On the Battle of Normandy Edit

Am I missing some form of debate on the flag order? I waited 4 or 5 days to edit the page. I went ahead because nobody bothered to discuss it in the thing I made in the talk page. It's not vandalism, I'd just like to see some clarification as to why it was changed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.236.208.61 (talk) 21:33, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

RfA Thanks

Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for your support during my recent RfA, which was successful. It got off to a bit of a rocky start, but your support made a big difference and it meant a lot to me. So thanks, and I'll try not to muck everything up too badly. Take care. --Bongwarrior 10:35, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

More than welcome. I've always been surprised you were not an admin before. Jmlk17 10:43, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Another RfA Spaming

Wallowing in my RfA: This time it's personal...
My sincere thanks for your support in my request for adminship, which ended with 51 supports, 0 opposes, and 0 neutral. Doubtless it was an error to put one of the government-bred race of pigmen in any position of authority, but I hope your confidence in me proves justified. Even a man pure of heart and who says his prayers at night can become a were-boar when the moon is full and sweet. Fortunately, I'm neither a were-pig nor pure of heart so this doesn't appear to be an imminent danger to Wikipedia for the moment. Fortunate as well because were-pig hooves are hell on keyboards and none too dexterous with computer mice. If ever I should offend, act uncivil, misstep, overstep, annoy, violate policy, or attempt to topple the fascist leadership of Wikipedia, please let me know so I can improve my behaviour and/or my aim. I am not an animal; I am an admin. And, of course, if there is any way in which I can help you on Wikipedia, please do not hesitate to ask me. Despite my japes, I am indeed dedicated to protecting and serving Wikipedia to the best of my foppish and impudent abilities. I will strive to be an admirable admin, shiny and cool, reasonable and beatific. Pigmanwhat?/trail 05:14, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Post Scriptum: I believe my collaged graphic at left, which incorporates the WP globe and mop image, falls under the rubric of parody for my purposes here. Or is it satire? Regardless, it's a legitimate and legally protected First Amendment usage under US law. Complaints and allegations that this is an improper "fair use" image will be entertained on my talk page, probably with fruit juice, finger food and exotic coffees.

Would you mind deleting this article? Thanks. Tiptoety 04:36, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

A request

Pardon me if I'm acting out of turn in some way but I am rather new to many of Wikipedia's policies. I just thought I would bring to your attention a user you previously banned who is (again) causing problems. If you would, please take a look! Thanks! :) JRDarby 04:15, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Howdy Jmlk17, thanks for participating in my request for adminship. I am happy to say it was successful, 55/0/0, and I am looking forward to getting to work. Thanks for your vote of confidence. By all means, feel free to check in on my work to come. Suggestions and advice are always appreciated.

I considered not spamming talk pages but not saying "thanks" just isn't me. The support was remarkable and appreciated. I only hope that I am able to help a little on here. Please let me know if I can help you or equally if you find any of my actions questionable. Thanks & regards --Herby talk thyme 11:37, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your support and prompt reaction to my request. There are some other articles concerning the human sexual organs which should be ... well ... "watched" or supervised. Some users are just so awfully childish but I guess I'm not telling you any news about that, eh? :-)

Balzac semi-prot

I understand the guideline for keeping TFA pages unprotected, but don't you think this is a special instance, given the degree to which juvenile IP vandals strike Balzac? I'm really tired of reverting all the vandalism on that page, and checking to make sure the reverts done by other people have caught it all. – Scartol · Talk 16:29, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

RfA for Canadian Paul

Four years ago this day, a foreigner was voted by the community to serve a land that he loved. Today, a new foreigner humbly accepts the charge and support of serving a community that he loves. Hopefully, he won't disappoint.

Thank you for participating in my RfA, which passed with a vote of (47/0/1). The trust bestowed upon me by the community is one of the most touching honours that I have ever received, and I vow not to let you down. Whether you have suggestions for ways in which I could improve, a request for assistance or just need someone to listen, my talk page and my email are always open. I pledge to do what I can to help this project, in the words of a man who needs no introduction, "make the internet not suck." A special thank you goes out to Tim Vickers for nominating me. Cheers, CP 22:56, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

Hi; thanks for your support to my RfA, which closed successfully at (51/1/2). I'll keep this brief since I don't like spamming anyone: I'll work hard to deserve the trust you placed in me. Thanks again. — Coren (talk) 23:30, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

The size of the penis on a picture on the Penis article

The penis shown in this picture: [1] is definitely above average size. Due to the popularity of this page, people may believe that that is the average penis size and may get anxious or begin to worry about their own penis size.

An encyclopaedia article should be balanced and display images that are representative of the general population. I believe this picture: [2] is more fitting for the page. It is representative of uncircumcised men, and is of average size.

So could you please replace the current picture with this picture: [3]?

Thanks,

Help with deleted hotel pages

Hi, I'm fairly new to making Wikipedia edits and this is the first time that articles that I have been involved in have been deleted - perhaps you could give me some help and advice. The Athenaeum Hotel, Runnymede Hotel and Grove Hotel were all deleted by you citing CSD A7 (Corp): Article about a company that doesn't assert significance. Having looked at other hotel pages relating to hotels and Hotels in London I feel that these pages did not require deletion given that they were fairly new pages and had not had time to grow. Many other hotel companies have similar pages and I feel that these pages were factual, on topic and relevant. I understand that the issue here is significance. I feel that other hotels in a similar area also have pages which started off with very little information (e.g. The Berkeley) but these other pages have been given time to evolve. Would it be possible to give me a bit of advice as to where to begin to get these pages recreated? With other hotels such as EasyBreaks and Gleneagles Hotel having pages which have little information I am still unclear as to why The Athenaeum Hotel, Runnymede Hotel and Grove Hotel have not been given time to grow; hopefully you will be able to help me with this.

Kind regards,

Jonathan Ellis (talk) 14:19, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

First off, welcome! Sorry for the confusion! I would honestly suggest that you head on over to our deletion review area and file a request. The admins working the area will review the case, and be able to work with you a bit more closely than I will/would be able to, as I am pretty tied up in real life as of late! Hope this is a help! :) Jmlk17 03:59, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Prvi Partizan Deletion

You have deleted the article Prvi Partizan that probably should not have been flagged for speedy deletion. Please see my discussion at User_talk:Bielle#Prvi_Partizan_Deletion.

I was the editor who posted the initial speedy tag. My explanation you can find at the link posted in the preceding paragraph by User:TXTad. While a "hangon" from Tad would likley have worked better, so would have a closer scrutiny on my part. TXTad would like to recreate the article with the claims for notability inserted. Can you retrieve it and post it to his sandbox? Thanks for your help, and apologies for increasing your work load. Bielle (talk) 18:13, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

JMLK

You just deleted the article titled Ilavida. I was in the process of recreating it and it is being discussed on help desk. I was asked to recreate it and Dr. K offered to review it to make sure that it was referenced properly. You deleted it while I was STILL editing it.

I am thoroughly frustrated. I suppose that I will never be able to put this article up because MULTIPLE admins take it upon themselves to delete the article and I have to clarify to each person on his/her talk page about the significance of the article. This article is also being discussed on Secret's talk page.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Kreedanthi (talkcontribs) 20:37, November 20, 2007

Have at it... sorry about the confusion! I would suggest writing/working on the article in your own sandbox, then transfer it to the actual article. This way, it's your own until you choose to publish it. Jmlk17 03:42, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. But the question is -- it may be speed deleted AGAIN before another admin can help me set it up properly even if I have saved a copy of the article in another file!!!!

Will you go outside, and look over at the mountains, and wave to them for me please? :) I always loved this time of year there, but here, it is just the opposite. No snow, nothing but wet cold weather. BLAH! I miss it. Enjoy it for me, okay? And if you go visit your family, please drive carefully! Mommy Ariel worries! ArielGold 06:32, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Cold is good there, though, it is a dry cold, not a nasty wet, bone chilling cold you can't get rid of, lol. And you can settle down with a nice hot cup of cocoa, and watch the snow fall outside. That's awesome you have a whole week off, I can bug you while you're on vacation! ~*Giggle*~ ArielGold 06:39, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Weird... I actually do have a cup of hot chocolate right now! And I plan on being online quite a bit more now that I have a week off! Jmlk17 06:40, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
YAY! I miss you when you're working so hard at school, I'm happy you'll be around this week! I'm going to get a cup of tea, myself, I don't drink cocoa, because (yes, I'm an odd girl) I don't like chocolate, lol. ArielGold 06:53, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
WHAT?!?!? No chocolate? I am in disbelief! I have done nothing all day except lay around, doze, and edit. Haven't done that since my surgery lol! How have you been lately though? Jmlk17 06:55, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I'm okay, you know I don't complain , except when I remember how much I miss my home, lol. Thankfully I have you to whine to about that, as you're the only person I know who lives there, lol. ArielGold 07:04, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Oh no worries. :) Colorado is the place to be! ...except DIA is probably closed, and the weather is going to suck tomorrow! You should just move back on home, that's whatcha should do! Jmlk17 07:06, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Eh? What's that you say laddie?? ;) No worries, I understand how Twinkle does the whole nom thang. I created that lil stub from a red link, knew nothing about the technology so was fun to write. I understand if it's not up to snuff (or if it's named weirdly... I'd support a move to a better more appropriate name for sure, esp. to include computer screens and stuffs), but one lil request... can you userfy if it gets deleted? I'll refrain from AfD participation so I can gauge from those who maybe understand this technology better than me whether it belongs on here or not. *rolls up monitor* Thanks you article patroller you! Re : Vandalism / warning

I believed such words as "gay movement" and the refrence to "cock" were Never allowed acording to wiki policy. Accordingly I believed I acted correctly according to the policy's set out by Wiki. Which clearly state that those references are Never to be allowed. Is their a mis understanding? I believed the user's comments to be very offensive to certain groups. Do you have a different view of the situation? If so please post on my talk.--Jab843 (talk) 07:22, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

I believe you are referring to the AIV report. I believe I posted that notice on your page due to the user you reporting not conforming to a recent warning, or a previous warning was days ago, etc. Jmlk17 07:25, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Protection of Apologize (song)

Hi Jmlk, I noticed you just semiprotected Apologize for 10 days, and was wondering if that was the right decission. If I look at the last edits, I see quite heavy editing going on. There is a lot of anon vandalism, but there also seems to be an edit conflict involving an annon editor, and a lot of good edits by annons aswell. I am asking this question not to point you to mistakes, but mainly because I would like to learn more about the reasons when protection is given, and when not. Cheers. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 23:48, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Heya! :) I protected the article due to a request here. I took a look through the history of the page, and saw quite a decent amount of anon IP vandalism, reverted by registered users. I do understand the implications that protecting the article will have against honest and good anon users, but I believe the good outweighs the bad in this case. In regards to when a page is protected, it is honestly up to the reviewing admin. Personally, I look at the page history, checking out edits between users, and then decide if 1.) there is even vandalism at all & 2.) if there is, how bad is it, and what kind of protection should I put on the page. Hope this helps!  :) Jmlk17 23:53, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Peggy Kamuf

WTF? Peggy Kamuf is the major translator of Jacques Derrida, one of the most important philosophers of the 20th century. How on earth is this not an assertion of notability? Even if you don't agree that she's notable based on that, surely that doesn't give you the right to just delete the article on sight! The Audient Void (talk) 04:01, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

And again on another article? Jesus! Would it be too much trouble to try to talk to me about them before you delete? The Audient Void (talk) 04:05, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
WP:NOTABILITY and WP:CIVIL go a long way buddy. Jmlk17 04:06, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Both articles had clear assertions of notability from the start. It's flooring to me that people can just come in and delete articles with clear assertions of notability. Seriously - this is how you treat new accounts that try to add information to articles? The Audient Void (talk) 04:08, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Not at all man. Not sure why it's "flooring" to you, but let's put it to rest with an WP:AFD shall we? That way, it's not just me being a jackass admin or anything, but it'll be up to the consensus of whomever votes. Jmlk17 04:15, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

deleted Skabs article

Yes please any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! They are a very notable band from 90's/00's and have a huge underground following...not to mention that this article took me F-O---R----E------V-------E---------------R and I don't even know how to get the format back! Ahhhhhh! Help me please!

Lol, I understand! Let's see here. Tell you what. We have a thing here called the sandbox. It's an area that ANYONE can play around in and edit. We are also capable of having our own personal sandbox that allows us to work on our own articles, tweaking and fiddling with them to our own end. I'm recovering your deleted article, putting it into your own sandbox, so you can have exactly what I deleted, but now you can "wikify" it, add some good sources, and then post it again when it is to your liking! Jmlk17 04:49, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Please help, I'm new to wikipedia and tried very very hard on my article! Why did you request it deleted? Thank you. + Abcny (talk) 04:35, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Hey Abcny! First off, welcome! Sorry to have your experience here start off on the wrong foot with a deletion, but I deleted the article per our notability policy. We like to keep our articles to notable people and/or bands etc., and I didn't believe the Skabs to be notable. If you disagree with me, I can help you find a place to build the article, or perhaps even get a review of my deletion. Just let me know! :) Jmlk17 04:39, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Hey Ivelious! First off, welcome, and sorry your page got deleted. Unfortunately, I'm not so sure your band is notable for an article here on Wikipedia. Are you guys signed, or have you released an LP or anything? Jmlk17 06:00, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

translators

Hi Jmlk17 - You may not be aware of this, but in academics, people who translate significant scholarly works are typically scholars of that person and their works, and a translation of a major work of scholarship is, itself, typically considered a major work of scholarship. This is because translation of works of scholarship, unlike translation of works of fiction, requires not just complete fluency with both languages in question, but very close knowledge of the field of scholarship, and translating "ideas" that have not previously been expressed requires a great deal of original work. So while we ordinarily think of "translators" as oral translators or perhaps fiction translators, someone who does translation in academia is a whole different kettle of fish. People will get tenure for that kind of thing, in other words. Best regards, Lquilter (talk) 15:31, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I understand. I've actually been talking with the original article creator about the whole thing. But I do thank you for the info! I wish I could get tenure! :) Jmlk17 18:50, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

2006-07 Texas A&M Aggies men's basketball team

Hello, Jmlk17. I'd like to ask you why 2007-08 Colorado Avalanche season, an article you significantly contributed to, carries notability. I read through the article and did not find anything notable about it. I'm asking you this because you put up 2006-07 Texas A&M Aggies men's basketball team for deletion. Apparently your notability criterion for these articles is that the team has to win a national championship or have a "major headway" in the news - not even 2006-07 Colorado Avalanche season meets that. BlueAg09 (Talk) 02:53, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Easy. The Avalanche are a professional hockey team, whose seasons are just one of 30 in the NHL. The Aggies, in my opinion, are non-notable in the fact that there are dozens upon dozens of collegiate basketball teams, and they are just one of the very many. They have not qualified for a national championship, and while being a big name school, they do not have the pull and sway of notability that a professional sports team does. Jmlk17 02:58, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the prompt response. How does a professional sports team have more notability than a college team? Are you trying to say that professional sports are more popular? I don't follow professional sports that much, so please elaborate. BlueAg09 (Talk) 03:08, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
I would imagine that they are much more popular. But taking a quick look at the AfD, I seem to be in the minority on believing the article fails notability. Jmlk17 10:29, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Scott5114's RFA

Thank you for taking the time to participate in my recent RFA nomination. I have withdrawn the nom early at 17/13/3. I am presently going to undergo admin coaching in preparation for a second candidacy somewhere down the line. I hope to see your potential support in the future. Regards, —Scott5114 07:52, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your advice. "Hey, we all know what is truly important now." Indeed, we do; I thought it was the making of an encyclopedia. I see you're in the USA and doubtless the furore over this little incident has probably passed you all by. Nevertheless, it has been a hot potato over here for a week or so and has attracted all manner of attention, which is reflected by the doubtless short-term interest in WP's Sudan page. However, I try to take a long-term view, which is that WP is not effectively sending out the message that although "anyone can edit Wikipedia", "idiots are not welcome, however well-intentioned"- see WP:NOT. I try not to post to RFPP or WP/ANI unnecessarily, because there's enough self-puffery going on there to begin with. After the regrettable incident with User:Adam Cuerden on WP:ANI last night, I will be emailing User:Charles Matthews tomorrow with some pertinent comments, to which this latest lamentable failure to support and trust "ordinary" editors will be a footnote. --Rodhullandemu (please reply here - contribs) 00:21, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

"I am an admin, resulting from my passing Rfa that ended June 7th, 2007... This does NOT entitle me to anything special". Exactly. Specifically, it does not entitle you to call a trenchant but good faith comment from someone who graduated college over thirty years ago a vandal. --Rodhullandemu (please reply here - contribs) 00:37, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Your opinion on my Talk page is noted. --Rodhullandemu (please reply here - contribs) 00:39, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Not even going to touch this argument. I'm not doing anything wrong, not abusing my tools, not insulting you, and I've done nothing bad. I personally don't think asking if "anyone has the balls to protect a page" is exactly AGF or civil. Besides, your personal life should not matter here. Jmlk17 00:41, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Not insulting me, no. But if you really think someone who spends twelve to sixteen hours a day editing this encyclopedia, much of it reverting vandalism and correcting mistakes wherever they are encountered, is a vandal, I think you have a lot to learn. Did you say in your RfA that you'd be open to recall? --Rodhullandemu (please reply here - contribs) 00:58, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
I am choosing to end this conversation here. If you have a desire to continue this further, WP:ANI. Jmlk17 01:02, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Back again re: vandal

Hi again :) I wondered if you could take a look for me at 172.141.35.253 and see if you'd not like to slap a little muzzle on him to stop his vandalism. Also, if you wouldn't mind, take a look at this one as well as they both come at about the same time and vadalise articles related to th same thing in the same way. Thanks for your help! JRDarby (talk) 03:16, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for the report, but unfortunately I was offline at the time. The IPs you reported seemed to have stopped editing now, but if you run across them again, don't hesitate to take them on over to WP:AIV.  :) Jmlk17 08:25, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

RFA thanks

One of my favorite places Dear Jmlk17,

Thank you for supporting in my recent RfA. Words nor pictures can express my heartfelt appreciation at the confidence the community has shown me. I am both heartened and humbled by this confidence. I will carry the lessons learned from the constructive criticism I have received with me as I edit Wikipedia, and heed those lessons. Special thanks to Pedro and Henrik as nominators. Special thanks to Rudget who wanted to. A very special thanks to Moonriddengirl for her eloquence and perceptiveness.

Cheers, Dlohcierekim 19:58, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Very welcome... best of luck! :) Jmlk17 21:37, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

why?

why did you delete Guitar Romantica (the original first one NOT the one i just created) you didnt let me even explain. It was ALL real if there was something not fitting Wikipedia's standards why not tell me to fix it or fix it yourself or something.

It is an issue of WP:NOTABILITY. Sorry. :) Jmlk17 06:46, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Dennis Lennox

I contested the speedy deletion of Dennis Lennox and was about to provide information on the talk page thereof. You deleted the page less than one minite after I contested it. This is very frustrating. Why didn't I have adequate time to provide a valid excuse. The "new page" trolls are ridiculous, the article was NOT a bio. Please let me know what I can do. hock3y@gmail.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by ChuckGreen (talkcontribs) 06:59, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm not so sure they pass notability. Jmlk17 07:05, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Dennis Lennox (cont.)

It does. Thats just the thing I was going to explain. I had NO chance to justify the page in the talk section as promised. I was not given adequate time. The page was nominated for speedy deletion by a naive "new page" troll. I cannot help he doesn't know you Lennox is, and my justification on the talk page would have justified the article. This is way more work than necessary, please twll me what I can do. ChuckGreen 07:12, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

How about I restore the page, and see what you can do! :) Jmlk17 07:15, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Chaoticus

Hey there. I was in the middle of writing my first article when you tagged it for a speedy deletion. I've made my rebuttal of sorts in the talk page so if you could have a look at it, that'd be cool. If you let me, I'd like to re-write it in my own sandbox and then paste it to avoid this happening again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LlamaAK (talkcontribs) 09:11, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Hey there! First off, sorry your first article was deleted. Secondly, I deleted it due to lack of notability. This isn't to try and put down your article or band though. You are more than welcome to work on the article in your sandbox and try again however! Best of luck! :) Jmlk17 09:21, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Page Protection

Hi. Would mind reviewing my request for page protection for the Karyn Kupcinet article that I left yesterday (it's still on the Request Protection page)? For some reason, my request wasn't granted or declined. The edit war there is still ongoing. Thanks! Pinkadelica 10:26, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Hey there! Sorry about the wait! Sometimes we get a little backed up there, and we may miss a request every now and again. I've semi-protected the page for a week. Happy editing! :) Jmlk17 21:21, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

EU semi protection

The content dispute is most likely solved please unprotect the article. Because of ongoing vandalism acts throughout every month no matter what section, I suggest keeping a "sprotect2" on a constant base. Many thanks & all the best Lear 21 10:30, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Honestly, I am hesitant to do so. Going over the discussions on the talk page leave me wondering what (if anything) has been accomplished since the protection. If you'd like another admin to take a look, please add a request at WP:RFPP. Best of luck! :) Jmlk17 21:24, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

radio links hollywood

Hi Jmlk17,

I am new to wikipedia, and added a "radio links hollywood" page.

I understand that you removed the page due to Blatant Advertising.

I do not understand what part of the page you consider to be Blatant Advertising. What would make Rotten Tomatos page NOT a Blatant Advertising - and radio links hollywood a Blatant Advertising? I do think we provide similar services - information about upcoming films.

Lori Lerner is providing this service for the studios. She gets paid by the studios to do the work, and radio stations are using here MP3 clips on their program. We are not selling any products. We have google advertisement on the page, but this just helps pay the hosting fees.

I am trying to get her links not constantly removed from the individual film pages. Rotten Tomatos is able to place links to their website inside the film page, providing information about the film. I would think we would be allowed to do the same. (If not - please explain.)

The links that we am providing is a link to the actual project page which bypasses the membership signin requirements. This is a sample link to ATONEMENT. We are not selling email addresses - and membership is free. This website is mainly a service.

Please advice on what I need to do so I can have the page back - if you so think fit.

Thanks you so much for your help.

Courtens 16:24, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi there! Sorry about the confusion over the page. I still have it deleted, but have restored the original version to your own personal sandbox here! I notice by your user page that you are the website designer for Radio Links Hollywood; this may have a conflict of interest problem though. But for the time being, work on the article a bit, and see if you can't find some other editors interested in the same topic to work with! Best of luck! :) Jmlk17 21:29, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Mass Effect unprotect request

Jmlk17, can you please unprotect Mass Effect, which has been protected since Nov 20 [5]? It has been some days since the game's launch and it'd be worth allowing the potential of good anon contribs. thank you and cheers, --guyzero | talk 18:13, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Karyn Kupcinet protection

There has been only one single edit by an anon since October 13th. Sometimes when busy we don't always look as closely as we might, and I could easily have missed something that you have seen. If so, please forgive me. Regards SilkTork *SilkyTalk 23:12, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for adding the semi-protection tag to the page. I'm not sure if you realized it, but almost as soon as you added it, a allegedly new editor User:Debbiesvoucher, came in and reverted the page back over 23 intermediate edits to a version written by User:Dooyar, which also removed your protection tag. I am aware, even before I say it, that I am going to sound like a frazzled idiot, but I'm going to both say what I am thinking, as well as ask you for advice.

I am absolutely convinced that this new editor is a sock puppet of Dooyar's, based on the selection of the version which was his/her last major contribution, the method used that makes mass reversions and hides them under a seemingly innocuous edit summary, plus the sheer oddness of a newbie coming in and making these choices. The other editor who works on this page, User:Pinkadelica, and I submitted a sock puppet report regarding this individual on November 15. One of the anonymous IPs that Dooyar used interchangeably with his registered ID was from the UCLA library. (Others were the LA County Library and LAX). The report wasn't accepted because Dooyar made no edits from November 17th until November 26th, which incidentally coincided with Thanksgiving & Thanksgiving break at UCLA. That was the first break in editing he/she has made since starting.

Another reason given for the denial was that some of the anonymous IPs were supposedly located in Virginia, although that was incorrect (they were tracerouted to socal.rr.com). All the anonymous IPs, some of which were admitted to being this individual, have been located in the Los Angeles area and have the same pattern of editing and articles as Dooyar & Onittles (another username related to the sockpuppet report). My response to the administrator who made the decision on the sockpuppet report here. The only possible outside editor on the Kupcinet page of late was the User:DefianceofTheGood who was a sockpuppet of User:ColScott. A new Los Angeles based anonymous IP weighed on the comment made by Defiance by oddly mentioning Dooyar, although the anonymous user had never contributed to the page using that IP before.

I know, this is rambling a bit too much. What I know is that all of this is convincing evidence to me that this user is employing multiple sockpuppets and moving around the LA area using public access internet to do the same exact edits and reversions to the same list of relatively obscure articles, which in and of themselves are related in a weird and sometimes tangential way to JFK conspiracy theories. What I don't know is what to do about it. Dooyar was blocked twice for incivility and rudeness. While the various edits involved since have varied levels of incivility and rudeness, they all skirt the guidelines and policies for ettiquette and collarboration and often cross into disruptiveness and border on vandalism. Please, any suggestions you have would be hugely appreciated. Pink & I would really like to move on to other articles instead of throwing away hours policing issues which were decided weeks ago. Thank you SO much for listening.

And while I writing this, Debbiesvoucher did it again, and on the talk page, used phrases and quoted the author James Ellroy with the exact same words as Dooyar. This is a sockpuppet. Wildhartlivie 00:07, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Whoo boy! That's a lot of info lol. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. The page seems to have become somewhat of a war zone. I'm none too good with the identification of sockpuppets, but I can definitely steer you in the right direction. We can find out for sure there. Also, if anyone is bugging you or vandalizing (even issues with civility at times), don't hesitate to report it to an admin board such as aiv. I hope this is somewhat of a help! :) Jmlk17 01:42, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
I'd like to suggest either a full protection or a lifting of the semi-protection. The problem isn't anon edits, its an ongoing edit conflict between registered users. Informal conflict resolution has now started on the talkpage. It appears to be a complex case and may take some time to sort out. A period of focus on discussion rather than edit warring will assist the resolution process. I suggest a period of two weeks of full protection. SilkTork *SilkyTalk 08:24, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. I have fully protected it for the time being, and I wish you guys the best of luck in the resolution of your dispute! :) Jmlk17 08:37, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
