License tagging for Image:New-temple-street.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:New-temple-street.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Hi Jhbeard. I saw an edit you recently made to the Herenton article. I noticed that the text you added was copied from the Memphis city website. While the federal government cannot, by law, claim copyright in any of its works, the same does not apply to state and city governments. I removed the text, but feel free to reword the material (put it in your own words, change the order of the information presented, etc.) and re-add it to the article if you like. Thanks! · j·e·r·s·y·k·o talk · 22:11, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, that's fine. Wikipedia and its numerous policies and guidelines can be quite cumbersome for a newcomer (I was there not too long ago). I see you've reworded the text, thanks for doing that (Wikipedia has to be careful about copyright violations). I'll check it more carefully later to make sure that it adheres to the neutral point of view policy. Thanks for your addition, and let me know if you have any questions. · j·e·r·s·y·k·o talk · 22:56, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help with sources[edit]

I did an Article on the Historically Black College or University band at Tennessee State University, the Aristocrat of Bands. Most of the sources (especially for the older history) for this article are either video proof that is part of a documentary, people who are still alive (myself included) that participated with this program, and old newspaper articles that are in the school archives. What else could be a "credible third party source"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jhbeard (talkcontribs) 21:06, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jh,
Welcome! :)
I did a search on NewspaperArchive, but couldn't find anything on the Aristocrat of Bands. However, this search on Google News Archive did pull up articles in several newspapers: The Anniston Star, USA Today, etc. Those are all reliable third-party sources, and should definitely be included in the article. There's also nothing wrong with adding in a few of the old school newspaper articles, which could be useful to readers... you just shouldn't rely on them entirely. Also, you can also cite video documentaries, provided they are independent of the source.
We appreciate your work on this article, and I'd be glad to assist you in improving it. The article is on a notable subject, and should definitely be included on Wikipedia. Firsfron of Ronchester 22:31, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
