Hi have just seen your great contributions in the article of tanoli but you have placed Afghan Pashtun which depicts as if you are talking about pashtun tribe of Afghanistan, but as most tanolis live in Pakistan it would be better to use just Pashtun as now a days everywhere Afghan seems to be a term thrown towards Afghan citizens that is Farsiwans and Pashtun refugees from Afghanistan. Its great and really appreciate your hardword, me a jadoon so it would be better if you use Pashtun word as 100 percent people will understand what you mean by that.. Hello, I am also a Tanoli originally family from Sherwan area but mostly settled in Mansehra now. I am a PhD and a research scholar and work abroad, visit home sometimes, and have been editing Wikipedia from time to time for a while now. You seem to have added a source, or mentioned a source, i.e. a book 'Al-Afghan Tanoli' by one Ghulam Nabi Khan, published by some Gul Publishers in Mansehra, in 2001, which is supposed to carry evidence of our (i.e. Tanoli) descent or link to Bani Israil, also some old geneaologies and trees etc showing this same descent? However, after looking in Mansehra city for quite some time, I (a) havent been able to find this book anywhere in any shops or stalls (b) no one seems to know about any Gul Publishers where they are located and if they have any such title under print or for sale, and (c) no one seems to know of any author or historical expert/scholar anywhere in Hazara called Ghulam Nabi Khan. could you please guide me and if possible tell me where and how to get a copy of this book? Also, if you could share the trees/pedigrees linking Tanolis to Bani Israel, here on the Tanoli talk page? Hello, thanks for your response. It may be that this might be one of some books (as you state) written 'exclusively about Tanolis' but that still doesnt answer my basic questions as to(a)what recognised credentials/expertise did the author have (or has) to write any such history and (b) who published the book? From what you say i.e. that book is out of stock, it shows that its probably a self-published volume of little or no credibility, by an amateur or self-proclaimed 'historian' and even the publisher is not a recognised one, quite unknown. Sadly, this puts the credibility of this volume as a ref source into doubt. Also, it seems that the author is not a neutral party, not a third party objective commentator on the Tanolis, probably being one himself and with a particular slant or bias in his views. Hence, this volume also presents an issue/matter of Conflict of Interest-- such sources cannot be cited as sources/refs on Wikipedia. The same would be the case with any similar book or books or other such material/s, unless published by a duly recognised authority/expert of some standing, by a publisher of known standing. For example (just to help clarify matters) if some scholar/writer of the stature like the late Prof Dr Ahmad Hasan Dani were to write a book about the Tanolis, and if a standard publisher such as Oxford University Press (known academic publishers) were to publish this research, then that would be acceptable. I hope you understand this point ore example clearly please? This 'Ghulam Nabi' chap doesnt seem to me to be at all a known or established scholar or author of such standing or repute. Once again, I must express my sincere reservations about this book as a source and I would seriously ask that any references or citations from it, or from similar works of doubtful provenance, be removed and/or not added as citations/refs to any articles. If you still face any problems or difficulties in understanding these points I would strongly recommend that you kindly consult the Wikipedia Help Menu and the sections on Reliable Sources and Conflict of Interest issues. By the way, just for your knowledge and edification, below is a small list of some acceptable/recognised academic and scholarly publishers in Pakistan, which meet Wikipedia standards:

Official publishers include : Punjab U Press, Karachi U Press, QAU Press, BZU Press and some others, such as the NIHCR Press, Pakistan Army Press, Punjab Government Press, NWFP/KPK Government Press and other provincial governmental presses, Cabinet Division (Fed Govt) Printing Press, National Archives Publications etc

Private/commercial include: Oxford UP, Cambridge UP, Longmans (UK), Heinemann, Leo Books Pakistan Ltd, Alhamra Publishers Pak, Ferozsons Lahore, Vanguard Books and a few others.

Removal of further false of misrepresented material[edit]

Hello, regarding my earlier note about Tanoli, am sorry but you havent satisfied me regarding the provenance of many of your citations/references ; and now it seems that many of the other citations that you also cited (for example from Dorn, Hazara Gazetteer etc) dont also seem to be quite correct, indeed most of them are either false or misrepresentative, or not exactly accurate, so I have perforce, had to also remove these. I have left very detailed notes on the Talk Page of that article so you can also consult these please. I have also removed a couple of photographs of non notable figures who only seem to be connected to you personaly perhaps, but arent up to Wikipedia notability standards? I know its not always easy to resist some element of puffery and self-projection but please, we do assume good faith here and trust that you will please refrain from such activity and also be very very careful in what refs/citations you make; people trust this site to give them solid facts not stories and fiction and it might be wise to consult the editing help menu before turning to any sources. Or maybe its better simply not to add any unsourced material at all, thanks. I hope you will please take this sincere advice to heart and also not take it in a negative and narrow light. Dear User Mastankhel, hello--with reference to the above note and further notes and talk on Tanoli etc, you once again seem to have added unreliable material and tried to misrepresent facts on the basis of spurious and wrong claims. I am yet still assuming good faith and trying to understand what is motivating you to do this please? I would strongly urge you not to do this, and please not do indulge in a needless edit war. That serves no purpose. I will once again reiterate here that NOWHERE in his original text does Khwaja Niamatullah Harawi talk about any of the sons/issues you keep mentioning; and in his incomplete translation of 1836, Bernard Dorn does not have any mention of any such thing either. So Dont please keep citing non existent texts and false page numbers etc, it is not ethical to so. Unsourced and unreliable material should be removed and not re added. Its not a matter of fake prestige and ego, but a matter of editorial integrity and maintenance of reliable standards. With ref to you note on the Talk Page of Tanoli, please I will onec again repeat that (a) I have read both Khwaja Niamatullah Harawi's original 'Makhzan i Afghan', in its 1799 reprint/edition from Calcutta, based on the Rampur text, as well as Dorn's 1836 incomplete translation and (b) I fully understand and comprehend both texts/versions and (c) neither mentions any of the fictitious and non-existent names that you keep adding and re adding, ad infinitum. And all the citations, page numbers etc that you cite in this regard are incorrect and/or (sorry to say this) fake. Maybe, you should realise that you are making some sort of mistake or are badly misinformed? Making up false information to suit some unreal and obsessive point of view is no service to anyone, least of all to serious editorial standards here on Wikipedia, it is instead a disservice to all. This is not a forum for one's egotism or tribal and/or familial aggrandisement or promotion and so on, it's an ongoing exercise to create and proper and serious encyclopedia based on reliable sources. Your interest[edit]

Hello, regarding your interest in later British colonial period history of Tanawal and Tanolis etc-- when I did my PhD from UK, I had 2 supervisors, one based in UK and 1 in Pakistan, both of whom jointly supervised my researchwork. My Pakistani PhD advisor/supervisor appointed by the Cambridge University, UK, was Prof Dr Omer Saleem Khan sahib. He is I think at this time the No 1 world authority on Hazara area and Northern Punjab circa 1840s to 1940s, also knows a lot about NWFP/KP and Afghan history. He has written books, papers etc also, and I am sure he has regular access to many records etc, of various UK archives, libraries and collections etc. Prof Khan sahib is also from Hazara area, originally from Haripur distt but now living mostly in Abbottabad town with family. He is no longer teaching full time but takes occasional part time duties of academia. I was thinking, since you expressed your interest, on Tanoli talk page, maybe you would like to be in contact with Prof sahib? I am usually busy nowadays and might go for a short term for PD research/fellowship abroad, again, so I can introduce you to Prof sahib if you are ineterested. I dont think he has much interest in Wikipedia etc, he is a proper contributor to Encyclopedias like 'Britannica' etc; but at least he can be of quite some use, I think in giving you help and guidance, if so needed. You might have more knowledge of Prof sahib in Hazara, if you visit home regularly, by his pen-name Omer Tareen (at times also written Omar Tarin, Omer Tarin) ? He belongs to famous Tareen/Tarin family. I just want to point out to you that you probably mistakenly and inadvertently added some information about some relatives of yours, to a pare or article about Gandhian (village) that you edited. I think you did probably act in a good faith manner. Yet, I believe that this page or article is not the right place or forum to promote your own self, or family or relatives, no matter even if they belonged to that place. It is an article/page about a VILLAGE not a family or person/s. So, at most, you could add a small or brief side line or sentence below, in a separate head, that so and so also lived here, and also then give some supporting references of a reliable nature or source. Indeed, I would strongly suggest if your relative or elder etc you want to talk about is truly notable, then make a separate Wikipedia page or article about this person, again citing reliable sources.
