Networking talks[edit]

Most of us just learn software skills but very few of us are well aware about networking. Read this page about sock puppetry. Most of the people, including wikipedia users don't know how does IP addresses come. ISP operators can get bulk in number of IP addresses assigned to them but they cannot assign two different IP addresses simultaneously to single client even if the customer shares same cable via media converter\router\LAN switch to multiple computers. It is possible to assign either single static IP or DHCP that has bulk number of IPs. It is not possible to assign just 2 or 3 IPs in contrast to static IP and DHCP.

Network Proxies[edit]

To the best of my knowledge, proxy server is not needed for Windows LAN for sharing internet. I was able to enable sharing to dial up connections in Windows Networks even with out using proxy. I also tested Linux servers and they required proxy. Discuss about it in page Talk:Proxy server

Wi-fi routers[edit]

If you are an ISP operator, you can provide wi-fi routers to your customers who wish to use laptops without LAN cable. If laptop has wireless LAN connector card, the laptop can access signals upto 30 meters of distance from the wireless router. Laptop can easily detect dynamic IPs. For operating systems like SUSE 11, the client should not disable DHCP if the version is Home Edition (Free Edition).
