External link spam[edit]

Hi, I've just noticed you're adding masses of external links to a project it appears you're associated with (per your username). This is problematic on a number of levels, but principally we have a guideline on externals links here which you should read. This section gives a list of links to be avoided, and the reasons include:

1. Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a featured article.
[…]
12. Open wikis, except those with a substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors.

Another relevant guideline is WP:LINKSPAM which reads: Adding external links to an article or user page for the purpose of promoting a website or a product is not allowed, and is considered to be spam. Have you discussed the mass additions of links at a relevant wikiproject, say WikiProject Molecular and Cellular Biology?

Finally I must point you to our guideline on conflict of interest, which can be summed up as existing when advancing outside interests is more important to an editor than advancing the aims of Wikipedia, that editor stands in a conflict of interest. According to your username it appears you are associated with the site to which you are adding links.

Please stop adding these links and engage in discussion with other editors before continuing. benmoore 11:02, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I added a proposal to the group you suggested. I hope our resource is useful to the Wikipedia community. It does provide more in depth descriptions and more images etc. We have also been around since 2009 although the site that is online now was just rolled out a few months ago. Our editors are mostly profs so although the number is fewer. So I dont think the links should be avoided.
Anyway, thanks for your feedback. Hopefully the other Wikipedia editors will discuss the pros and cons of linking out to the site. MBproj (talk) 10:16, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
