An apology and an explanation[edit]

Hi LOGGERHEAD,

I'd like to apologise for the fact that you have not been getting messages here. There was a technical problem that prevented this page getting created. You should have been getting advice and notifications but you didn't and I fear that you may have been wondering what is going on. I am not sure how much you have already worked out for yourself so please let me explain.

Several of your articles were tagged for deletion. This was because we already had articles about the subjects. This sort of thing always happens from time to time but it is unfortunate that we were not able to warn you before you wasted too much time on them. It is always important to check that no existing article exists on a subject before creating one.

Some of your categories are also tagged for deletion as there were already categories covering them. The one on Lords In Waiting is called "Baronesses- and Lords-in-Waiting", which is not easy to find. The existing one for "Alumni of Pembroke College, Cambridge" has a space after the comma, which yours did not.

Anyway, please don't worry or get discouraged. It takes a short while to get the hang of editing Wikipedia. The links in the welcome message above should help. Good luck. --DanielRigal (talk) 11:41, 5 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The technical problem which was affecting your ability to create any pages in your userspace (User:LOGGERHEAD, User talk:LOGGERHEAD, and subpages thereof) was resolved fully about 30 minutes ago. You should be able to create any pages you want/need in your userspace now. --Unready (talk) 02:23, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Julian Michael Rufus Isaacs, Viscount Erleigh[edit]

The article Julian Michael Rufus Isaacs, Viscount Erleigh has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I see no assertion of notability here; Nothing but who he is related to. It is our policy that notability is not inherited. There needs to be something specifically notable about him or he isn't notable. Does he do anything? Has anybody written about him?

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. DanielRigal (talk) 20:00, 9 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi LGGERHEAD. Please don't panic about this. You have at least 5 days to see if there is anything you can add to address the issue. Non-trivial media coverage would do it.You don't need to do a perfect job to defeat the proposed deletion. Just show that there is something notable about him and then the deletion tag can be removed. Further improvements can then be made over time.
I did a quick Google news search on him and all I found was a bit of gossip column fluff but I didn't dig deep and maybe you can do better. --DanielRigal (talk) 20:41, 9 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, People educated at Collet Court. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Colet Court#Notable alumni. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Colet Court#Notable alumni – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Bazj (talk) 11:11, 10 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Barons Crawshaw requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. A tag has been placed on William Michael Clifton Brooks, 4th Baron Crawshaw requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Maybe this will help[edit]

Hi LOGGERHEAD,

I am seeing these deletion notices pop up on your page here quite regularly so I thought I ought to explain how you can avoid this happening over and over again.

They key point is that, while a lot of aristocrats are notable because they have done notable things either connected to their title or not, aristocracy does not confer notability in itself, unlike royalty which probably does, at least at the higher levels. A person with an aristocratic title who otherwise lives a fairly ordinary life may well not be notable so that is what we assume unless there is proof otherwise. Sure, aristocrats get to appear in Burke's Peerage, like the rest of us get to appear in the telephone directory but that does not confer notability, although Burke's is a valid source for referencing articles for purposes of verification. Aristocrats can become notable by their actions or involvement in events: politics, industry, military service, scandals, etc.

So, when you are considering making a new article you have to ask yourself:

  1. What is this person notable for? Is it more than just for his family?
  2. How can I clearly explain and demonstrate that notability and make it the main thrust of the article?

Is that any help? I really hope it is. We don't like to see somebody who is clearly trying to do good work on Wikipedia thwarted. Don't forget that there a lot of people here who are ready and willing to help you if you need it. Just check out the links in the Welcome message at the top of this page.
