Welcome!

Welcome to Wikipedia, Ian3055! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over those first. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk Pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? :)

I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Acetic'Acid 18:44, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Merging

Whenever you think enough people have discussed, such a number is not constant but rather proportional to the article's visibility (e.g. George Bush would need half the project ;-)). Just read the discussion and say to yourself, do I have enough support? Redwolf24 (talk) Attention Washingtonians! 07:31, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

HSBC Bank AS

I noticed you are doing a major re-working of HSBC. You may want to think about merging HSBC Bank AS with it at the same time. I was going to add merge notices when I saw the in-use notice. --JiFish(Talk/Contrib) 20:17, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Okay, do what you think is best. Thanks for replying. --JiFish(Talk/Contrib) 22:42, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

Please stop

Please stop the out-of-process recreation of previously deleted pages. Thank you, --MarkSweep (call me collect) 20:07, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Give it a day or two, and then we'll see where we are. AmE-0 may be recreated, but definitely without the condescending tone that used to be there. That's a general problem with the -0 and -5 dialect templates, and we need to decide globally what to do about those. --MarkSweep (call me collect) 20:24, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Slogan field

I disagree, a straw poll does not equal consensus. The straw poll involved no discussion or debate between users, only votes with an explanatory statement. Kurieeto 23:06, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Your explanation of why there was no discussion may be correct - But another factor may just be that straw polls aren't condusive for discussion because that is not their purpose, their purpose is simply to collect votes. The time frame of the straw poll is also of issue, as without an initial defined end-date some users may have simply viewed the matter after some time as being inactive. I'd also question if such a small sample size demonstrates practical consensus. Hopefully some discussion will be raised on the talk page in the next few days. Kurieeto 23:25, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Re: HKCOTW - HSBC

Thanks so much. It's so great that the articles are sooo organised. You must have paid lots of efforts ;-) . As for the nomination of the article for the group, I guess we can do so at the Business and Economics WikiProject, while at the same time posting a link from the UK and HK COTWs. But since the parent of the group (i.e. HSBC Holding plc) is headquartered in London in the UK, I won't object having the nomination at the UK COTW. Cheers. :-) — Instantnood 20:09, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Any one of the COTWs would do, as long as the nomination linked from the other relevant COTWs. — Instantnood 19:50, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Nope, I don't mind one bit if you update it. I would do it myself, but I'm a bit busy with university midterms right now :) Zippanova

HKCOTW

Flower of Hong Kong - Bauhinia Blakeana
The current HKCOTW is HSBC .
Please help improve it to featured article standard.
Every week, a Hong Kong-related topic, stub or nonexistent article is picked to be the HK Collaboration of the Week. The previous HKCOTW was Hongkonger - see improvements.

Hi I'm Joe from Droitwich Spa

Deletion review

Hey Ian, you seem to have added Template:User AmE-0 to requests for unprotection. That ain't the right place for it, so I moved on over to where it belongs. I've listed it in the correct place, at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Userbox debates. Hope that helps a little. -- Dragoonmac - If there was a problem yo I'll solve it 23:44, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Am-e

No Problem Ian, mind if I call you Ian. While I'm personally nuetral on the userbox debate, I don't think power should be abused. Hope you don't have too much trouble in the future. -- Dragoonmac - If there was a problem yo I'll solve it 20:49, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
