Glenrothes concern

Thanks very much. Thats very nice of you to say.

I've taken on board your pointers, i'll try and find the time to modify the article. Others seem to have been beating me to the punch I see tho! I had hoped for it to reach FA Status but I hardly find the time to be able to update it.

Been working the article for a while, researching and writing it, so its nice to hear my efforts being acknowledged and complimented.

Keep up the good work yourself, the Kirkcaldy article looks very improved.

Ok... with the exception of the need to break up the paragraphs what do you feel is messy about the introduction? It looks fine to me? It summarises what is said in the main text into just 3 paragraphs...

If you think you can find time then feel free to add additional info. Its open to anyone to make contributions, so long as they are constructive and positive, so if you feel you can help improve the article then that would be great. A number of the sources need re-done so they meet wikipedia requirements and that will take a while. If can help with those then that would be a huge help.

Ok I had a brief look and the majority of references need work! Some are ok but need a little more info added. Some are just random websites and I dont think all of them are working. I've listed the one's below:

If you have additional book references then that would be great. Being a new town there isn't a huge amount of published material for JUST Glenrothes. There is a few other published sources I intend to add once finished reading them.

Great, thanks for doing that. Its interesting the slight variations between books on how a place got its name, your book sounds like glen has no relations to its topography. The ones I read dont disagree but argue "Glen" being Scottish for valley, could relate to the river Leven valley which bisects the town north/south...?

Oh, could I enquire as to why you felt the need to remove the images I added to the Kingdom Shopping Centre page? I see someone has taken the liberty of undoing your work, however I felt the images added important context to what is said in the text, and there was no demonstratable need to remove them?

Hello there,

Thanks for the contact. I think the Kirkcaldy article is great, but, I don't think it's quite FA status yet - certainly it'd benefit emmensely from the WP:GA process first.

I think the article is strong, but is suffering from "one-editor-itis", i.e. it is suffering from a being written by a single editor who knows alot about the topic, but might miss out points that others may need for context for example.

I think the best route for this article however is to go through the formal Peer Review process. It might also be worth giving the settlements WikiProject a nudge about your great work, and request a copyeditor who can tie the article just that little bit more inline with WP:UKCITIES.

Forgive me for jumping in, but I saw this on Jza84's talk page, which I have shamelessly on my watchlist. I have a little experience of both the FA and GA processes, and so I'd strongly recommend that you follow Jza84's advice and take it one step at a time before going for FA; featured article really is a very demanding standard. Your most urgent need, I would suggest, is to find a copyeditor to help you sort out some of the problems you probably can't see, because you're too close to the article. Take a look at the good article criteria as well, to see the kinds of things that reviewers will be looking for. Hi Kilnburn. Spotted that you'd taken the construction tag off, so congratulations on all your work on the article. Having had a quick scan through I can see the vast change you have brought to it with the considerable expansion in ground covered and a whole library of texts cited. You will see I have tagged it for copyediting but in the main this is just an indication that it could benefit from some fresh eyes to give it some polish. I'd like to reiterate that I'm impressed at the improvements you have made in the level of care in your editing.

I have made a small start at checking the inline citations and there is a bit of work required there. In this regard it would be worth some time to revisit this yourself as you are best placed for access to the texts you have cited (other editors probably largely don't have them (I do have some of them incidentally)). I spotted a few misinterpretaions and misquotations but the main issue is actually fairly easily addressed. This is in regard to where inline the citation is placed. You often place citations at the end of sentences or paragraphs, leading to the potential implication that they verify all of the text preceding them, when in fact they refer to only one or some of the points therein. By placing the citation at a more appropriate point in the text it clarifies this and in turn gives it more credibility. All the best. Mutt Lunker (talk) 01:27, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

copy editor for Kirkcaldy article

Hello. I'm not sure why you think I'd be good at copyediting Kirkcaldy, as I don't know much about the place, but I'll happily scan it over to see if I can pick up any typos, punctuation problems etc when I have the time.

As for Victoria Carpets, I did know of their origin, but dating the move seems to be problematical:

• victoriacarpets.com says 1900.
• victoria.plc.uk says 1905.
