Spelling[edit]

Here's a spelling guideline, and there's more links within the article itself. I usually figure it's not worth reverting for spelling differences myself.

Wikipedia:Manual of Style (spelling)

WLU 19:37, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great, thanks. Can I assume that either spelling is valid in the article, then? matt.smart talk/contribs 19:39, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I would assume either is OK, but you'd have to read the policy and MOS. From what I remember, you only really become a stickler for certain variations when it's articles on somewhere. F'rinstance, if I, as a Canadian, were talking about our Prime Minister, I would say the colour of his eyes was blue, but if I were speaking of George W. Bush, the color of his suit would be blue. WLU 20:05, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I see. This could get rather complicated; I tend to steer clear of reverting on grounds of American/English spelling myself anyway! Thanks :)matt.smart talk/contribs 10:46, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

West Midlands WikiProject improvement drive[edit]

I wouldn't do this normally but the improvement drive nominations page has gone quiet all of a sudden. So, could you please add a nomination or support/object the current nomination on there. Thanks and happy editting! - Erebus555 21:44, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Minority Report[edit]

I undid your edit to Minority Report, I'm trying to make it a GA and still have to trim the plot section by 80-90 words so it isn't a copyvio. Plot sections longer than 900 words are considered a copyvio. It was 1,800+ words and it's been very hard to trim it down, if you can think of a better way to word it without increasing the length, go ahead. Quadzilla99 14:33, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh ok, I didn't look at the length to be honest. I'll have a look at rewording it when I've got a few minutes. Cheers. matt.smart talk/contribs 15:34, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vickers[edit]

Could you check that the information about his current academic role--which I revised a/c his web page -- is correct. There has been a good deal of what looks like student vandalism.DGG 04:16, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies for the delayed reply - been on holiday this week. The edits you made (and the current version) look fine to me. It looks like you're right in what you suggest - most of the vandalisms (and correct edits) to this page are from the IP range of the School of Computer Science at Birmingham. Cheers for your help! matt.smart talk/contribs 15:19, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Favour[edit]

Hi Matt, could I ask you a favour? My name's Andrew Turvey and I'm the Secretary of Wikimedia UK. We're the newly formed chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation - the charity that owns and runs Wikipedia and other projects - covering the United Kingdom and we're looking to organise our first AGM.

We have decided that the best place to hold it would be Birmingham, as it is central, and would like to follow up Birmingham University. I notice that you are down as being at Birmingham University and wondered if you would be able to help us with this.

The main thing we need at the moment is a contact at a sympathetic BUGS student society who would be prepared to book a room at the university for us, which would allow up to 40 people to come along. Is this something you could help us with?

Anything you could do would be gratefully received - please contact me on my talk page or via email. Thanks AndrewRT(Talk) 23:38, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Matt.smart. You are registered with WikiProject West Midlands and we are cleaning our list of members. As you have not contributed to any page for over a year we have removed you as inactive. If you still want to participate in the project, just go back and move yourself into the active list. Thank you. Gavbadger (talk) 17:49, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Further, there are more than 20 proposals related to Watchlists in general that you may be interested in reviewing. (and over 260 proposals in all, across many aspects of wikis)

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Note: You received this message because you have transcluded {{User wikipedia/RC Patrol}} (user box) on your user page. Since this message is "one-time-only" there is no opt out for future mailings.
