Happy editing! Wug·a·po·des 21:43, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wug·a·po·des, thank you so much for the warm welcome. Being a newcomer here, it really means a lot. I hope we can both help each other out here at Wikipedia. Thanks once again ~~~~
Knight Brad (talk) 16:58, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Of course! Feel free to leave a message on my user talk page if you ever need help with anything. Wug·a·po·des 17:14, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Wug·a·po·des. I feel a lot more comfortable with Wikipedia now, knowing that I have someone to turn to. And if there's ever anything I can do for you too, then I'd be happy to help. Thanks again. ~~~~
Knight Brad (talk) 17:33, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am reverting your edit on Christie Clark. Unfortunately, IMDb is not a reliable source. (See WP:IMDB.) You might also want to read WP:USERGENERATED to find other user-generated sources that are similarly unreliable. Eddie Blick (talk) 18:56, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That's okay. I had used that reference because it contained the cast and crew credits that were only available on IMDb. But thank you for directing me to this list that I hadn't known about before. ~~~~ Knight Brad (talk) 22:01, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. A lot of editors use those sources without realizing that they are not reliable. Eddie Blick (talk) 00:17, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Red[edit]

Hi there, Knight Brad, and welcome to Women in Red. It's good to see you intend to help us cover more women who deserve Wikipedia biographies. As you are a new contributor, you might like to gain some basic experience in editing with The Wikipedia Adventure. When you feel ready to create your first biography, you should look through our Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:02, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Ipigott. I'm starting to feel a little hesitant about working with Wikipedia after recently learning that almost every source of information on the internet (like IMDb, for instance, that lists official cast and crew credits) and many other interviews and publications available around the web are all listed as unreliable sources on Wikipedia. It's no wonder that articles about authentic people with commendable accomplishments are being deleted. And for some strange reason, it's happening more so in the women's category.
But, I shall go through the links that you've very kindly sent me and see if I can make a change or be of any help down the line. Thank you so much for all the help. ~~~~ Knight Brad (talk) 15:25, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've been looking through your past edits and the discussions on this page. I don't think you've been treated very kindly. As for IMBd, it is often an extremely useful source and is widely used. The reason it is not accepted as fully reliable is that anyone can add to it, just as people add to Wikipedia. Many of the members of Women in Red have joined because they find it is a friendly, welcoming project where we really try to help people along. If you feel like beginning a biography, I can assure you that several of our members, including me, would be happy to help you and let you know when we think it is ready for article space. You can begin a draft in your user space as User:Knight Brad/article name. Just keep in touch and let us know if you run into any problems. You are of course welcome to use our [[Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red|talk page}} if you run into any problems. Or just alert me by pinging me or leaving a message on my talk page.--Ipigott (talk) 16:37, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, Ipigott. I had almost decided to walk away from Wikipedia but thanks to you, I will stick around and help out in any way that I can..
I'm still a newbie here, so i wouldn't immediately opt for article creation. Not because of the editorial factor but more because I've still not familiarized myself with the Wikipedia rules. I'll try to first help around by saving other articles as best as I can, while learning my way around Wikipedia through these helpful links that you've sent me. Because as and when I create articles, I would hope it wouldn't be nominated for deletion, since that wouldn't affect me as much as it would potentially tarnish the reputation of some really outstanding people. And I wouldn't want to do that to people who deserve far more than that.
So if you have any minor tasks for now that you would need me to help out with, I'd be more than happy to do it. I'm also glad that I can approach you for any help that I would need when I actually start creating articles.
Thank you so very much. It really does mean a lot. ~~~~ Knight Brad (talk) 20:50, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
One way of improving your editing is to work through The Wikipedia Adventure. As you are interested in art, you could also look through the list of new articles on this month's A+F. Some of them are still quite short and could certainly be improved. If you make additions, make sure they are supported by reliable secondary sources. Let me know what you have been doing and I'll take a look.--Ipigott (talk) 06:52, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot Ipigott. I really appreciate you being here to help me learn. I'm a bit conflicted about what constitutes as reliable and unreliable sources. I gather that it needs to come mostly from newspapers. But many of those papers and publications are not even mentioned on the Wikipedia list of reliable and unreliable sources. So how would we know which papers are accepted and which ones aren't? ~~~~ Knight Brad (talk) 15:05, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You will find lots of advice about sourcing in our essays. I usually summarize reliable sources as newspapers and journals, published books, critical appraisals, background on awards, and biographical dictionaries and data bases. Sources not considered reliable are those closely associated with the person in question as well as blogs, social networks and sites which draw on Wikipedia. You will find further details at Wikipedia:Potentially unreliable sources and Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources. I know you have run into trouble with some of the sources you have used for citations but in general, once you get the feel of how to present a biography, you should not run into difficulties. You might find it useful to look at some of the articles recently promoted to Good Article status which you can find on our Showcase page. Hope this helps.--Ipigott (talk) 15:31, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Ipigott. This is all really helpful. I shall go through it all. The Wikipedia Adventure was of immense help as well. I'm incredibly grateful and appreciate all the help and support you've given me here. Thank you ~~~~ Knight Brad (talk) 20:49, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Red 8th Anniversary[edit]

Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!
