List of Winnie-the-Pooh Characters[edit]

Hello, Man from Canada! I have no emotional investment in the recent edits I made to List of Winnie-the-Pooh characters but I felt I'd explain my edits, because I think much of what I trimmed was legitimate trimming. Winnie-the-Pooh, the titular character, has a 77-word description. His best friend, Piglet, has a 56-word description. In contrast, it is proposed that Kanga, a subordinate, is worthy of a 270 word description. And the Woozles? Long description for characters who don't even exist in the original book.  :) I am of the opinion that the purpose of a character list is generally not to explain the entire history of a character, what color it is, what it likes to eat, etc., rather to give the researcher a rough idea of who the character is. "Kanga is a kangaroo, she has a kid, she lives in the 100 Acre Wood, she is kind-hearted and loving and would help anybody in a pinch." (generally, anyway, some exceptions apply.) Back-story and nuance and speculation as to her psychological condition (arithmomania?) doesn't really belong in a list, but perhaps in her own article? Or, maybe it just belongs in the book. Anyway, them's my thoughts. I'm interested in a peaceful collaboration as we improve the article. Regards, respect, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:19, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kanga doesn't have her own article anymore. It was merged into the list. I added that info because I don't know where else to put it. On Wikipedia, a character with their own article often gets a much shorter description on a character list because the rest of their info can go on their own article. And I always thought that when a character is merged into a list, that is where any info on them belongs. In fact, we could even remove the character descriptions of Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin, Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit, Tigger, Roo and Heffalump from the list altogether (unless any of them gets merged too) and just leave the links to the main articles. Of course, I'm not too attached to my edits either. I was just trying for a complete description. But if there's a good reason for it, then a little more trimming might not hurt. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
