Nomination of Eugene Castelle for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Eugene Castelle is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eugene Castelle until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. --Vic49 (talk) 21:14, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I noted your userpage comments on questionable bilateral relations. Therefore, when I saw the above-named new page, I figured you'd be the right person to whom I should direct the article for attention. Some of the stated connections between Finland and Israel seem a bit tenuous to me but I think the article deserves a more qualified set of eyes. Thank you and let me know what you think. Tagging

Hi there. I've noticed a couple of times when going to close AfDs that, in cases where multiple articles have been nominated in a single nomination, not all of the articles have been tagged for AfD. Can you make sure in the future that all articles involved in a nomination are tagged? Thanks. :) The Bushranger One ping only 00:26, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

sure, thanks for letting me know. LibStar (talk) 01:07, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
  • All snarking aside, I think I've found enough sourcing to merit withdrawal of this nom, please take a look.[1]. The middle name is actually "Adrain" not "Adrian" (which more recent sources unfortunately use), which led to more sourcing including the National cyclopædia of American biography. --Milowenthasspoken 19:04, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Sarcasm

I don't really think that posting sarcastic comments and barnstars on User talk:Richard Arthur Norton (1958- )'s talk page is a productive approach. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:21, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi

Hi Libstar. I know you and I might not look eye to eye on everything but could you take a look at the Anna Lundh article. And see if it needs to be put up for AfD as I am unsure. Also I agree with you that I should have stated Guatemala instead on Argentina ofcourse, and I hope we can move on and I will definitly take your advice more to heart now. Even though we will probably not agree on every single AfD. Cheers.--BabbaQ (talk) 16:25, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi Libstar. Miri Permy Mall is just Opened. I've edited the Shopping section. About the climate section do not change them or undo them. Those section should be remain unchanged. These information I got from weather website and Weather Station based in Miri. I have provided the information but I don't know how to put them on References but it's on the climate section.

My reading of the AfD was that two established contributors (and one IP with no history) had reviewed the sources and found them sufficient. While the rebuttals were reasonable they did not manage to convince any of the editors who opined for keep. I have not performed my own analysis of the sources and don't have my own opinion on the matter. I made an effort to ignore the irrelevant issues surrounding his more controversial positions. While we certainly don't delete articles on people or movements because we find them stupid, offensive, or controversial, we should also avoid the opposite error of keeping poorly sourced articles on such topics out of a concern to avoid censorship. IMHO, we might transwiki some of the pages we've been deleting previously to Edge MMA. CSD question

I see the CSD you added to Guar Chempedak but you did not indicate the source. Also, noting that this article has been around since 2007, did you confirm that it wasn't a reverse copyvio?--SPhilbrick(Talk) 13:57, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

I came to your page to comment on this as well. G12 deletes are for obvious cases and without a source, or at least a good explanation of why it's a copyvio, it's not appropriate to G12 tag it. I'd also note that particular example was not a valid G12 as, although the current text may well be a copyright violation, there are versions in the history that would not be. Can I suggest you read / re-read the criteria at WP:G12. I looked for but could not find a source so in this instance I made an editorial decision (nothing to do with the possible copyvio) to remove the text in question as it would need a major re-write to become encyclopaedic. PDXLAN

Hey, we at pdxlan (www.pdxlan.com) are working on getting that article up to snuff (it started as someones college project), however the LAN itself has existed for a decade or so. As you recommended it for deletion I just wanted to understand why. It's a major LAN event (the largest in the northwest US), happens 2-3 times a year, and has gotten media coverage in the past (though I can't personally locate any clips at the moment).

What can I do to make it more "notable"? I don't have an account so i'll check the PDXLAN page later.

article: Kazantip

Hello LibStar,

several months ago I edited the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazantip and you provided me your help and support.

Now I see that this commercial company Kazantip GmbH is still trying to put there their advertisement.

They are organising a small festival in Portugal that has nothing to do with the original event except the name.

Sure, I can check the article every day and remove their misleading links.

But maybe it's time to protect that article, as I suggest even much more activity from them within next months.

Tell me what you think and what we can do.

Thank you anyways.

Kind regards,

Blackburn

I think that the bit about the council running a legal Gypsy site at Ewood should have been left in the article as it is a notable fact about the town. IMO you have done a fair bit of chopping and you should really seek the opinions of other users before making such sweeping changes. Most of what you deleted needed to go, but the Gypsy bit needs to be put back in. Markdarrly (talk) 09:19, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

large sections of irrelevance not found on town articles should not appear. This does not require consultation, anyone can edit WP. Similarly changes can be reversed. LibStar (talk) 10:08, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
I didnt know that anyone can edit WP, thanks for pointing that out. IMO before a "Cull" of the article is carried out, a consensus should be sought as to the extent of the "Cull". Its called respecting the article and not just running over it with size 9s. Just to say that edits can be reverted makes the edits that you did a waste of time. If people agree on the extent of chopping, less edit warring would happen. Markdarrly (talk) 14:01, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
Hi Libstar. In view of your comment "large sections of irrelevance not found on town articles should not appear", can I draw your attention to the guidance offered here, which is something I've also mentioned in the section below. If we try to adhere to the guidance at that project article, with respect to articles at UK settlements, it should reduce the potential for conflict. Kind regards. Beejaypii (talk) 15:04, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Blackburn - Demography

Hi Libstar. You recently removed information from the Demography section of the Blackburn article with this edit. You may be unaware of this, but there is a project guideline for articles about UK settlements on Wikipedia. In the demography section it recommends the following for potential inclusion:

  • Current population and where the figure is taken from.
  • The ethnic composition.
  • The religious composition.
  • Economic activity of the population.
  • The population change over the last century.
  • A note on social class (strictly where citation allows).
  • Consider including a statistic comparison table.

The information you removed, which I've now restored, is fully referenced and pertains to the economic activity and social class of the population, and its ethnic composition.

Assuming you weren't already aware of it, I hope you'll find the UK settlements guide useful. The Blackburn article was extensively developed a few years ago and largely complies with the advice given there. Beejaypii (talk) 14:58, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

27/12/12 - Criticism Paragraph for Young Liberals (Australia) article

Hello,

I thank you for your interest in this Wikipedia page. I am however concerned about your insistence on the inclusion of what I deem inaccurate/irrelevant material to a section that is highly spurious.

Please see the talk page for the article in question as I am interested in hearing your opinions for its development into the future. Let me be clear, however, in my intention to comprehensively address through escalation the bias in Australian Wikipedia articles and your editing practices particularly with regard to your historical activity on the Young Liberals (Australia) page.

I trust that we will work together to ensure that bias is removed and the integrity of Wikipedia is maintained. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Veritas80 (talkcontribs) 03:49, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi LibStar, I was surprised to see a {{notability}} tag on Ken Williams (game developer). Lib, you should add an extra indent to your replies so they do not blend in with the above comments. For example:

  • Keep – The topic has received enough significant coverage in reliable sources to pass WP:N, section WP:GNG. Examples include, but are not limited to (some are non-English): [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], [11] (the last one is a short article). Northamerica1000(talk) 11:09, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
whilst sources found are welcome, most of this coverage is routine.this is a passing mention about helping countries "such as colombia", and a few of these sources are based on a 1994 visit by the Colombian deputy agriculture minister. coverage is sporadic and not about an indepth relationship. Disambiguation link notification for January 28

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Laos–Thailand relations, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Champassak (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

AN/I on Norton

Just in case you missed it in the growing thread, I note my comment there: "LibStar, you might want to make yourself a party to Fram's ArbCom case, since I am sure the relationship between you and he [Norton] at Articles for Deletion will be something that comes up during the process of their collection of evidence and that your activity here has made you a directly involved party. —Carrite." Appears you're being stalked

Hi Lib. I discovered something rather strange when going over Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of redheads (3rd nomination). It appears this IP has been stalking your nominations and specifically voting against you, and in one case replying to your comment directly. Normally this wouldn't be strange but this IP only !votes in your nominations with no other edits and over a widespread number of days. I've decided to ask for a second opinion at the SPI just in case but I thought you would like to know. Mkdwtalk 07:46, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Good news. The IP has been blocked per the awesome investigative team at the SPI IRC. See User talk:143.105.49.234. I have gone ahead and struck their edits from the active AfD's. Mkdwtalk 07:58, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi, friend

I have written a proposed remedy to the Richard Arthur Norton affair, to be taken to AN/I in the event that ArbCom defers the case. Since the original thread is hatted, the proposal has been made on his talk page (User_talk:Richard_Arthur_Norton_(1958-_)). As you were a participant in the original thread, I would very much appreciate your comments as to whether the proposed remedy satisfies your concerns. Thanks, —Tim /// Carrite (talk) 23:23, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Closure

For reference, there's also WP:ANRFC which might be of value. I'll also have a look at the AFD itself - maybe a few more opinions will be enough to build a solid WP:CONSENSUS. Cheers mate, Stalwart111 05:57, 13 February 2013 (UTC).

Hey man.

Why can't I add some of the founder section and others into the article La Salle School, Klang ? Correct me if I am wrong. --LeeGuan (talk) 06:45, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

Sorry

Well, sorry about the undo. It is my fault. Thank you.--LeeGuan (talk) 07:04, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

FYI - Self-reporting BLUDGEON

Per instructions at WP:BLUDGEON, I have decided to "ask an uninvolved administrator their opinion" for your accusation. Personally I don't care, but it seems that the instruction on the page wants me to report at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. Since you're affiliated with the discussion, I thought it best to let you know. Personally, I think it seems silly to report myself for having a civil discussion, but I guess that's what they are wanting.--Paul McDonald (talk) 04:18, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Alansohn acrimony

I see Alansohn said "you're sure one f'ed up dude" and "You're already 100 times more of a WP:DICK of any other typical WP:DICKy editor I've seen, and the ratio is rapidly rising well above those ratios as we speak" Can you give me some context where that came from? It wasn't obvious looking at the editing histories.

I've gotten similar complements from him lately too. Toddst1 (talk) 21:36, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Recent additions of the Citation needed tags to the Marbella article

I've invested a lot of time translating text from the Marbella article at Spanish Wikipedia into English, and in making many subsequent edits to the Marbella article, including adding sources.

Any help I could get from fellow Wikipedians in finding citations would be much appreciated. The Spanish article has Spanish-language sources that can be added to the English one.

I have given a WP:3RR warning to User:Afterwriting but you have both already violated the three revert rule in your edit war. While WP:BLP gives you some justification for removing unsourced content, there are still better ways of resolving issues than edit-warring. --Michig (talk) 13:08, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

a disputed claim can be removed regardless if it is a BLP. I gave 2 warnings plus the precise text from WP:BURDEN on the user's talk page. LibStar (talk) 13:12, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
You failed to engage in any discussion as repeatedly requested and instead resorted to hypocritical warnings on my user page. Afterwriting (talk) 13:14, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

You failed to discuss as well and simply reverted for no reason but to be WP:POINTY and provided no source for high school. LibStar (talk) 13:17, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

There's no excuse for you refusing to engage in discussion when asked and then resorting to hypocritical warnings for edit warring and an assertion of some selective principles of WP:BURDEN. Afterwriting (talk) 14:24, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

I did not warn you for edit warring. I warned you for adding uncited content. That is not hypocritical. LibStar (talk) 14:27, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

Notability of Japanese ambassadors

In the context established by Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Susumu Shibata, may I ask you to to take a look at two related articles. I wonder how to measure consensus opinion about Tsukasa Kawada‎ and List of Ambassadors from Japan to Algeria‎? --Ansei (talk) 17:29, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

You indicated that you were nominating Thongsavanh Phomvihane for deletion here, yet no notice appears on the Thongsavanh Phomvihane article. Is that an oversight? Or, is something else going on? --Bejnar (talk) 19:10, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Attributing splits

Hi, LibStar. :)

First, I wanted to thank you for finding and following up with the copyright issues you identified here. This work is not always pleasant (well, okay - hardly ever pleasant), but it's important, and it looks as though the editor has a better understanding now - which is critical. :)

I do see, though, that some of the splits identified in that section remain unattributed. Even though they were done a long time ago, this attribution is necessary, since content on Wikipedia is also under copyright and use of it without complying with the license is also a copyright issue.

I went ahead and took care of List of people from Trieste ([24], [25], [26]) in accordance with Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. (Not all lists have enough creativity to require attribution, but the descriptions by the names in that list do add that burden.) Can you please take care of the others that were mentioned as well as attributing any other content that you might have moved from one article to another, so we can make sure that lingering copyright issues there are addressed?

Happy to talk about the process if you want, and thanks again for keeping on top of the copyright issue you found. Unpleasantness aside, it's really a good service to Wikipedia. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:13, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

thanks for notifying me. I was not aware of this guideline. your approach was far more good faith than the stance of unscintillating (who appears to have some agenda against me). LibStar (talk) 07:49, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

Sitting in a public library, trying to make head or tail of a damned poor Internet connection on a clunky computer, trying to understand what you are doing with Indonesian articles, for some weird the damned keys stuck on eliminating your user page. I have no idea why or how that happened, so restored the user page. Cheers sats 08:25, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

Response from 3O

Hi, I know this is probably not of much use but I felt like responding anyway to your WP:3O request on a user. I've come across many new users like these who don't use talk pages/edit summaries even after I give them the notice. Some users have been here for years, not that active but still editing consistently, and almost never post/reply/use summaries. There is almost zero communication with them and the rest of the community and they seem fine on their own...editing in their preferred topic range, as long as they don't begin editing important articles and begin making unexplained mass changes.

Since edit summaries are mostly recommended but not compulsory, and based on the user's choice, it would be wise let it be as it is. Chances are, if the user in future, makes a big change or gets involved in a content dispute, then in most cases, they end up communicating. If they don't and behave disruptive, then there is a question of WP:competence. For this case, the user's edits were regular and didn't seem contentious....I don't think the lack of summaries here is something to question (yet). Sincerely, Ugog Nizdast (talk) 09:59, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

I'm a regular volunteer at 3O. I've removed your request because it is about a user's conduct and 3O is not for disputes which are primarily about conduct (or which have not been first thoroughly discussed between the parties, which is also a problem here). The proper forum for conduct disputes is RFCU or ANI. Regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 16:01, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
