Re:Argentine films[edit]

Ah. Muchas gracias mi amigo argentino. See Category:Argentine films. There was only about 9 films six weeks ago!!! Argentina is the first country I am tackling on wikipedia.

The work is part of these templates I created. Please delete them from this page when you have seen them: {{CinemaofArgentina}}, {{Worldcinema}}, {{Filmsbycountry}}

I will then start all of the actor, direcotrs, cinematogrpahers, editors etc. It is even on Argentina main page.

Ernst Stavro Blofeld 12:53, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is a mammoth task but I am trying to grasp the whole Wikiprojecy film as a global whole and cover every aspect of world film.
Also see {{Missingfilmsbycountry}} which this is a part of! Ernst Stavro Blofeld 12:55, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Argentine films now has 225 + articles and actors and direcotrs gradually being added e.g Roberto Escalada. I have joined your WIkiProject but no one has noticed!! When I have time I'll talk page tag all of the Argentine films as WP topic culture. Ever thought of a topic=bio category to put article on Argentine people in ? Any objections if I can organize a page dedicated to Argentine cinema at Wikipedia:WikiProject Argentina/Cinema of Argentina . It is part of WikiProject Argentina but I need a page in which I can organise everything such as to do tasks, list of missing actors, directors etc for Cinema which is a big topic. Priorites expand Cinema of Argentina page etc. I can place my List of films template there etc. User:LuigiBob is helping out too. Ernst Stavro Blofeld 11:10, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes but on the main page I was going to add a small section just before related projects labelled- Sub projects as this is inteneded to be within the project not outside of it. Avellaneda[edit]

I have since responded @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Oalexander-En#Avellaneda.

To let you know: when I was in BsAs for the first time some years ago I was standing aroyund somehow clueless at La Bomboniera, and some socio who identified himself later as a meber of el presidio got to talk to me and decided to give me a free stadium tour, after he found out I am a real futebolista do ultramar. It was unforgettable, and since the the Boca Juniors are very deep in my heart too! ;)

Therefore I still care about Argentina, suffer a bit about it when its people bleed, and bother to care about writing articles about Avellaneda, on the other bank of the river.

Hello Mariano, pleased to meet you, I'm new at wikipedia's protocol, it's not easy but keeps my mind exercised y como sos argentino continuare en castellano, soy Jorge, medio Porteño, Santafesino y Entrerriano, criado en otros lares, multicultural.

Dear Mariano,
I have discovered the logo that you created for the Wikiproject Argentina : Image:WikiProject Argentina.svg. Would it be possible to you to create a similar logo for the French-speaking Wikiproject Tunisia ? It would include the crescent and star from the Tunisian flag (Image:Flag of Tunisia.svg) surrounded by red half-circles. Best regards Moumou82

"Greatest" claims"[edit]

Firstly, my edits were not vandalism so please don't infer that they were. I removed the "greatest" claim from several articles. "Regarded by many" is a weasel word and calling anyone the greatest is POV. Each article (Alfredo Di Stéfano, Ferenc Puskás, Michel Platini, Diego Maradona, Johan Cruijff and Pelé) states their acheivements. Readers should come to their own conclusion. There's a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football regarding this. Stu ’Bout ye! 13:08, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't see where SSC Napoli was restored in that diff? Stu ’Bout ye! 11:59, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding consensus, that would be good but consensus to insert POV is still POV. Regarding Maradona, rather than just stating he is regarded as one of the greatest it is better to state what the two sources say, ie Cantona regards him the greatest and his result on the FIFA poll. Stu ’Bout ye! 12:04, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have set out why I feel these claims cannot be used at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football‎. The section I have quoted from WP:NPOV is fairly clear I think. Also, it would be helpful if you could use edit summeries. Using popups or other scripts to revert makes it look like you are reverting vandalism. Stu ’Bout ye! 12:28, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Villa Paranacito[edit]

Dear Mariano; I totally disagree with the changes / deletetions you've made and am very, very disappointed!!

  • 1) The "Fruit Boat Image": these boats are seen throughout the Delta, especially in Villa Paranacito!
  • 2) "Boat Tour - Travelogue" Link: Tours to Villa Paranacito from Tigre are available by this same company and furthermore, its an English Language link witch now there is none and
  • 3) "Other Intenal Links taken out": Tigre is completely related, so is Campana, San Fernando and Gualeguaychu…, its like the umbilical cord of Villa Paranacito!

How do i know?; I've had family in the third section and trough-out the Delta and have been many times in this paradisiacal paradise, particularly when the Galofré made the jaunt, and as a matter of fact, one of the images provided is by a family member originally from Arroyo Martínez, Lets not be so regional, think global, lets put our beloved country on the map! so please explain changes/deletetions, Saludos cordiales – Moebiusuibeom 15:38, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mariano, I've reverted changes, but upon further research, "Boat Tour - Travelogue" Link is about Tigre but could very well apply to any place in the Delta and they do have tours to Villa Patranacito, we could remove it and place it on Tigre Article! the other links and images i would live like it is, please let me know your thoughts!! – Moebiusuibeom 05:04, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the tips, did modifications you’ve suggested, “small boats” was the wrong word, “small vessels” cover more ground so as “provisions”, I believe Villa Paranacito looks kind of nice, all it needs now is a little more info about town and its folks in the area, happy Wikipedialing. – Moebiusuibeom 14:24, 14 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Bochini[edit]

Hola Mariano,
Gracias,

List of Argentine films[edit]

I would have appreicated if you had spoken to me personally about the redirects and you would have had an answer immediately. I have recebtly gone through with the redirects to get the titles into the wiki database/. My next task asap will be to go through and comipletley fill the tables and unwikify the double links until the areticles can be started. The redirects will not be removed but will be unwikified. Why didn't you ask me about it? Please have faith in me it is an enormous task to take on on my own - to document 80+ years of cinema is hard beleive me and I am working on this gradually. I have greatly improved 1935-1942 which I am currently on. I prefer to do it this way as the task doesn't seem so daunting. As for User:Cop whatver -not the most pleasant of users -he has criticized the work greatly alos of User:LuigiBob who has also done great work on Argentine cinema - Cop is a user who always focuses on the negative and rather rudely nevers replies to your messages. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 15:01, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Will do. Well that criticism by the cop has rekindled my enthusiasm for completing them. I have completed 1938-1944 today and hope to get the 1940s complete by tonight. The reason I created the redirects was the task of the missing films didn't seem so bad and daunting!! I am gradually blacking out the funny links so the problem will eventually be taken care of and I sincerely hope it will be a major asstet for Argentina on wikipedi culturally!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 19:04, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mapuche[edit]

Hi. The anonymous edition about the claim of a Doric origin of Mapuche people isn't a vandalism o a lie, it is a fantastic theory created by a lonco from Ngulu Mapu and it was supported by many sectors of Mapuche society when it was published. It is told as an anecdotical thing in some books of History of Chile. Bye. --Lin linao 18:53, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I was searching for more info and... there is no data about this stuff, excepting ironical comments in a nazi web site and a blog. However, I found that the brain behind the history is a Chilean man who adopted the name "Lonco Quilapán" (there is an historical cacique with same name) and he mixed UFOs, Spartans and lost civilizations. In a word: thrash. Therefore, it is not necessary take care with his "discovery". Thanks. Lin linao 18:20, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Saludos.

Sewickley Edit Inappropriate[edit]

To find blatant vandalism is one thing. To condone it passively by adding an exclamation point to something that violates Wiki policy is not appropriate. I am eliminating the offending passage entirely from the Sewickley disambiguation page.

Entropy[edit]

Hola, Mariano

Ancestry[edit]

Hello Mariano. I have seen your recent edit to Vladislao Cap article. Do you know of which ancestry Cap is? His name would indicate Czech or Polish ancestry. He is nicknamed The Pole ... Any ideas? - Darwinek 16:56, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know you must be very busy, but it is not polite to revert without an explanation and even worse qualify it as vandalism (RVV, "reverted vandalism"). That aside, Do you have a source that indicates that Gustavo Santaolalla is an American? Neither the List of Argentine Americans nor his article indicate that, only that he is based in California. If you have a source that satisfies Wikipedia:Attribution and Wikipedia:Reliable sources you are welcome to add it back, in the meantime I am removing him from such list. --FateClub 19:57, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Water and sanitation in Latin America[edit]

Thank you for adding the namespace template at the end of the various country articles on water and sanitation in Latin America. Unfortunately the standard regional template is for South America only, which does not match with Latin America. Or is it possible to create a namespace template for Latin America?--Mschiffler 02:05, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your polite edit summary comment. It was my pleasure to assist in the clean up of this article however I left the reference tag there for the reason that at this stage there are no inline references. By inline I mean references that point directly to attribution of various parts of the article. I say this because it is not quite adequate in a biography simply to write about someone and then say that it comes (generally) from one book/source or another. Until inline references are put in place can I ask that you leave the template in its place - that will mean that you or other editors will add appropriate references to lift this article past its current class level. If you need help with inline referencing please let me know.--VS talk 14:07, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Template has been removed. Article is lovely now - well done ... perhaps a photograph of the great Adolfito to finish it off a bit more?--VS talk 18:32, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have begun work on the List of Argentine films. Not only have I removed all double links now but I have merged all the articles by decade and am as far as the 1950s. THanks. I really feel it is easier to try to grasp the cinema with decades as the many seperate pages would require far more maintenance. Isabel[edit]

Done. Isabel Sarli -wow thats a very sexually attractive women - I get the impression that Armando Bo was quite a playboy judging by some of his films!! I thought that before as I was going through the films consistently seeing sex-comedy and porn but after seeing his wife and he discovered her after Miss Argentina 1955 I kind of figured where his mind was at!!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 20:13, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I can see she is notable allright. I think the categories are appropriate -I think the adult model category also is right and Argentine models does Miss Argentina exist? but not Argentine porn stars -I don't think she was quite like that! I had noticed her name in some of the lists and would have got around to it eventually. I will also write those articles such as Fiebre and Fuego which are still as yet just in the lists. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 20:30, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Or am I mistaken? I have just checked out some of her and Bo's films such as Fuego and they look like porn to me. Could she be classed as a porn actress? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 20:36, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are either a child or mentally handicapped[edit]

You are either a child or as an adult read only one or two books about the Falklands/Malvinas. Why don't you polish up on your knowledge of the ground fighting in the Falklands/Malvinas by getting hold of "Victory in the Falklands", "Razor's Edge" and "5th Infantry Brigade in the Falklands"? These books were either written by British servicemen who served in the Falklands or M16 agents that served in Argentina. You would be suprised to know that I. J. Ruiz-Moreno wasn't writing bullshit when he wrote Comandos En Accion ( Bs As) for the British authors admit two Royal Marine platoons of 42 Commando were defeated on Mount Wall (morning of 3rd June and night of 5/6 June) and the equivalent of a 3 Para platoon were defeated at Murrell Bridge on the night of 6/7 June. In other words the equivalent of a British company were put to shame in these patrol actions, abandoning a laser target designator (Mount Wall) and a radio (Murrell Bridge) that were recovered by Argentina's 602st and 602nd SF units of the Argentinean Army. ANSWER: okay fair enough I apoligize. But I admit I got the shits I got angry and I should've been more civilized in getting my point across to you. But I have quoted the authors, the book and the page that proves the Argentinean Special Forces were active in No-Man's-Land. If you really doubt my sources I can fax them to you. I guess there is a big misconception not only in Britain but also in Argentina about the performance of the Argentinean Army but thank goodness recently authors such as Hugh Bicheno and Nicholas van der Bijl prove that the middle rank and junior officers fought honourably and that the Argnentinean SF units gave the British quite a few headaches from the period 29 May till 10 June. I really wouldn't like to escalate this matter any further so I ask you to accept my apoligies and to please stop deleting my contributions especially since I have quoted a primary source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.27.219.49 (talkcontribs)

Sorry about stepping into the spelling war on the Manu Ginobili article - the anonymous editor before me had reverted to an older version of the article that contained the "mastered the art of 'flopping'" nonsense so I just smacked the rollback button. Araucania and Patagonia? Is this for real?[edit]

Mariano,

By pure chance I found this article: Araucania and Patagonia. Is this for real? I studied Argentina's history for years and have never heard of it. I am surprised at my ignorance if this isn't bogus and really happened. Can you shed any light on this? Should it be added to Project Argentina? Alexf(t/c) 21:00, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aconcagua[edit]

Can you please comment and/or cite your references regarding the reverts you did yesterday on Aconcagua and Aconcagua River? Gsv 10:28, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks. I'm not the one who made the changes, I just noticed that his spelling of the camp site names matches that of the spanish version of the page. Also, his information on the source of the Aconcagua River better matches my knowledge of the area (It seems the continental divide follows the Arg./Chilean border pretty closely, hence the Cerro Aconcagua area drains to the east, not to the west.) Let's just hope this guy comes around again to provide some sources for his information. -- Gsv 14:56, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Mariano, I'm argentinean and I was the person who did the changes to the article. As you can see in the spanish article and in many others sites in the web, the Aconcagua River doesn't rise in the Aconcagua Mount. This is correct because Aconcagua Mount is entirely in Argentina and doesn't "divide waters" as you probably know, so why did you revert those changes in the article?. Regards. The Name of Diego[edit]

Hi,
I see that you removed my edit in 'Trivia' about Diego's name being only Diego Armando Maradona and not Diego Armando Maradona Franco. I am very interested to know the reason for this. You are obviously an Argentinian, so you will know exactly what you are talking about in this matter. Every other Spaniard or Spanish-speaking Latin American I have ever heard of uses first the father's surname name, then the mother's surname. Why is Diego different? As an outsider to Latin American culture, I am clearly missing something.

Argentine Culture[edit]

Hi Mariano, I read, with interest, your recent edit of: 'Modern Argentine culture, albeit primarily Latin American, has been formed and influenced by European immigration ..... ' where you replaced the reference to indigenous culture, previously deleted.

Whilst I agree that it is very important not to overlook the influence of indigenous culture, I have to say that I feel that the balance is wrong in this sentence. Instead I suggest:

'Modern Argentine culture, albeit primarily determined by European immigration also contains important indigenous influences.'

What do you think? David(TalkContribs) 13:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

El Ateneo[edit]

Hi Mariano, Thanks for your edits. I think 'Situated at number 1860 of the Santa Fe Avenue' would be better expressed as 'Situated at 1860 Sante Fe Avenue' What do you think? It's a problem rendering Argentine addresses in English isn't it? Do we have any guidelines? Presumably 'Callao y Sante Fe' is expressed in English as 'on the corner of Callao Av. and Sante Fe Av.'? Also when it comes to the use of a word like 'barrio' in English do we use the Spanish word, and make it a link to explain the meaning, do we write 'barrio (neighbourhood)' each time or do we dispense with the Spanish altogether and put 'neighbourhood'? Also, in the case of place names like 'Confiteria El Molino' do we use the Spanish name with an English translation in brackets (which I prefer), or vice versa? Some guidelines would be useful because the practise is not uniform across articles about Argentina written in English. Best wishes David(TalkContribs) 16:04, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Rae.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:56, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Francisco Salamone[edit]

Hi Mariano,

I was suprised to see that in your recent copy-edit of Azul you deleted the following:

The cemetery portal and slaughter house were both designed by the architect, Francisco Salamone, and contain elements of Art Deco style. Built in the late 1930's, these buildings were some of the first examples of modern architecture in rural Argentina.

I added this paragraph as a result of my research into the works of Francisco Salamone who was an important architect working in the Art Deco style during the 1930's in the Province of BA. Anyone interested in the history of Azul would surely like to know about the presence of works by this architect in the town? David(TalkContribs) 13:27, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Weinschenk 18:53, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted edit of Bjorkman[edit]

Hi Mariano, you reverted my edit of Jonas Bjorkman where I added two external links to useful pages. Why?

You Reverted Dozens of My Edits[edit]

What can I do to get you to restore all my edits that you have reverted? --ShabbatSam 06:51, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My Edits - Explanation[edit]

I am very new to wikipedia editing, and only created my account a week ago. When Andy Roddick beat Nicolas Mahut a week ago, I searched on Mahut and found his wikipedia entry. I created an account so I could put an external link in his page to a page of my own that searches for and finds all his match results for the last 3 months.

After I made that link, within a couple hours I noticed people coming to my site from Wikipedia to view that search. So I added a few more for other players, with similar results.

And now that the first round matches for Wimbledon have been announced, I went back in the last couple days and began to add links for as many players as possible, something that took me several minutes per link to do and verify.

My site is non-commercial, and the info tennis fans can find there is extremely useful as well as UNIQUE on all the web.

So I am at a loss as to why you spent some time 2 or 3 days ago reverting many of my changes. I would appreciate it if you could undo your reverts of my edits, or please tell me what I can do to make edits properly that you won't see a need to revert.

Sincerely, --ShabbatSam 07:01, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
