Hiya. Thanks for your contributions to some Hong Kong-related articles. You might be interested to take a look at HK wikipedians' notice board, HK Collaboration of the Week and Current events in Hong Kong and Macao. Enjoy! :-D — Jerry Crimson Mann 28 June 2005 07:50 (UTC)

Wikimania 2006

This is a reminder to all that there will be a meeting of Vancouver area Wikipedians on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. for all interested persons. We will meet in McDonald's at 897 Granville St. and Smithe in downtown Vancouver. This site was chosen simply because its central location and easy recognizability would make it easier for people who have never seen each other to find each other. Please feel free to bring additional interested people.

There are two questions to be discussed:

  1. Is there any interest for starting a Vancouver (or BC) chapter of Wikipedia?
  2. Is there enough interest and ability to make a Vancouver bid for Wikimania 2006?

Wikimedia Canada

Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. A local chapter will help promote and improve the organization, within our great nation. We'd also like to encourage everyone to suggest projects for our national chapter to participate in. Hope to see you there!--DarkEvil 17:11, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject Vancouver and the GVRD

To all WikiProject Vancouver participants: A question has been raised in the WikiProject discussion about whether the entire GVRD should be covered by WP Vancouver. I'd love to hear your input on this on the discussion page because I think it is a possibility despite the amount of workload involved.

Also, don't forget that there is a Yahoo Group for WP Vancouver [1] if you want to be involved in a possible Vancouver meetup. Thanks. :) --Buchanan-Hermit™..CONTRIBS..SPEAK!. 21:54, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Can you think of anything that we're really missing on that article. I've contacted a historian at the archives about some early history and possibly historical photos (as well as copyright status on them) so I shall see what I can find there. I'm trying to find a solid solid source on the amount of land bought in the Lions Gate Bridge deal, I have seen varying figures. Per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kent-Meridian High School, I just thought you'd like to know that the consensus for High School articles now appears to be swinging back in favor of deletion. So this may indicate the beginning of another campaign to remove most High School articles. Your opinion on the AfD article would be appreciated. It might be helpful if a notability standard for High Schools could be agreed upon. Thank you. — RJH (talk) 16:40, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Miniicq.JPG)

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Miniicq.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --Durin 12:58, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Vancouver move

Regarding the requested move, wouldn't the reason you stated be a vote to oppose the change then? -→Buchanan-Hermit/?! 05:28, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Well, it says "Vancouver to Vancouver, British Columbia" and "Vancouver (disambiguation) to Vancouver". From what I understand... Vancouver (dab) will be moved to Vancouver, and the current Vancouver article would move to Vancouver, British Columbia. Therefore, if you're looking for Vancouver (the Canadian city), you will need to type in "Vancouver, British Columbia" and not "Vancouver." I hope I didn't confuse it further for you. -→Buchanan-Hermit/?! 05:52, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Image:Twinstogether.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Twinstogether.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image copyright problem with Image:IMG 0534.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:IMG 0534.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu Badali 15:17, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

You tagged this as GFDL-presumed, which is supposed to mean that you believe the uploader is the creator. However, I don't think this is the case with this image. There is no reason to assume that it's either GFDL or free for non-commercial use (as you wrote on the image description page). As such, I've listed it at WP:PUI. Info in Urine Therapy article

Hi, LuckyLuke:

If I understand the page history correctly, you have made a lot of contributions to the Urine Therapy page, one of which is the comment (added on November 10th) about urine containing "metabolites of corticosteriods" and this being a possible explanation for its beneficial action and the warning about its dire side effects.

I wonder where you have obtained this information, or whether it is your own conclusion. I must confess that I am extremely dubious about these ideas, for the following reasons:

1) As I understand it, the total solid content of urine is about 5%, the other 95% being water. Of this 5%, about half is urea. Therefore, all other substances in urine constitute just 2.5%. I assume this is by weight, since solids (salts, stc) are not usually measured by volume.

Supposing that a user of urine therapy drank, say, 50 ml of urine in the morning. This would weigh about 50g, so the total solid content, excluding the urea, would be 2.5% of this, which is about 1.25g. Of course, only a minute fraction of this would be the metabolites of corticosteroids.

According to reference 3, humans excrete 4.5 to 7.5 mg of "corticosterone-like substances" per day. The wikipedia article on Human Urine says that normal production is 1 to 2 litres per day. Taking middling values of 6 mg and 1.5 litres, this gives a concentration of about 4mg/l. So drinking 50 ml of urine would provide about 0.2 mg of these substances.

According to the doses of corticosteroids indicated in reference 5 in the urine therapy article, this is a very low dose ("medium" doses are quoted as 10-20 mg/day).

So I don't see how the doses of these substances received via the urine could really be effective, and more to the point, I really don't see how they would be expected to cause the problems suggested, of adrenal cortex dysfunction and early aging.

I look forward to seeing your comments on this.

Regards, --PeterC.en 19:47, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:20note.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:20note.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 21:52, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

User page "vandalism" warning

Hi, I am messaging you regarding a recent edit. The anonymous user in question has two edits to user pages in their contributions; one of which is a perfectly good faith article comment, the other is the message left above. And while it can possibly be construed as a personal attack, I don't see that it is anything worth giving a warning about. Furthermore, the warning template you used was for userpage vandalism, not personal attacks. More appropriate templates might be {{uw-npa1}} or, in the case of user talk vandalism, {{uw-tpv1}}.

Also, just as a friendly reminder, the proper way to use user talk templates is by subst'ing them, and signing afterwards, like this: {{subst:template}} ~~~~.

I'm going to leave the warning as is for a couple of days, but if you don't reply I'll just remove it. No point in needlessly scaring off an anon.

Peace. —INTRIGUEBLUE (talk|contribs) 08:12, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Moved from my talk page, just to keep it together. —INTRIGUEBLUE (talk|contribs)
Hi there, thanks for your message regarding my use of the warning template. It was my mistake that I used the wrong type template. However, I must say that the anon's comment was quite offensive. I also thought I was using the template in good faith since I noticed that you already welcomed him to Wikipedia previously. In retropsect and looking back now, I'll remove the warning. Thanks again for noticing my oversight with this issue. Luke! 19:53, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Not a problem. Personally, I tend to err well on the side of WP:AGF when dealing with new users. However, you would be well justified in leaving a WP:NPA template. There is also no need to leave the comment on your talk page. I recently got at attack of my own [2] (my first) after reverting a piece of 6-month-old vandalism that had gone unnoticed in a popular article. I removed it, but on second thought I'm tempted to leave it as is as a badge of vandal-fighting honour.
If this is likewise your first, then congratulations! We must be doing something right. —INTRIGUEBLUE (talk|contribs) 20:15, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Image:Kwan,Michelle.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Kwan,Michelle.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Unspecified source for Image:Capcollegecourtyard.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Capcollegecourtyard.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:50, 29 January 2007 (UTC). I see that you have been changing the image sizes for the thumbnails on Queen's Road. Did you know that the unspecified thumbnail picture size is a user preference? If you go to My preferences, FIles, there is a thumbnail size drop down allowing a person to select their own preferred size of image in the articles. Su if you work from a big screen, you can pick 300px or from a little window, you can do 120px. GB 02:28, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Please

Please don't add the image of Easyfinder magazine article of photographic incident in Gillian article. I think we no need post that picture inside wikipedia. Also, the magazine already marked to be "Class II - indecent", that cannot publish to people under 18.

Moreover, that picture is really hurt Gillian.

So, please don't add that picture inside the article. Thanks! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Waiyee422 (talkcontribs) 09:36, 19 February 2007 (UTC).

In my personal opinion, I do not believe that the above reasons are valid for non-inclusion.
The picture has been properly referenced and licensed per Wikipedia guidelines. The picture is encyclopedic in value and adds to the quality of Wikipedia's content.
The rationale "that [the] picture really hurt Gillian" is not a valid reason. If the picture hurts Gillian, then assumingly so will the corresponding section about the incident - which remains. In Wikipedia, non-inclusion of content because it may hurt someone is a sign of a particular POV and contrary to the pillars of Wikipedia. Wikipedia is an un-biased project.
The premise that the magazine/picture in question is rated "Class II - indecent" by a Hong Kong organization does not detract it from not being included in Wikipedia. This is an international project where content is guided by and subject to notability and relevant community developed consensus decisions. If this was the case with other subjects currently made available in Wikipedia, then a lot of the articles should be the subject of deletion. However, that is not the case and is not the case here either.
It should be noted that the section and the picture in question fall in line with current notability guidelines for those of living people. Luke! 20:58, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Vancouver - protection

I saw your comment regarding the Vancouver article. Checking the page logs, it appears that the semi-protected status was applied with a time limit that automatically expired on the 18th. --Ckatzchatspy 01:18, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I should of checked the page logs. Luke! 01:23, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
No problem. I wonder if the "time-limited" protection is a new feature, as I've only noticed references to it in the past while. --Ckatzchatspy 03:13, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies

Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of [unassessed articles] tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod 21:15, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Assessment criteria

Just confused. After finishing the article, I thought Oxford Road, Hong Kong would be something between a Start or a B, but you gave a Stub. What are the reasons behind? --Deryck C. 12:17, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for catching this oversight. After taking a look again, it should indeed actually be a Start-class. I was assessing many WPHK road articles that session and probably confused it with another Hong Kong road stub. I will change the rating. Luke! 18:00, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you very much ^^ --Deryck C. 12:04, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Query regarding citation templates

I noticed you made an edit to the Telus article shortly after I added the fact template and added the month and year to it. It was the first time I actually added that template to any article, and I didnt read that it was common procedure to suffix the template with the month it was added in. Is this common procedure? And should I use this template again, should I do that? It doesnt seem to change anything in the display of the article however. Thanks. nrw 22:24, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Adding the month and year to the fact template is optional. Though it is not required, it does help in differentiating between those statements that have been recently tagged and those that haven't been. You can read up on the fact template here. Additionally, by adding the date to the sources template it automatically lists that page on the relevant Category:Articles with unsourced statements since February 2007 page where other editors will find this useful in the course of providing reliable sources. I hope this helps. Luke! 23:25, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
