From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your contributions to the coolest online encyclopedia I know of =). I sure hope you stick around; we're always in need of more people to create new articles and improve the ones we already have. You'll probably find it easiest to start with a tutorial of how the wikipedia works, and you can test stuff for yourself in the sandbox. When you're contributing, you'll probably find the manual of style to be helpful, and you'll also want to remember a couple important guidelines. First, write from a neutral point of view, second, be bold in editing pages, and third, use wikiquette. Those are probably the most important ones, and you can take a look at some others at the policies and guidelines page. You might also be interested in how to write a great article and possibly adding some images to your articles.

Be sure to get involved in the community – you can contact me at my talk page if you have any questions, and you can check out the village pump, where lots of wikipedians hang out and discuss things. If you're looking for something to do, check out the community portal. And whenever you ask a question or post something on a talk page, be sure to sign your name by typing ~~~~.

Again, welcome! It's great to have you. Happy editing! --Spangineer (háblame) 18:08, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

Hey, Voldie![edit]

So, you think I've left, huh? Yeah, right. Na-na-na-na-na-na! You'll never get me or Harry! Hermione1980 20:52, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Userpage corrections[edit]

Have we met on an article somewhere, or do the goofs on my userpage call out to you across the void?  :-) Joyous June 28, 2005 16:08 (UTC)

Ooooo, that is irritating. Sort of like when I try to revert a vandal, and the rollback fails because somebody named "Lord Voldemort" beat me to it. Over and over and over. Yeah, I understand the urge. Joyous June 28, 2005 16:22 (UTC)

Personal attacks[edit]

Personal attacks are not allowed on Wikipedia - see Wikipedia:No personal attacks. Could you please remove the personal attack from your user page? Thank you. Rhobite July 1, 2005 03:58 (UTC)

You better start cracking down all over Wikipedia. I see much worse all over the place. And I cannot help the truth. Hate to bring the truth into Wikipedia. Oh My! --Lord Voldemort 1 July 2005 14:08 (UTC)
Why do you feel the need to personally attack, oh Lord Voldemort? Especially since you did not even have a elementary understanding of what I was talking about on Condi Rice's talk page????------Keetoowah 6 July 2005 21:21 (UTC)
If you see someone calling another user an idiot or a moron, please let them know that personal attacks are not allowed. If they continue, follow the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution process. People who use personal attacks quickly find themselves blocked from editing Wikipedia. Rhobite July 9, 2005 15:30 (UTC)
Calling another user a "something or other" but linking to "moron" is a surreptitious personal attack. Denying that it is a personal attack is obnoxious and patronizing. Please don't replace the personal attack again. I may block you from editing if you continue to replace it. Rhobite 14:07, July 11, 2005 (UTC)

"Soapy"?[edit]

Um... Huh!? - IMSoP 3 July 2005 23:54 (UTC)

Wow! Y'know, I'd never thought of that pronunciation before! That's actually rather funny, I'll have to use it somehow ...
[In case you're wondering, the name was originally an acronym, the 'o' being lowercase because it's just for "of"; I tend to pronounce it as one word - IPA: ['ɪmsɒp]]
:D - IMSoP 4 July 2005 15:36 (UTC)

so...[edit]

what your saying is that if i was to call you some name, such as jerk or some such ( that was mention , not use) that you would not wish it removed from my page, even if it was my user page? ( i have no intention of doing any such t hing mind you) Gabrielsimon 6 July 2005 19:27 (UTC)

I am the Dark Lord... I have been called much worse. And you cannot just call someone something, that would be a personal attack (which are not allowed). I personally do not care if someone calls me something. I would just hope they wouldn't. And all I was saying is that you kept deleting his comments from your talk page with the reason that "it was yours." If so, Friday's page is his to do with as he pleases. --Lord Voldemort 6 July 2005 19:45 (UTC)

i didnt really want to out right call him annoying. and the annoyance persists with this little list of his. nothing to be done, it seems ( oh and to be clear the situation i descrbed abocve was a hypothetical, i have no intention of insulting you) Gabrielsimon 6 July 2005 19:48 (UTC)

He is allowed to have his list. There is no direct attack. And by the way, slander is spoken, libel would be written. Perhaps YOU should study the law more. Don't try to fight with me, because I will win. --Lord Voldemort 6 July 2005 19:51 (UTC)

some times i get confused between simmilar words... any hoop, what about this vandal of my page? the rodent image maker... any way to have that deleted? Gabrielsimon 6 July 2005 19:54 (UTC)

I don't know what to do about that. That isn't very nice though. I'll see what I can do. --Lord Voldemort 6 July 2005 20:03 (UTC)

Rhobite is an admin?!?![edit]

I know... it surprised me too. The following is an email I sent him. We'll see if he actually replies. Funny, you think an admin would have a cooler head. I feel admins should not flaunt their adminship. I don't know about you, but I want admins who can discuss things rationally before just blocking people willy-nilly. I will see you soon.

Umm... you shouldn't violate policy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Blocking_policy/Personal_attacks_%28old%29
Calling User:Gabrielsimon a bad speller is hardly a personal attack. I feel i did step over the line by calling you a "Homo," even though the link was to Homo sapien, and therefore valid. I do not feel I was over the line calling you "Obnoxious and arrogant," because you call me basically the same. I don't see you blocking yourself. I encourage you to act like a grown up and respond to this message. Just ignoring it is rude and childish. Thank you --Lord Voldemort

Rhobite a hypocrite?[edit]

Below is what Rhobite wrote on a page discussing blocking "personal attacks." Bold added for emphasis.

I'm slightly against removing personal attacks. There are too many instances of revert wars on talk pages. Also, people should not remove personal attacks that are directed against them - ask someone else. There are too many instances of people in a dispute editing each others' comments. Rhobite 18:21, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)

Is Rhobite a hypocrite? He warned me about a personal attack (which I admit I probably could have worded better). I removed it. I then probably crossed the line making a comment about him (I was just a little upset with him trying to muscle me... See above). He then removed those comments and blocked me for a reason which he never warned me. Hypocrite? I think so. --Lord Voldemort 17:06, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You called me a "homo" and you called another user an "idiot". It is also misleading to say you "removed" the personal attack. You surreptitiously linked to "idiot". I feel my actions - in response to your childish name-calling - were justified. Feel free to start an RFC about me if you disagree. Please apologize and move on. I did respond to you via e-mail, and I'm responding here. Some of us do things during the day as opposed to obsessively reloading your talk page. How did you get unblocked BTW? Rhobite 02:17, July 12, 2005 (UTC)
One more thing to add, I was referring to talk pages in that remark that you quoted. I would not have removed your name-calling had it occurred on a talk page. The Wikipedia customs about editing talk pages are very different than those about editing articles and other pages, such as user pages. As far as I'm concerned, personal attacks in articles, user pages, and wikipedia namespace pages are fair targets for removal. Rhobite 03:51, July 12, 2005 (UTC)
First, I did not link it to idiot... I had it linked to moron, until you removed it. I then linked it to misspelling, and called him a horrible speller. Second, if someone is blocked, they can still edit their talk page... just not elsewhere. I will not apologize because I have done nothing wrong. Gabrielsimon and I are working on our problems, and we don't need you to help. Since I didn't put in the link to moron, you must have blocked me for the Homo thing. You gave me no warning for this, and there is no Wikipedia policy saying that you can block me for this. I understand "No Personal Attacks," but feel you should have just told me to remove it, or removed it yourself, telling me it wasn't okay. By trying to muscle people with your admin powers, you are forcing good editors away from Wikipedia. Look at my edits... what makes you think I am a troublemaker? Gabrielsimon and I have had our differences, but seem to be getting along just fine without your help. I don't intend to start an RFC, because we all know how that will turn out (an admin versus a relative newbie... yeah that sounds like it could go my way). See ya in a few hours, cool kid. --Lord Voldemort 12:55, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
As I explained to you in your e-mail, the arbitration committee is already overburdened and I don't believe it's worth bothering them over a couple silly personal attacks. I don't think you're a troublemaker, and if you stop using personal attacks you'll have no more problems from me. Rhobite 14:28, July 12, 2005 (UTC)

an RFC[edit]

you seem level headed, how about you read through te following link and pass judgement? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/DreamGuy-2 thanks! Gabrielsimon 01:57, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

WHY AM I STILL BLOCKED???[edit]

I should be able to edit now, but I can't. Why not??? --Lord Voldemort 15:12, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You must have changed IP addresses. It's fixed. Rhobite 15:15, July 12, 2005 (UTC)
Well thank you for your help. It seems to be working fine now. --Lord Voldemort 15:32, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fremont symbol[edit]

Hey, thanks for all the info. I was hoping that the symbol was just something common I didn't recognize, but it's been a bit of a stumper as it turns out. Unfortunately, it looks like according to my topo map that the marker is on private property, making the search a little more difficult.

The mention of it representing the letters TOLL made me think to check local brands (in retrospect it looks so much like a brand that I'm kicking myself for not recognizing it as one at first), so I'm going to make a trip to a library with some local brand books. I didn't know though that there is a Toll family, so that makes it a very strong possibility. If that doesn't pan out it sounds like Dan Straight would be a great contact.

I'll let you know what I come up with. --Laura Scudder | Talk 14:37, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, unfortunately the Toll family brand doesn't match the mystery symbol. I looked sporadically back to 1900 and couldn't find any matching brands. I think I'll email someone at the ski resort (since they probably own that private land) and see if they put it there. I'm very curious now; hopefully it's not something totally anticlimatic. --Laura Scudder | Talk 20:00, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

an idea[edit]

would it be fun, or would it be copyright violation to try signing the username to appear as "you know who" for your name? Gabrielsimon 21:54, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good bolding...[edit]

... if you have any experience with italics I might be able to find you a job... :) - Tεxτurε 22:02, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Do you offer benefits? Being a Dark Lord just isn't cutting it anymore. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 12:54, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I can understand. No retirement package or golden parachute. One minute you are lord and master of the dark forces and the next you are no longer among the living. Either the stepping stone of the next dark lord or some foolish do-gooder comes along and spoils the fun. However, I think you fall under the government's evil security program. (You know... that Evil Security Number they used to identify you at Dark Side Community College.) After retirement age (five years or so in the ground, I think) you get to come back as a zombie or flashback. Doesn't pay for groceries, but, hey... work is work. - Tεxτurε 14:45, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Dark Side Community College?" Is that some sort of joke? I would like you to know that I attended Dark Side University for two years (where I earned an accelerated Bachelor of Evils degree) before enrolling at Evil University Medical School where I got my Evil Doctorate, so have a little respect. DSCC is only for those not truly evil enough to make it into DSU. Maybe you're just jealous you couldn't get in... --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 15:01, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh? You should research your story so you get it right... I happen to know that Evil University doesn't even have a medical school. (Unless you count Frankenstein 101 - and most people consider that "knitting".) Likely, you just hung out there to get in good with the Evil of the Arts graduates so you could get some dates with the not-so-ghastly harpies. I, on the other hand, am a proud graduate of the Burt Ward Sidekick Undergraduate Program (Abbreviated: "Burt, W'SUP?"). I later attended Jimmy Olsen's School of Supporting Characters. Many in my class graduated with honors but somehow none of us stood out and there was no speaker at graduation... (I applied to the Kato Institute but couldn't pass the physical. - Not to be confused with Kato Kaelin who flunked out of the Burt Ward program.) - Tεxτurε 15:19, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Uh... I meant... uh... Evil College, er, Dark Lord Colle... oh, CRAP! You got me. Please don't tell anyone. I had to lie on my resume to get this gig, and I really don't feel like moving again. Help an evil brother out. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 15:32, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

From Talk:Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (film)[edit]

What apocalyptic imagery? The world doesn't end in Half-Blood Prince. Superm401 | Talk 21:28, July 23, 2005 (UTC)

No, but Snape reveals himself to be HBP and the war against Voldemort is going BAADDD!!!!--208.183.105.11 15:08, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Whoa, whoa, whoa... Firstly, it's Lord Voldemort to you. Secondly, it should be the war against Harry Potter. Better get that straight. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 20:01, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
That's odd. I don't remember any one making a Lord Voldemort series(I could be wrong). What does that tell us?...oh, maybe who's in the right...or it could be who wins...or both...Superm401 | Talk 21:50, July 25, 2005 (UTC)
Well, Harry probably will win. But he's such a weiner. Who actually likes that character? There is no meat there. Lord Voldemort is such a better character. But I'm resigned to the fact that the good characters will die, and the weak, dumb characters (here's looking at you, Hagrid) will live. But it ought to be a good fight. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 13:44, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not so sure about that. I would think the weiner would be the one who couldn't even kill a baby. Superm401 | Talk 16:31, July 26, 2005 (UTC)
I admit, Baby Killing 101 is the one class I failed at Dark Side University. I just could never get the hang of it. For more information check this out... --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 19:38, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Potter Wikicity[edit]

O Supreme Evil Dark Lord, might you consider joining the Harry Potter Wikicity? We currently lack an article about you and your intriguing evilness…perhaps you could remedy that.

Your servant, Hermione1980 18:57, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

While it is nice to see you finally coming around, why not just copy and paste everything from WikiPedia into the Harry Potter Wikicity? Everything is fair game right? --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 19:00, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Because, o evil nemesis, the two must not contain the same text because One) The wikilinks point to pointless subjects such as Great Britain. Belgium. Publishing. You get my drift. Two) No one in his right mind would read the same text twice, even if they're on different sites. (I guess you might read them ;) ) If you would like to help us complete the Wiki to find the unwritten prophecy, you might still be able to conquer Harry... or get some more Horcruces. ;) Chosen One 20:33, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but isn't the WP coverage of Harry Potter good enough? What more can we say on the other Wiki? --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 20:46, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It's not really the kind of material that's important, it's how it's stated that's important. Amd of course, some subtle theories might fit in nicely. :) I mean, who'd want to read the same text twice? I wouldn't. It would be just as good to move all the articles from here to HPWiki then delete the ones here. But it's not. At least, I don't think so. Chosen One 20:56, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well definitely not! WP needs HP. It would be boring here otherwise. It is a good getaway from all the politics and junk. Sometimes you gotta take a break from serious stuff and work on Sirius stuff. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 20:59, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Quite right! Say, why don't we make a bet - my Triwizard Tournament winnings, all my savings, a brand new Philosopher's Stone, and my very own Invisibility Cloak in exchange for four of your Horcuxes, your remarkably hideous Dark Mark, and your Death Eaters - that in a year, the HP Wiki will be even better than all the HP articles on En collected. Agreed? ;) Chosen One 21:20, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good bet. On this day in 364 days I am just going to destroy the HPWiki and then I win the bet. But who really needs your dumb junk when you have powers like mine? What powers you ask. I dunno, how bout the power of flight. Does that do anything for ya? That's levitation, Homes. Whoops, I forgot that I'm not Young, Nasty Man anymore. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 21:24, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Voldy, it ain't that simple. First, your power is nothing in my domain! (evil laugh) Second, the quality of my articles will be better, thanks to my new Slepl-Ckehicng Quills. And heck, you're right about the power of flight. I'd be the best darned fighter broompilot if only brooms would work against your all-powerful powers. Perhaps the dust could confound you - smoke broom, anyone? ;) C'mon, Tom, Riddle me some more, and when I become an admin, I'll Black you, Siriusly. Chosen One 22:26, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

you guys are forgetting the mind bullets. Gabrielsimon 22:36, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Severus Snape[edit]

Hi, I put the sock puppet warning on Snape's userpage as a lighthearted joke, after he nominated Albus Dumbledore on VfD. If it bothers you, feel free to remove it. I suspect the user was created for one purpose and is now inactive. --Doc (?) 00:11, 23 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

policey modification[edit]

the Otherkin article is one of a few who are special in that its not paticulkarly easy to come across infomration that isnt "origional research" as termed inthe policey, so i propose an exception, an article specific bending of the rules, because otherwise there wont really be an article, except sources that state that the otherkin believers are insaine.

I assure you, when you come marching in on October 31st, your name will be flying on the Main Page. Still waiting... Chosen One 20:05, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
And Malfoy can NOT come.

1 penny vs 2 cents[edit]

from your user page: Why is it that whenever you give someone a penny for their thoughts, they end up giving you their two cents? Sounds like a scam if I've ever heard one. Either that or a "Get-Rich Slow" program.

At current exchange rates it is a very-very-very slow way to get rich. As of 2005.07.28 10:49:43 UTC the mid market rates are £0.01 (GBP) = $0.0174459 (USD) so 2 US cents are worth more than 1 British penny. I don't know how this translates to purchasing power though. Thryduulf 10:53, 28 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
True, but if you just use American money, you double your money everytime. But that is still a "Get-Rich Really Slow" program. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 12:18, 28 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Something for Myself[edit]

Stolen from Danny-Boy's talk page[edit]

Hello! I'm Danny-Boy, an oceanographer of sorts. Feel free to say "hello" or leave any comments on my posts here.

I did, but you deleted my welcome. For future reference, some editors have issues with deleting things on talk pages. Was there a reason you deleted it? Just wondering. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 17:46, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not really. I figured it was a standard welcome message that you probably put on everyone's talk page, so served no purpose beyond supplying a bit of newbie information. If you take exception to this, then undo my changes: I really couldn't care less. Danny-Boy

Well it was just a general welcome, but it did contain useful information. I have no problem with you deleting it. I am only warning you that some editors don't like to see anything deleted on talk pages and may hold it against you in the future. It's not a big deal. And since you didn't like the cookie cutter welcome, how about this:
Welcome to Wikipedia! Your name inspires me to run through a meadow looking for little men in green (not to be confused with little green men). May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back. Sometimes when I hear your name sung, I get a little teary-eyed. (But don't tell anyone, it could ruin my evil image.)
Happy now? :) Cheers. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 13:59, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
