April 2008[edit]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently copied the contents of a page and pasted it into another with a different name. Specifically, you copied the contents of Viluppuram (city). This is what we call a "cut and paste move", and it is very undesirable because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. The mechanism we use for renaming an article is to move it to a new name which both preserves the page's history and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. In most cases, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself by this process, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves to request the move by another. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. If you need help moving this article, please feel free to write to my on my talk page. Thanks! (EhJJ)TALK 00:04, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for replying on my talk page. I've had a read through Wikipedia's naming convention for places. It sounds to me as though we should perhaps rename the article as Viluppuram, Tamil Nadu. This would make it similar to the various "Washington"s (both in the US and outside of the US) as here: Washington (disambiguation). What do you think? I am not familiar with Indian geography. Would this be an appropriate way to refer to this town? (EhJJ)TALK 04:01, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

S. Kumarasamy[edit]

The article is a good start. I would suggest listing the article at Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Peer review and Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Peer review pages to receive suggestions for further improvement. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 01:37, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review edits[edit]

Hi, while adding the S. Kumarasamy article in the WikiProject India Peer Review, you have mistakenly removed previous ones. Could you please revert your change and re-add? Salilb (talk) 15:28, 21 May 2008 (UTC) I have reverted your change. You'll need to re-add. Pls be careful not to remove the list of peer reviewers. Salilb (talk) 15:34, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:New images for Ashok Nagar, Chennai and neighbouring areas[edit]

Great..Thanks for asking. Here is what you do:

To upload pictures
  1. If you have not done it yet, consider making your account a global account. Goto My Preferences...and select Manage Global Account. This way you don't have to create accounts in each Wikimedia website.
  2. Once you complete step 1, you can login into Commons with the same account.
  3. Upload your pictures to Commons. Commons is a media central repository for all Wikimedia websites (including English Wikipedia). Your pictures can be easily used across all language Wikipedias.
Use Notepad to create the following,
    #:== Summary ==
    #:
    #:
    #:== Licensing ==
    #:GFDL
    #:
    #:
    #:

  4. On the upload form, you will select, "entirely my own work".
  5. Select your image file. Upload as is (whatever the size of the picture may be).
  6. Copy-paste the content from Notepad into description field of the upload form. Select a source file name and leave the rest of the fields blank.
  7. And then click Upload file. (The Notepad option was a suggestion, you can upload the image by manually entering the data on the upload form as well)
  8. Create the red-link category under Category:Chennai on Commons.
Other notes
  1. If are looking to upload pictures of Chennai, this map may be helpful. It is feature that picks up coordinates from articles where images are needed and put them on a Google map.
  2. If you are techy and have a lot of pictures to upload, you can use this Perl script. If not, just upload one at a time. Just copy paste the notepad content for each picture, and make required changes (if any).

Please feel free to ask me any questions. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 01:53, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, if I remember correctly, I originally included Vallalar in Vellalar (disambiguation) because I found that another editor had mis-spelled one word intending the other. There is certainly no harm in keeping the disambiguation entry. I recommend that the hatnote on Vallalar be reinstated; was it offensive in any way? - Fayenatic (talk) 17:57, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. This is what I'll do -- if I find another instance of people typing Vallalar meaning Vellalar, then I will reinstate the hatnote, but otherwise I'll leave the article without it. - Fayenatic (talk) 18:12, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Arutprakasa Vallalar Chidambaram Ramalinga Swamigal[edit]

I did a history merge of this article with Vadalur Vallalar. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 23:00, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyediting request[edit]

Hi. Would you be interested in copyediting the Insane Clown Posse article? (Ibaranoff24 (talk) 20:01, 16 June 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Can you help?[edit]

I see you were listed as a participant in the League of Copy-Editors so it seems likely. The thing is the Military history wikiproject urgently needs prose pros to help with our best articles. In Milhist, A-Class has become the last port of call before FAC and we are looking for people to help identify prose and MoS issues at A-Class A-Class Reviews and help fix them prior to featured article candidacy. We also have a copy-editing section in our Logistics Dept and that can always use experienced copy-editors. For most of our articles, you don't need to be a specialist in the subject matter, just good with words.

If you think you can help, please do! Thanks for your time, --ROGER DAVIES talk 03:37, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re:Christ Church Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School[edit]

It looks great...with a picture on it, nice sections that explain history and what the school does. It is a perfect candidate for WP:DYK. Please submit to it and have it show up on the home page. Aside from that, I went to WP:FA and got an example FA article, Stuyvesant High School. That should give you ideas on how to improve the Indian one. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 03:47, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

One more example, Plano Senior High School. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 03:51, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Saraswathi Vidyalaya.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Saraswathi Vidyalaya.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 16:27, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Replaceable fair use File:S. Kumarasamy.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:S. Kumarasamy.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:06, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
