A note on 'Synonyms' in taxoboxes[edit]

Hello! Thanks for working to expand articles on birds and other biological subjects. I notice you've been adding alternate vernacular (common) names to the "synonyms" field of taxoboxes. This section should only include taxonomic synonyms, i.e. alternate scientific names now considered to refer to the same taxon (while Template:Taxobox#Synonyms does not explicitly omit vernacular names, the discussion there implies this, and conventional usage across Wikipedia supports the same). If space and common sense allow, alternative vernacular names might be mentioned in the article text if widely used by reliable sources, but minor variations in spelling, capitalization, or hyphenation (such as including both "Malabar Crested lark" and "Malabar Crested-lark") do not need individual mention, nor do vague, archaic, or rarely used colloquial names, although some may be plausible candidates for redirects. Cheers, --Animalparty! (talk) 01:59, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks --Animalparty!, I'll simplify my additions to the taxoboxes (retroactively as well) and keep common names in the main text. Loopy30 (talk) 02:08, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
