliable sources not facebook, allmusic database etc., they need to be from magazines, newspapers media outlets. Gillian Guy is CEO of a notable company, which is almost certainly a credible claim of significance - see WP:A7M. Additionally, this page was already tagged for A7 and declined, so a more appropriate process would be WP:AFD. Regarding Witness Service, as there's some secondary sources covering Witness Service, I don't think it's appropriate to tag for speedy deletion. Articles for Deletion would be a better process. Please take a moment to look at the suggested tasks for patrollers, criteria for speedy deletion, and particularly, the section covering non-criteria. Such pages are best tagged with proposed deletion or proposed deletion for biographies of living persons, or sent to the appropriate deletion discussion. Thanks! @Appable: this is why they suggest you don't template the regulars your template above is condescending and incorrect. Both pages are in fact meet the criterias for deletion and as I have been a user for many years, I shouldn't be guided to newbie posts. To write a message that you disagree with my reasons is fine and I would have no issues with the removal of the CSD tags as that is the process but didn't need all the other crap. Regardless of how long you're a user, I don't believe either page should have gotten a CSD for A7. Both had a credible claim of significance. Even regulars make mistakes so I entirely disagree with the essay you quoted, particularly considering that general notices like the above assume good faith and are, in my view, not at all condescending. I've gotten notices like these before and never really minded them, just keeping it in mind for the future. I think general notices My view on A7 is that any CEO of a notable company, like Gillian Guy, should not be tagged for A7. Furthermore, child companies to a notable company like Citizens Advice should not be tagged for A7. Sure, they might not be notable themselves and better placed in the article (for both articles that would be Citizens Advice), but A7 specifically only relates to articles with no credible claim of significance. As more pages get incorrectly tagged for speedy deletion, I'm very concerned that A7 will gradually move to a notability criterion, and it's never right to make such a general concept like notability a criterion for speedy deletion. Spam Link on article Creepypasta

Hey Mcmatter,

I'm writing to you concerning this edit to the article Creepypasta, as I'm slightly confused about how the link you removed is spam. While it is true that the website in question doesn't support HTTPS, despite the link being to the website over SSL, if you access it over standard HTTP, I can't see how it's spam.

As a disclaimer: I am an admin at the website removed, which is why I am avoiding re-adding the link myself. I am trying to look at this without bias, and I can't really see how the website removed is spam, especially given its relevance to the article in question.

May I ask, what was your reasoning for the removal of the link?

@Bonomont: the article in the state it was in was nothing more then a link farm with its only purpose to promote the networks listed which is a Spam list. In order to be included in a list the company must have some coverage outside of their own website to prove even a slight chance of notability as per WP:LISTCOMPANY, which still requires at least one 3rd party reliable source to be used as a reference, not an external link. Thanks. Are you aware that wireless community networks are not companies? They are nonprofit cooperatives. They try to improve the life of its participants. I feel that a radical "let's delete everything" approach might be warranted when fighting against something where lots of money is involved, like with spam, because we know that money makes spammers unrelenting and annoying. But in this case of community networks, we are faced with well meaning people, who are trying to bring a sense of discovery and connectedness to its communities. I feel that "let's delete everything" doesn't improve things. A more considered approach would be advantageous. After all, we don't want to alienate people for doing something good, right? @Bonomont: A non-profit cooperative is still a company which means they still full under that umbrella. It does not matter what the goals of the company are, they still must meet the requirements for inclusion, period. Wikipedia is not a directory, the requirements for inclusion in a list are much lower then a full scale article. There is nothing radical about my approach I am simply maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia, there was an advert warning on that page for several years which no one had done anything about except to add more external links, which the only purpose would be to promote their network which is SPAM, so I made a bold edit to make the article align with the policies and goals of building an encyclopedia. I am not saying some of them cannot be added back in, I am saying they should include a 3rd party reliable source to prove they have some sort of recognition outside of their own website and that their website link should not be included. 20:06, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

@Jukebx: As I have said in the comments on the draft the TEDx event source is not considered reliable because TEDx events are events set-up by the individuals to host their own TED Talk like event. We need to see magazines, newspapers, television or books which are not connected to the subject speak about the subject. Press releases also do not count, as they are written by the company or subject themselves and do not anything to prove notability. McMatter (talk)/(contrib) 02:53, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

@Alekborodina: I appreciate your frustration and can see how it seems everyone is out to get you, but this is not the case. There are standards and policies in place on Wikipedia which articles must meet to be notable enough to be included. If something meets the notability requirements it must be proven through the use of reliable sources, reliable sources are sources which have editorial oversight and fact checking processes, this means any gossip, tabloid or most blogs are not considered reliable. As a future endeavor I would suggest using the WP:AFC process to create new articles, through this process you can work on it with less threat of deletion and when you feel it meets the requirements set out in Wikipedia policies you can ask for a review of your article by an experienced editor which will provide feedback and hopefully some guidance. I do hope you decide to continue to help as I see you are blocked as I write this please feel free to reply on your talkpage and to let me now you have replied start the conversation with {{reply|Mcmatter}} McMatter (talk)/(contrib) 23:39, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

Reply to Conflict of Interest

Mcmatter thank you for your message regarding the edits made on Brenda Novak's page. I personally made those changes as I'm her personal assistant and the information needed to be updated. Someone else had created the page for her and we weren't able to log into the original page. I created a new user account and was able to make the changes. If there is a way to combine the two user accounts to where we can edit without causing this conflict that would be great.

It's important that we are able to keep this information up to date and any assistance you can provide on how we may do this and stay within the guidelines would be greatly appreciated. @Riganze: You need to provide proof on why your company is notable in order to do that you need to prove to me it meets the requirements of WP:CORPDEPTH through use of several independent reliable sources. Please remember Wikipedia is not an avenue for advertising we are about recording the history of notable things, notable here means it has been noticed and written about by the sources mentioned above, if they haven't taken notice then your company may not be notable enough for inclusion at this point, if they have then tell us in your own words what they have said about your company, without any PR puffery terms, just the facts. According to the line and reason given for the decline of my article, "This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability" I think you should do a google check up of the subject in person and check for notabilities yourself. I have edited and re-submitted more than 7 times this same article. If there are no notable reasons for the subject why should the article be written in the first place?

What would you have me do again to have the page accepted or is this how new writers are treated on Wikipedia? Please google up "Soni Irabor" and see for yourself why you should think the article should be declined severally without given a genuine reason for that. Thanks

@Dolapo Julius: There have been several helpful links which have been provided in each of the decline messages. Please be aware anything in blue is a link to help expand on that piece of information. I do not doubt Soni Irabor may be notable, but the burden of proof is on you to provide reliable unconnected sources, to meet the notability threshold we need to see that several of these sources that have taken it upon themselves to write about him. So far in the article all sources provided are either social media, a bio page from the company he works for, a business directory and a press release, none of which are good enough to demonstrate notability. @Atlantic306:, normally this is something which is included in a promotional article such as this, as charting is a big deal for most musicians.
