Deletion of Miles Schuman

Miles Schuman is a 13 year old rockstar and radio host. He is well respected in the industry and at only a young age has gotten all this success, and achieved it all by himself with no help. I ask that you not delete it the page as he is famous. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikimakerloverrock123 (talkcontribs) 01:30, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Can you provide reliable sources? - Amaury (talk) 01:31, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Your RFA.. And some good mentors.

Hi there Emily! Regarding that discussion on the IRC on your RFA nomination; I strongly suggest you to get an RFa mentor, User:Kudpung, and User:Dennis Brown are great mentors and will guide you towards your RFa! If you have any comments about, post on my talk page or discuss it on IRC whichever is fine with you. Godspeed! Prabash.Akmeemana 23:40, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

I'll think about it. --I dream of horses (T) @ 00:02, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the mention :) However, on Wikipedia we don't actually teach people nowadays to be admins. It is generally assumed that candidates for adminship will have been around long enough and have accrued their knowledge through regular editing and participation in community discussions. There was such a mentoring project a long time ago but it got deprecated for that reason. There is however a wealth of advice available for potential candidates; it starts here and there are also links in it to every other admin advice page. Worth reading. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 00:30, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
My review page might have some helpful info, but Kudpung is right. You don't really "make" admins, they usually come from editors with broad experience in writing and positive contributions in contentious situations. I didn't prepare to be an admin, for example, I just found myself realizing I had enough experience to be one (after over 5 years) and decided I wanted to serve more. The biggest mistake an admin hopeful can do is start to hang out in admin areas (AN/ANI/AN3/ARB) just to learn how to be an admin. It is usually better to get involved with policy development, some new page patrol, close some simple RFCs and approach it from that side, to see if it suits you. Being admin isn't sexy, most of it is pretty mundane stuff. Dennis Brown |  | WER 01:07, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, you guys. I dream of horses(T) @ 02:20, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
I got to say, that was well put by Dennis Brown and Kudpung, I understand why they got rid of the admin teaching program a while back, but though i'm not an admin I must say it looks like 100% serious work which takes a high amount of maturity and effort, literally like how Dennis said " Being admin isn't sexy, most of it is pretty mundane stuff." now that's one great way to summarize that! my personal tips and tricks:
  • Stroll away from automated edits and move towards more "hands on" sorta work.
  • Awareness of Wikipedia policies and guidelines.
Just follow all the above advice by me and the other admins, and I guarantee you will have a decent Rfa! Best Wishes Prabash.Akmeemana 02:39, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
I doubt that I'll "stroll away" from anti-vandal work--I kind of figure that helps Wikipedia.
However, I did do a random page patrol recently, and plan to do similar tasks in the future. I dream of horses (T) @ 04:42, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
I do random pages as well. As for anti-vandal work, there is no need to stroll away if it is what you like and you are good at it, although you don't have to rely solely on automated edits. My automated edits are less than 10%[1], although much of my work requires scripts, at SPI. Yours are at 65% [2]. That isn't "wrong", it just means your primary means of communicating has been templates. A hand written note is much slower, but is often much more effective at getting the desired result, as is follow up with the editor. Obviously, it depends on the editor. Dennis Brown |  | WER 08:50, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
Erm, you don't have to stop anti-vandal work, but I also see you have the rollback tool enabled on your account, well do an RC Patrol and don't get trigger happy . I also have yet to find an admin that uses Huggle and if there are its probably the developer. My automated edits are around 70% with over half of my contribs in article space, but in some cases I do an RC patrol and use twinkle and in some cases the rollback button. That's what I meant by "hands on" work, just whenever you are free, chop up some articles, rv vandalism on RC patrol, help answer questions at the Wikipedia help desk and so on. Start Snuggle

IRC office hours for wiki-mentors and Snuggle users

Hi. We're organizing an office hours session with the Teahouse to bring in mentors from across the wiki to try out Snuggle and discuss it's potential to support mentorship broadly. The Snuggle team would appreciate it if you would come and participate in the discussion. We'll be having it in #wikimedia-office connect on Wed. July 17th @ 1600 UTC. See the agenda for more info. --EpochFail(talkwork), Technical 13 (talk), TheOriginalSoni (talk) 20:14, 12 July 2013 (UTC) This message was delivered to you by: Prabash.Akmeemana 20:14, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Trouted

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

You have been trouted for: Telling me on your userpage that I can make you troutable. :P Revent (talk) 11:04, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi I dream, I'm wondering what discussion led to the rationale for removing a copypaste template from the article; I'd left a message for Moonriddengirl asking whether content from a defense department page, which much of the text appeared to duplicate, was exempted from copyright concerns. Any light you can shed would be appreciated. Beyond that, the article may have further issues, but first things first. Thanks, 76.248.144.216 (talk) 19:03, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Because the article creator claimed only the article title came from a website. If I'm wrong in assuming her honesty, please re-add it. Thanks.I dream of horses (T) @ 19:26, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
I'm dubious. I've added a paraphrase template, for now, since the text is so similar to that of several other sites, including [3]. The basis for the current version was this edit [4], which sure looks like it was copied from somewhere. 76.248.144.216 (talk) 19:54, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
In fact--and this is why I asked for Moonriddengirl's help, because she's expert at sussing this out--it's about the same as here [5], so it would be good to know which version came first. Thanks, 76.248.144.216 (talk) 20:06, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
