Advice with cropped image
Hi Mabalu, sorry to bother you on this but I'm having difficulty cropping an image for a page I'm writing [1] on the halo hat. I've cropped other images which have worked fine, but this one has not worked [2]. The process I've used is to download, crop on iPhoto and then re-upload – worked with the others. Somewhat embarrassing as efforts to fix this image seem to have sent it off kilter on every page. Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong and how to fix the mess I've caused before I get a huge telling off! Thanks so much. Libby norman (talk) 15:01, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

- Hi Libby Norman! Technically you should upload the cropped version as a separate file, as some people will prefer to use the fuller image, and others will want the cropped version. Check out my draped turban crops, and how I've linked them on the file pages to the cropped and fuller versions. Just upload the crop as something like "Julie Manet 1894 cropped" and link to it from the original file. As I said however, I don't really consider it a halo hat. - Hi Mabalu, I think I've resolved the issue and all the images are on one page on Commons. There are quite a few versions on there so someone might still tell me off. I followed the advice on purging and this seemed to work. I'm not calling it a classic halo but a halo or aureole shape as the style is said to have emerged in the 1880s – reference material talks about a hat worn back off the forehead to act as a circular frame for the face. I must admit, as always ref material doesn't provide a completely consistent view. There seems to be some crossover between halo, picture and cartwheel (Chico book I quote calls them 'sisters').
