Hospital at Scutari

Just wanted to apologise if I was a bit blunt - I was really ill at the time. Basically, the image looks just a little off in the colouration, and I wanted to poke at the original to see if that's just how it was made, or if there's some way to fix it. Hi! Could you please correct the series title of the image? I don't think Library of Congress is correct. The data base of National Diet Library says it's Nihon manzai, not Nippon banzai. I'm sorry that I cannot link the page because the pages there would time out quickly. If you want to see the page, Click this and click English page is here on the right top, then put 百撰百笑 in the title box and click search, then click #1 百撰百笑 and when you see the page of the book, click Full Record. Now you can see the reading of the title. This is a Japanese book. Please believe us. 萬歳 could be read as banzei, manzai and mansai and according to ja:万歳, there was a manzai reading at the early Meiji era. Thank you for the correction. It's right. One more thing. Click the link above, the one in P.S. (don't worry it's in English), and click database search and put 'Toroke musha'. You can see another print from the book. Then click the image. You can see the publishing date (April 7, 1904) of the book. It's a reliable source. Happy editing! I might not get anything in this week. I'm at the developers meetup where I'm involved with integrating OpenStreetMap into Wikipedia. Anyway, with so many of the developers here, I doubt there are as many bugs being resolved this week. But if you and/or X! think there is enough material for this week and interested in writing up the tech report, feel free to do so. Challenge

This is from the article about the "Fourth Wall" NCIS has frequently used it, with DiNozzo saying "I'd have a better chance of hooking up with Jessica Alba" than terrorists do of infiltrating the Navy and Gibbs saying that Ducky resembled Illya Kuryakin in his youth. Which is even more so ironic considering the two were briefly engaged." I added the last sentence because it is something that is true and I felt should be acknowledged. WikiProject User Rehab

Would you be interested in joining this project? We need more editors who share a burden for rescuing promising editors who have gotten into serious trouble because of behavioral issues. IF (a fundamental condition!) they are interested in reforming and adapting to our standards of conduct, and are also willing to abide by our policies and guidelines, rather than constantly subverting them, we can offer to help them return to Wikipedia as constructive editors. Right now many if not most users who have been banned are still active here, but they are here as socks or anonymous IPs who may or may not be constructive. Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record.
I recognise that the process itself was unusual, and the format was generally considered questionable - and I accept that I was mistaken in my perception of how it would be received - but I am particularly grateful for those whose opposes and neutrals were based in perceptions of how I was not performing to the standards expected of an administrator. Ah, I see, I wasn't aware of the long term abuse report. In that case what you did was fine. Sorry if this process seems overly bureaucratic, but a big problem SPI has is undocumented sockpuppetry. Stuff that gets done without a case or an abuse report often goes missing, creating problems further down the line (for example, if they request an unblock, and an admin has just blocked with the summary "abusing multiple accounts", it takes some time to confirm how that was determined and whether it was accurate. Sorry if I came across as a bit grumpy. I've been dealing with MascotGuy for so long that I've gotten a little impatient when it comes to him. Usually either I or PMDrive1061 (we have become the defacto keepers of the MG LTA page) block the accounts with MascotGuy in the reason. The SPI instructions is a little on the dense side, but I can understand the need to organize thing. Thanks for following up. While I realize that a checkuser is involved, I think there is more than ample evidence outside of what a CU will accomplish that could link the other accounts. Closed sockpuppet investigation - why?

I am, to put it mildly, bewildered why the Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Uarrin investigation was closed and archived without anyone looking at the edits. The explanation was "Clerk note: AFD closed a few days ago. Closing." which, while true, misses the overall problem of there being a whole slew of accounts out there seemingly being used in tandem to make edits on a variety of articles in what is likely either a sockpuppet or meatpuppet situation to give a false sense of consensus. The AFD in question was only the event that triggered noticing of the suspicious activity, not the sole extent of the behavior under dispute. If you think it's not worth looking into yourself, perhaps you could reopen it to let someone else do it. I spent hours locating these accounts and providing explanations and diffs, and it's distubring to see that all be for naught just because an AFD is now closed. Milli Tharana Translation

The word Allah translates as God; where the English version of Milli Tharana reads "Allah" it has not been translated, you need to translate it to "God." Allah and God are not two seperate things, the only difference is that one is an English word and one is not. This translation is used in the (direct) quote from the Afghan constitution on the page in question, which you didn't both to read I take it? included here; "The national anthem of Afghanistan shall be in Pashto with the mention of "God is Greatest" as well as the names of the ethnicities of Afghanistan." Presently, the English translation does not say God is Greatest. Revert it from Allah to God.

Thanks for the kind words re Alan Berkman at DYK. He poses a fascinating question of redemptive justice, accomplishing so much to help people while being so actively involved in groups that wanted to destroy society using explosives and other acts of violence. The hook seemed so wrong to me in a way as it seemed to focus on a rather negative aspect of his life, though I hope the hook draws people in to read more about him. Your response was very insightful and I've expressed this black hat vs. white hat phenomenon on my user page in terms of how Wikipedia justice works, but it truly is difficult for all of us humans in general to see people in the shades of gray that almost all people are and not as stark choices of black or white. Berkman represents someone whose gray is a mix of tremendous amounts of both black and white, making it that much harder to see a middle ground for him. Normally endorsed checkuser requests are taken care of pretty quickly. But we have had an influx of cases now that school is out, and it does not help that the bot that maintains the transclusions and case pages is broken, taking up valuable clerk time... I was very interested in the fact that this article was deleted, well astounded might be the correct word. I read with interest the deletion log and I understand that the article has very little chance of passing. However I must assert that this does not mean that it is below the threshold of notability. I did a little research to see exactly how notable this bill is.

I went to http://stats.grok.se/ to look up how often this article was viewed:

  • Jan 2009 - 577 views
  • Feb 2009 - 4487 views
  • Mar 2009 - 3016 views
  • Apr 2009 - 2321 views
  • May 2009 - 6826 views
  • total - 17227 views

Even after it was deleted, in June, the deletion page was viewed 92 times.

To be fair, however, I ran view statistics for 10 random articles to see if the Blair Holt article received more views. Of the 10 I looked up, only two got more hits. This is hardly enough for a true statistical comparison, but it would indicate that the article was getting more hits than the majority of Wikipedia articles. This seems to indicate notability.

Next I went to Google to see how many Web hits I would get if I looked it up. For Blair Holt bill, I get 1,120,000 hits. I went to Google News and discovered there have been thousands of news stories on the bill as well.

As a final note, I was at the Utah State Republican convention where it was brought up and discussed by Rep. Jason Chaffetz, which indicates that despite the fact that there is only one sponsor, the bill is receiving considerable buzz in congress.

The bill is notable for another reason. It delegates powers reserved for the congress in the Constitution (the right to make laws) to one person, namely the Attorney General.

Given all this, I can only conclude that the article, and the bill are indeed notable enough to merit inclusion in Wikipedia.

I'm looking for comments on John Christie (murderer)

Hello Jake Wartenberg,

I've requested a peer review for the article on John Christie (murderer) and I'm looking for feedback from people interested in serial killers. John Christie was a British serial killer from the 1940s and 50s who murdered a number of women but was also controversially involved in another murder trial, where he gave what's now considered perjured evidence against a fellow tenant. The case generated a lot of controversy in the UK. I'm hoping to turn the article into a featured article, so I'm looking for any comments about potential problems or if there's anything that needs improving. The peer review is available here. rushed SPI

Something has gotten mixed up over at [4] with all the rush to move things around and apparently move multiple SPIs into one user account. You wrote that Flygonengar was indef'd, but that isn't true he was only blocked for 31 hours. If he's supposed to be indef'd someone needs to have the blocking admin fix that. SPI section header problem

NuclearWarfare gave me your name in an ongoing discussion I've been having with him and Luna Santin about the problem with Section Headers. Rather than repeat them all, I will give you links to the 2 discussions:

From what I understand, the software problems have been corrected for the most part, and from what I've seen, the problem now is that when one SPI is introduced with section headers, the problems that occur now are because some SPIs are in the old form and some with section headers, so the sequencing gets hosed up. This is that situation which I set up in my sandbox and NuclearWarfare verified that this is what he saw when I tried to put through an SPI with section headers (BullRangifer had section headers, Egglianderou does not) [6]. I am trying to set up a "form" with section headers that would be transcluded correctly, and make it easier for the checkuser to go through the SPIs. Here is what I came up with (now both SPIs use the same new form): [7]. I just chose pink at random - the delination can be any color. If you have some time to look at it, I would appreciate it. Rvcx

I got an email from user:Rvcx asking me why he was blocked. I don't see a reason given on his/her talk page on-wiki (though the block log is self explanatory), and the SPI case is still open; it has other issues noted, and a note saying if in doubt on the current findings a third opinion wouldn't be unreasonable.

The "User:Benignprank" account is also blocked (by user:Mikaey). It's common done to block likely socks but then to only warn the main account (at least in the first instance) -- then see what happens.

Unless something has gone on that I'm unaware of, it might be premature to judge the SPI outcome, and also premature to block the Rvcx account (at least). Maybe unblock as a courtesy until the matter's concluded? Possibly (if inclined to add a condition) if Rvcx agrees he/she will voluntarily avoid editing Carly Fiorina for the time being to avoid issues while the case is open.

I think there was a bit of a misunderstanding on my part. I took your comments on the case (likely, given the behavioral) to mean that part was "finished", given the fact that the request to hold the case open was made in the context of the possibility of a third account. I was aware of the possibility that a decision to only warn Rcvx would be entirely valid, and I consulted Mikaey who informed me that he had not intentionally not blocked that account. Two days as admin and already you helped

Thanks for protecting Sooriyaseva against vandalism. I put a warning on the editor's page, but nothing seemed to be sinking in.

As an enthusiastic new admin, can I ask your advice on a problem that I've been tussling with? The details are in this request for mediation [9]. The person mainly responsible for the issue isn't negotiating. I tried presenting the matter in a limited scope to WP:BLP [10], but now it's been archived without comment one way or the other. The problem, especially as presented to BLP, doesn't seem overly ambiguous, so I'm confused why more definitive statements aren't forthcoming? Hi Jake,

My name is Jeff Titus. I just received an email through my info@jefftitus.com address from a fan named Brian in Seattle, WA (is it good netiquette to share email addresses here, I'm happy to do so).

He said that he tried to start a page on Wikipedia.org about me (he sent me a link to earlier and it didn't even have a photo of me or much content). It was almost immediately deleted due to "sock puppetry". He sent me your name in a screenshot as the person who was recorded as deleting the page.

I'm not worried about being listed on wikipedia, necessarily, although I am certainly referenced on Michael Manring's page ref>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Manring</ref> under his Discography / Collaborations section. I thought that perhaps one day my guitar playing and recorded works would one day, in fact, merit a mention. I just finished a short stint of concerts with Alex de Grassi and Michael Manring, which was an honor, but I'm definitely not as well-known as either of them.

Regardless, I'm not sure there is anything that can be done, but as he did contact me about it and I am honored by his attempt, I thought I would follow-up with you directly and ask if there's anything that would allow him to post the page in some other form as it would clearly benefit me when people are looking for more info about my music.

Thanks for keeping it real on Wikipedia. I'm sure your action was totally appropriate. :)

It was also not in compliance with our licensing policy, having been taken from here. There was some confusion, as the behavior of the account your fan was using was similar some other ones, and we have a policy prohibiting use of multiple accounts by one user to avoid scrutiny.
