Adoption

Hello, I did not know if you are currently adopting wikipeople. I am trying to get my articles to GA and FA status, such as East Carolina University. But I would like to learn more about other aspects of wikipedia. We have some of the same interest so I believe it will be a good match. Thanks in advance, PGPirate

why the external link I added was deleted

In looking for pictures of a friend who played at SMU I found the College Football Players Info page, which had a plethora a good quality pictures. When you removed my added link you said "I do not think this like(?) is useful, especially since the site images don't work and the layout is horrible and has no original content."

On the contrary, I found it a useful source of biographical information and photos. I think the site fulfills it's mission of serving fans, family and friends of players, especially since the schools' own pages have limited content that gets trashed annually by the schools' webmasters. If the original content rule applied, there would be no Wikipedia, whereas this football fan site is a major aggregator and growing, obviously with the full cooperation of the schools themselves. The picture quality is high,, even to the extent of using png instead of jpg (a wretched compression scheme if I ever saw one) and it's layout is supposed to be user friendly, and I thought it was. I'm puzzled that you had problems with the pictures as I tried it with both Safari, Opera and Firefox.

If you have the final word, I shall be extremely puzzled but so be it, however, I think it would be a useful reader service to have the external link reinstated. Homoperfectus 00:37, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

David Duchovny

I just asked somebody from flickr to give me permission to use their photo of David Duchovny that I assume they shot. If they give me permission am I allowed to post it onto Wikipedia. I tried before to put an image of him that I found on the The X-Files article. But the image went sort of wonky, the image code was on the outside and the picture was on the outside. What's strange is that a different pixel assignment was on it that I hadn't put. So please let me know if I can do the former; and if you want to see what went wrong with what I tried to do before check out the history of the article under Lighthead. How do I send it

How do I send Bison running to the Commons? Do I need to have deleted the Wikipedia version and then make a separate one there. þ 18:10, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Commons problem

I upload Image:GGGSgreengold.jpg to commons but got a db error during the upload. I reloaded the image and also tried a regenerate tool BigDT told me about. The problem is that it only displays on some pages, not others--such as my user page on commons. I tagged it for speedy delete hoping a totally new upload may work. Thanks, I reloaded after deleting and it still didn't work. I had to upload under a new name and "bad name" the first one, Image:GGGSgreengold.jpg, which is probably still there. Images you didn't originally upload

I see that like me, you often upload low-resolution versions of nonfree images. To avoid getting notices about them, you might try my method: add a section to the image description page called "Original uploader information" and copy the file history from the original uploader. That way people will know who the real uploader is. (Doesn't work on bots, unfortunately.) —Angr 17:40, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

I tried to put the David Duchovny picture (which I got full permission from the person at flickr) but absolutely nothing happened. Question on a rating

Hey, since I've been working on this article I don't feel comfortable doing a review of it, but do you think 2007 USC Trojans football team (which you rated way back in January) is to the point where its a bit beyond a stub? It's sort of a weird situation because the season hasn't started, so I can't possibly finish it, but I think I've crammed (and cited to reputable sources) just about all that can be said at this point in the middle of fall training camp. I'm aiming to make this a GA/FA candidate by February 2008 once the whole season (good or bad) and it's after effects (good or bad) have worked themselves out. --Bobak 23:34, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Reminder to Mentor

Hola Mentors!

Im sending you this reminder because you volunteered to mentor my students in English Advanced B as they become contributing members of the Wikipedia community. We start working with Wikipedia in earnest next week. I ask you to take a look at your entry in the Mentor Table at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors

Please update the information, esp. with what your technical and informational expertise is or, if you have decided that you no longer want to participate, please remove your information from the table. Please watch the pages associated with the project. Students will contact you via your user page and as soon as my students have user pages, I will put them on the navigation bar associated with the project.

I don’t need to remind you that your job is NOT to write their assignments for them, of course. I certainly will tell my students that… and the fact that you are volunteers that don’t have to help them… so they need to be nice. If any students misbehave (tho I don’t expect it) don’t hesistate to contact me and I will take care of it. The goal of this project is to integrate successfully into the Wikipedia community. Anyway… what I really need your help with is helping students get oriented to Wikipedia, make appropriate changes and write about appropriate topics (see Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Syllabus for assignments). I also need your technical expertise… I am only an English teacher after all! I appreciate what technology does for us but I am no technical expert!

Image question

At some point while looking through the college football wikiproject I noticed you were big on fixing images. I've never looked into all the licensing stuff, but then I came upon this image which was on the page Cam whore. The image was uploaded from flickr with a creative commons Attribution ShareAlike License, but when I looked at the image on the flickr account, the user says she found the camera with this picture on it and it is thus not her work so she can't license it as such (I'm not sure about that exactly). I realize this is probably flickr's problem, but I just think it might be a problem that this girl, who never uploaded this picture to the internet, has it on a wikipedia page about "Cam whores". I brought it up on the article talk page and was going to bring it up on the image page, but I wasn't sure if I was correct and wanted to ask someone first.
