Hi. Would it be possible for you not to add the entire template everytime you want to inform me about an image being tagged? It would be sufficient if you just added a link to the image. Thanks.

Hi. I was going through Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2007 January 18 and saw your nomination of the above image. According to Commons:Template:PD-Norway, works published in Norway prior to 1900 are PD, regardless of when the author died. Can you clarify any other reason to believe that the image might still be subject to copyright? Thanks. --BigDT 04:56, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

External pictures with permission[edit]

What's the best way to incorporate pictures owned by someone else that i have obtained permission from? external link or upload to commons? or some other way?

leaves - Marmelad

The best way (assuming that you have a digital permission, is to upload the file (to Commons =P ) and enter correct license etc. Then in the permissions box you say that you've sent the permission to permissions@wikimedia.org. Then you send the permission to that address and give the name of the uploaded file. That way when the permission has been confiremd and archived an administrator shoul add a link to the permission form the image page
...and leaves (but green ones) /Lokal_Profil 20:01, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The images didn't specify a source which had released the images as free. Also several images were screenshots from movies, and nowhere was there any info about the movies being free from copyright. The free in Wikipedia The Free Encyclopedia means that all material used must be free. /Lokal_Profil 22:39, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Östhammars_kommunvapen.svg[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Östhammars_kommunvapen.svg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Butseriouslyfolks 06:04, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

State infoboxes[edit]

Is there a good reason for why the infobox for each state is not based on a template? A template would make the article "code" more legible and would make any future changes in apperances easier. For an exemple of quickly put together alternative see User:Lokal Profil/testmall./Lokal_Profil 19:56, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I dont think there is a good reason for that. Agree on using templates. Im now adding the name of the 3 senators by state.. if you are working on creating a template pls consider that im currently adding the name of the senators (and its policial party) in the templates. If you upload it under a different name then all you need to do is change the imagename in the article. While on the subject; I understand that it must have been hard creating these but imo the Gothenburg one doesn't look anything similar to the "real one". This is an encyclopedia, shouldn't the images depict the correct COA? --Krm500 01:25, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All CoAs are defined by ther blason i.e. a word description. As long as a rendition obeys the heraldic rules and the blasoning is is as "real" and "correct" as the one currently used by the municipality (lets call it the "official one").
It was never my intention to make a version which looked like the "official one" for the very simple reason that it wouldthen be a derivative work and as such be unfree./Lokal_Profil 16:43, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okey, I buy that, but does that image follow the blason? As far as I know the municipality has the lion in the wrong direction. --Krm500 21:48, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The image should follow the blasoning pretty well. It's true that the lion is in the "wrong" direction compared to the original blasoning but todays blasoning has been adapted to make the lion turned to the left (that is heraldically left i.e. right). /Lokal_Profil 22:13, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Translation[edit]

Alright, here we go. By the way, thanks for working on this! The subject of Russian time zones has been on my to-do list for, oh well, two years at least, and it'll be really nice if you happen to take care of it before I do :)

Please note that the law describes the borders using the terminology current as of December 1, 1991.

...
The border between the 7th and the 8th time zones goes along the 112°30' E meridian towards the coast of the Taymyr Peninsula, then along its eastern coast, around Bolshoy Begichev Island (from the west), towards the border between Krasnoyarsk Krai and Yakutia (Sakha) SSR. Then the border goes between Krasnoyarsk Krai and Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Irkutsk Oblast and Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Irkutsk Oblast and Chita Oblast, between Buryat SSR and Chita Oblast.

The border between the 8th and the 9th time zones goes along the 127°30' E meridian towards the delta of the Lena River, around its eastern coasts, along the coast of the Bykovsky Peninsula, then eastwards along the coast of Buor-Khaya Bay towards the border between Bulunsky and Ust-Yansky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR.

Then the border goes between Bulunsky and Ust-Yansky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Bulunsky and Verkhoyansky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Zhigansky and Verkhoyansky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Kobyaysky and Verkhoyansky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Kobyaysky and Tomponsky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Alexeyevsky and Tomponsky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Alexeyevsky and Ust-Maysky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Churapchinsky and Ust-Maysky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Amginsky and Ust-Maysky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Aldansky and Ust-Maysky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Aldansky District of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR and Khabarovsk Krai, between Amur Oblast and Khabarovsk Krai.

The border between the 9th and 10th time zones goes along the 142°30' E meridian towards the New Siberian Islands, then around them from the east, then towards the same meridian and along it due south to the Great Lyakhovsky Island. After going around this island from the east, the border goes southwards along the 142°30' E meridian to the southern coast of the Laptev Strait and then turns east towards the border between Ust-Yansky and Allaikhovsky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR.

Then the border goes between Ust-Yansky and Allaikhovsky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Ust-Yansky and Abyysky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Ust-Yansky and Momsky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Tomponsky and Momsky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Tomponsky and Oymyakonsky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Ust-Maysky and Oymyakonsky Districts of the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR, between Khabarovsk Krai and Magadan Oblast to the area of its Sea of Okhotsk access, after which it turns westwards and goes along the coast towards the 142°30' E meridian, then along this meridian due south to the northern point of the Sakhalin Island, turning around it from the west, then goes along the coast to the southern point of the island, thus including Sakhalin Oblast in the 10th time zone.

The border between the 10th and 11th time zones goes along the 157°30' E meridian towards the coast of the East Siberian Sea, then in the south-eastern direction along the coast of the East Siberian Sea towards the border between the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR and Magadan Oblast. Then the border goes between the Yakutia (Sakha) SSR and Chukotka Autonomous Okrug of Magadan Oblast, between Srednekansky District and Chukotka Autonomous Okrug of Magadan Oblast, between Severo-Evenkiysky District and Chukotka Autonomous Okrug of Magadan Oblast, between Severo-Evenkiysky District of Magadan Oblast and Kamchatka Oblast towards Penzhinskaya Bay, along the coast of the Taygonos Peninsula and Gizhiginskaya Bay towards the 157°30' E meridian, then along that meridian due south towards the Kamchatka Peninsula, then around it along its western coast, then towards Cape Lopatka, turning north-east and going towards the 157°30' E meridian and then along it southwards to the borders of the territorial waters of the Russian Federation.

Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 17:39, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Firstly wow, that is probably the moste detailed description I've seen =). I've followed the borders in the description and they mostly follow the ones I had. I've put the parts that have given me problems in bold.
  • The first problem is that on my Sakha Ulus map (Image:Sakha administrative divisions.PNG Zhigansky does not border Verkhoyansky instead it borders Eveno-Bytantaysky, I'm getting the impression that Eveno-Bytantaysky used to be part of Verkhoyansky which would put the border between Zhigansky and Eveno-Bytantaysky instead (in agreement with previous "guesswork"). But confirmation would be appreciated.
  • Figured out that Alexeyevsky was renamed Tattinsky but the above description does not specify which way around Ust-Aldanski the zone goes. I'm guessing the border goes to the east of Ust-Aldanski but any info about which ulus Ust-Aldanski was broken out of would be useful and should solve the problem. The description puts Alexeyevsky/Tattinsky in zone 7 rather then zone 8 (my previous "guess") which seems to disagree with [1]. Whether this is due to a later update or inacuracies in the map I don't know, do the amendments mention it? For now I'll trust the above description over the map.
  • The last problem is Sakhalin Island and hence Sakhalin Oblast. Every map I've seen puts Sakhalina Island in the 9th zone and splitting Sakhalina oblast in two zones. Could this be a later update? Might there be info on their homepage?
Lastly thanks again. Although only one ulus has been moved I now feel a lot more sure about the map. Once I get the last details (above) sorted I'll try to integrate my Sakha republic map with the Russia map and then upload it. By the way found a map illustrating Bykovsky Peninsula and Buor-Khaya Bay. /Lokal_Profil 20:50, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for not researching this more thoroughly before posting; I did indeed miss a few details and failed to disclose one very important caveat (more on that below). First of all, while the law claims to be using the administrative-territorial structure as of 12/1/91, it clearly uses older data.
  • Eveno-Bytantaysky District, for example, was split in 1989 from Zhigansky District; as you correctly assumed. How this affected the time zones, I don't know for sure (not without further research anyway), but I assume that since the law treats Zhigansky District as an entity within its old borders, then Eveno-Bytantaysky District should be in the same time zone with it. I'll see if I can find anything more definite, though.
  • Yes, Alexeyevsky was renamed Tattinsky in 1990. I don't know why Ust-Aldansky is skipped, though. It's been around since 1930, so that must have been an oversight. I would guess that the time zone border goes around it from the east (my gut feeling is that the law skips just one segment, not six, which it would if it went around Ust-Aldansky along its western borders).
  • The amendments to the law did not change anything in the passage I translated. I don't have the text of the amendments themselves, but I do have a copy of the law which has the affected passages marked. By the way, I couldn't make head or tails of this map you mentioned—did you superimpose it over a map which shows ulus borders in order to figure out in which time zone Tattinsky would lie? In any case, considering this, the source can hardly qualify as reliable; it seems to be a one-man project. I'd go with the law, warts and all :)
  • Finally, here is the main caveat (which also addresses your question regarding Sakhalin Oblast). The law I translated for you is meant to describe the time zones of Russia, but what it does not describe so well is the actual time observed by the federal subjects. Federal subjects may petition the federal government to amend what time is actually observed on their territories, but those petitions, even when granted, do not lead to any changes in this law. In other words, while the federal subjects are assigned to certain time zones, they may observe time different from that of the time zone they are assigned to. A bunch of federal subjects in the third time zone, for example, actually observe Moscow Time, several federal subjects observe Omsk Time even though they lie in a different time zone, and so on. In Sakhalin Oblast, the inhabitants of the Kuril Islands petitioned the authorities to allow them observing time which is one hour different from that observed by the rest of the Oblast (news). Now, whether this is the case for some of Sakha's uluses I don't know. Sakha's legislation, unfortunately, is by far the worst organized and worded of all Russian federal subjects except for maybe Chechnya. I'll certainly try to locate something, but I can't guarantee any success. I just hope this revelation won't deter you from creating your otherwise very useful and illustrative map. Best,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 23:57, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking of practical applications, here is the break-down of the Sakha uluses as used for the purposes of the Unified State Exam. According to this, 10th time zone includes Verkhoyansky, Tomponsky, Ust-Maysky, and Ust-Yansky Uluses, 11th time zone—Abyysky, Allaikhovsky, Verkhnekolymsky, Momsky, Nizhnekolymsky, Oymyakonsky, and Srednekolymsky Uluses, and everything else belongs to the 9th time zone. The document is dated 2006.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 01:03, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Dammit... that places Eveno-Bytantaysky in 9+ rather then 10+ which means that I'll have to correct the map. Also now after all our work I found [2] which has the Sakha ulus but doesn't seem to be that sure about the rest. Anyhow there is a map now and I'll fix it for Eveno-Bytantaysky. Also I'll up a svg version of the final map of the time zones within the Sakha Republic. /Lokal_Profil 01:54, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The main map has been updated to take Eveno-Bytantaysky in 9+ into account, went quick actually. Also updated the (png) Sakha map. Once again many thanks =). /Lokal_Profil 02:10, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And I just realised I ended up puting the westernmost part of Sakha in Irkutsk TZ rather then Yakutsk.. oups... interesting how one can miss the most obvious things when tired =). Noticed it when I produced a new set of maps. /Lokal_Profil 19:08, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lokal, please can you take a look at the discussion on copyright at Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Cell membrane (diagrammatic) and tell me if you think this is worth pursuing. I only got the source warning when I uploaded using DerivativeFX. Dhatfield (talk) 11:54, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your edited version seems ok. You've correctly credited the original and it's author. The other editied image (Image:Cell membrane detailed diagram.svg) is however not ok since it doesn't mention which the original image was nor does it mention the users username (which although not necessary should probably be done). Apart from that the author thinks his edits are original enough to warrent a new copyright (GFDL instead of PD), I'd say that's a stretch but it's no biggie. BTW I'll update that image description so you'll have to look in the history to se what I was talking about./Lokal_Profil 23:42, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Got everything except the crown and Seraphim ribbon done. For the crown I'll have to bend the one I normally use so that should be added depending on how well it goes. New option for deleting images[edit]

Thanks for tagging imageslike Image:Isotropic_and_directed_percolation.png as {{PUI}}. I'd like to let you know that there is a quicker option for images like thatwhich claim to be released under a free license but have no verification. You can tag such images as {{subst:npd|quoted source}}, which doesn't require any follow-up listing and contains a warning template for the uploader. It also has a shorter waiting period than PUI. You might consider using this in future. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 20:02, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New logo?[edit]

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Lokal_Profil#Image:Nordic_Battlegroup_vapen.svg - SSJ  22:10, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NBG don't have a logo, they have a Coat of arms. The difference is that whilst a logo is graphically defined (and hence there is no free alternative) a Coat of arms is tdefined by it's blaszon, which in this case is I blått fält ett lejon av silver med röd beväring hållande i högra framtassen ett svärd och i en vänstra en olivkvist, allt av guld. Thus any (heraldically correct) representation of the blazon can be used as their coat of arms. This means that a free version can be created and that the unfree version doesn't qualify for fair use.
For similar cases see (almost) any of the articles about swedish municipalities or swedish military regiments. /Lokal_Profil 14:26, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The features on NATO's flag are probably also defined, yet the flag uploaded to wikipedia is copyrighted. IMO, having the precise, official, stylised image on English wikipedia is the ideal solution. Your desire to have a free version on Commons isn't obstructed by that. The difference between a coat of arms and a logo is not legally defined. - SSJ  14:39, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The difference is that a coat of arms is defined SOLELY defined by it's blasoning whereas NATOS flag is defined graphically (although it can be described in words). The problem with fair use images is that they stop being fair use as soon as there are free alternatives, which there (by definition) is for all western coat of arms. This particluar coat of arms was created by the swedish statsheraldikern [3] and he confirms that any interpretation which follows the blazon is correct. And he should know. /Lokal_Profil 16:22, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I accept that it's possible to make your own, free versions of loosely defined flags/logos/coats of arms. My point is that the ideal image to use is the original version. You can still use your image in other projects. - SSJ  21:39, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd still interpret the fair use restirctions as no longer applying once there is a free valid alternative. /Lokal_Profil 17:32, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Marriage Map[edit]

No, we got it taken care of :) CTJF83Talk 02:50, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually there is one problem (I mentioned this to Ctjf83). The East coast stripes don't match the west coast stripes. Image:Samesex marriage in USA.svg. The width of the stripes are unequal. Originally they were, but when Washington and Hawaii were destriped, for some reason California and Oregon were destriped and restriped at an incorrect width Thegreyanomaly (talk) 03:48, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I see a width difference. CTJF83Talk 21:34, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds odd since stripes should be predefined in the image code text. The 56kb images have removed that code so I guess I code go in and fix it but considering how often the map is updated it's not really worth it. Probably better to just recommend that any new maps are based on the code for say the "14:11, 8 August 2008" version. /Lokal_Profil 17:43, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Graphics Lab[edit]

Hi there- I'm a new(ish) user and I just had a quick question about the Graphic Lab. I know you've been removing some of the photos on the page and have been replacing them with File:Graphic Lab Copyright.svg. I'm not questioning your actions, just this kind of action in general - why is it necessary to replace it because it's on a project page, especially for an image that's getting IMPROVED? Maybe you can help me out. Thanks so much. Mononomic (talk) 21:49, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's because only articles are considered to be fair use for the images. Thus the bots automatically remove the images from the graphics lab when they come across them. Therefore when I see them I replace them with {{GLNF}} so that the link to the image remains. There were discussions about excluding the graphics lab from the replacing bots but the dissision was not to. Cheers /Lokal_Profil 01:34, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have been referred to you for your ability to create graphics. I was wondering if you could create something similar for the page on Obesity

http://www.fao.org/statistics/yearbook/vol_1_1/pdf/map07.pdf

This map list how many calories are consumed on average per person per day. I think it would be best if red were highest and yellow were lowest. Many thanks for the help.

--Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 17:10, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Will give it a try (following link is for my own benifit: raw info). /Lokal_Profil 18:50, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks. Hope to one day get this article up to FA status. Lots of work to do though. --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 23:37, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This ok? Colours etc can easily be changed. Any feedback is appreciated since I'll probably generate maps of the remaining data (energy/protein/fat consumptions for 1979-1981, 1989-1991 and 2001-2003). /Lokal_Profil 01:32, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Great job. Will add it into the page on obesity on Monday. Thanks again. Started this page which I will also add it to. Dietary energy supply Cheers --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 17:22, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have added them to dietary energy supply and to the obesity page. Many Thanks.--Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:15, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Another image[edit]

There is a further image I was wondering if you were interested in making. It would be great to have a map of world obesity prevalence in adults. Here is the data set. http://www.iotf.org/database/documents/GlobalPrevalenceofAdultObesity16thDecember08.pdf If interested start just obesity (combined). There does however seem to be more info for men and women separately. Thanks again. --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:19, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Would be great to do children at some time too. http://www.iotf.org/database/documents/ChildhoodOverweightOctober08pdf.pdf --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:20, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could do that one but is it worth it? The combined info doesn't seem to be available for very many countries. If you still want it then for which age category would this be? /Lokal_Profil 19:24, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The WHO page gives some examples. There seems to be more data for when divided by gender. http://www.who.int/bmi/index.jsp --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:31, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can't get that page to work. /Lokal_Profil 16:24, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This site has more data than the WHO site. If we could turn this into a global map I think that would be great. http://www.iotf.org/database/documents/GlobalPrevalenceofAdultObesity16thDecember08.pdf

Okay have found an example of the IOFT data in map form. It is on page 18 and is divided in male and female. http://www.iaso.org/docs/pdf/review2003.pdf The quality unfortunately is not the best.--Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 08:03, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try and turn the data in the www.iotf.org pdf file into a map. Main problem right now is that since it's in a pdf file I can't easily access the data (i.e. I can't just copy paste it into Excel). If you can find the data in text format (i.e. text or excel or similar) or if you can transfer the data from the pdf to an excel (or similar) spreadsheet then I should be able to create the map. If you want to send me files then use the "E-mail this user" button in the toolbox. This should give me you're e-mail address and I can then reply with mine. /Lokal_Profil 14:50, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Did you get the email with the data in doc format? --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 00:25, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Voila. /Lokal_Profil 00:27, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Man you are good. Many thanks.--Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 18:44, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Once the data is in a spreadsheet it's all easy. /Lokal_Profil 18:51, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Landskrona full arms
Svenska Vapenkollegiet

Hej! Thanks for the new Helsingborg arms. The sampling of kommunvapen still bugs me. On the one hand, we don't want to make it too listy, and on the other hand, there are so many old city arms that are quite notable to Swedish heraldry, so it's hard for me to decide exactly what to include. I've added a proposal for comment on the talk page, and I would value your input on the matter. Thanks again for all your past hard work. Wilhelm_meis (talk) 04:26, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you make an image of the Svenska Vapenkollegiets vapen? I would like to include more information about heralds and officers of arms in Sweden. Wilhelm_meis (talk) 02:46, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's currently lacking an official blazon (which I need in order to make it distinct copyrightwise). I've asked for it though so it should be sorted. I'll leave a message here when I get more info. /Lokal_Profil 22:07, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the follow up. Also, I was looking into the arms of Härryda Municipality, and I understand from this page that there are still two more municipalities without arms, or do I misunderstand? I wonder if there is a definitive list somewhere, but I have not found one yet. I think the navigability of the Swedish Heraldry Society web site leaves something to be desired. Thanks! Wilhelm_meis (talk) 22:32, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder if you would be interested in creating a free-use vector image of the arms of Landskrona including the crown and supporters as provided in the official blazon, and the arms of Malmö including the helmet and crest as provided in the blazon. Thanks again for all your help! Wilhelm_meis (talk) 05:16, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Malmö already exists as File:Malmö fulla vapen.svg. Same case goes for Halmstad which has the full CoA as File:Halmstad stora vapen.svg. As for Landskrona the shield already exists as File:Landskrona vapen.svg. The crown could easily be done but I haven't found any images good enough to use as supporters yet.
As for the Härryda text. At the time that a CoA was suggested another two municipalities lacked arms but since then they have gotten some. A few municipalities have however taken arms which violate heraldic rules but since they got PRV to accept them (against the recommendation of the Riksheraldiker) they still count. /Lokal_Profil 15:05, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Because I'm sad and have nothing better to do I couldn't stop thinking about this.... here it is. =) /Lokal_Profil 20:19, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
BTW. The blazon of Svenska Vapenkollegiet is now online so I'll give it a go. /Lokal_Profil 21:11, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The Pursuivant's Barnstar
Your graphic support to this and other heraldry-related articles has been invaluable. It is my privilege and my honor to bestow this, my first given barnstar, which I created especially in recognition of your efforts in support of the Heraldry and vexillology project. Wilhelm_meis (talk) 00:20, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks. Many thanks also for pushing me to try the Landskrona CoA which I've been putting of for years. Also finished the SVK arms. /Lokal_Profil 13:39, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alas! It seems I have redoubled the work of User:Ipankonin, who created just such a barnstar 9 December 2007 - the same day he uploaded the image. No wonder that image seemed perfectly suited for a heraldry barnstar! And here I thought I had done something original. But, it seems that you are still the first recipient of any heraldry barnstar, that I can find. Wilhelm_meis (talk) 21:05, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to recruit your help, since I know you have access to heraldry information in Sweden and you read Swedish better than I do. I am looking for information about Mullsjö kommunvapnet. I would like to discuss the arms at Swedish heraldry#Municipal heraldry, but I cannot find a reliable source. Even http://www.mullsjo.se/ does not have any information that I can find. Do you know where to find a good source for this? Wilhelm_meis (talk) 23:51, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will pull some strings and see what falls out of the trees. /Lokal_Profil 22:28, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clara Nevéus - Ny svensk vapenbok ISBN 91-7886-092-X seems to be the source for the statement. /Lokal_Profil 13:36, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The statement "Vapenbilden föreslogs på 1970-talet av kommunens fritidsnämnd, för att marknadsföra kommunen som vintersportcentrum"' that is. /Lokal_Profil 13:38, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"The coat of arms was proposed in the 1970s by the municipality's recreation committee, to market the municipality as a winter sports center." That is all that is said about it? I also got from SHF Database: "Vapnet är nykomponerat för kommunen och anknyter till Mullsjö som vintersportort samt traktens natur." "The arms are newly composed for the municipality and portray Mullsjö as a resort for winter sports and nature in the region." I also see that the arms were registered in 1977 and are blazoned: Azure, a snow crystal argent beneath a spruce-top chief of the same. ("I blå sköld en iskristall av silver och däröver en medelst grantoppskura bildad ginstam av silver.") I suppose that's about all that needs to be said, really. I also see that Mullsjö is not a city, so I think it should be listed with Oxelösund and Stenungsund. It seems it is actually a rather good example of newly formed arms with no historical basis. On the subject, I don't suppose you would know anything about the history of depicting snow in heraldry (how far back charges like the snow crystal go)? It's just something that came up while working on Charge (heraldry) and now it's got me curious. I imagine the first instances of such charges in heraldry may well have been Swedish, Finnish or Russian. Anyway, thanks again for the info. Wilhelm_meis (talk) 15:59, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the delayed reply. I actually don't know much about heraldry. Started doing CoAs for Wikipedia and sort of picked stuff up from there. Most of the additional info I get from this forum (also has an english speaking part). So although I can't help you on this I'm sure someone there can =) /Lokal_Profil 20:37, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Quick DyceBot question[edit]

DyceBot does not require the resolved tag to be dated. It archives three days after the most recent timestamp in the entire section, whether there's one in the tag itself or not. It's probably best of course to sign and date the tag because it makes it clear who considered it resolved and when, but it's not really necessary to date someone else's tag.--Dycedarg ж 23:18, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clickable map of the distribution of the Greece runestones in southern Sweden (modern administrative borders and cities are shown)

Hej! I've noticed that you're a member of the Graphic Lab, so I have a request. The Greece runestones map is in need of major improvement. In an ideal world, it would have been in SVG, the runestone dots would be linked, the names on the map would have had different formatting and so on. Greece Runestones is currently an FAC, so every little helps. Are you interested? –Holt TC 14:56, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Would something like User:Lokal Profil/Testmall be ok? /Lokal_Profil 16:36, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I like it. A problem might arise with the compact cluster around Stockholm, which makes writing the runestone codes a bit hard. Maybe you could zoom in the image a bit? After all, the southernmost and westernmost stones are in the middle of the image, they could be a bit more in the outskirts. If you zoom in, then a small image in one corner showing the location of the cutout could be useful. Following my thoughts? I'll bring in Berig so that he can speak his mind.Holt (talk) 17:06, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Greece Runestones now contains all of the data. A cut out of Stockholm would be quite hard to do since I wouldn't be able to use the coordinates to place the dots any more. /Lokal_Profil 17:34, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking more of something in line with this, just more professional looking. Do you see what I mean? Zooming in on the image will give more space for red dots in the Stockholm area. Holt TC 18:01, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great work, Lokal Profil. If I may make one single request, it would be to use a map that shows the traditional provinces.--Berig (talk) 18:26, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The problem using any other map boils down to it being guesswork to decide where to place the dots. Although Landskap would be better to show there is currently not a single good SVG map with them on Commons. Also the map would have to be a equirectangular projection which makes it even harder. The same problem applies to a zoomed map. If we want all of the dots on the map and a zoomed in bit of the Stockholm area then by default the map wouldn't be the right projection and I wouldn't be able to use the coordinates to place the dots. /Lokal_Profil 00:10, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you could add the locations of Stockholm, and possibly Gothenburg (the identification of such places has been requested by a reviewer), I'll replace the old map with your vastly improved one.--Berig (talk) 15:37, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Added Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Gothenburg to the map with differently coloured markers. The map is currently set to be right aligned and 500px wide. The size can be changed but if it's made smaller there might be a need to change the marker and text sizes accordingly. /Lokal_Profil 20:27, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Very good work! Right aligned is good. I suppose 250–255px would be an ideal width. The markers are indeed a bit too big when the map is smaller. Holt (TC) 21:52, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just to be sure; is it not possible to render the map similarly to e.g. {{Australia Labelled Map}}? Maybe you could use the {{click}} template, which would give this: U 140 (hover/click). Just a suggestion, it would have been very handy. Holt (TC) 22:17, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Problem with all of the other overlay templates is that they don't support map marker placement using coordinate data. So instead I've now modified the Template:Location map~ to allow links so clicking on any of the map markers (of the runestones) brings you to the corresponding section of the article. Set the size to 300px since that seems to be the smallest it can go before it becomes impossible to either see the markers or to distinguish which is which in the Stockholm region. /Lokal_Profil 23:58, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am very impressed with your map, and I have now replaced the old one. Thanks!--Berig (talk) 08:26, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This is brilliant, thank you so much for your help. Holt (TC) 08:48, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PS, Sö 85 is missing on the map! Could you, please, add that one too?--Berig (talk) 09:17, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Added the last one and removed an accidentla duplicate. also sorted them by name so that it's easier to verify that they are all there. /Lokal_Profil 22:00, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! You have done a great job!--Berig (talk) 07:37, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template of southern Scandinavia[edit]

Hi Lokal Profil. I have tried several times to make a location map template like this out of this map of southern Scandinavia. Having seen that you are skilled at this, I wonder if you would like to make one. It is for the other runestone articles. Best,--Berig (talk) 12:13, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll givi it a try. Actually planned on doing something similar. Extracted the runedata into User:Lokal_Profil/kladd#runestone map info. I'll leave a message here when I fix the template. /Lokal_Profil 16:44, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks!--Berig (talk) 18:25, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done. It must be created in the template namepage in order to work (which is why it looks weird in the user namespace). The template is here. Think the old map works better though (with the exception of the page with runestones outside it), as a comparison see User:Lokal Profil/Testmall and Template:Ingvar Runestones. /Lokal_Profil 20:01, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The articles that definitely need the new map are the Viking, England and Varangian articles. /Lokal_Profil 20:34, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Lokal Profil! You are great at this!--Berig (talk) 09:21, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
PS, judging from User:Lokal Profil/Testmall I think that the coordinates need to be tweaked a bit here. The dots are too much to the east.--Berig (talk) 09:27, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've based the setting s on the info on File:South-West Scandinavia location map.svg. I'll recalculate them and se if it makes a difference. /Lokal_Profil 17:19, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For highly impressive skills and work at making interactive maps, as well as for general helpfulness and kindness, I hereby award you the mapmaker's barnstar.--Berig (talk) 17:30, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks =). Was working on Template:England Runestones but couldn't find the coordinates for DR 6 and N 184 which I see that you've added to File:England runestones.jpg just wondering where this info can be found. Also DR 337 appears to be very different (both current and original location). /Lokal_Profil 02:23, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
When I made the old maps, I was limited to the older Rundata 2.0, where there were no map links. I had to find the locations by using www.lantmateriet.se and other online map providers. The old map was intended to point out DR 337's present location in Lund. As for DR 6 and N 184, I think it should be sufficient to find the coordinates of their general locations with online map providers since the size of the map renders exact coordinates unnecessary.--Berig (talk) 11:43, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Final result looks good. /Lokal_Profil 17:05, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A clippath mismatch[edit]

New code basis

Hi. On a marriage map a certain code in the SVG file has been causing some problems with users of Adobe Illustrator, but not in Inkscape and other editors. It is a clipping path, one by an amateur editor out of a recent update and the only one not crafted by yourself, and while looking the same in some respects, is quite different in its code. Can you tell what the problem/difference is, and make a proper clipping path for that Colorado (id=CO) if it is any different? Fortuynist (talk) 22:24, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken a look at the CO clipping code and at a first glance it looks ok. Haven't got Illustrator on the laptop so I'll need to wait until I get home in order to see what the problem was. You said it "is quite different in its code" how exactly did you mean? Also could you describe what the AI problem looks like. Cheers, always nice when a map gets well used =)/Lokal_Profil 19:46, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Superficially, the clippath is different than the others in that Illustrator will load and apply the others, like California, in the correct place but at Colorado it stops. Actually, it could be how it's used, not the actual path, depending on what Illustrator does (I do not know). User:Newsboy85, the one to report this, did take a screenshot of this which he posted on the talk page of the image.[4] Fortuynist (talk) 20:11, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Code has now been reworked to make all the states striped. Hopefully this will also fix the Illustrator issue (created the new map on the laptop so haven't been able to check it in Illustrator). /Lokal_Profil 23:17, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! Whatever the oracles at Adobe think of this new file, it does fix a longstanding grievance with the map, which was that it was very editable by text, except for the creation of new stripes, which is not an issue now. Fortuynist (talk) 01:26, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I modified the code for this map to make it more human-readable. Could you please tell me what program you use to edit vector files? It seems to force carriage returns to mutate into some strange null-space character, and it makes the whole thing very hard to read and edit.

Also, I fixed what appeared to be an irregularity. Seems the code at the end of each clippath ought to include the letter z at the end of the coordinates, followed by the quotation mark to close the parameter, and then the code to close the tag — all together, like so: z"/>. In some clippaths, the letter z was missing, so I inserted it. I haven't taken a close enough look at the situation, but maybe this is why Illustrator can't deal with the picture. Could you (or someone else) please check if it displays properly in that program now? — Athelwulf [T]/[C] 08:18, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I find it easier to read with less white space but I guess that's down to preference. I just use a plain text editor (TextPad) so if the carriage returns look odd it might be your reader that's doing it, which program do you use for it?
I'll try Illustrator on this when I get home, might very well be the z's (or lack thereof) that did it. /Lokal_Profil 23:44, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Map assistance[edit]

If you are not interested, I completely understand, but I noticed your name on both Image:Map-of-US-state-cannabis-laws.svg and Image:Samesex_marriage_in_USA.svg discussions so I thought you might be familiar with maps enough to help (again, if interested). Essentially, Map-of-US-state-cannabis-laws.svg needs to be updated, but I am having difficulty doing so. Not only do states need to be updated, but I was thinking a light green/medium green/dark green color code would be better than the arbitrary colors currently used on the map. If you are able to help, feel free to let me know so I can offer more details, otherwise, best wishes! --Another Believer (Talk) 22:38, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't mind updating the map. Just tell me what updates are needed and a source supporting the change (so that I can put it in the edit comment).
As for colour changes. These are easily done, but since the image is used on several wikis in different languages doing such a change would also require updating the image descriptions in each of these. If I remember correctly the colours have also been chosen so that they are easily distinguishable. Anyhow I'll repair the file straight away, latest edits seem to have broen it slightly. If you send me the updates then I'll fix them and I'll also drop you a description for how this is done if you are interested. /Lokal_Profil 23:27, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for your offer to assist. I just posted information about what needs to be updated here (the file's talk page). I understand what you mean about the colors, but they just seem so arbitrary, and I feel the shades of green shows trends and reflects that the darker the shade, the more "cannabis-friendly" the state is in terms of legislation. I tried working on a map, which had 3 clear, distinct shades of green, but the program was too difficult to use and I am not used to uploading images here on WP. If you could help, the talk page linked to above shows which states should be which shades. This information is based on information presented at NORML - State by State Laws. This NORML link provides a detailed list of states with active marijuana programs. Also, it is essentially taking this template and turning it into picture form. I hope this helps! Again, THANK YOU so much for your offer to help, and please let me know if there is anything else I can do or questions to answer. I will try to remember to check back here often. Oh, and if the process isn't too difficult, I would love to know how to update the file in the future. --Another Believer (Talk) 01:23, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Left comments on the map update on the talk page. Anyway for the how-to. Firstly you will need to a) save the svg file to your computer. b) open it with a text editor. I'd recommend a simple program such as notepad/wordpad or similar. Avoid using complex programs such as Word since these tend to add a lot of junk code.
When you first open the file you will se a chunk of code which looks like:
	<style type="text/css">
		.medical { fill: #3399ff; } /* State with legal medical cannabis*/
.decrim { fill: #ff6666; } /* State with decriminalized cannabis possession laws */
.both { fill: #cc00cc; } /* State with both medical and decriminalization laws */
	</style>
This is the part that decides which colour is used for medical, decriminalisation etc. To change medical to pink say you just replace .medical { fill: #3399ff; } with .medical { fill: #ff1493; }. To find the (hex)code for the different colours I recommend the article about Web colours.
The second part you encounter will looks something like:
	<g fill="#d3d3d3">
		<path id="HI" class="medical" d="M 233.08751,519.30948 ..."/>
		<path id="AK" class="both" d="M 158.07671,453.67502 ..."/>
		<path id="FL" d="M 755.39728,445.50676..."/>
The fill="#d3d3d3" bit sets the default colour of the states. I.e. the colour used when there is no cannabis legislation.
Eatch state is described by one of the <path> lines and is identified by the two letter state abeviation. To change e.g. florida to "legal medical cannabis" you first find the line with id="FL" and then insert class="medical" between id="FL" and d="... (see HI and AK above). Similarly to change it to decriminalisation it's class="decrim" and for both it's class="both". To change a state to no legislation simply remove the class="..." bit.
If you have any other questions, or if something didn't make sense, just ask =) /Lokal_Profil 23:01, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This is exactly what I needed to know. Already playing with the map now. One more quick question. How would I upload the updated map for future changes? Clicking on the 'Edit' tab here or here doesn't seem to do the trick. --Another Believer (Talk) 00:20, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the delay. I see that you figured it out though =) /Lokal_Profil 23:36, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Canadian election maps[edit]

Hey, good job on continuing my maps, however I do have one concern... You should probably take a look at this map File:Canada_provinces_evolution_2.gif. As you can see, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec weren't at their fullest size until 1912, while the border with Newfoundland wasn't set as it is now until 1927. -- Earl Andrew - talk 22:14, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Avrocar and Ford Mustang 1 images[edit]

  • I own the rights to all the research material that was used in my book. I have released these rights to have illustrations reproduced. During the research phase of writing my book, I obtained the rights from all copyright holders through an exhaustive author/title search that was validated by the publishing house and documentary film company lawyers. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 04:45, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • Where the Dickins are you getting the meta data information on my own drawings and photographs? The drawing of the Ford Mustang is from a modeling project that was used to create a template for carving in wood. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 04:57, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No worries we'll get this sorted =). If the images are yours then the main thing to do now is to tag them so that this doesn't happen again. I even noticed that one of your images got deleted more then a year ago for exactly the same reason, no worries though I can undelete that one once we got the thing sorted.
Firstly for the "book page". Which of your books was it from and is the image a scan from the book or a scan of the original which went into the book?
As for the "Snowbound". The metadata can bee seen at e.g. File:Colour avrocar 59.jpg by going to the bottom of the page and clicking on "Show extended details". There you can see the text "Author 2001 SNOWBOUND, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED". The main thing to do now is to identify what Snowbound is so that an explanation can be added to the image pages. Firstly does the word "Snowbound" ring any bells? A publisher, software used or anything similar? Where did you get this version of the image from, is it the original file you got given for the book or a scanned in photograph or something different? /Lokal_Profil 23:46, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
After some browsing it looks as though Snowbound might be a software company. Did you use the program "RasterMaster" for the images? /Lokal_Profil 23:52, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This may end up being the graphic program (Adobe Photoshop CS) that was used at one time to create images, sharpen resolution, change from one format to another. I do own all my own images since I drew them for publication and others were from my book: Avrocar: Canada's Flying Saucer (Boston Mills Press, 2001) and subsequent film projects based on the book. When the media rights for film and television were being sold, our company lawyers had to conduct a title search in which all copyrights were obtained for original images, photographs and other material such as film stock to become my personal property for use in research and publication/dramatizations. The hand-drawn images revert to my earlier life as a graphic artist, but in most cases were re-scanned for digital use. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 00:39, 29 November 2009 (UTC).[reply]
I've updated the image description pages to clarify the situation (see e.g. File:Ford Mustang I drawing.jpg). For the images which you haven't drawn (or taken for photographs) it would be good if you mentioned this in the source and author fields, whilst still pointing out why you are the copyright owner in the permissions field. /Lokal_Profil 21:16, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Answer on my Commons talk page. /Lokal_Profil 23:48, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I would think it's unnecessary to have two versions on the same file. As mine is a little bit better compressed I suggest deleting yours. It's just as good as mine, but it's just confusing with doublets. What do you think? --Beao 09:00, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I prefer the font in mine (which is why I used it). As for compression the relevant difference between my plain text upload (in the version history) and yours is only 5kb. Making it clear that there exists two versions and then letting the reusers choose should be enough. I'll add a link between them in the "see also" field.
I'm more worried about the Oresund_tunnel images where the ideal version is probably a combination of the three existing vector images. /Lokal_Profil 22:24, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

{{PD-US-1923-abroad|out_of_copyright_in=YYYY}}[edit]

Hi, you recommended me to use the above template on en wiki for works not in public domain in country of creation but in public domain in US because they were created before 1923. But I see you flagged File:Heavy Brigade.jpg for deletion, on the grounds that Giles died in 1941 i.e. less than 70 years ago. But if this was published before 1923 it is PD in the US and hence can be uploaded to the en wiki. The work was painted in 1880 and presumably many editions were published before 1923 as this was prime British Empire stuff. So I don't understand why it should be deleted. Does the above template only apply to US artists ?? Rod. Rcbutcher (talk) 05:08, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I probably just tagged the image because it was falsly/misstakenly tagged with PD-old. I'm not sure exactly when PD-US-1923 can be applied so I can't really help you with that. I just suggested the template above because it was a more accurate subtemplate of PD-US-1923 which the images were already tagged with.
After having read point 6 on {{PD-US}} I'm quite sure PD-US-1923-abroad shold be an ok license for the Heavy Brigade. If you post a comment on the deleting admins talk page he might undelete it or at least explain why he believes it doesn't apply. /Lokal_Profil 11:39, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Vi kan ta det på svenska eftersom det är ditt modersmål:

Du har börjat lägga in "Coat of Arms" i artiklar om svenska tätorter (localities). Det är lite tveksamt. Det handlar här om kommunala symboler. Tätorterna har inte egna vapen. --Muniswede (talk) 21:02, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jag ersatte enbart de pngversioner som redan fanns där med svg originalet. Vapnen lades in av User:Hajvalia för ungefär ett år sedan. Men för alla utom möjligen de stader som haft stadsvapen sa borde de nog plockas bort. /Lokal_Profil 00:10, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to use your SVG of the Bohuslän vapen - correctly attributing the work - with a Bohuslän article in this year's "God Jul" (Austrian-Swedish Association's xmas magazine). But this "share alike" restriction seems a little confusing to me: Would that mean this certain article or the whole 100 pages of the magazine would have to be lincensed under the same conditions (CC-SA) which most likely would not allow me using your graphic?
