Hello. You recently contacted me about the infobox for the Iraqi nation. You claim that you are following the “uniform practice” used for other nations. Actually, that is what I am doing. Iraq is not a continuation of the Mesopotamian city-states. That is why I deleted it. You list Poland and the two Koreas as examples of your method. They are not. Poland’s infobox dates starts with the baptism Poland’s earliest ruler. This date is seen as the start of the Polish nation. The two Koreas’ infobox dates begin with the traditional foundation date of Gojoseon. This was the first Korean kingdom, and both Koreas consider themselves a continuation of the Korean Kingdoms. Thus, that is considered the foundation date of Korea. Consider this example, as well: the modern government of the United States was established in 1789, but the United States traces its origin to the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, when the US was governed by the Continental Congress. This is because the modern US government is considered a successor state to the governments of the Continental Congress and the subsequent Congress of the Confederation. Iraq, by contrast, traces its origins to the Kingdom established as a British protectorate in 1920. This led to the Kingdom of Iraq, which was replaced by a Republic following the 14 July Revolution. The Iraqi nation traces its origins to the kingdom established in 1920. Thus, that is the first date mentioned in the infobox. I hope that this explains the format of the infoboxes to you.
