Human rights in Israel[edit]

Hello,

Your addition there (about the "no-sex" contract) was in the wrong place (was in "ethinic minorities", should have been in "migrant workers").

But that's not the problem. It's just not very important. It's one incident (that may have been legal - if the signed willingly, to get a job), that doesn't reflect on the situation. Don't get me wrong - the migrant workers' conditions are usually quite bad, but it doesn't have anything to do with this. It's because of very low pay, not getting paid at all, some incidents of physical punishment, bad/dangerous working conditions, unlivable "living quarters", employers taking away workers passports, and others. I was just looking at the end of the Human Rights issue, and there doesn't seem to be a final agreement between parties. The NPOV tag is still up, so I was wondering if you were just taking a break from that article for a while. As it stands, it still appears to leave out a large portion of the kind of info you wanted. Let me know if you would like to try for a compromize with Humus Sapiens on this again and I can try to help. If not, please let me know as well. Thanks! Arbitration[edit]

Hi, I submitted a statement for review by the arbitrators. I hope you can get this issue resolved quickly whatever happens. Also, I do not know a lot about arbitration so I may be off in saying this, but I would suggest that you ask for User:Jayjg to recuse himself. I appreciated your statement there, about User:Jayjg he didn't intervene in the arbitration thing and anyway I don't want to wage a war against single individuals on this issue because I understand the sort-of-noble reasons why many guys are opposing me; I just think that their ideological battle is ill-targeted because not all criticism on Israel is based on anti-Semitism. I would like to see the Jews and the Arabs living in peace in the Middle East but this cannot be done through supporting Israel's imperialist policy in the region. Many supporters of Israel are fuelled by a sincere intention to defend the rights of the Jews and I can't blame them for their inner motivation. The problem is that sometimes such a motivation leads them to accept things like this, which wouldn't resolve the problem in a thousand years. Denying what the State of Israel truly is (not a Fascist dictatorship, simply an imperialist democracy as the USA or France or Britain or my own country), just plays in the hands of the warmongers (on both sides). --MauroVan 11:27, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I am not familiar enough with Israel to really make comments like those above, but I am in complete agreement that not all criticism is based on anti-semitism. One thing I disagree with you on though is when you say suporters of Israel intend to "defend the rights of Jews." In my mind, there is a distinct difference between "defending the rights of Jews," and removing everything critical of Israel/Israeli policy (i.e. whitewashing). It disappoints me to no end that wikipedia can allow this pattern of behavior to take place.

I am involved in another dabate where I started out trying to point out the difference between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism, but I'm afraid I was not well received by apparently avid suporters of Israel (people like Humus Sapiens). I brought up something you may find interesting. It can be found in the article Anti-Zionism: "...many Jews see attacks on the existence of Israel as inherently anti-Semitic...associating anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism is [allegedly] intended to stifle debate, deflect attention from valid criticisms, and taint anyone opposed to Israeli actions and policies." I hope I am not out of line to say this, but that appears to be exactly what is going on in the section you are trying to "NPOVify." Markovich292 20:52, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not all supporters of Israel intend to defend the Jews. Some are just rabid anti-Arabs etc. But I'd assume good faith about many Israel's watchdogs being active here on WP.

Of course I agree that what's always happening in the Israel page is absolutely not a proper way of defending the Jews.

There's also a clear difference between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism. I don't agree with Zionism, for example, which I regard as a form of Israeli or Jewish Chauvinism. Moreover, Zionism often implies to consider the Diaspora Jews as Jews and not as members of their "guest" country: this is exactly what the anti-Semites think! They regard the Jews outside Israel/Palestine as an alien enclave. On the contrary, if I have a Jew as a neighour, he's not a foreigner to my eyes (apart from the fact that also true foreigners have nothing special to my eyes).

However, be careful about mixing together all forms of anti-Zionism, too. A sentence like "Israel should be destroyed" is likely to be a form of anti-Semitism disguised as anti-Zionism: what's the alternative for the Israeli people? As an Israeli Jewish (and, BTW, anti-Zionist) friend explained once, "As to the ones who say that the Jews should 'go home', I'd like to ask them: my father and my father's own father were born in Haifa, where's the home I should go to?". --MauroVan 11:48, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ferruccio Ghinaglia[edit]

The Ferruccio Ghinaglia article I put up a couple of months ago is actually a really basic translation because of the fact that I had to use a mechanical translator (I'm not at all fluent in italian). I'd really appreciate it if you could add to the article in any way possible.

Fixing the IMT article[edit]

Hey man , care helping to fix the IMT article? I feel it doesn't have much about the IMT positions, the IMT activity etc. I have added some Parts about Pakistan and Venezuela but I feel there's more to be done.

SOPA typo[edit]

Hi MauroVan! I undid one of your edits, which changed users to users. The correct form is actually users. The sentence is:

...required to monitor users' web traffic

The word users' tells us whose web traffic is being addressed. It's a possessive word. It's also a plural word, so the apostrophe goes after the s.
