Monash University (informally Monash), is a public university based in Melbourne, Victoria. It was founded in 1958 and is the second oldest university in the state, although is the youngest member of Australia's Group of Eight. The university is also a member of the ASAIHL. In 2010, Monash was ranked 61st in the world by the QS World University Rankings.[2]

Monash enrols just under 60,000 students, including approximately 16,500 postgraduate students and approximately 21,000 international students,[4] making it the largest university in Australia .

The university’s research and coursework programs are provided through ten faculties: Art & Design, Arts, Business and Economics, Education, Engineering, Information Technology, Law, Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences, Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences and Science. The university is also home to research facilities and centres such as Monash Science Technology Research and Innovation Precinct (STRIP), the Monash University Wind Tunnel Facility, the Australian Stem Cell Centre, the Centre for Electron Microscopy, the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute and the Monash Immunology and Stem Cell Laboratories.

Monash encompasses eight campuses: six in Victoria (Clayton, Caulfield, Berwick, Peninsula, Parkville and Gippsland), one in Malaysia and one in South Africa.[8] The university also has a research and teaching centre in Prato, Italy[9] and a joint research academy with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) in Mumbai, India.[10] .
