Main Page

Surprise! History of Puerto Rico has been selected for presentation on the Main Page for Monday, June 18, 2007 (tomorrow!). My congratulations to all editors who helped bring this important Puerto Rican topic to FA, especially to Joelito. But don't celebrate yet. There's two important things we should do:

  1. Review the article. Since it became FA, it has received extensive edits from users, and therefore may need copy-editing and MOS-adjustments for presentation. Some users related to the Main Page-selection process have already made many edits, and we should continue their good work to make sure the article is pristine.
  2. WATCH IT!! Given the Main Page's exposure (millions view it every day), FA articles which are presented there get viewed by many people, including vandals. Please watch the page carefully, reverting vandalism as you go. I've seen Main Page articles get overwhelmed with vandalism, and since many more people keep going to it on the Main Page, we don't want them to see a vandalized article. This is a 24 hour task (as long as its presented), and requires the collaboration of the entire Puerto Rico WikiProject.

Well, gente, take pride that on June 18, Puerto Rico's history will be presented on the grandest of pages in Wikipedia. Peace! - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 10:13, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Awilda Carbia & Marta Romero were Deleted

Well, Tony, I've been cleaning, editing these two articles, and I've seen some contibutions from others, and I was about to edit again as you advised me, but suddenly they deleted it. I tried to make a new entry of Awilda Carbia, but I couldn't, because while I was writing, the page was deleted. I came back and I found a blank page. I followed the links, and this is what I found:

19:06, 20 June 2007 Spike Wilbury (Talk | contribs) deleted "Talk:Awilda Carbia" (content was: '

This article is within the scope of WikiProject Biography. For more information, visit the project page. Biography Portal

' (and the only contributor was 'SkierRMH')) 08:06, 11 June 2007 Lectonar (Talk | contribs) deleted "Talk:Awilda Carbia" (no article)---

I need your help here. What can I do to restore them with the new editings I've made for them? I hope I can do that. I'm sad, and a little bit discouraged, but not beaten. Thank you, Tony. Best regards:--Entre-Nos 23:05, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Entre-Nos" Category: Unassessed biography articles --Entre-Nos 23:13, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

On the other hand, I would love you to check Lou Briel's page again, because the user: Thief12, made a great contribution to it. I think he did an excellent job, that it would have taken me a longer time to do. Thief12 formatted the article by the Wikipedia rules. When I was about to edit, I saw his wonderful job, and I appreciate it very much. I already told him in the deletion talk page. He also voted Keep. ""Una de cal y otra de arena"". Thanks again, Tony.--Entre-Nos 00:07, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi again Tony. I just finished a few minutes ago, a new version of Marta Romero's biography, following Wikipedia's format. Instead of Awilda, I started with Marta. I would love to have your feedback. Thanks, Tony. Best regards:--Entre-Nos 07:59, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Tony,

Not sure if you remember me but we used to correspond some a few months back and I remember you were pretty knowledgeable in the ways of wiki. Above are two articles I found while doing disambiguation link repair for Victorian (not linking it otherwise your page would be listed in the links). The articles are identical except for the spelling (which seems arbitrary to me -- American English vs. British England).

Someone has started a discussion as to whether the articles should be merged, although it seems to me that someone should just do it themselves or one article should be deleted. However, since it's been so long since I contributed regularly I'm unsure of the protocol in this situation. I'm hoping you know, or know the right person to contact.

Please let me know something either way. Thank you. -FateSmiled&DestinyLaughed 17:37, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Questions on organization, terminology, and culture

Tony, I've a number of questions for you. Are you here? — ERcheck (talk) 01:46, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Tony. Got your e-mail. I've left you a rather wordy response. — ERcheck (talk) 03:01, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Sonia Noemi

Take the article and work it into the Wiki format that I showed you and you will make it into a much better article. Do it and make me proud. Tony the Marine 07:45, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

  • I just finished it, Tony. I hope I can make you proud again. Thank you for your help one more time. Best regards--Entre-Nos 09:10, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Article for review

Tony, I noticed a recent addition to the List -- Manuel Rodriguez Orellana -- which noticed you reverted. Please take a look at the article. Looks like it needs general Wiki cleanup.

BTW, intro done, for now. — ERcheck (talk) 00:48, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

San Juan

Hey Tony, San Juan is currently a FAC, I have attended the points presented there exept for a copy edit cause that's my weak point, if you have some time available can you please do this part for me? - 17:43, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks man, I added a reference for it on San Juan, Puerto Rico#Tourism, I wasn't sure if it was prudent to add it on the lead cause in the past I have seen people making negative comments about references in the lead if they are located somewhere else in the article, do you think its needed on both locations? -
You did a good job, I added what you suggested and although it took some time to code it I just finished adding a table about the city's mayors. There are three of them that don't have political party because the reference didn't list it but I will see if it is out there in the web, cheers. - 21:55, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Wow, thanks man! I do this work out of a patriotic sentiment and follow the proud felling that doing something to raise our image as Puerto Ricans gives me, its always good knowing I'm doing a good job Gracias mi hermano. - 22:31, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

DYK

Updated DYK query On 24 June, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Oscar F. Perdomo, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Proposed guideline at Wikipedia:Overlistification

Wikipedia:Overlistification is a proposed guideline that intersects with my proposed guideline at Wikipedia:Proposed guideline for lists of people by ethnicity, religion, and other cultural categorizations. There are some good things in Wikipedia:Overlistification and some things that would need to be changed. In particular, the section "Irrelevant Intersections by Race, Gender, Beliefs, Sexuality, Ethnicity, and Religion Lists" appears similar to what I've proposed. Some tweaking of language would be needed, but the similarities are there.

Unfortunately, there is an appearance that Wikipedia:Overlistification is being created to bolster one side of the debate around the deletion of certain types of lists. I'm sure the same could be said for my proposed guideline. As people may know, the guidelines and policies which succeed at Wikipedia tend to be the ones which reach consensus from people on both sides of a debate. Perhaps we should merge info from Wikipedia:Proposed guideline for lists of people by ethnicity, religion, and other cultural categorizations with Wikipedia:Overlistification, bring in info from the current list guidelines, and see if we all can't reach a general consensus on this issue. Any thoughts on this? Is so, joing the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Overlistification#Problems_with_proposed_guidelines.2C_possible_ways_to_achieve_consensus. Best,--Alabamaboy 18:11, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Tony, Thank you for the barnstar. In reading and editing the articles you've created and been contributing to, I've learned a lot. That is one of my favorite things about Wikipedia - it offers an opportunity to not only add for others to read, but to increase one's own knowledge.

BTW, I've made revisions. Please look at subject titles before reading - some nuances there.

Wiki En Wiki

Tony we have a problem this user User:Wiki En Wiki he is creating pages based on the spanish pronuntuation of things and all of the pages he is creating already exist by other names (see his contributions here[1]), now I came to you because his habit of adding spam links to pro independence sites is the same that indef blocked spammer User:Political Guru did on his days, wich makes me believe he might be a sockpuppet. I warned him once already and he ignored me completely, perhaps a wake up call by an admin might make him stop this behaviour. - 01:58, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

No worries just doing my part to keep the pages spam free :) - 04:13, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

RE: Siege of Malakand

Yes I have noticed what with FAs, Zleiten in the Mozambican War of Independence FAC was kind enough to help me out, but yes it does get annoying when you get comments like "line 25 you have written its not it's" well.... fix it then?

Another annoying thing is that people don't answer article talk page comments! But I guess we only notice things when they are broken, and should be grateful that so many things on wikipedia work! :) SGGH speak! 10:05, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Tony, I've been lucky so far as most of my opposes have changed to supports when I have addressed their issues. FAC is a difficult thing, there are a lot of opposes for minor things because the peer review system just doesn't work, because only 1 or 2 people maximum ever comment on mine! Thus the FAC is one of the few ways to get outside opinion on your article! That is one of my gripes that I forgot to mention above. SGGH speak! 20:39, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Another example of painstaking effort to find typos and copy them to the FAC page rather than just fixing them has occured, I do love the collective community effort we have around here sometimes (rolls eyes) SGGH speak! 08:56, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Argh! Fix the typo yourself instead of spending more effort to report it on the FAC, wikipedia is a collective project :( SGGH speak! 19:45, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Tis true, tis true. SGGH speak! 13:08, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Well thats it I'm not trying to write another FA for a long time. When an editor comes along to your FAC and lets you know there is an "a" missing in the article and could you please fix this as soon as possible, you find it the final straw. The entire peer review, GA nomination and FAC system is screwed. I will push this current FAC through and then wash my hands of the thing. SGGH speak! 16:20, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Ideas for USMC Portal?

Tony, 4th of July is coming up. Have any ideas for the Portal update? I've got a short list, but I welcome input. — ERcheck (talk) 00:49, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Sock

Tony before I go I though that you should knowe that User:Wiki En Wiki created a block evading sockpuppet by the name of User:WikiWiki En wich is making the same kind of edit. - 20:53, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Hey, it was lucky you were able to catch me while leaving a comment on Che Guevara's talk page, as I posted on my talk page I will have to take a Wikibreak for a week or so because I'm moving from Caguas to Orlando, but I expect to be back in a week or so, I am also taking a break on the Pro Wrestling Wikia where I also own an account. - 21:26, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: Portal idea - Early Marines

Tony,

I don't think we have much on early Marines. The topic is too narrow for a Portal, but would make a good article/Featured Topic.

After you complete the current project, perhaps we can collaborate on a featured topic centered around a USMC topic.

ERcheck (talk) 23:08, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

It would be nice to expand Continental Marines. There is some information about the initial recruiting that is in the Tun Tavern article that is not in the CM article. It would be nice to have more info, perhaps in time for November 10. — ERcheck (talk) 01:27, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Any nominations for July? (Tomorrow). — ERcheck (talk) 11:18, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

I removed the PUI tag from the image. Yes, under fair use (Wikipedia:Non-free content it might work. Not free use btw, that's something totally different and of course not, as you have seen, public domain. If you have any more images like this tagged with Public Domain, please change them. Use of an copyrighted not under a free license image under fair use is not a copyright violation. Tagging it with a Public Domain tag on the other hand is a copyright violation. Garion96 (talk) 23:37, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Weird...

Please check this out. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 13:39, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

more possible copyvios/mistagged images - please explain

Hi Tony, can you explain the copyright status of these images? I'll add to this list as I find new ones. Thanks! Calliopejen1 02:18, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Image:Claridad article pg1.jpg, Image:Claridad article pg2.jpg, and Image:Claridad article pg3.jpg - The byline says these were written by David E. Miro Feliciano and the copyright is probably owned by the newspaper. I don't think you have any authority to release these under a free license. If they are copyrighted, they must be deleted because it is wikipedia policy not to use non-free content on userpages (see WP:NON-FREE). Perhaps there is an online version of this article that you can link to instead?
    • That is a copy made by myself of the protion of the newspaper that talks about my numerous contributions in Wikipedia. Tony the Marine 02:40, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
      • Even if you made the copy yourself, or if the article is about you, the copyright is still owned by the newspaper. I understnad that it would be nice to include this on your userpage, but you cannot since it is copyrighted and therefore violates wikipedia policy. I see that you have a link to this on your userpage. What you can do instead is describe the article and maybe include a quote where it talks about you, then link to the article so readers can look at it on the original site. Calliopejen1 02:46, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Image:Monumento de la Recordacion.JPG - You tagged this as a work of the federal government, but it comes from a Puerto Rico government website, not a federal government website. The website is copyrighted - see the bottom of http://www.dtop.gov.pr/. On the image description page, you note that the monument was built using federal government money but that is irrelevant. I don't believe that works of the governemtn of PR are public domain, but I haven't done any research on it. Do you have any evidence that the PR govt releases their work into the public domain? If not, this is not a free image.
    • Thanks for taking care of that. By the way, what article did that appear in? It's often possible to find photos of monuments on flickr, so I was going to check if I could find a free image to replace it. Calliopejen1 03:07, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Image:CarolinaFlag.jpg and many more flag images - Did you draw these flags from scratch? If not, they probably are still in the public domain but they need to be tagged differently.
    • Thanks for clarifying. Calliopejen1 03:07, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Image:Carnival mask.gif and Image:Santeria artifacts.gif come from http://americanhistory.si.edu/vidal/history.htm, which says that the images are copyrighted. Calliopejen1 03:09, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Image:SANTISIMATRINIDAD.gif, Image:LaCasaFrancesa.gif and Image:Fabrica Polo Norte.gif are marked as being older than 1923, but they are in color and look modern, and I can't find where on the website their age is specified. Do you have another reason to think this is public domain? Calliopejen1 03:16, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Image:Portofoto.gif - the author gave permission for it to be in wikipedia, but not for it to be public domain. Can you get a better permission? Otherwise it's not sufficient for inclusion. Calliopejen1 03:18, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
    • Image:Bomba MSU web.jpg - similar issue here-- not clear what the author gave permission for. Please confirm with the author that they are releasing it for everyone to use, not just wikipedia, and update the image description. Calliopejen1 03:22, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Image:Roberto Clemente Stamp.jpg - another user has already changed the tag so it's not public domain, but now it's an orphaned non-free image. Can you nominate this for deletion since it's non-free and no longer used in any articles? Calliopejen1 03:26, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Image:Jesus Colon.jpg - you tagged this as being older than 1923, but based on the subject's age that's pretty much impossible. You say you took it from a public domain website, but the link is now dead. It is pretty rare for university websites to be in the public domain. Do you remember why you said it was a public domain website? This looks like a non-free image, but we probably could keep it and use it in at least the subject's bio if we add a fair use tag and write a fair use rationale. Calliopejen1 03:36, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

note re: sourcing images

Please do not abbreviate the URLs for your image sources, as you have done multiple times in images you have uploaded (e.g. Image:Esteves.jpg says the source is bellsouthpwp.net/.../Luis_Raul_Esteves.htm.) This makes it extremely hard to verify the copyright status of the image. Calliopejen1 02:20, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

The image of Emilio Esteves is a military image as stated by the tag and very old one at that. Is there any particular reason that you have decided to dedicate all of your energies towards me? Tony the Marine 02:40, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
If I were to guess I would say this is a public domain image also. However, wikipedia images should always be tagged so that any user can verify the copyright status of the image. It was just a reminder. I may later try to track down the full url. As to why I'm scrutinizing your images, this is what I always do when I notice that a user has uploaded several images with incorrect tags, because normally there may be more. I'm not trying to pick on you, I'm just trying to make sure that the images you've uploaded comply with wikipedia policies. Calliopejen1 02:48, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

by the way

Thanks for the smile. By the way, I don't want you to think that I'm hostile toward your contributions since I'm pointing out all these images that may need to be deleted. When I've been going through these images, I've seen how much you've added to wikipedia and it's pretty awesome. Please keep me posted of the pages these images are being deleted from so I can try to help find free images to replace them. Calliopejen1 03:28, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Just dropping by

Hi, Tony. We haven't talked for a while so I just wanted to say hello. I hope everything's going OK since that bit of confusion with the password crackers and all that, and that everything else is doing well. As always, let me know if you need anything. Cheers, Andre (talk) 04:58, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Sounds great. Keep me posted. Andre (talk) 01:49, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

About the list

Hi Tony! I've been very busy writing some articles, and I'm enjoying it a lot, thanks to your help. I'm very grateful for that. In relation to the list of notable Puerto Ricans, it's ok, I won't try to add names anymore, don't worry. It's just a matter of opinion, personal criteria, and interpretation, that's why we don't agree in some, but that's ok. Although you don't consider Awilda Carbia, Marta Romero, Lou Briel, Alba Nydia Diaz, Lucy Fabery, Puchi Balseiro, and Zeny & Zory as notables, I respect that because it's your opinion. I know you protect your list with your heart and I won't ever try to include more names in it. You're the master and owner, and I respect that. So, dear friend and great teacher, I'll keep up with my articles, and forget about the list. You deserve protecting your list as you wish. I'm proud to have you as a friend and a great advisor. If it wasn't for you, I'd be lost around here. Best regards----Entre-Nos 19:15, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Thank you for you kind words. I must remind you however, that I am not the "owner" nor "master" of the list. Everyone is encouraged to edit it, the only thing that is asked is that the established criteria is met when adding a name. Tony the Marine 03:14, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Article Assessment for WikiProject Puerto Rico

Hello, Marine 69-71! As you may know already, WikiProject Puerto Rico, in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, is trying to assess the quality of articles within our scope to help us focus our work on the articles who need it the most. Unfortunately, there is a backlog of more than 799 unassessed articles within our scope. I, in the name of the members of WikiProject Puerto Rico, ask you, if you have the time, to help your fellow members clean up the backlog by assessing unassessed articles and review articles already assessed to make sure they still meet the quality criteria. You can learn more about the WikiProject's article assessment program at Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico/Assessment.

I, personally, found assessing articles manually took too much time, so I looked around and found a script that makes assessing articles easier. If you would like the script's help, just copy the following code to your monobook.js.

 // [[User:Outriggr/metadatatest.js]]
 importScript('User:Outriggr/metadatatest.js');
 assessmentMyTemplateCode = ["{{PuertoRicoproj|class=|importance=}}"];

You can find the manual for the script at User talk:Outriggr/metadatatest.js. If you need help, please contact me. Thank you for your time. I hope you can find the time to help. This message has been automatically delivered to all WikiProject Puerto Rico participants using AWB. Happy editing! Yours sincerely, Eddie 17:10, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

How's the article doing?

Hi Tony. How's the article coming along? Major edits almost complete? — ERcheck (talk) 01:37, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

So, looks like copyedits, with the exception of one last are done. I'll take a look at the article you mentioned. — ERcheck (talk) 03:18, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

How many revisions until "final"?

OK. So, ignore revision 3 altogether. Revision 4 is it. Needs some review of "commentary" - my summary of responses. Two references are included. — ERcheck (talk) 14:59, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Were you able to read it? — ERcheck (talk) 00:10, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
OK, did you see the SGVTribune article? — ERcheck (talk) 03:26, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Joaquin

Thanks Tony. I took your advice and re-edited his bio. I put more information under Arlyn's page, so readers can click on her link if they are curious to find out more about his roots. I simply added in his bio that he is of Hungarian, Russian, Spanish, Irish and Jewish descent. Mimi C. 21:12, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks buddy, I didn't agree with his thinking and he was pretty hostile, so thanks for backing me up. I did apologise to him on his talk page so I hope he realises it was just frustration and heat of the moment stuff. At least lets hope it doesn't flare up now! I owe you yet again! SGGH speak! 21:41, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

It's done it! FA finally! Thanks for your help yet again. Owe you about 1,000 now! It's my 3rd FA, my 2nd favourite and the one done in the least number of edits (nearly half that of the next highest). SGGH speak! 23:29, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm back

Been a while how you doing Tony? I will be semi active for a while but I expect to make a few daily contributions, won't take the break tag from my talk page yet since I don't know when I'll be gone for a few days or a week but I will try to monitor the pages on my watchlist and do some fixes here and there but nothing of the sorts people are used to see me doing, since things are still messy here, to many boxes :( Please keep an eye on Luis Miguel somebody has been changing the lead to look like he is completely Mexican when the current lead in my opinion is more accurate since he was born in the island after all, well always good talking to you, see you around mi hermano. - 04:40, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Very different than when I was here last time but it has been a decade so that comes as no surprise, I'm dying to see how is Miami though, about Luis Miguel if the content dispute continues I will probably try to reason with the user and leave it as Puerto Rican-Mexican for the reason you listed, I don't want the Mexican users to think I have something aganist Mexicans, I'm just trying to be objective here but I have defended the Mexican nacionality when it applies like here, so no worries, although I have to admit that I laught inside when I think what he would think if he read his page here, since its going to be really hard to hide something published in the web most visited page. - 06:05, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Saludos, Tony. I'm having a bit of a dispute with this guy over Image:Roberto Clemente.jpg (which will be deleted soon). He claims it was a copyvio when it was obviously not. Marcos had provided a great fair use rationale and I included a link to where I got it, as requested in WP:NFC. Could you please tell me how the image was a copyvio? Please see Talk:Roberto_Clemente#Email_to_try_an_get_an_image, User talk:Cerejota, and User_talk:Boricuaeddie#Image:Roberto_Clemente.jpg, when you have the time. Idea

Hey Tony, after encountering several of these Puerto Rican or Not? threads on talk pages of people that were born in the island but had a different ethnicity, I decided to write a short essay explaing the reason behind why they are (see here). Most of it was taken from your explanation in Joaquin Phoenix's talk page because that has to be one of the most brilliant explanation I have seen lately, short but detailed. My idea is to add a link to the essay in any page that might cause any controversy, what do you think of this idea? - 05:53, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion, I will do some spell checking and add the links tommorow, I am currently undoing the work of another Wiki En Wiki sock :( - 07:18, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
I did, in my opinion this might cool down the content dispute going on in there for a while since bassically the last few edits have been about it. I also added a link to the essay in case somebody wants further proof, cheers! -- 21:55, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Coquí

Hola, Tony. Somebody just asked me what coquíes meant to us Puerto Ricans. I was very surprised to be asked that question, and I was honored to answer it, but I was even more surprised that I couldn't find a single article explaining why coquíes are such an important part of our culture other than a couple of sentences in the Puerto Rico article. What do you think? --Boricuaeddie hábleme 13:40, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Your WWII project

That's great Tony!! I'm glad there are people like you who are taking it upon themselves to answer the Ken Burns slight. I am an active AGIF member and I am disappointed in the outcome of the discussions and negotiations with the Burns team. We should have gotten more. Hispanics are not a footnote in the history of WWII. Have you heard of Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez's book "A Legacy Greater Than Words: Stories of U.S. Latinos & Latinas of the World War II Generation". It is the written documentation of an oral history project of the University of Texas at Austin. My father-in-law was interviewed for the project and has a listing - - he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. There has been a push to re-name the U.S. Post Office in Three Rivers, Texas to the Pvt. Felix Z. Longoria, Jr. Post Office. The last time it was up before the Texas Legislature it was shot down because of public disapproval from "white" opposing forces in Three Rivers. Is that deja vu or what? It is up again to be renamed this Legislative session, but our representatives have caved to pressure and are now proposing that the post office be renamed Veterans Memorial Post Office or something like that. We are having a big, albeit quiet, fight here in Texas. The press has not picked up on it, although they know of it. --Chicaneo 17:29, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Image:PR Heart.jpg to Commons

¡Saludos! I want to move Image:PR Heart.jpg, an image you uploaded, to the Wikimedia Commons so that the image can be more accessible to other Wikimedia projects (such as the Spanish Wikipedia). Since you released it under the GFDL, I need your permission to move it. If I hear no word from you in a week, I will move the page with the file history to meet the requirements of the GFDL. Happy editing! --Boricuaeddie 15:16, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Joaquin Phoenix

Check the page, it just got protected after I reverted an super persistent vandal and the last edit saved was done by the vandal. - 01:41, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

I doubt the IP is even coming back he began the pesistency after I gave him a test 2 and afterwards rewarded him with a test 3, test4 and 3RR, so en resumidas cuentas I doubt he will reason now, anyways I think this can be solved by discussing with the protecting admin. About african inmigration I have been trying to see what the deal on the page has been for the last week since I got the e-mail but rewritting Carlito and adding anniversaries to the portal has taken priority, anyways I'm a little stressed out and my edits are suffering, I think that after the entire Carlito rewritting is done I'm going to take the weekend off and just enjoy the Pan American Basketball and Boxing finals on ESPN D. Anyways I am going to take a break on August to visit my family on the island and will join them in a tournament where the Basketball national team will participe, so I better get a rest before raising Carlos and Miguel Cotto to GA. - 02:22, 27 July 2007 (UTC

Looked like an edit war to me. Was it in fact vandalism or is the "American" fact disputed? -- John Reaves 02:27, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

It seemed like nonsense to me, not the part about adding American, but rather adding "Puerto Rican born American", I mean how can you be Puerto Rican born American? since all Puerto Ricans are American? There is a reason I gave him a "test 2" wich starts with "please don't add nonsense..." to him instead of a "test1".- 03:24, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I think it's safe to try out unprotection now. -- John Reaves 19:49, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
So wouldn't a semi-protection to avoid the IP from doing the same again, be appropiate? -

Ok I admit it...I'm insane

Wow, I jut had the craziest idea ever, you see I received this message sent by a teacher working in Mexico that says she uses Wikipedia as a way to help her students in their English class, and then a crazy idea hit me, what if we could contact an universitary English professor in Puerto Rico and propose an idea where he makes one of those 'special projects' in wich each student has to take a certain article and take it to GA in a semester's period for a grade, something like an adopt-a-article kind of project, from what I know based on the experience I had in La Universidad del Turabo in Gurabo the profs make their own schelude, and I have been assigned projects that are far longer and harder than getting an article to GA and I know that profs are fond of Wikipedia so it might be possible. I just think of the potential such a thing can have, lets say we assing one municipal page per student in a thirty or more class all the remaining Municipalities will be GA in two semesters! I don't know if I expressed myself clearly so if you don't understand what I mean just ask an I will explain in Spanish. So what do you think of this insane idea? - 03:10, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

I figured those might be easier for the students living in the island to source and such, at least while this is on an experimental stage since if we let them select without a priority list we will end up with 75% of them editing Carlos Arroyo instead of let's say a page that needs equal work like Chucho Avellanet. I will add the images to the pages that got the copyrighted ones deleted starting tommorow, cheers! - 03:55, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Hispanics in World War II

Hispanics, who constitute the largest minority group in this nation, have participated with distinction in every military conflict in which the United States has been involved from the American Revolution to the present day.

Wow. That introduction strikes the perfect blow to racism towards Latinos in America. It destroys the misconception of our contribution to the United States, reminding all of us that we should be proud of our past, no matter how we're treated today.

I read your work Tony, and it is exemplary. You have always shown a gift of exposing compelling stories, especially of hundreds of Latino unsung heroes. It is fitting that our politicians are taking notice at these important facts, so much so that they plan to make changes in how "the system" works, including the proper public recognition of valor and sacrifice of our Latino patriots.

I hope you continue to write as inspiring as you have. There are much more stories to be told. Paz. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 15:08, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Sure, I will do it right away. - 01:59, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading Image:Venegas.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

Puerto Rico infobox

Not replying to your messages is nothing personal. I just do not have much time to log on to Wikipedia at the moment. I have not internet access at my home and I have a full-time job which does not allow me much spare time to log in.

The constant reverting on the infobox is not to my liking but the creation of an infobox for Puerto Rico only will likely fail. All other single-country infoboxes have been deleted and this will likely happen to one for PR. Joelito (talk) 20:32, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Bizarre vandal

Hey Tony check out this user Bormien, I originally gave him a warning for messing up AntonioMartin's user page [2] but a quick browse trough his edits shows a weird side of him, it seems like he is obssesed with Noelia (with deleting all mention of her name that is), in some cases to the point of adding mis-information on purpouse[3][4] and to a lesser extent[5] I joked about this being Topy Mamery's IP at first but after browsing his contributions I'm starting to believe it, just informing you so we can kee a close eye on him. - 06:24, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry for bothering so much, Tony are you by any chance a fan of pro wrestling? if not can you please take some time to review Carly Colón's GAC, some wrestling fans are complaining about the article being to outside of kayfabe and I want a neutral user to do the review. - 09:01, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

RE:Your RfA

Thanks for the offer! The e-mail has been sent :-) Happy editing! --Boricuaeddie 21:40, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah its kind of hard to know wich one is wich if you don't follow wrestling, though a simple way of remebering it is Carlitos = many scars and Carlito = huge afro :) About the name change is only a matter of symmetry, I have used the current name for a while before my Wiki arrival and it kind of make sense going back to the old name, I don't mind anyone refering to me by my former user name though. -- Caribbean~H.Q. 02:50, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Sandy, you really know how much I respect your work and value your opinions. I'm not in good health and that is why I'm considering this my last major project. I was wondering if you could be so kind enough to let me know in my talk page which are the website sources that are personal, so that I can look look into them. I onl;y ask you this favor because I'm not feeling that well. Thanks. 23:47, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Epa, Tony, I've spent about four hours on it tonight, y estoy mareada ya. I think it still needs several days' work to be prepared for FA status; I'm willing to help, but it needs copyediting and a lot of sourcing work. Espero que te sientas mejor. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 06:41, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
Hey, Tony, I'm going to keep plugging through, but there are some sources needed. Are you and others going to be available to work on those? I'll keep fixing refs, copyediting, and identifying sources needed. Saludos, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:15, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Tony, I'm stalled on what to do next. For example, I can't locate a reliable source on Desi Arnaz, don't know where to find a reliable source for the number of airplanes used in the War, things like that. Some of the sources may be pointing to the wrong webpage, since I couldn't verify some of the information. I think I'll wait for you to have a look before deciding what to do next. What do you think about leaving the list of Medal of Honor recipients as a link to its own article, since most of them are uncited? By linking to that list as a See also, you won't have to cite each instance in this article in order to have it featured. Saludos, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:16, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Also, there are a couple of things that seem to stray from a tight focus on the topic at hand. What would you think about deleting the first paragraph of "Discrimination", to increase the focus on the Hispanic portions beginning in the second paragraph, and avoid the lack of a reliable source for the first paragraph? I found a couple of other similar paragraphs that could be deleted without altering the substance of the article. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:19, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
You mean go ahead and delete that para and similar things? Wow, that's a scary responsibility, Tony—are you sure ? By the way, I see a long list of books in further reading; would any of those books be sources for some of the text that had lesser-quality sources? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:30, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Tony, let me know what you think of the tables I added. If you don't like them, just say the word and I'll undo them. I'll work on some copyediting tomorrow. Saludos, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 05:11, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm glad you like it, but please don't feel obligado. If it's too big or anything we can lose it. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 05:22, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Do you like the medal chart up top? I thought that would be better than having the two charts together, and it fills the white space next to the table of contents. If you don't like it, pls revert. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 05:29, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Tony, on the size of the table, I agree. It's not aesthetically pleasing in its current form, and someone may object. I don't know much about coding tables. Do you know someone who can look at it, or would you like for me to ask around? I'll follow your talk page so you don't have to keep responding on mine. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:08, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

  • How about if I return the section to its original state (since it's in the FAC thing), while I experiemnt with some tables in my workshop? Does that sound like a plan? Tony the Marine 18:15, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Is the copyediting I'm doing so far OK? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:03, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

  • No question about it. I only wish that I had your ability. Hey, I have over 400 articles, are you interested? (smile, joking) Tony the Marine 01:13, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Tony, do you have a source for the chart of the number of metals? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:57, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, see it's in the text :-) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 05:38, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Finished with first pass copyedit (except the lead) and sourcing; some of TomStar's suggestions on the FAC for merging a few sections seem good. Would you like for me to work on any of that? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 06:16, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Sandy, TomStar's suggestions are scary. Many of these sections already have thier intro paragraphs which somehow would have to be broken. For example, the "Aviators" has what I consider a good intro. If we are to break up that section and put parts in the "European Theater" and the other in "Pacific Theater" a lot more work will have to be done to introduce these.

The sad truth is that I have seen some cases where people post their "oppose" in FAC's and after some writers have done everything recommended, many of these "opposers" do not even reconsider. I don't know maybe I'm getting old or something, but I know that you just can't make everybody happy. Tony the Marine 06:49, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

The part I agreed with was combining all of the Honors: that is, group Honoring Hispanics, Hero Street, and Recipients of Medal of Honor all into one Honoring Hispanics section, with 3 subsections. I agree the personnel shouldn't be combined. Then I'd merge End of the War into Home Front for the conclusion. I'd leave the rest alone. What do you think? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 07:08, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
  • O.K., You are my right hand here (smile). Sandy send me an e-mail I want to share some cool news with. Tony the Marine 07:12, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
    • Meaning it's OK to do that? Then I'll do it tomorrow--hours past my bedtime. Will e-mail you know, but respond tomorrow. By the way, I've worked a lot with TomStar before, and I believe his concerns can be satisfied. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 07:14, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
      • Tony, I'm sorry, I was sick yesterday. I'll go ahead and merge those Honoring sections today. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:08, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
