My RfA[edit]

I have decided to withdraw my nomination, due to growing oppose votes due to my lack of experence (and because of userboxes?). I will now aim to continue, and broadern my scope from userboxes. I will accept a nomination, should one be made, in 1-2 months. Ian13ID:540053 18:23, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Articles For Deletion[edit]

Hi, a while ago you made some comments about the presence of bible-verse articles, and/or source texts of the bible, and you may therefore be interested in related new discussions:

Hello ,thanks for opening my eyes.I am such a loser,I dont even know what a admin does and i have nominated myself.from now on,i will leave edit summaries.I am barely two months old in wiki and i was audacious enough to ask for adminship.Sorry for wasting your time.--Jayanthv86 15:27, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please do not take my comments on your RfA as a personal insult. I don't think you're a loser. You are a great Wikipedia user, but unfortunately you do not yet meet the criteria for admniship. RfA can be quite a harsh place for new beginners. But when people write oppose votes they're not criticising you as a person, they're judging whether you're ready to become an admin. Scripture Union's Transformers holiday[edit]

Heh. No, nothing to do with Transformers, and not even much to do with Transformers. It's one of two descendants of Scripture Union's Computing And Electronics Holiday, which ran as a single holiday until it outgrew the site in 1995; it then split into two, Livewires for 12-15 year olds, and Transformers for 14-18 year olds. Our website is http://transformers.org.uk/, and our sister holiday's is http://www.livewires.org.uk/. TSP 12:36, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for your message. I have to admit I expected your RfA to succeed as you seem to be a really great editor. If you are ever nominated for adminship again I'll be sure to support you. JIP | Talk 22:24, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Prinsessakerho[edit]

You've previously discussed Template:Prinsessakerho. It is used in only two articles - or rather it was until I removed it following the deletion of the article to which it links. I am minded to simply delete the template, what say you? - Just zis  Guy, you know? [T]/[C] AfD? 11:42, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Please accept my embarrassingly belated thank you for supporting my RfA, which much to my surprise passed 102/1/1, earning me minor notoriety. I am grateful for all the supportive comments, and have already started doing the things poeple wanted me to be able to do. And hopefully nothing else... Just zis  Guy, you know? Hello fellow Helsinkian :)[edit]

Yes i am a Finnish-Swede, and fourth generation Helsinkian :) Yes, i see we've done a lot for the article (it was quite a mess before we started), i gotta say our double-checking eachother has IMO been quite well-working. But as i also commented on the candidation of the article, we have to admit it might not yet be quite up to FA-standards YET.

  • I think we could for instance have a bit less pictures competing for space with the text as someone pointed out in the comments, they could be put into the sites picture gallery at the bottom (i brutally ripped this idea from Stockholm)... Also let's hope wikimedia get's more interesting quality pictures.
  • We could need some more "special information" about Helsinki, any city article features basic info such as population and tourisme attractions and blahblah, which we have! but what makes wikipedia-articles interesting are usually bits of semitrivia information as for instance Stadin Slangi, finnish bi-linguality (all signs in two languages) or under geography the fact that Helsinki is much warmer than many cities on the same lattitudes such as Anchorage, due to the gulf stream.

Storm clouds ... and silver linings Thank you for your support on my RfA.
Unfortunately, it failed to reach consensus. Nonetheless, it proved an opportunity to establish contacts and cooperation with many supportive editors, which will be beneficial to editing Wikipedia in the future. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters (t @)

Hi JIP! I see that this article you created was deleted, I have put it up at WP:DRV, can you take a look? Sjakkalle (Check!) 09:31, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • The worst part was the brief hesitation part ("Would there be a city with that name? A historic name or smthg of the sort? After all, it is on the wikipedia"). I had to check it out. :) --Cretanforever 15:43, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Törö. I went and found a copyvio in the article. Details are on the talk page and I could use your help in what to do and doing it. --Kizor 13:28, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay - two things. First, how should I phrase the GDFL licence? Permission to use, permission to edit, permission to have other GDFL projects use? Did I miss anything? Second, what happens if she says no? --Kizor 15:37, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have to read the GFDL myself to know its exact contents. But its basic point is that it allows people free use of the material, both to view and to edit. It further forbids people from using GFDL content with a more restrictive license. If you see a GFDL work, you may not take part of it and put it in a commercial work. If the person at the University of Turku refuses the license, then the material has to be removed and replaced with something that is a Wikipedia editor's own work. My RFA[edit]

Hi JIP/Archive 10, thanks for participating in my RfA discussion. Unfortunately, my fellow Wikipedians have decided at this time that I am not suitable to take on this additional responsibility, as the RfA failed with a result of 66/27/5 (71.0% support). If you voted in support of my request, thank you! If you decided to oppose me at this time, then I hope that if I do choose to reapply in the future, the effort I will make in the meantime to improve and expand my contributions to Wikipedia may persuade you to reconsider your position. All the best, Proto t c 15:29, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfA Thanks![edit]

Okay, this is perhaps a bit overdue, but thank-you for your support in my recent RfA! I passed with a final vote count consensus of (82/1/0), which was a lot of support that I really appreciate. I'll try to live up to the expectations; and on that note, if there's ever something I do wrong (or don't do right), please spit in my general direction. Cheers! --PeruvianLlama(spit) 05:10, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain why you voted to delete this, when it could simply be merged into a relevant article. - Mgm|(talk) 10:11, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Because I feel that while the game itself is notable, individual creatures appearing in it are not. JIP | Talk 10:15, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Using that criteria, shouldn't we delete other fictional characters such as Frank Burns or Robin Masters?
      • No. Computer games don't usually have such important characterisations in their plots as books or TV series do. There are exceptions, such as Guybrush Threepwood or Lara Croft, but based on the information on the Leets article, I don't see how Leets are any more notable than any other creature appearing in a computer game. Should I start individual articles on the various enemies appearing in Jumpman, for example? JIP | Talk 23:22, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
        • They may not be notable to you, because you might not be as into the game, but others may well be. The characters on dungeons and gragons don't mean much to me, but they have entries. What makes them more important?

File:Plunger 250x410.jpg

Thanks for taking the time to vote in my RfA, which passed with a final vote of 54/2/1 despite my obvious inadequacy for the job. I'll do my level best to use the mop and bucket — or, as I said in my RfA, plunger — responsibly. Of course, in the best tradition of politicans everywhere, I've already broken a campaign promise and blocked a vandal (after I said "I don't anticipate using the blocking tool very often"). Nevertheless, I'll try not to let the unbridled power corrupt me. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 14:56, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ursula K. LeGuin disambig[edit]

Hello,

You recently added a disambig to the Ursula K. LeGuin article. I'm having trouble understanding how anyone could arrive at the Ursula K. LeGuin article mistakenly when they intended to go to Englischer Garten (Munich). Can you enlighten me? Ikkyu2 19:48, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was only an experimental disambig link. I did not intend for it to stay on the page. JIP | Talk 19:50, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
