{{helpme}} I used pictures from wikipedia to make a collage for the St. John's Newfoundland and Labrador article am I able to upload this?

Take a look at these examples File:Predynastic collage.png - File:Christmas collage.PNG; both of them show in the "summary section" the sources (in order) for each of the images that's included in the collage. Please note to make sure that you're using "free" images, as the use of non-free images (such as logos) is restricted to specific pages. Skier Dude (talk) 03:09, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that you'd want to use the following templated license {{self|GFDL|Cc-by-sa-3.0-migrated|Cc-by-sa-2.5,2.0,1.0}} or {{self|GFDL|Cc-by-sa-3.0-migrated}} {when uploading make sure you remove the "< nowiki >" from the template) - you can see how these look in full on this one -File:Christmas collage.PNG Skier Dude (talk) 03:30, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Fortis Properties Logo.gif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. FASTILY (TALK) 22:54, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Equalization payments in Canada, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Equalization payments. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally moving or duplicating content, please be sure you have followed the procedure at Wikipedia:Splitting by acknowledging the duplication of material in edit summary to preserve attribution history.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Moving Torbay[edit]

Please don't move this article to Torbay, England. It is by far the most notable use of "Torbay" as discussed at Talk:Torbay. Please engage in discussion and community decision before taking action on Wikipedia. Jolly Ω Janner 18:54, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And "Torbay (English Borough)" is even worse. Totnesmartin (talk) 08:13, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on List of neighbourhoods in St. John's, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Singularity42 (talk) 03:01, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Sandy Collins requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Eeekster (talk) 01:25, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Demographics of St. John's has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unnecessary fork of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador's Demographics section, which should remain with the main article.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 04:42, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on St. John's Convention Centre requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. License tagging for File:Fortisbuilding.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Fortisbuilding.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

Rating for St. John's[edit]

Hi Jordo - you asked about what could be done to raise the rating on St. John's. First of all, "B" is as high as I can go. To answer your question, it's recommended that you ask for a Peer review to get impartial comments on what should be fixed or improved. (I'm not really good at this stuff, btw!) Another thing you can do is put up a notice with the Canada project team at this spot to get some more input.

The project's description of the various classes, and how the assessments work, can be found at Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Assessment. PKT(alk) 19:35, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kathy Dunderdale[edit]

Quick question: are you an employee of the Newfoundland and Labrador provincial government? If so, could you please provide some evidence that the copyright on File:Kathy Dunderdale.jpg is really in the public domain?

If you are a government employee who has the authority to release government photographs, then you can file a confirmation through the process documented at WP:IOWN — but if you're not a government employee and just grabbed it off their website because it was there, then you need to be aware that you can't just take any photo you want off the web and call it public domain. We require actual evidence that the government itself has actually released it that way, as their own website does not grant public domain rights to the photographs on it. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 21:48, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, fair enough. Just so you know, the US has a different rule than we do here; government photos there often are released into the public domain, but most Canadian governments release theirs under Crown copyright, which isn't the same thing and isn't compatible with Wikipedia's licensing rules. We can't just assume anything; the government's website needs to specifically state that the photo is under a public domain, Creative Commons or GFDL license. It does leave a bit of a gap whereby US politicians can have photos added to their articles more easily than Canadian ones can, but unfortunately copyright law is what it is — so generally for Canadian politicians either we have to take our own photos or we have to get explicit written permission from the government. Though occasionally we get lucky and somebody on Flickr has posted a photograph or two of a politician speaking that they've released as CC or GFDL. Hope that helps. Bearcat (talk) 18:21, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Generally, yes. The thing to watch for is whether the photographer permits commercial reuse or not. Although we aren't a commercial use ourselves, our content has to be licensed as if we were, because our copyright rules permit commercial uses to republish our content — for example, if Maclean's wanted to do a cover story on Kathy Dunderdale but for some reason they couldn't secure another photograph, as long as they credited the photographer they could just take our photograph of her and splash it on the cover. So if the license is a "partial CC" that restricts commercial use, then we can't use that either.
For what it's worth, I've also occasionally had luck doing an image search on Google for "topic Creative Commons" and/or "topic GFDL". Though admittedly that usually turns up Flickr images anyway, it also occasionally turns up personal blogs that license their content under Commons or GFDL too.
