Deletion of Francoise Cherry-Cohen

I don't know how to use Wiki, so please excuse my ignorance in how to use it. However, you deleted my wife's page, Francoise Cherry-Cohen. Please undelete it. We did not create it, but she has done quite notable work in television, and has been nominated for numerous awards. Your deletion was in error, and please reverse your action.

A couple o' questions

Hi, HJ Mitchell. We have never met before, but I'd like to ask you a couple of questions.

First, is it possible to make an orange bar appear for you when someone edits a subpage of yours that is being used for a message board, just like this one (a subpage that serves as a talk page)?

Second, is it possible to colour in cells on tables with more than one colour for each cell?

Hey there. Do you know much about WikiText? What does this mean?

The things I am confused with: border-c, border-s, id-c, id-s, id-fc, info-c, info-s, info-fc, id, info, float. Not sure what those acronyms mean. Also, why is there only three symbols in the hex numbers? (eg. #EEE)?

I use the following code for userboxes. It is set for the standard size of userboxes too. I find it to be easier to understand and tinker with.

I spent a goodly amount of time researching this person and would like to at least copy the code into a sandbox somewhere before it is gone for good. Could you please undelete or at least post the article text verbatim (meaning, with all the sub- code, reference tag information, etc)? Requesting that AAFM American Academy of Financial Management be removed from Wiki

AAFM needs to be protected from spam or removed from WIKI because editor RJC : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:RJC and others keep deleting the US government citations and regulatory references that define the group accurately. Not sure with the NPOV bias is about, but the Investopedia definition and FINRA USA regulatory definition are accurate, and the RJC and latest version is a spam blog. Deletion of Mt. Vernon Sleep Galleries

Mr. Mitchell,

I have previously been through the necessary requirements and relevant sources with one of your coworkers regarding the Mt. Vernon Sleep Galleries. I understand the process of proposed deletion and the seven day window; however I was unaware the the page had been actually proposed for deletion and did not object. What are my options at the moment for getting the page reinstated. The page contains relevant links from A national vendor (Simmons) and newspaper links that specifically mention the Store and owner as well. It gave me a whole new meaning and understanding on how Wikipedia works, but I didn't know it would be so hard to prove things around here. Hi. I'm always happy to help. Unfortunately, there's no way to guarantee that sort of thing. We don't have any sort of central body or editor-in-chief, so if one editor doesn't think a subject is worthy of an encyclopaedia entry, then they can pursue its deletion through various means, ending with a discussion if others disagree. That discussion will be held for a week and, after that, an administrator (somebody with the same level of access as me, but not me personally) will close the discussion and determine the consensus. If the consensus is to delete (consensus is based on strength of argument, not the number of people making it), then that admin will delete it, otherwise, the article will be kept. There's no way to guarantee that kind of thing won't happen, but by creating articles of the best quality you can, you give them the best chance of survival. Hi again! Thank you for the information. Yes, I can understand that now... Although it's not mentioned directly in the policies, according to the voters opinions, the authors of the articles have to undergo a vast scrutiny of their own work in order to be considered reliable. The thing is, most of the popular or well known journalistic websites (e.g.: [1]) don't even have links to the profiles of the article's authors (that's if the article's author is even mentioned!), which is a little bit contradicting, don't you think?... Well if it ends up deleted, which unfortunately looks likely, it's not lost forever. I (or any other admin) can email you the source code for you to keep or use somewhere else and if it becomes notable enough in the future, it's easy enough to undelete it. 15:58, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I appreciate that :) But I still believe and proved that the sources are not questionable enough to be discarded in order to justify the article's deletion. However, I'm still paying attention to new sources that in the meantime may appear. Deletion of my first page

Sir,

I am trying to write about a company called MTI, but I apparently don't understand how to write it without it sounding like it unambiguously promotes the company. How do I write about them without doing this? I'm trying to read through article creation guidelines, but they are hard to understand and don't really tell me what I should do to avoid this type of promotion. I'm trying to write about the company similarly to the way there is an article about another company called Midmark. I tried to mirror the way that article is written, but as you see, my article was deleted. Isn't the page on Midmark similar to what I wrote? If you could help me re-write the article, I would greatly appreciate it. This company has been revolutionary in the state of Utah, and I feel they deserve the same kind of space that Midmark has obtained.

if you could pass this along to andy i'd appreciate it. Statements of fact (and i'll try not to be "poetic").

I recently made an article for "nagging" and filled it with dry wit. The action itself is debatable, as is the wit/humour. I was proving a point (which, as a statement can be taken a number of ways, many of which were intended). I said hurtful things to andy, but it's all been in jest, albeit one sided. or maybe you two are lol-ing as i speak. I hope so... :) cheshire cat

Assuming that i simply come off as a 'twat', i've decided to end the "edit war". i'm also hungry, which facilitates that decision process. not to mention that i'm typing via "on screen keyboard". Yes, I'm legally disabled but no, my keyboard is just out of juice.

I believe that Snark (Lewis Carroll) would also work, though less subtly. Nagging Snark and Nagging Snipe both being synonymous and, with absolute certainty, pages that the Arbitration Committee would pretty much be forced to accept. or delete the entire "snipe" joke pages lovingly hosted by jimmy wales himself.

No hard feelings. Crack a pint on me. btw, i know how to evade blocks. all of them. easily. if i wanted to, it could end in rcn getting blocked in toto. or court orders. seriously - i'm just trying to SPREAD cheer - seriously. the snipe articles make ME grin, and i'm far from alone. nuff said - i'll wait for the block to lift, but don't push me, bubba (i kid! mostly...)

Can I convince you to reverse a deletion?

Dear Mr. Mitchell: Thank you for the e mail you sent me regarding my email inquiry about deletion of the entry the Fuld-Gilad-Herring Academy of Competitive Intelligence on 7 November, 2010. I would have responded earlier to the deletion if I was notified of it, but I wasn't. You naturally do not remember the entry, which is understandable so let me note in brief why I think it is notable. The Academy of CI was the first organization in the world to create a professional training program in competitive intelligence, and the first to create a certification degree, which is now acceptable by employers world-wide as credentials for hiring. The profession of competitive intelligence [[2]] is young, less than 20 years old. The 3 Academy's founders created this field in the 1980s. The founders published pioneering work in it, and then made it respectable by creating the CIP degree. The Academy is small, and has no PR people, so I wrote the entry, eventhohgh it is discouraged (Large corporations just pay money to their PR agencies to do that, you probably know that. We don't have that kind of money). I followed Wiki guideline to the letter, being very careful not to make it a promotional piece. I wonder if I can get you to reconsider your previous action and restore the page. People looking for training and education in the field benefit greatly from seeign us on Wiki.

Thank you for the advice. The edits are accurate and at least for me, worthy of inclusion, as is the article itself. This is a Philadelphia article, so I know the subject and the notability. This is the first time I have reported a user name problem, so I am on the learning curve. Giedroyc

Many thanks for your help re the Giedroyc article earlier this month. A couple of further questions:

- Giedroyć should be spelled with an accent over the "c". It is spelled like that within the article. Can we amend the title of the article to include the accent too?

- the article could cite sources: Ferrand "Les Familles Princières de l'Ancien Empire de Russie"; and Lenczewski "Genealogie rodów utytułowanych w Polsce" ("Genealogy of Titled Families in Poland").

- Giedraičiai is the plural of Giedraitis. It would therefore be more normal in English to talk about the Giedraitis family, rather than the Giedraičiai family. Is it possible to amend the title of the Giedraičiai family article (and therefore the link at the beginning of the Giedroyć article) accordingly? WCW page dispute

My apologies if I'm leaving this message for you in not the proper fashion as I'm rather new here. You put a Full Protect (temporarily) on World Can't Wait in response to my request. It has been lifted but despite a lengthy exchange in which several people weighed in with all of us disagreeing with TomPointTwo's grounds for calling WCW a "communist group," he has just announced that he's going to restore that false lede again even though no one agrees with him. His position is obviously wrong on its face. He is also engaged in some behaviors that I believe merit sanctioning. Is there a convenient list of Wikipedia pages that have had discussions about suggested changes banned? I understand my fair use rationale didn't address the issue of replaceability. Can we discuss the issue of non-replaceability as this person forbids photography of himself outside of that official photo which you have deleted. I understand such an argument is accepted only in very exceptional cases. Fut.Perf. ☼ 12:32, 7 March 2011 (UTC), but I think that is the case here. This is an exceptional case.

The person whose photo you have deleted is a guru who moves mostly in very circumscribed circles, i.e. predominantly among his followers and then on private properties owned by his movement. He does not give public interviews. Photography of him is very strictly forbidden and this rule is very rigourously enforced. No cameras or even mobile phones are allowed on the properties that he visits let alone in his proximity. The 'official photo itself that I have used is now perhaps a decade old and yet is only one of two portrait photographs that exist of him that I know of. (The other photo was 'offcially' taken in 1990 and this more up-to-date photo was requested for many years before it was granted.) So he has managed to enforce the 'no photos of me' restriction very successfully. In these circumstances would it be possible to allow the photo which he officially allows to be circulated and which he uses on his public webpage to be used? --Mystichumwipe (talk) 04:46, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

The problem is that part of Wikipedia's aim is to promote free content wherever possible. Since the gentleman who is the subject of the image is still living, the policy presumes that a free image could be found or created and, if it can't, then I'm afraid the assumption is generally that no image is better than a non-free image. Non-free images have to meet a very stringent set of criteria to be used and images of living people and standing buildings almost never meet those criteria.
You could always try to get in touch with the gentleman by email and ask if he would be willing to release an image of himself under a copyleft license or you could look for images on Flickr and email the uploaders there to see if they would be amenable, but no free image almost always = no image. The exact same official photo that I uploaded appears at Flickr twice:
i.) in one case with a worse resolution, a foliage background and appears expanded horizontally,
ii.) in the other case the background has been manipulated and a url added to the photo.

No. Not all images on Flickr can be used on Wikipedia. If you can find a Flickr image that's licensed as CC-By-SA (and none odf those are), then it can be used here. If I myself purchase a copy of the officially released and publically sold version of this photo and then I myself scan that in to my computer, would that then pass the 'free content' criteria? I would effectively own that photograph and the scanned version of it, wouldn't I? This officially sold photo is intended for public use, and if I do own my own scanned version then I assume copyright would not be a problem.
