Please, no copyrighted text[edit]

Your addition to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Kathy Boockvar has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Text cannot be copied from http://www.boockvar.com/about. There is no explicit copyright notice, so the text is assumed to belong to Boockvar for Congress and be under an all-rights-reserved license.

Also, even if it were to be under a free license, candidates for office are not notable people, so an article, if created, would likely wind up deleted. —C.Fred (talk) 16:10, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(From my talk page)
You rejected my submission for a page for Kathy Boockvar citing copyright violation of Boockvar.com. I am the one of the owners of Boockvar.com, and was using my own site's language. This can evidenced by my email, [redacted]. Can you please correct this deletion? Thank you. Jon Blair Kathyboockvar (talk) 16:39, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You would need to change the license terms on the website to note that the text is under a Creative Commons ShareAlike license and the GFDL for it to be usable on Wikipedia. Alternatively, you would have to email WP:OTRS to have them check out your claim and your release of the text. Note that if you release the text, the genie is out of the bottle: anybody can reuse the text at that point for any purpose, including commercial purposes.
Further, anybody would be able to edit the text—add to it, change it, or delete it—so long as their edits were within Wikipedia's guidelines, including verifiability. So, were your submission to become an article, don't be surprised when, per the neutral point of view guidelines, any of/all the criticisms of Boockvar show up in the article. —C.Fred (talk) 16:48, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Flagrant username violation[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I noticed that your username (Kathyboockvar) may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it is the name of a real person, but you are not that person, based on this comment at my talk page. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account to use for editing. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 16:43, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

C. Fred,
If you will look at the webpage you are citing, you will see that it is the official webpage of Kathy Boockvar, and I am her spokesperson. So yes, I am absolutely authorized to use her name. Jon Blair
No, you are not—at least, not for Wikipedia purposes. Per WP:Username policy: "Do not register a username that includes the name of an identifiable living person unless it is your real name." You are not Boockvar, so you may not use her name as a username. Even if you claimed to be Boockvar, your account would be blocked until the Volunteer Response Team confirmed your identity. —C.Fred (talk) 16:51, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, Fred. Kathy Boockvar has asked me, her representative, to create this page. If you would like her to verify her identity and her language, and then we can have her post the language, then we will do that. Have your team contact us. [redact] is the email that goes to her. [redact] is the phone. Thanks. Kathyboockvar (talk) 16:57, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you would like to go that route, see the instructions at WP:Contact us. On the right-hand side are links "For Wikipedia editors", including to permit use of text and to request unblocking. You will need to send the email; I can't do it on your behalf. That said, it is doubtful they will allow this account to be unblocked; they will probably encourage you to select another username that complies with the guidelines. —C.Fred (talk) 17:06, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
