Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Hey there. I just noticed that your latest article was imported from another source. If you own or have permission to use the copyright for this material, please indicate this on the talk page of your article. Otherwise, we can't accept it here. If you want to rewrite the article in your own words, please do so on the "/Temp" subpage of the article. Also, regardless of whether this article infringes on copyright, we welcome any other original contributions you may wish to make. Thanks! - Vague | Rant 02:49, Dec 10, 2004 (UTC)

Please be aware that it is not necessary to link every word in an article just because you can, and that many people find heavily-linked text difficult to read. Refer to Wikipedia:Make only links relevant to the context for more discussion on this subject. --Paul A 04:58, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Kaal, could you go back to the Economic Group and undo most of the links that you added. There are unnecessary. In particular, you need only link once to another article -- you do not have to repeat the link every time a word appears. Also, there is no point in linking to "percentage" or to "nominate" since these are common English words. thanks. Kevintoronto 17:22, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Cleanup help[edit]

Hi, thanks for the offer to help with keeping WP:AN clean, but as a fairly new editor on Wikipedia, it might be better for you to get some more experience of how the community works before helping maintain what can be a fairly sensitive page? (E.g. we get a number of accusations of abuse of powers by admins there, etc.) Thanks, and I hope I haven't discouraged you! Noel (talk) 00:46, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)

PS: Wikipedia style is that people generally reply on the User_Talk: page of the person who wrote a message to them (that way, someone doesn't have to monitor a whole long list of User_Talk: pages - one for each person whom they are having a "conversation" with), so please leave any messages for me on my talk page (above); if you leave a message for me here I probably will not see it. Not everyone on Wikipedia uses this style (they would rather keep all the text of a thread in one place), I but I simply can't monitor all the User_talk: pages I leave messages on. Thanks!

tidying WP:VFD[edit]

don't blank vfd discusions, you can remove speedy deletions from the vfd page itself without complaints but do not blank the subpages. Dunc| 22:59, 25 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Wikiportal/India[edit]

Hi, thanks for chipping in with content for the Wikiportal/India. Any comments views? What else could be added? Please sound off... I think we should add a link to India Notice board, Indian Current events there. Hoping to hear from you. You can also join me in contributing content.

Cheers Arunram 05:30, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)

AID project[edit]

On this week's Article Improvement Drive voting, an article you supported was selected. This week we focus on improving Antigua and Barbuda and Criticisms of War on Terrorism to featured article status. Hope you can help. 119 01:02, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Format of Babri Mosque[edit]

According to what I read in Wikipedia about recommended picture layout styles, the alternating right-left method is optimum. In the Picture Tutorial, the recommendation reads: "Perhaps the easiest way is to make floating images alternate left then right - this way they don't come into contact with one another, and so can't stack up in an unattractive way." In my opinion all pictures alligning right wold be unattractive. There are all sorts of people with all sorts of monitors, we can't optimize for all of them, so I suggest following Wikipedia guidelines.--A. S. A. 07:36, Mar 7, 2005 (UTC)

Good work![edit]

I noticed your edits to Mumbai. Good work with tightening the sentences. I'd appreciate it if you could read and tighten Chennai in a few days. BTW, congrats on your 1000th edit! (I may be a few edits early :-)) -- Brhaspati (talkcontribs) 03:13, 2005 Mar 10 (UTC)

Revert[edit]

What did you find offensive or incorrect about my edits to evolution that caused you to revert? – ClockworkSoul 19:42, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • Hello again, Kaal. I haven't gotten a response from you, but from what looks like, you were upset that somebody else re-added a section before I made my changes. If thats the case, I'm a left to wonder why you try to retain my grammar and (minor) POV fixes. After all, you could have easily just removed that entire section without affecting my edits. If it's my edits you don't like, let me know. – ClockworkSoul 20:06, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Mmmmmmm, that tastes good[edit]

Mmmmmmm, flattery, thanks very much, I love that stuff! Have a petit four! Bishonen | Talk 20:11, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Kalimpong[edit]

Thanks for copyediting the Kalimpong page. I've listed it as a Featured Article Candidate. You may want to vote... :)  =Nichalp (talk · contribs)= 20:16, Apr 17, 2005 (UTC)

Maybe Katie[edit]

Salve, Kaal!
You were kind enough to support my Julia Stiles article when I nominated it for featured status. Another article on an actress, my Katie Holmes, is now also a FAC here and I wonder if you would offer your comments. PedanticallySpeaking 15:26, Apr 18, 2005 (UTC)

COTW Project[edit]

You voted for Decolonization, this week's Collaboration of the week. Please come and help it become a featured-standard article.

Coincidence[edit]

I just encountered an "edit conflict", which turned out to be the two of us SIMULTANEOUSLY amending the misplaced modifier about the cablecars in Gangtok. I think this article is but a couple of copyedits away from being "feature quality". Sfahey 22:14, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Geography of India[edit]

Would you review Geography of India please?, Thanks  =Nichalp (Talk)= 13:24, Jun 5, 2005 (UTC)

Indian Railways[edit]

The Indian Railways is the current INCOTW and your vote helped select it. Please help it attain FA status.  =Nichalp (Talk)= 19:35, Jun 5, 2005 (UTC)

FARC[edit]

There is a straw proposal here on my recent rule change for FARC: I had added a delay clause to use the talk page for article cleanup before FARC and put it into motion. Some people apparently don't agree with me. See [1]. Please have a look.  =Nichalp (Talk)= 15:21, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)

Flag of India[edit]

Flag of India is ready for a copyedit if needed. =Nichalp «Talk»= June 29, 2005 13:02 (UTC)

Thanks for the copyedits. =Nichalp «Talk»= July 1, 2005 10:38 (UTC)

History of India[edit]

The History of India is this week's INCOTW. Thank you for voting and showing your commitment to make this the latest India FA. =Nichalp «Talk»= July 3, 2005 09:12 (UTC)

Blanking nominations on COTW[edit]

Hiya, I'm not sure why you blanked some of the nominations on COTW. Why are you doing this? Talrias (t | e | c) 9 July 2005 13:37 (UTC)

Ah, I see - you were archiving it. I'm not sure if you are aware but since subpages are being used for COTW the correct way to archive is to just delete the subpage template insertion from the COTW page and reinsert it into the removed page. Talrias (t | e | c) 9 July 2005 13:52 (UTC)

You were kind enough to support my nomination of Julia Stiles as a featured article and I wonder if you would look at my newest FAC, Tom Brinkman. The voting page is at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Tom Brinkman/archive1. PedanticallySpeaking 15:00, July 29, 2005 (UTC)

Cleanup Taskforce reminder[edit]

Greetings. You are receiving this boilerplate notice because you have a task on your Cleanup Taskforce desk that has not been updated for over 30 days. If you do not wish to complete this task please assign it to another Cleanup Taskforce member who has space on their desk. If you do not wish to receive cleanup requests on your desk any more, you may remove yourself from the membership list. If you or someone else has completed the task, you can close it by adding {{cleanup taskforce closed|ARTICLE NAME HERE}} to the article's talk page and removing it from Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce. If you have a status update (e.g. you intend to work on it in the future) or need help, you can update the collaboration page (which is linked from your desk). Also feel free to reply to the person who left you this message. -- Beland 06:34, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for copyediting economy of india. You might want to vote for it at FAC. pamri 07:41, August 15, 2005 (UTC)

Regarding the Wikipedia Signpost.[edit]

You left me a notice that you might be interested in writing articles. The best place to do that would be in the newsroom, where there are instructions to do so, as well as sign-ups for regular columns. Leave another note on my talk page if you have any questions about it. ral315 19:58, August 17, 2005 (UTC)

Are you still interested in writing the features article, since I won't be able to do it this week. If you are then please leave a note in the Newsroom. the wub "?/!" 07:56, 24 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Kaal, it seems User:Flcelloguy has already taken the Features and admins page for this week (I'm going to check with him and make sure). If you can think of any other articles to do, I'd love to have you do them, however. ral315 23:04, August 26, 2005 (UTC)

BEST[edit]

I'm planning to push this next week to FAC: Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport. Would you have a look at it and see if it needs any copyediting? Thanks. =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:38, August 26, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the copyedits. =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:23, August 28, 2005 (UTC)

refining new goals[edit]

who defines the Top level priority? looking at the history, it seems that you play a part. india's featured articles seem a little dry at the moment. there is a distinct lack of articles related to contemporary indian culture. what is there to show that india's culture is alive & kicking as opposed to stale & dead? even the page on mumbai shows little evidence of living culture. why isn't bollywood a Top level priority? i'd like the world to know more about modern india. for balance perhaps top priority show go to articles about; 'the changing attitudes to sex in india'. other Regional notice boards are more balanced. the irish are working on Father_Ted. the japanese on Education_in_Japan. U.S._Southern on Hurricane_Camille etc. what we need are more FAs that that would make an interesting Today's featured article. surely Top level priority should goto more articles with worldwide popular appeal to balance all the dry articles? Might be speaking out of turn here ...[edit]

Sorry to interrupt you but I noticed you in recent changes voting on the ArbCom candidates but couldn't find a vote on my page (Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections January 2006/Vote/Dbiv). Of course you could have decided to abstain, but I do so hate to be left out so I thought I might give you a reminder in case you have missed me out accidentally. Of course how you vote is your decision. David | Talk 17:34, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging Image:Khammam.jpg[edit]

Warning sign

Thanks for uploading Image:Khammam.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
