License tagging for Image:Wrightgrave.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Wrightgrave.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. Your edits to Marbury v. Madison[edit]

I'm concerned about the tone of your edits to this article. Phrases like "Like countless streams flowing into a great river that snakes its way to the sea, so to did Marbury v. Madison had all manner of history flowing into it, and a fair amount of flotsam swept along with it" are not encyclopedic. We can't try to spice up the statements of fact with poetic metaphors, or by sliding into a conversational tone. Instead, our writing should strive to be precise, informative, and clear. Start with the Wikipedia:Manual of style to see what form of writing is acceptable. Also, please spell check your edits before you save them—much of what you have posted has had a number of typos. Spelling and POV[edit]

Please consider using a spell check program for your edits. In addition to some of the problems relating to Marbury, there are spelling errors in your edits to the Louisiana Purchase entry. Additionally, some of your edits violate WP:NPOV, for example, in Proclamation of Neutrality, it's inappropriate to write that Madison "caved" to Jefferson, or that the proclamation set a "proud precedent" for future U.S. administrations. I believe there is a program that will do spell checking, but I'll have to get back to you on it (I think its called AWB). I use Firefox version 2, which has a spell check built in.

As far as the POV, "caved" came across as particularly un-encyclopedic more than it is POV, so I suppose I should have been clearer about my objections to that. All of your examples, "he caved; he knuckled under; he threw in the towel" are cliches that could be written in a more professional manner. As far as "proud," vanity or not, it isn't a fact, it's your opinion. You're making a value judgment that the precedent is "proud" and that's not what editors are supposed to being doing. On February 7th you edited the Boston Tea Party article [1]. In particular, you changed Dartmouth, Eleanor, and Beaver to H.M.S Dartmouth, H.M.S. Eleanor, and H.M.S Beaver. I don't think this is correct. Please provide a source if available. - Crosbiesmith 21:57, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Manual of style[edit]

You were advised in January to read up on Wikipedia:Manual of style. I would urge you to do so once again, and in addition, to read WP:NOT. Many of your edits continue to read more as prose than as encyclopedic content. For instance, in the article on Sheldonian Theatre you wrote "Naming the building "The Sheldonian Theatre" was the least they could do". That is your opinion. It is not fact, and per WP:NOT, "Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought."

As another example, in Victoria of the United Kingdom you wrote, "* Victoria cannot be considered beautiful, but she was attractive in her own way. Called "the little queen," she stood about 5 ft. She had bright blue eyes and long brown hair. However, she had a large, puffy face and a mouth that was amiable only when she smiled. Her appeal lay in her immense intelligence and her iron will, plus her sophistication and wit." In this example, Victoria's nickname, height, and the color of her hair and eyes are all facts (unsourced, but facts nevertheless). The remainder of the quote is your opinion regarding those facts, i.e. that she was not "beautiful", that she was "attractive in her own way", etc.

Your edits add much useful and interesting information, but I encourage you to review the Wikipedia guidelines so that you do so in conformity with the standards of this project. Cheers, JCO312 17:54, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Excerpts from chronicles[edit]

While I know you mean to be helpful, you should reflect that medieval chronicles are not reliable sources per WP:RS. Furthermore, their English translations are most likely copyrighted.
