To war[edit]

A good quote: "Mark my words, Asquith is not the pilot to weather this storm." John Morley [1]

Descendants[edit]

Need good sources for Helena Bonham Carter, Anna Chancellor and Dominic Asquith, if we are to include them. Include Raymond Asquith, 3rd Earl of Oxford and Asquith ? And why the hell can't I italicise The Yellow Rolls-Royce?

  • All done.

Causa causans[edit]

Nigeria debate - this will need a Note.

Sources in the original article[edit]

Couple of, useful ?, sources, Fair, Fry, Hazlehurst on JSTOR. Ask Tim to review to see if anything needs taking. Oddly, can't see any citations from Fry or Fair. Pretty sure we don't want a separate section on this. Check with TR/W.

  • Sources need checking. Think we can ditch Woodward and Jeffrey. Also Weston's not listed and I don't know what it is.

Alcohol[edit]

Do we want a separate section on this? There's sufficient material. If yes, use the following: "It is a disagreeable task to have to emphasize in a Prime Minister a failing which would be fatal in a footman, but there is no doubt of his frequent incapacity from so humiliating a disease as drink." Sir Almeric Fitzroy, Clerk to the Privy Council.[2] and this: "the fate of the Church being left in the hands of two Jews who are entirely sober and of one Christian who is very patently drunk." Balfour 1911 [3]

Lechery[edit]

Need to discuss. I think Bobby Neate and Annabelle Venning are trash. But the allegations are in Clifford. Interestingly, every online search I do throws up the same three in unison; Clementine on cleavages, unidentified woman on thigh stroking and Ottoline on the erected instrument. Where did Ottoline say this? How important is this to an understanding of A? That said, Lytton S on Asquith is good. Where did I read that?

  • Done - if opposed at PR/FA can follow Tim's suggestion of a footnote.

Do think we need the entry of Venetia in 1910, or perhaps 1912. She currently enters as she leaves, in 1915.

Heffer Notes 79/80[edit]

  • Can't currently (15/9) find them and a couple of Hellers for Heffers have slipped in.

Magnus Edward VII[edit]

Had added to sources but can't [4] links as embedded in footnotes.

The Wharf[edit]

Do we ever say what this was/introduce it? I think he bought it in 1912 but will check.
