Change Login Name

Is that possible to change my login name from Renxu350 to RENXU350?
Mr Hersfold, do you have the priviledge of doing that? - Renxu350 (talk) 07:41, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

I do not, however you can make a request to have it changed here: WP:CHU. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:59, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi, this user has requested that you look at their helpme request. Thanks, neuro(talk) 20:53, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

This user is actually requesting that you review their unblock request yourself, as the original blocking admin. He's posted an explanation: long story short, he says the IPs might overlap because he and friends of his were at times using the same computer. FWIW, this account does seem to have a good track record. Mangojuicetalk 17:00, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm taking a look now. Thanks for the heads-up. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:00, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
And he's been unblocked, with a barnstar as well for owning up to the other account's actions. Thanks for giving me the chance to look over this, I do appreciate it. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:52, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: Unblock

Thanks for everything you have done, and sorry for putting you through more than you should have had to go through. Also, thanks for the IP block, it should prevent any more issues like that. I have two last questions, then we can both be off on our merry ways ;)

1. What should I tell User:Mario080595 to do now? Can he safely create another account without causing any more drama? (On his home computer, of course)

2. Concerning rollback - as I use this to use Huggle, and my rollback rights have been revoked. Should I go for a while reverting using undo or Twinkle and then apply for it again, or should I do something else?

Again, thanks for your time, and sorry for putting you through this drama.

Inferno, Lord of Penguins 21:20, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

I've reinstated your rollback privileges; the block had nothing to do with it, so there shouldn't be any issue regranting it. As for Mario, I'll talk with YellowMonkey about unblocking him; he should not need to open another account. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:49, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Edit Summary

Hi Hersfold, long time no see. I want to report an incident involving User:Dance-pop. This user continupusly edits without any edit summaries and reverts any changes made by other users especially to articles related to musician Lady GaGa. He/She has been warned before, but still didnot feel like doing anything about it. So i went ahead and warned the user about these disruptive edits. As usual started the shouting and abusing. I again asked to assume good faith, but it fell to deaf ears. So i have come here to ask for your help. Can you check what can be done about this? He/She needs to learn to assume good faith and respect others changes. "Legolas" (talk) 04:59, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

It looks like a few other administrators have already asked her the same; I'll keep an eye on it, but I'd rather not pile on since other people seem to be aware of the situation. Nothing yet requires administrative action. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:39, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Hey, Hersfold!

I have great news!

  1. I have founded an active WikiProject, WikiProject Koei Warriors Games. I and two other users constantly work hard on properly editing exactly 41 articles in our scope right now.
  2. My and my family's user-logo-for-Wikipedia-account custom has caught on!
  3. I have handed out the rarely distributed Wikipedia Administrator's Award for the second time!

I had to tell someone, and I almost never catch you online at the same time as I. -BlueCaper (talk) 16:52, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

My Impressions of Wikipedia

First of all, let me express my contempt for your statement "Well, I'll be hovering around your talk page and contributions for the next hour or so." It seems that the moderators of Wikipedia are power tripping and being condescending.

I am in a band called Behind Yellow Lines. We have recently begun playing more shows, and we are developing a larger fan base. I thought it would be a good idea to write a Wikipedia article about the band's history to let the fans know more about us and have it open to everyone in a professional-looking manner. Little did I know I would run into moderators bent on deleting an article because they don't deem it to be notable. I proceeded to try to get the article back up, but I continued to run into more moderators who enjoyed defending their abusive peers.

Overall, my first impressions of the inner workings of Wikipedia are very negative. My image of the Free Encyclopedia I once loved as a mechanism for the spread of information has been tarnished by its seemingly abusive and harsh moderators.

--Deucemeister (talk) 06:39, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Articles about organizations shouldn't be written by employees/members. It introduces Conflict of Interest. They are better posted from a third party as that is more likely to have a neutral point of view. Knippschild (talk)
Sorry, my mistake. What I was saying was that my article was a primary source. Who better to tell the story of a band's history than one of its members? --Deucemeister (talk) 06:51, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Deuce, I'm sorry you feel that way. Unfortunately, Wikipedia has adopted several policies and guidelines to help keep our project to a manageable size. One of these is, as you've noticed, our notability guideline. We require that all articles demonstrate that their subjects are notable in some way, most generally that they are covered by multiple reliable, secondary sources. Certain subjects may also meet a more specific guideline; in your band's case, that would be WP:MUSIC. Articles which don't establish how they meet these guidelines are deleted without discussion, as the community has determined that these sorts of deletions are non-controversial (see WP:CSD for more information).
Another of our goals is to keep our articles neutral. Wikipedia has a world-wide reader base, and so that our articles can be usable by everyone, it is important that we keep our articles neutral. As Knippschild mentioned, we have a guideline which relates to this concerning conflicts of interest. Since you are a member of this band, you would have such a conflict of interest. As a result, we would ask you not edit about the article, but rather wait until someone else creates the article. This way, you know that your band is notable, and you can help propose edits to the article on it's discussion page.
Finally, Wikipedia is a collaborative project, and so we ask that editors maintain a certain behavioral standard to help support that end. The majority of those standards are outlined at WP:Civility. Referring to other user's pages as being "immature" isn't the most polite thing to do, and flat-out calling them idiots is not acceptable. That user brought your edits to my attention, which is why I've become involved. I'm not monitoring your contributions out of any effort to be abusive; I was mainly checking to see when you responded, so that I would be able to respond in kind (as I did).
I hope this has helped to explain most of your concerns, however I am open to further questions if you have them. In the meantime, please take some time to relax a bit; Wikipedia has no deadline, so it's not urgent that things get done now, and there's no need to be accusing people of power-tripping. We are here to help, if you're willing to accept it. Happy editing. Hersfold (t/a/c) 06:57, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

User:Roejoe1/Online Dating Service

I suspect that you did not apply due dilligance when deleting this article. I had declined a speedy already, and there was a clear note on the user's talk page from me regarding the article. You made no comments on neither that user's talk page nor my own.

Can I ask that you restore this article, re-prod it, and leave a note on the user's talk, User:Roejoe1? The article will be deleted in five days, and is on my watchlist already.

While the odds that they will turn into a good contributor are small, they are not zero. Per the above, the risk is zero.

brenneman 07:39, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

NB - You failed to delete User talk:Roejoe1/Online Dating Service. In the event that you decline to restore, please delete this.

Technically, prods don't apply to userspace pages, and quite honestly I don't see that article going anywhere. I'll restore it, but please do keep an eye on it - it does fall under G11 as it currently stands. Thanks for contacting me. Hersfold (t/a/c) 07:43, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

User:Roejoe1/Online Dating Service(Revisited)

I have read the previous note above. However, I am curious as to why the spam page in reference is not being deleted. Could you please fill me in? I am only asking because it seems like a blatant attempt(the page in question) at link spamming. I replaced the web address on the page with "spam', but it still seems like an advert. Thanks a lot!WackoJacko (talk) 09:37, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

(Hersfold) Thank you for that. I'm fairly certain that you're right about this article, and do understand that only things in article space are actually "articles" and that according to the letter of the law this shouldn't be prodded. But as the editor in question made a goof-faith if ham-fisted attempt at communication on the article talk page, I thought it worth the extra time to try a little sugar. 80% he'll never edit again, but *shrug*
(WacoJacko) Once, when dinsaurs roamed the earth, I was well-known for spam-smacking. But in this case the guy just did something that's really natural if you don't know the rules: He made an article on his company. He wasn't actually spamming the link around, it was only in the one article. It's also important to note that an article like this doesn't have the multitude of internal links that drive WP's page ranks higher. And, as I noted above, he was trying to talk to us. Since I don't do mass-editting anymore, I've got the little extra time to try and nurture new editors.
Again, thanks to you both. And, ahhh, when I'm trying to speak carefully I always sound dreadfully brittle. Looking at my first post, I'm wincing. So, sorry for being so officious.
brenneman 11:31, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
I do see the reasoning now for it not being deleted, it was just on his user page, and there weren't a large amount of links. Thanks!WackoJacko (talk) 05:58, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

I have adopted...but Category:Wikipedians who have adopted in Adopt-a-user does not list me.

I put the Category: link in my user page, but I do not come up. Could you update the Category page somehow? -BlueCaper (talk) 20:32, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

User abusing others

Hey Hersfold. You remember i told you about User:Dance-pop who never assumes good faith, is a bad editor and continuously abuses people if confronted for his/her bad edits. Well the situation is getting out of control. Many users have started complaining about him and its really giving a headache. Especially me, User:Realist2 and User:Efe have continuously asked Dance-pop to change his ways and stop abusing others but our requests fell on deaf ears. Check our talkpages for further clarification. I want your help in this matter to raise an ANI. "Legolas" (talk) 13:24, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Done at WP:ANI#Disruption at Lady GaGa. Hersfold (t/a/c) 18:49, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for all your help regarding this matter. Hope he learns from this incident. "Legolas" (talk) 05:11, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Adoption

Hi, I've been scouting around for an adopter, and I think you might be a good fit. I often monitor Special:NewPages/Special:RecentChanges. I would like to get more experience on the article-editing side of things, but I'd also like to have someone to ask questions to (mostly CSD/AfD related). -Zeus-uc 20:28, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Sure, I can certainly help you around (although oddly enough it seems you've been around longer than I have ;-) ). I'm not the greatest article writer myself, as I tend to focus on the areas you do. What sorts of articles would you be interested in? Hersfold (t/a/c) 22:07, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Even though I've been around longer, I've only been actively involved for less than a year. I'm mostly interested in cleanup-related stuff, not so much creation. What is your take on this? I came across this which I'm pretty sure is fiction, but I'm not sure if they're the same person. -Zeus-uc 22:11, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
It's been deleted; that article was a clear violation of our Biographies of living people policy, and didn't really assert why she was notable either (you know how A7 works). An article could be made there (or rather at the title with correct capitalization) eventually, I'm sure, but it would need some pretty heavy referencing. Hersfold (t/a/c) 22:29, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm still a little hesitant with A7 when it's a big article because they seem more important, but I shouldn't do that I guess. You can reply here if you want, I'm watching the page. -Zeus-uc 22:33, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
That's actually a good thing; in this case, there were multiple problems with the article, and so it needed to go. If this article were about a company or something, though, it probably would be better to just prod it or something. It depends, but it usually is better to play it safe. Hersfold (t/a/c) 22:43, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Disruption at GaGa

Hello I am Dance-pop, and this "little convention" needs to stop, I have not put unreliable source into articles. Your examples are taken out of context, how about checking my user talk, and the others( Realist, etc). So before you disscuss the disruption, how about looking at both sides of the story (adims need to be fair). The two users Realist and Legalos are the real antagnists. Efe has done nothing wrong. So if you dont stop this I will go to someone with higher authority--this is not a therat, perhaps a warning.Kind Regards.

Admins need to be fair, assume good faith at all times. Dance-pop (talk) 00:20, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
I've actually been reviewing this for a few days now, and believe that Realist, etc. are correct in that your sources are not appropriate. You're welcome to explain this in more detail at ANI, however accusing me of not showing good faith isn't the best way to go here. Hersfold (t/a/c) 00:25, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. I left a comment there. --Efe (talk) 00:51, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
First and foremst I didnt accuse you of anything, unless you think you dont have good faith. See you dont have enough evidence and I have done nothing wrong. You may think you have power of me, yet you dont.

C ya. The Rules are there to guide us, they are not LAW

No, rules are not law, especially on Wikipedia, however when your behavior is making things difficult for others to do what they wish to do, then it's my responsibility as an administrator to see that it stops. Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:53, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

for your quick reversion of vandalism to my userpage! Qqqqqq (talk) 03:16, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Quite welcome. :-) Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:19, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

You semi-protected that page about six months ago. I just noticed this and wanted to let you know. If you think it is very likely that vandalism will just pick up again, I guess there's no point in even trying unprotection. Just letting you know in case it was an oversight, and you actually meant to eventually unprotect it. Cheers! -Lilac Soul (talk contribs count)I'm watching this page so just reply to me right here! 07:49, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

I can try unprotecting it, but it's got such a looong protection log that it'll probably just pick back up again. Thanks for the reminder. Hersfold (t/a/c) 16:53, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Can you please follow up on this? - Mgm|(talk) 08:57, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

No, you did what you should have done; Huggle unfortunately didn't realize I shouldn't have reverted you, as it usually does, and I didn't notice the switch in time. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:15, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Oh wait, I think we got into edit conflicts there, as that user that you've warned by mistake undid the user page edit very quickly. I didn't even notice, until now. Versus22 talk 20:19, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Requesting 5 articles which were deleted

I notice that you are listed on: Category:Wikipedia administrators who will provide copies of deleted articles.

I am requesting 6 articles which were deleted then redirected to be userfied, :):

From: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2008 November 15

Can you please move all 6 pages to my userspace, with the history intact (I am interested in who created the article, and when).

I really appreciate it. You are probably wondering why I ask. Well, I have spent my weekend on a graph found here: User:Ikip/AfD on average day. I am interested in what type of user gets their page deleted, etc....November 15 is just a day pulled out of a hat by another user.

Thanks :) Ikip (talk) 01:37, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Looks like User:Xeno's already gotten these - the first two you've listed weren't actually deleted, so there's nothing to restore for those; they've just been moved to new titles. If you need any more brought back up, though, let me know. Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:29, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Dance-pop

Hi Hersfold. I think you are the one who installed a block against User-Dance-pop. I think nothing has changed by the block, still the abuse and the threats continue along with the edit war. Just now i pinged him giving reasons for why some info can't be in a particular article, but alas, again started the threats. Could you please take a look in this again? Really sorry to bother you again, but i don't wanna get in vio of 3RR rule. "Legolas" (talk) 05:09, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

That's fine - I actually, wasn't the blocking admin last time, but I did bring it up on ANI, whereupon someone did end up blocking them. I'll take a look now. Hersfold (t/a/c) 05:49, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Having taken a quick look, I would say for the record that your redirection of Beautiful, Dirty, Rich (Lady GaGa song) while the AfD was still ongoing was inappropriate - you should wait for a consensus to form before taking such an action, and right now there is no consensus at all on that article. However, Dance-pop is continuing to edit war over a misinterpretation of sources from what I can see. I just commented at Talk:Lady GaGa, and will leave a note on Dance-pop's talk page in just a moment. Hersfold (t/a/c) 06:01, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
The only reason i redirected Beautiful, Dirty, Rich (Lady GaGa song) was there was nothing different in the article than the previous version which was also redirected. No notability to administer a separate page for the article. Only releasing a music video doesnot comply a song to have a page. Then i let Dance-pop revert it because i put some points for improvement in his talkpage. I will wait to see the improvement on this article. If it still fails WP:NSONG i'll redirect it. Maybe that was wrong and i apologize for it. But the reason i came here is that its getting difficlut to edit any of the GaGa related article without Dance-pop abusing or shouting at others. I won't see bad edits or bad sources in any article. But thanks for your help always. A real sweets. :-) "Legolas" (talk) 06:12, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Even if it is kept, I'd recommend you go along with the consensus. If there's no consensus to support a redirect or merge, talk it over on the talk page of the article before you do so. And as you pointed out, if the article is improved there may be no need to take any action.
Anyway, I've left a long explanation of things and a firm warning on Dance-pop's talk page. I'll probably be hearing from him soon, so hopefully we can work things out then. Hersfold (t/a/c) 06:18, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Ya, i know. Thanks for your help as always. :-) "Legolas" (talk) 06:25, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello to you again

Hi. You've probably expected me. My explanation will be short and I hop you reply. Im trying to be nice as possible (Im actually very frustraed and angry), everything you have said has been in your opinoin. So lets start at the death hole thing, that was a joke, dont you have a sense of humour, Im trying to have a bit of fun on wikipedia and help improve and create articles. I ALWAYS assume good faith. Again, You are not looking at both sides of the story (you should have contacted me about Legalos, and herad what I had to say, before I got this 'nasty' comment. I was wrongly blocked, and everyone should knows it. Thank you for your critism it helps, even though know one likes critizism. How did the death hole thing get me in troble the last time?(not a rhetrical question--I still dont know why I was blocked). I have tryed to contact estabisheld users about things but I have been ignored alot of times check my contributes(the only person to help is Efe. I have tryed to stop edit wars but some people carry it on. I like to do things fast, that the way I am, thats the way I'll be. My sources are genreally correct and I dont hesitate to change anything when I know Im right. Why cant we use primary sources, Historians do (thats how we gat the right information). The Rules are there to guide us, they are not LAW. I said I would be short (I could write an article or essay for you). Before I go babbling on I'll finish. I was wrongly blocked and proved it as well, have found some users must go to a higher power when they cant solve things (Legalos even threatend me-he said he would go to the ANI). I am shocked at some users and how they deal with things. Wikipedia needs to change. My comments are sometimes harsh they are NOT abusive. I cant change who I am, cause thats me. I hope you relpy to this message. Thanks, C ya.Dance-pop (talk) 06:45, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Oh. And I see you know Legalos, A third party should of talked me because we have delt with each other before. You could be bias toward me, you know the rules please follow tham. I am angry that I could have been delt with wrongly :( 06:52, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I was contacted by Legolas concerning this, yes; however, that does not mean I've taken care to review both sides of the argument. I do not believe any action I've taken would indicate that I am biased one way or another. If this is the case, please point out how. Otherwise, this is somewhat what I'm talking about with the assuming good faith thing. Just because someone is saying you need to slow down and discuss things does not mean they are threatening you, and just because I felt there was a need to discuss things with you does not mean I'm not following the rules. In some cases, a post at ANI can help ensure that someone isn't overreacting by getting some outside opinions on the matter. That's why I brought the previous issue there myself.
As for your block, you were blocked because you were continually reverting other's edits and ignoring the consensus on those articles. This is what we call an edit war. Since Wikipedia is a collaborative effort, it is very disruptive to have one editor preventing others from making edits. Several editors, myself included, tried to explain this to you, but you continued to revert edits and make comments such as this one definitely imply that you are not open to communication or even willing to stop the disruptive behavior. That's what got you blocked.
Your more recent actions, from what I can see, are very similar. You are continuing to revert edits with little discussion, and you are making comments that are not conducive to discussion. The Sparta thing was one of these - even if you intended it as a joke, in the context you provided, it looks like an attack or threat. "Dont make this personal Legalos, because there are consequence, believe me consequence. [...] Becarful. "Maddness.....This is sparta, and I kick you in the death hole." I'm having a hard time seeing how that was supposed to be received as a joke.
I do agree that the rules on Wikipedia are not (usually) law, but are more guides; however, when an editor's actions begin to infringe on another's rights as an editor, it is the responsibility of administrators such as myself to take steps to stop the disruption. That is why we were given the tools we have. Hersfold (t/a/c) 15:31, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

The death hole things is a bit of misunderstanding, , my first message was and I quote (check my contbutes, or leagloses)" This maddness and you say..." and when he didnt reply I finished of for him. But I see what you mean. I will tell you how you are biased, Legalos asked you to deal with me, so your probably already in his favour(your frineds). It is your opinion that I am in an edit war( do you think I want an edit war), I still think there wasnt signifcant evidence to block me and edit wrrings is to be repoted at 3RR violations and vandilism at ongoing vandlism. So here is some constructive and positive critism to help you like how you helped me-->talk to both users first before telling them what to do, dont deal with users you have delt with before(theres room for bias. Party Down Scandal (LG Williams)

Would you mind forwarding me the deleted content from the earlier version of talk:Party Down Scandal (LG Williams)? (the talk page) I'll run things through AFD but it would be good to have my comments from last year. Thanks heaps. Debate 22:25, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Emailed to you. Once the debate starts up, I may just restore it depending on how much you refer to those comments in your nomination. Hersfold (t/a/c) 22:57, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your quick response! In the absence of the original talk page being restored I'll most likely post the substance of my previous contributions to the new talk page, however either option is fine with me. Debate 23:30, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Disscussion Future pop at GaGa

Anyways however reliable a source maybe, the genre future-pop needs to be established by a third party, untill then we cannot add it to the article. They will burn it at the GA then. "Legolas" (talk) 12:50, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

So we cant use primary sources. What about ref 5 on lady gaga which is primary source.Should all information about that be taken off.Dance-pop (talk) 04:35, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi regarding these comments should the sources from lady gagas site be deleted too with info. I think it should if mines were deleted, if not mine should go on the article, not in the info. box., by the way she is the only one who will ever say my genre is future pop(because she is descriiong her music, so must go on the article, unless there is a third paty who says she describes it as that). Should it be changed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dance-pop (talkcontribs)

I'm having a hard time understanding what you're asking here - mind you I'm not feeling very well at the moment, but this doesn't seem very clear to me. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:19, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your help. By the way, how do you like my new sign?? . Could you tell me how to include a specific font in my sign? --Legolas!! (talktome) 04:23, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
The code for that is in my signature. style="font-family:FONT NAME;" Note that if someone's computer doesn't have that font, then it'll replace it with something else, occasionally with weird results. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:25, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Status Template

Hi Hersfold. I recently discovered your status template and decided to add it to my user page. I followed all the instructions outlined at User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate, but it keeps telling me my status is 'lost'. I've spent the last hour trying to see what I've done wrong, but I can't find anything. It's probably really something very simple, but would you please mind taking a look for me when you have a spare minute or two. I'd really appreciate it. Many thanks, Schumi555 (talk) 21:15, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Hey, Schumi. It looks like you're trying to edit the status page manually; the colored links at the bottom of the template should automatically edit the page for you when you click on them. If the reason you're doing it manually is because the script isn't working right (you just get the edit box, but nothing's changed and it doesn't automatically save), then try following these steps:
  1. Bypass your cache, even if you've already done so. Do this a couple times, then try again.
  2. If that didn't work, purge your userpage, then try again.
  3. If that didn't work, try completely clearing your browser's cache (instructions in the link in step 1), then purge your userpage once more, and try again.
  4. If that didn't work, try logging out, closing your browser, starting it up again, logging back in, then going to your userpage and trying once more.
  5. If you're still not getting it to work, log out, close the browser, restart your computer, log back in, and try the template one last time.
  6. If even that doesn't work, then take a deep breath, try not to kill your computer, but let me know and I'll try to look into it more.
The reason I'm having you do what seems to be a ridiculous imitation of the hokey pokey is that the problem is almost certainly on your end. It does appear as though you've followed all the steps correctly (status page exists, you installed the script, you added the template), and I just checked the links and they are working correctly. So, the only thing I can imagine to be the problem would be that your computer doesn't realize you've installed the script. The steps I've given you should be the digital equivalent of beating it over the head with a frying pan until it listens to you. Of course, nothing is ever foolproof, and it's possible (albeit unlikely) it still won't work after all that. Again, if that is the case, drop me another message and I'll try to work things out. Best of luck! Hersfold (t/a/c) 00:42, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Hi again. Thanks a lot for your help :) But I'm afraid after following your instructions it still doesn't seem to want to play ball :@ Anything else you could suggest? Many thanks, Schumi555 (talk) 13:57, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
What browser and OS are you using? –xeno (talk) 13:59, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm using Firefox 3.0.6, and Windows Vista. Schumi555 (talk) 14:42, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
I got nothing. –xeno (talk) 14:48, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
I must also confess that I'm totally confused. There shouldn't be anything preventing it from working. You're not the only one to have this happen, though: Last month a similar issue was reported, again with no results. According to the user, it magically began working a couple weeks later, although looking at his status page I think his was more of a browser cache issue. The only other thing I can suggest is to make sure you have javascript turned on (Tools menu -> Options... -> Content tab -> Enable Javascript), and if it's not, to turn it on and then repeat the whole rigmarole above again. Otherwise, it could just be that it needs some time to sink in. Sorry I can't be of more help, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it. Hersfold (t/a/c) 15:17, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Java is enabled...hmmmm. Thanks for your time anyway, I'll let you know if it suddenly begins working in the next couple of weeks. Kind regards, Schumi555 (talk) 15:49, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Am I to understand that there is nothing I can do? It's this one List of works by William Monahan. Before this I had a good opinion of wikipedia but I'm now changing my mind. Can I please know some of the people who are bullying my friend. I won't reveal his name but he is the one who wrote all of the stuff about William Monahan. What? My friend was banned? Who can ban someone? I am not a meat pet. I'm allowed to show concern about this.
Just forget about it. I don't have time to learn all about these rules. Bye
Suit yourself; there's a bit of an explanation on your talk page should you change your mind. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:34, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

While RSVPing isn't necessary drop Jeff Gates an email if you're planning on attending so he can get a head count: gatesj (at) si.edu. There also is a signup list here, along with detailed information. The museum is conveniently located across from the Gallery Place-Chinatown metro station.

DC 6th Meetup (March 7)

The DC 6th meetup will take place on March 7th at Pizzeria Uno's at Union Station, one level up from the main floor. The meetup will start at 5pm, and people usually stick around there for several hours. You can RSVP at Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 6.

Time zones follow-up

I don't know if you remember this, but we discussed time zones on AN/I not so long ago. Turns out you were right: it was AM. It's a funny story: for some reason, my computer turns AM into PM, which I noticed only later; I hadn't slept much the day before, and hadn't been up for long before I logged in. In fact, I was upset over having slept what looked to be "around the clock" (well, not exactly, but thereabouts) - turns out I hadn't but I just had to make a fool of myself before getting it right. It's not just on AN/I: I was phoning people at the crack of dawn, thinking I had to do it before it got too late (I'm happy to say nobody answered), and wondering why it's so sunny come 8 o'clock wintertime :D. Anyway, that was really stupid, and I apologize if I dented your confidence in the Earth's rotation. Best, Dahn (talk) 04:19, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

X-D Oh, that's priceless. No, that's perfectly fine, although I was a bit confused at first. Best of luck getting your clocks set the right way! (by the way, it's currently 11:30 PM US Eastern, and 4:30 AM GMT ;-) ) Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:29, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Your Status Template's Script Isn't Working

Hi there. I'm not sure if your status template is still "active", but I was hoping you could help me fix it on my userpage. The problem is that the script to automate the edit to change the template doesn't seem to work for me. The link on the status template simply gives me the edit box like normal; it doesn't even change the page's content or give a summary. See my monobook.js; it's the first one on the page. I'm running Firefox 3.0 (though it doesn't work on IE either), and I've already bypassed my cache. Thank you for any assistance you can give me. Robert Skyhawk So sue me! (You'll lose) 03:13, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately, you're not the only one who seems to be having this problem; you'll notice a few sections up the same thing happened to someone else. I can't for the life of me figure out what's causing it, but starting about a month ago, new installations don't seem to function for a while. It *should* work eventually, but in the meantime, I guess just keep going as normal. In consolation, you did do everything correctly; the template should work, and does for me, but why it's not for you is a mystery. Sorry I can't be of any help. :-( Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:46, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Would you mind if you (or I) set an expiry (6-12 months), just to get this out of WP:INDEFSEMI. I think it's important that these get reviewed on an annual or semi-annual basis. I actually thought about re-protecting this one but the majority of the vandalism was that single IP running rampant. –xeno (talk) 20:27, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, that's fine. A lot of it was coming from the one IP, but I can't imagine that it'll slow down much, considering the article. Hersfold ([[User:::Hersfold/t|t]]/a/c) 20:29, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
You're probably right. Much obliged. –xeno (talk) 20:37, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
I think it would be fun to let it go unprotected every once in while. Who says registered users should have all the fun? Seriously, how about 3 months? Try it out and free to IPs for an afternoon. --KP Botany (talk) 05:57, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Concerning the two week semi-protection, I would like to tell you that this page has been vandalized, at least, 26 times from the beginning of this year. Check the history of this page, you will find a lot of vandalism. A two week semi-protection will serve no good to the article, as there is no edit war going on. But it has been going on for a long time. Cheers, A elalaily (talk) 21:09, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Considering who the article's about, 26 times in two months isn't that bad. I do check the history of pages before I protect them; I don't believe there is much need for anything about two weeks at this point. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:31, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Ok, thank you. Cheers, A elalaily (talk) 22:10, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Adminship

Hi. I have tried to nominate myself for adminship a lot but it has not worked out well instruction-wise. It is just a mite too complicated for me to do it. May I have a little help please? Carabera (talk) 22:50, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

I can if you really want, but I would strongly recommend against it. You have less than 200 edits here, which is nowhere near enough to demonstrate the full understanding of policy and level of community trust needed to pass RfA. RfA candidates usually have several months, if not years, experience, and several thousand edits under their belts. I do appreciate your willingness to help, and will help you fill out the nomination form if you still want, but I don't think now would be the best time. Angel article

Was that a joke about my previous edit to the Angel article being unconstructive? Clearly it was the previous edit by Hfarn that was unconstructive, where he or she reverted a contribution by a new user claiming it was unsourced, when in fact the new user Angelwriter was making the block quote a more accurate reflection of the source provided. Im not LOLing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrthekid97 (talkcontribs)

I'm sorry, I only just noticed this message - I've had quite a few today and yours ended up buried amongst them.
When I came across that edit in Huggle, all I saw at first was your adding "your breasts dilated with joy", which isn't something you usually see added to articles. Looking into it further, a lot of what you were adding did seem to be unencyclopedic in tone, and consisting mostly of original research. Your edits since then look fine, so if you can provide some references for the content I'd reverted, that'd be great. Thanks! Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:04, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Bring it up on the talk page; you'll need a strong consensus of the editors of that article to make the move. Once that has been formed, and you can clearly demonstrate that fact, place an {{editprotected}} notice on the article's talk page. I cannot and will not unilaterally make any such move myself, nor do I have any interest in getting involved in that. On an unrelated note, could you please check the "Raw signature" box in your preferences? What you have now is a bit of a code explosion. Thanks. Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:48, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
