Your Bot and GPMG[edit]

I think you should have checked before you let it loose on the GPMG - it has n't diffrentiated between GPMG as a concept and the British Army specific GPMG the L7 GPMG GraemeLeggett 09:20, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to be as careful as possible as the wikipedia is not quite filled up yet (i.e. .455 Webley redirects to 11 mm etc.) but all of the GPMG links you are referring too pointed to a redirect page for GPMG that pointed to "General purpose machine gun" I looked back through the edits this AM and found where you pointed some of them back or dewikied them. Sorry if I caused you any inconvenience I was trying to help clean up some areas. Kaiserb 17:10, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I reviewed all of the GPMG changes and have corrected the ones that should go to L7 GPMG. Most of the context found was L7 GPMG or 7.62 mm GPMG Kaiserb 17:10, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bot[edit]

Hi, please don't use your bot to bypass redirects. One of the advantages of redirects is that the Wikicode looks clearer and becomes a lighter markup, the result is it's easier to read and is slightly less offputting for newbies to see World War 2 than World War 2. — Matt Crypto 12:25, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There appeared to be a large number of redirect links referring to World War II. I know that a number of people have differing opinions on how best to name WWII or World War 2 or World War II. I was just trying to clean up some of the redirecting links without changing the grammatical content of the page being edited. The question I have is: Is it better to have a bypass link going to the correct page, avoiding a redirect page hit, or having a new editor use their preferred name for a subject and then use (or create) a redirect page to reach the page intended? H. S. "Andy" Anderson Disambig by Bot[edit]

Thanks for fixing the mistake. I felt it was a bit iffy when I made the change, and thought someone would fix it up if it was incorrect (and you did!). I guess this might be a little recklass, but the outcome (after your intervention) was a better wikipedia article, so I guess that's a matter of opinion.--Commander Keane 16:53, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem. The bots are a great helper, there are a few instances where they get into some trouble but ovarall they work well. Kaiserb 17:07, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

In the last few days you have gone through numerous pages I have contributed to and changed the link to estate in very many cases you have linked to the wrong estate Francis Petre is the last such, that I have bothered to check. I see you have also visited:-

 • (diff) (hist) . . m Sicilian Baroque; 21:24 . . KaiserbBot (Talk) (Robot-assisted disambiguation: Estate)
 • (diff) (hist) . . m Luton Hoo; 21:13 . . KaiserbBot (Talk) (Robot-assisted disambiguation: Estate)

 • (diff) (hist) . . Francis Petre; 21:04 . . 66.169.175.108 (Talk) (Robot-assisted disambiguation: Estate.

Would you please read the article and check what exactly you are linking too. I have not reverted any of your edits, so could you lease return, read the page and check it is correct. Thanyou Giano | talk 21:12, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have reviewed the changed made earlier today regarding Estate (disambiguation). Within the context supplied by the bot, I thought after my changes that they linked to the correct place. After further (in-depth) review of the articles there were a few that needed changes from Estate (land) -> Estate (area) and Estate (land) -> Estate (house). I reverted a couple of others as the article was ambiguous regarding land or house. I apologize for any changes made that pointed to the wrong definition of Estate. If you find any others or have suggestions please let me know. - Kaiserb 00:19, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
 • Thanks. Do you really feel the two need to be separated anyway. In legal terms estate refers to any property concrete of liquid owned by an individual. In land terms an estate is any amount of land owned by an individual, albeit often attached to the individuals residence. Giano | talk 08:51, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
 • That is a good question. I know the Disambiguation project page listed Estate as one of the topics to be disabiguated into separate catagories, however some of the content on the pages (e.g. Estate (land), Estate (house)) are very similar. It is just one of those topics that was divided up some time ago and some time from now someone will suggest merging them.

Bot edit summary[edit]

I asked RussBlau this one a while back. Basically you add a line to the user-config.py. This should explain it ok, if not ask me again with specifics. Good to have another bot on board.--Commander Keane 05:14, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I tried this and received an undefined variable error. Is there maybe one more step I am missing?
There aren't any steps, just copy the line into your user-config.py and it's done. Take at look at my user-config.py. I know that one works, see if there are any differences. Sorry about the delay, I forgot to check back for a response.--Commander Keane 00:05, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I changed my files to look like yours. It still gives me the same thing. See test results. I included solve_disabiguation.py also, perhaps the software versions are different —  KaiserB 02:57, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ahhh. Your version of solve_disambiguation.py is pretty old. I'm running v 1.193 2005/11/17 19:34:22, you are running v 1.185 2005/08/14 09:19:10. RussBlau only implemented this new edit summary feature when I asked him in October. I recommend you use CVS, that way it only take two mouse clicks to update. I have written some easier-to-understand CVS installation instructions (only for Windows though) in my user space if you are interested. However, I haven't tested them out, so you may need to ask me a few things, which I always welcome. --Commander Keane 03:15, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
CVS is no problem, I am updating now. I am glad we could figure out what is going on. Thanks for all your help. —  KaiserB 03:17, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bot Path[edit]

Having a look at the results you provided, and your Babel, it's apparent that you have considerable computer skills, sorry if I was a little condescending or whatever, of course you know how to use CVS. Anyway, maybe you can help me out. RussBlau said that I have to have the pywikipediabot and python in the same PATH. This means they have to be in the same directory right? Just wondering, because although it works fine, I have a very busy directory with all the stuff in it.--Commander Keane 03:29, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Woodworking[edit]

Hi, On your question on my talk page, the answer is anything you feel competent to do or change is more than welcome. I noticed that you did some stugg on woodcarving, the Woodcarving article is pretty pathetic, having been copied from the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica. Other than that, take a look at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Woodworking and just dive in into anything that interests you. Also, you can use that page to describe out to anything that you feel needs doing, or anything you need help with. Feel absolutely free to edit that page too. You might also want to got to the Category:Woodworking page and its sub-category pages and take a look at the articles there. Change or add to anything you think is wrong or needs doing. Thanks for your interest and, like I said, just dive in. Have fun. :-) Luigizanasi 06:27, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I just reverted your edits here, you may need to reapply what you were doing. The reason for the reversion is that Wikipedia seems to have some problems at the moment where it is ending up duplicating the content of articles and inserting the edit summaries of edits between the versions. You edits here did that so the template was a right mess. Thanks --pgk(talk) 15:04, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks much, I will refix it in a bit and reapply the changes when the WP is feeling better. —  KaiserB 15:19, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I think the bug has been resolved now. thanks --pgk(talk) 15:30, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Horse worship/Temp[edit]

What was all the duplicate article, request for deletion stuff that you put on Horse worship/Temp? After all, once I put the copyright violation notice on the main article, /Temp is exactly where I was told to put the replacement article.... --Nantonos 09:03, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I see it was resolved. --Nantonos 09:09, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your bot[edit]

Your bot seems to be alphabetizing categories, but the edit message is "AWB Assisted removing excess links per the Manual of style". This is confusing. Mirror Vax 22:34, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I was making a remove excess links run on the pages in the Weapons catagory. The clean up and alpha sort was a secondary process occurring in the same run. I will adjust the tag next time I run this. —  KaiserB 01:40, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bot problems[edit]

I am rerunning the list fixing these now. The AWB seems to want to alpha sort template which causes issues with pages like this. —  KaiserB 01:43, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

We started a proposal Wikipedia:Wikiethics to state the existing policies coherently and make suggestions on improving the editorial standards in Wiki. I thought you might be interested in contributing to that proposal.

Unfortunately, a pro-porn and pro-offense lobby is trying to make this proposal a failure. They unilaterally started an approval poll although almost no one including me believe that it is time for a vote, simply because the policy is not ready. It is not even written completely.

Editors who thinks that the policy needs to be improved rather than killed by an unfair poll at the beginning of the proposal, started another poll ('Do we really need a poll at this stage?') at the same time. The poll is vandalized for a while but it is stable now. A NO vote on this ('Do we really need a poll now?') poll will strengthen the position of the editors who are willing to improve the ethics policy further.

If you have concerns about the ethics and editorial standards in Wiki, please visit the page Wikipedia:Wikiethics with your suggestions on the policy. We have two subpages: Arguments and Sections. You might want to consider reviewing these pages as well...

Thanks in advance. Resid Gulerdem 01:06, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recommendation[edit]

Can you recommend a bot to fix redirects? I would like to have all pages being redirected to Wikipedia talk:Barnstar and award proposals chnaged to point there automatically. Thanks! --evrik 15:56, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re images for set[edit]

Hi Kaiserb. You recently replaced two PNG images in the article set, with SVG versions. However I've restored the older versions, for now, since I think it is better for all the images in the article to "match" visually. We can replace all of the images when there are matching "SVG" versions for all of them. Is that ok with you? Regards Paul August 17:01, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well you could change the 3 missing PNGs to SVGs as they are all marked to be superseded. It is really up to the editor at the time. I saw they were out of date and had been superseded per Commons:Transition_to_SVG so I changed them out. --—  KaiserB 17:33, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Your bot has interfered with one of the headings in this article (on December 27h., 2006) and disabled a link. On the assumption that there is no particular reason for this, please could you stop it happening again. I've left a note on the Talk page. Yours, --Major Bonkers 06:36, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your post...I checked the logs and the clean up was performed based on the Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(headings) Which states links should be avoided in headings. Sorry for the confusion. —  KaiserB 21:32, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Nara_seal.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Nara_seal.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:55, 31 March 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 19:55, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Kaiserb! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 936 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the unreferencedBLP tag. Here is the article:

 1. Dave Stetson - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

File permission problem with File:45ACPMoonclip.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:45ACPMoonclip.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

 • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
 • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Musamies (talk) 14:29, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:21, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
