I am sorry this happened: what you did was not vandalism, many editors do not know what vandalism really means. As for your edit, while "deity" may be more correct, it is generally translated in English as "god" for whatever reason, perhaps to parallel the original Arabic more closely since Allah is translated as the proper noun "God". --♥pashtun ismailiyya 02:58, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

"Deity" is gender and species neutral. God or god is male and is human or humanoid. The correct term is, therefore, "deity" not "god"-- as in "I confess that there is no deity but God; I confess that Muhammad is God's messenger" (i.e., the correct translation of the Islamic confessional for conversion). The Arabic term "Ilaah" (Semitic, "El") should be always translated into English as "deity". M. IzadyIzady (talk) 07:08, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

This may not be the right place to report this, but I have spent nearly an hour trying to find the 'right place' to contact a Wiki editor. Someone has used my IP to post an inflamatory "correction" to an article on the Iraqi Mass Graves. I am the author of many books and articles on the plight of the Kurds and the Shiites, and would be the last person to justify their murder and torment--as the "correction" to the article has done. As a result, you have slated ME as a "vandal." That is a double jeopardy. Please remove those "correction" and my IP as the source. It is insulting and defamatory, never mind inaccurate. Ali ar-Rida

Hey - I noticed when reverting an image vandalism by a random IP that you added the sentence "His mother, TKTM (vocalization uncertain) was a native of the port of Murcia in Andalucia (southeastern Spain), presumably a Muslim." This contradicts the existing material a sentence later and needs a citation... his mother's name was Najma according to common understanding. I'm sure you have a cite, though, so just dig it on up and we'll figure out how to word the resulting sentence to include both sets of information. Ogress _smash! 07:32, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

In all the biographies one finds at the Shrine Library in Mashhad, the Imam's mother's true name is recorded as "TKTM of Murcia", and add to it, "alias Najma." The name must have been proto-Spanish, since none of the sources recording it knows for certain how to vocalize it. M. IzadyIzady (talk) 07:09, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Hopefully that will provide the specific information needed for this volatile and sensitive district that is already entering into mainstream news from the Middle East and the Gulf. Dear Alefbe Alefbe. Someone keeps deleting my editing of the page on Imam Malik ibn Anas. I keep writing a logically accurate and conciliatory addition to the entry, and he/she keeps removing it and placing a prejudicial, baseless piece in its stead! Can you do something about it? The following is what I keep adding to his/her, but he immediately replaces it by an anti-Shia fabrication.

Views on Shi'ites

Along with Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Malik was a student of the Shiite 6th imam, Ja'far al-Sadiq who is the law giver of the Shiites. As such, Maliki and Hanafi schools of jurisprudence are quite close to the Shia system in their general approach to Islamic jurisprudence. In fact, like the Shia, Imam Malik asks this followers to do the prayers with both hands dangling down on the side instead of joing on the chest (as all other Sunnis do), and like the Shia, keep their eyes straight on "facing the Qibla" instead of looking down, as do all other Sunnis (see the article Maliki on this point). Therefore, derogatory pronouncements ascribed to Imam Malik abusive of the Shiites, are obviously of later fabrication to divide Muslims from one another at the altar of nifaq (disunity). One of these fabrications is a passage ascribed to the great Imam Malik, that purports when the latter "was asked about them and he replied, "Do not speak to them nor narrate from them, for surely they are liars." [Minhaaj as-Sunnah, 1/37] One wonders how would Malik have remained a student of Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq, the founder of the Shiite jurisprudence, if he considered the Shiites "liars"? It is a sad fact that today the hypocrets in their attemtp to divide Muslim masses, have set out on demonizing the Shia, to the point of fabricating hateful sayings for the Islamic grandees such as Imam Malik or Imam Abu Hanifa.

Dear Kurdo, isn't the "discussion section" for discussing one's idea? What do you suggest it is then? And what is wrong with my "own idea"? Whose idea should it be? I understand that Mr. Izady. But wikipedia is not the medium to publish your thoughts and research even if you are an scholar. As a matter of fact, there are many editors here who are scholars in real life. I would recommend that you publish your work in a peer-reviewed journal, and have another editor cite it in those wikipedia pages, in order to avoid WP:COI. Even then, other editors may argue that your ideas violate WP:Fringe, specially on Geber ‎ where most of the cited academic works refer to his place of Birth as Tus, Khorasan. --Kurdo777 (talk) 08:52, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Ok Kurdo, now I understand your issue: an Iranian nationalist wanting to grab the heritage of others for his own people. You adding of "an" to the word "scholar" gives you away. It is not Escholar but Scholar. Only Iranians make such a grammatical mistake!! Wow. It is so funny how one's own true stripes come through when ***pretending*** to have the good of the public at heart, while just really promoting one's own agenda. Geber/ Jabir ibn Hayyan WAS from Tartus, Syria, not Tus, Iran. "Most of the cited academic works" you mention must be Iranian in their composition and, obviously, to your own liking. How about checking, say, Encyclopaedia Iranica or Britannica, or Americana, or Islamica? See if any of those list Geber/Jabir as a Persian from Tus? And you are presumably one of those "editor scholars" you brazenly note? It is unbelievable how folks like you end up being the "impartial" arbiters and editors of Wiki? Also, in the past, I have written articles such as this one, that have been quickly removed by someone, before I ever got the chance to expand it, add footnotes, and the like. Your logic--or rather, the lack thereof, would be amusing, if it was not so misguided and transparently bigoted. What exactly is "original" (viz, unsupported proposal) in my correction to the article? I simply use the arguments presented in this SAME article--Malik was a student of the Shias 6th Imam (the law giver of the Shias)--to dispel the bigoted argument that Imam Malik was an anti-Shia like Osama Bin Laden is today? Just because the bigot who wrote the original paragraph can produce a dubious passage to support his bigoted views, it does not make it correct. One could produce material from Hitler's Mein Kampf (yes, it is well-known and it is published) to "prove" Jews are evil. Would Wiki allows that in its pages?

As to similarities between Maliki and Shia rituals, I use another article in Wiki which I cross reference (Maliki), to arrive at a proposal that Imam Malik would have wanted peace and harmony among Muslims not hatred and bigotry. But of course, this bothers your prejudicial, anti-Shia feelings. Shame on you and on Wiki for allowing this to become a platform for hatred and religious bigotry. Your touch is surely a "Supertouch" in narrowmindedness and prejudice~~izady

Thank you Dwayne. It has been placed by someone under the Anglicized title of "Hamuns". The terminal s is English plural, and misleading. It would be much better to restore it to what I had it under: Hamun.

Also, I have asked for the help of the editors to rid Wikipedia from its increasingly anti-Shia tone. Every time I edit and tone down the religious bigotry that I find in the texts, it is immediately restored to its original anti-Shia text. Most recently, I corrected the article on Imam Malik to reflect his urbane and non-prejudicial nature vis a vis the Shias. Immediately it was restored to its bigoted form by one your self-styled, hatemonguering editors. Read his laughable excuse for doing so.

About the assertion of "stolen" Maps

someone, probably you, made an assertion here:

that there is "stolen" data somewhere in Wikipedia.

I am just another editor with no special rights or anything, but I would like to help resolve this if you have not done so already. Can you please amplify your assertion? If you can point to specific problems, we can work together to fix them.

I think I understand why you are upset, but we need to be very precise. First, you used the term "stolen" and the phrase "I hold Wikpedia responsible." These can be construed as legal terms, but not precise legal terms. Unfortunately, things rapidly get messy when lawyers get involved, and you should really try to avoid this unless you feel that you have no choice. If any editor thinks that you (or anyone) is threatening a legal action against Wikipedia, then we are forced by policy to turn the matter over to the Wikimedia foundation's attorney and block the editor who made the threat. This is not the best way to resolve the matter quickly. Instead, I would prefer to assist you an any way I can to identify and resolve the problem to which you refer.

From my (very brief and non-professional) review of your work, It appears that you have spent a lot of time collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and explaining data about the religion and culture of a particular area. The results are impressive. As a citizen of the world, I thank you.

Now to specifics.

First: "stolen." Your work is protected by Copyright. Copyright protects the creative content of your work. It does not protect the data itself, nor does it protect any non-creative aspects of the presentation of that data. The fact that you worked very hard to create your maps ("sweat of the brow") is not considered creative. I'm just a layman, so if this is unclear you should consult a lawyer who specializes in copyright law.

Next: lack of references. If you have found material in Wikipedia that uses the facts reported in your work but that does not reference any source, you may challenge it and have it removed. (I can help if you do not know how to do this.)

Next: Plagiarism. If you have found material that used your work without violating copyright law, but that does not attribute your work, then the article (or image) can be modified to attribute your work. You can make the change yourself or I can help you with this.

Finally, If you so desire, and if you feel that the maps we are using are inferior to your maps, you can place your maps on Wikimedia commons under a CC-BY-SA license and replace the maps we are using with your maps, together with with all the approprite attributions to your original works.
