Anderson Mill

The Anderson Mill, Texas CDP is not the same as the historic Anderson Mill community in the Handbook of Texas, which is several miles to the west near Cypress Creek. This is a common problem with CDPs; see Fort Hood, for example, which is currently serving double purpose for the fort itself & the CDP. If there's a standard Wikipedia way of dealing with this, I haven't seen it. Deh 03:48, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Watershed Maps

(moved from image talk page) This is a very nice watershed map...I like it a lot better than the simple marked up county maps I've been using for other rivers. Would you mind sharing how you made it? Thanks! JFreeman 02:48, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, I'm trying to imitate the really cool maps that Kmusser did for the Brazos, Rio Grande, and Red rivers. It wasn't easy.

I'm using some free mapping software called Quantum GIS [1]. You can then download the map "layers" from the USGS [2] and tinker with those. I also had to use Microsoft Access to edit one of the database files that comes with each layer: this was the only way I could figure out to do things like "turn off every single river except the Guadalupe".

It took me the better part of a weekend to figure everything out - if you have any specific questions, let me know and I'll be happy to help! It was fairly interesting to play around with, and now I can always have a backup career as a cartographer... :) Kuru ^talk 03:17, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi - Thanks for reverting the vandalism to Denver, Colorado just now, and leaving a note on the user's talk page. Checking the contribs, I noticed he'd also made some other vandalistic edits (which I took care of). I was running Lupin's Filter recent changes script to watch for vandalism, and I apparently clicked on the "warn" link for the wrong message after I had reverted the Nick Gulas change. You proposed this page for deletion back in July. That was inappropriate, since it had been vandalised. You needed to have at least looked at the page history for that: it was not a newly-created page. In fact you managed have a page of value speedied. Puggle777

Thankyou for your patience JFreeman, you will see that I intended to change the edit on COLORADO back (an extra t on 'the') but your anti-vandalism protocols did it first. There was another edit test (land area) that I changed by 1 and changed back. Thankyou for alerting me to the sandbox page, I won't experiment with real pages again. Looking forward to becoming part of the communnity!

George Strait Edits

I put up that link because that site represents an accurate picture of him as an artist it also offers exclusive information from the label he is on. I feel it is unfair to allow unofficial links but not the ones from the label that actually has the correct information. Also the information on that page is approved by the artist for use. It is simply a place for fans to learn more. Is there a way to resolve this?

Thanks for the information. It seems many other artists have links to their profiles within their labels webpage as well. I just think it's only fair to show the artist approved links as well as unofficial links. If wikipedia were only to have unofficial likns it would seem bias. I have only had one other encounter of this type and that user and I resolved it. I did replace the link but I also put up a message on the talk section.
